Resumen
ABSTRACTA computational cost comparative study through both Java and C applications was developed. Computational routines consist of a matrix multiplications, the discrete cosine transform and the bubble-sorting algorithm. Memory and Runtime for each application were measure. It was determined that the runtime of matrix multiplication in Java was within the limits of 200 and 300 milliseconds, as opposed to the application developed in C, which shown to be stable with an execution period less than 20 milliseconds. In the ordering algorithm with the bubble method, it was observe that the Java language show be very slow compared to C. In addition, the memory usage was lower in most of the applications, showing a minimum difference. Applications were tested in both, a mobile LG-E510f and a Laptop Toshiba Satellite. The study allowed to report the profit generated in both runtime and memory consumption when performing a native implementation in C and Java.

Resumen
295 Background: Personalized medicine has resulted in a rapid increase in biospecimens collection. Each biospecimen collected requires supplies that are provided in the form of “kits”. The number of kit types per protocol ranges anywhere from 2-60, with an average of 30 different kit types per trial. Historically, each trials nurse has managed their own kits resulting in large amounts of nursing time being spent on kit management. Kits took up a large amount of space in clinical areas, including expired kits, and they were being managed in no standardized fashion. Due to rapidly increasing biospecimen volumes, existing methods of kit management were no longer feasible and the CCRU Kit Squad was developed. Methods: Over the course of 12-mos, an extensive assessment of current kit management practices were reviewed with all disease site groups, including workflows and quantities utilized. An e-commerce software platform was selected, and semi-customized to centralize online ordering and receiving of kits, and the creation of a central location was setup for kit storage and daily operations. On-boarding of each group included retrieving existing kits from each nurse, uploading kits to the software, training each nurse to use the software, setting up accounts with each respective vendor for deliveries and re-supply, and disposing of expired kits. Results: Disease site groups were transitioned to the CCRU Kit Squad stepwise from Oct 2016 to Dec 2017 (15-mos), which included 80 nurses, 16 disease site groups, and over 400 clinical trials. By the end of 2017, the average number of kits ordered per day, and per month were 33 and 1003, respectively. Conclusions: The CCRU Kit Squad developed a centralized online service for kit management, thereby reducing administrative burden on clinical trial nurses. It has streamlined the management of biospecimen kits, eliminated wasted space in clinical areas, and facilitated the selection of the right kit for the right test at the right time.

Resumen
In bioinformatics research, for the lacks of an effective algorithm-integrating mechanism and a friendly graphical user interface of the toolkits in the field of biological data processing and analyzing, the authors designed and implemented a sharing software system Bioinfo-Kit based on the Java 2 Platform Enterprise Edition (J2EE), which provides 1) a general application development interface to integrate or bridge other programs and 2) a workflow mechanism to operate them and make them talk easily. In addition, a module for biological data (multiple electrodes data, biomedical data and etc.) analysis was implemented in the software system, which provided a workflow mechanism to integrate a series of algorithms and visualization tools. Because the interface developed is very general and flexible, new analysis tools can be integrated effectively as required. Bioinfo-Kit implies an ideal environment for integrative bioinformatics research.

Resumen
Representations of activities dealing with the development or maintenance of software are called software process models. Process models allow for communication, reasoning, guidance, improvement, and automation. Two approaches for modeling processes and instantiating and managing the process models, namely CoMo-Kit and MVP-E, are combined to build a more powerful one. CoMo-Kit is based on AI/KE technology; it is a support tool system for general complex design processes, and was not been developed specifically with software development processes in mind. MVP-E is a process-sensitive software engineering environment for modeling and analyzing software development processes, and guides software developers. Additionally, it provides services to establish and run measurement programmes in software organizations. Because both approaches were developed independently from one another, major integration efforts had to be made to combine both their advantages. This article concentrates on the resulting language concepts, and their operationalization necessary for building automated process support.

Resumen
To improve the productivity and quality of software development, a software synthesis shell called SOFTEXSHELL has been developed. SOFTEXSHELL is a tool kit with a transformation system based on a term rewriting system, a language DSL/C++ for defining transformation rules as well as a specification language for a specific software model, and a rule verification system which supports development of correct transformation rules. The system is designed to provide an environment which enables a broad range of software engineers to construct software synthesis systems for their domains. To evaluate how effectively SOFTEXSHELL does this, a software synthesis system for switching scenario software was developed by two switching software specialists without prior software synthesis experience. After a four-month prototype development period, a practical software synthesis system for switching service software was developed in eight months. The developed software synthesis system, SOFTEX/EX, has been utilized for developing six switching systems. Generated programs, including 272,000 steps in total, have been in daily operation. Based on the development process and developed system results, we conclude that SOFTEXSHELL enables software engineers, without prior software synthesis experience, to develop useful and efficient software synthesis systems.

Resumen
PURPOSE Precision oncology depends on the matching of tumor variants to relevant knowledge describing the clinical significance of those variants. We recently developed the Clinical Interpretations for Variants in Cancer (CIViC; civicdb.org ) crowd-sourced, expert-moderated, and open-access knowledgebase. CIViC provides a structured framework for evaluating genomic variants of various types (eg, fusions, single-nucleotide variants) for their therapeutic, prognostic, predisposing, diagnostic, or functional utility. CIViC has a documented application programming interface for accessing CIViC records: assertions, evidence, variants, and genes. Third-party tools that analyze or access the contents of this knowledgebase programmatically must leverage this application programming interface, often reimplementing redundant functionality in the pursuit of common analysis tasks that are beyond the scope of the CIViC Web application. METHODS To address this limitation, we developed CIViCpy ( civicpy.org ), a software development kit for extracting and analyzing the contents of the CIViC knowledgebase. CIViCpy enables users to query CIViC content as dynamic objects in Python. We assess the viability of CIViCpy as a tool for advancing individualized patient care by using it to systematically match CIViC evidence to observed variants in patient cancer samples. RESULTS We used CIViCpy to evaluate variants from 59,437 sequenced tumors of the American Association for Cancer Research Project GENIE data set. We demonstrate that CIViCpy enables annotation of > 1,200 variants per second, resulting in precise variant matches to CIViC level A (professional guideline) or B (clinical trial) evidence for 38.6% of tumors. CONCLUSION The clinical interpretation of genomic variants in cancers requires high-throughput tools for interoperability and analysis of variant interpretation knowledge. These needs are met by CIViCpy, a software development kit for downstream applications and rapid analysis. CIViCpy is fully documented, open-source, and available free online.

According to the time-varying analysis theory of large-span structure hoisting, the structure transformation matrix around three-dimensional translation and rotation is obtained. Based on the obtained transformation matrix, the final state matrix after structure hoisting can be described, and the structural internal force of any position can be calculated. Using the Coin3d Open Inventor that is an open source graphics development kit, developers exploited simulation software of large-span structure hoisting. The software can analyze structural security with the time-varying analysis theory, and it has been applied in the simulation of hoisting construction at the Hefei Xinqiao international airport. The results indicated the software is reliable to protect safety of structure hoisting.

Resumen
Heart monitoring kits are only available for bedridden patients and the traditional heart monitoring kits have many wires that are obstacle patients’ mobility. Most of the existing heart monitoring kits can not detect heart diseases. Thus, the current study proposed a wireless heart monitoring kit to monitor patients with a heart abnormality. The proposed kit can detect and classify four arrhythmia types as well as normal ECG with high accuracy. The design and development of the wireless heart abnormality monitoring kit (WHAMK) in this research were divided into three stages. These stages are the development of an arrhythmias detection and classification method using artificial intelligence approach, design and implementation of the kit hardware, and design and coding of the kit software. Arrhythmias classification approach is divided into four stages, namely obtaining the electrocardiograph (ECG) signals, preprocessing, features extraction and classification. The features extraction method are based on statistical features. The library support vector machine (LIBSVM) was used to classify the ECG signals. The hardware of the kit is divided into two parts, namely ECG body sensor (EBS), and processing and displaying unit (PDU). EBS working on acquiring the ECG signal from patient's body. PDU working on processing the collected ECG signal, plotting it and detecting the arrhythmias. Arrhythmias classification approach was developed by using statistical features and LIBSVM. They were implemented in the software of the kit to enable it to detect the arrhythmias in the real-time and fully automatically. The kit can detect and classify four arrhythmia types as well as normal sinus rhythm (NSR). These types of arrhythmia are premature atrial contraction (PAC), premature ventricles contraction (PVC), Bradycardia and Tachycardia. The proposed kit gave a good accuracy for detecting and classifying Arrhythmia with the overall accuracy of 96.2%.

The development of hardware increasing rapidly has made game developers take advantage of a variety of new resources that can improve their games. Epic games is a mature game developer who managed to make thousands game and delivered to the hands of gamers . A game engine called Unreal Engine is a big secret behind the success of Epic Games . The game engine is free if you just want to learn or just want to create a personal project and the game is not to be in comercial purposes . It is unfortunate that many students don’t even know of the existence of unreal engine , most of them make use of simpler game engine like game maker , rpg maker , fps creator , and so on. Though unreal engine is superior in any aspect other than the game engine , be it graphics , tools , mechanisms of development , flexible in export-import assets , etc . Based on this information , the author had the idea to make a first person shooter game using the unreal engine as the engine game. Before doing the develpment process, the next step is studying the literature of unreal engine and other supporting software such as 3d studio max to create 3D assets , adobe flash to create the menus , adobe photoshop to create a 2D texture and speedtree assets to create the foliage elements . The next thing is to go into the design phase of scenarios , maps, missions , characters and items that will be placed in the game. The next stage is the development and testing phase to test the game that has finished .The results of the design of this game is the realization of a first person shooter game application using unreal engine with features that can support the player 's interest in playing the game . It’s also introducing unreal engine to students who are interested in designing games.

Resumen
AbstractPlanning of interventions to treat cardiac arrhythmia requires a 3D patient specific model of the heart. Currently available commercial or free software dedicated to this task have important limitations for routinely use. Automatic algorithms are not robust enough while manual methods are time-consuming. Therefore, the project attempts to develop an optimal software tool. The heart model is generated from preoperative MR data-sets acquired with contrast agent and allows visualisation of damaged cardiac tissue. A requirement in the development of the software tool was the use of semi-automatic functions to be more robust. Once the patient image dataset has been loaded, the user selects a region of interest. Thresholding functions allow selecting the areas of high intensities which correspond to anatomical structures filled with contrast agent, namely cardiac cavities and blood vessels. Thereafter, the target-structure, for example the left ventricle, is coarsely selected by interactively outlining the gross shape. An active contour function adjusts automatically the initial contour to the image content. The result can still be manually improved using fast interaction tools. Finally, possible scar tissue located in the cavity muscle is automatically detected and visualized on the 3D heart model. The model is exported in format which is compatible with interventional devices at hospital. The evaluation of the software tool included two steps. Firstly, a comparison with two free software tools was performed on two image data sets of variable quality. Secondly, six scientists and physicians tested our tool and filled out a questionnaire. The performance of our software tool was visually judged more satisfactory than the free software, especially on the data set of lower quality. Professionals evaluated positively our functionalities regarding time taken, ease of use and quality of results. Improvements would consist in performing the planning based on different MR modalities.

This article discusses different lab experiences for mechatronics education. Integrated software tools like MATLAB and Simulink and the availability of low-cost hardware are enabling technologies for the development of innovative laboratory and curriculum paradigms. An example of this is the laboratory curriculum developed for the Mechatronics course at Rensselaer, consisting of the Rensselaer Mechatronics Hardware Kit and the associated RASPLib software package, which allow the students to take the laboratory experience out of the classroom and into their dorm rooms. This has created unique opportunities for learning and pedagogy. The Mini Inverted Pendulum project provides students a complete Mechatronics design experience. The end objective is clear: use the motor and sensors in the Mechatronics Kit to balance the pendulum.

Resumen
Background:Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative disease characterized by altered homeostasis of joint cartilage and bone, the functionality of which relies on chondrocytes and osteoblasts, that leads to the formation of a defective extracellular matrix (ECM). The ECM plays an essential role in bone biology as it provides the structure of cartilage which serves as a template for bone formation. Collagen X, main component of the ECM, has been described by our group as down-regulated in OA [1]. Our data also points to an important role of the Wnt pathway in OA [1,2]. Furthermore, Wnt proteins have been reported to inhibit chondrogenesis [3], and the Wnt pathway and its modulators have gained attention [4]. Glypicans (GPC1 to GPC6) and NOTUM, among others, have been identified as modulators of this pathway [5,6]. Notably, due to its highly specific inhibition of the Wnt pathway, NOTUM has been proposed as a therapeutic target in conditions with a high activity of the Wnt pathway is involved, such as OA [7].Objectives:We hypothesize that modulators of the Wnt pathway are involved in the development of OA. The aim of this study is to evaluate the presence of Glypicans and NOTUM in the serum of OA patients and healthy individuals in order to determine whether significant differences exist and could clarify their likely involvement in OA.Methods:Peripheral blood samples were obtained from OA patients during routine rheumatologist hospital visits. OA diagnosis was established according to the ACR criteria. Samples from healthy individuals were obtained from the local Blood Bank. In both cases, blood samples were centrifugated (2000g, 15 minutes, 10°C) and serum was obtained.Quantitative ELISA assays for GPC1-6 and NOTUM were carried out using commercial kits (Human GPC1 ELISA Kit, #E-EL-H1710, Elabscience; Human GPC2 ELISA Kit, #E-EL-H1711, Elabscience; Human GPC3 ELISA Kit, #E-EL-H1712, Elabscience; Human GPC4 ELISA Kit, #E-EL-H1713, Elabscience; Human GPC5 ELISA Kit, #ELH-GPC5, RayBiotech; Human GPC6 ELISA Kit, #CSB-EL009708HU, Cusabio; Human Protein NOTUM homolog ELISA Kit, #EK3787, Sab Biotech) and measured in a plate reader (Heales MB-580,Shenzhen Heales Technology Development Co. Ltd.). Protein concentration in serum was calculated using GraphPad Prism 7 software. Differences between samples were analysed with Mann-Withney U test. Significance level set wasp<0.05.Results:Serum from 40 OA patients and 40 healthy donors were included in the study. There were no differences between groups (Table 1).Table 1.Cohort descriptionControl group (n=40)OA group (n=40)Age66,82±5,7569,59±11,24Women (%)32 (80%)30 (75%)Out of 7 proteins analyzed, only NOTUM showed a significant difference between healthy and OA groups (MedianOA=0.4451ng/mL, MedianCONTROL=0.8263ng/mL,p=0.0013). Besides, GPC4 showed an approaching formal significance (MedianOA=0.1254ng/mL, MedianCONTROL=0.1596ng/mL,p=0.0767). The rest of Glypicans analyzed showed no significance differences between groups (GPC1, MedianOA=0.1346ng/mL, MedianCONTROL=0.1190ng/mL,p=0.2379; GPC2, MedianOA=2.593ng/mL, MedianCONTROL=2.955ng/mL,p=0.7489; GPC3, MedianOA=2.024ng/mL, MedianCONTROL=1.422ng/mL,p=0.3574; GPC5, MedianOA=3.663ng/mL, MedianCONTROL=5.529ng/mL,p=0.8829; GPC6, MedianOA=0.3922ng/mL, MedianCONTROL=0.3558ng/mL,p=0.3212).Conclusion:Our results suggest that low levels of NOTUM may contribute to the development of OA. The lack of this inhibitor promotes the activation of the Wnt pathway, high activity of which has been related with OA.References:[1]Lamas JRet al.Ann Rheum Dis, 2010. 69(10):1880-5.[2]Tornero-Esteban Pet al. Resumen
A design is presented for the manufacture of a two-axle rotational platform equipped with a thermal camera, allowing the camera to track hot targets. The platform features a position adjustment mechanism to shift the focus of the thermal camera to match the platforms rotational center. In addition, a control system was developed using Visual Basic to integrate the cameras Software Development Kit (SDK), was developed to display real-time thermal images and to control the platform based on a hot target in the thermal image, thus achieving thermal tracking. Position experiments for the thermal camera showed that cameras focus is can be maintained close to the platforms rotational center by placing the cameras reference surface 2 cm in front of the rotational centers surface. Accuracy experiments were conducted to measure angle errors of the two-axle platform, with results showing maximum horizontal and elevatory rotation errors of 0.0375° and 0.025°, respectively.

Resumen
In this paper, we introduce an educational robotics approach featuring a unique robotic development kit - hardware, software, and instructions - that concretely encourages student interest in and curiosity about science and technology. The kit was developed based on practical policies: easy construction, low cost, creative activity, and enjoyable education. It uses common materials such as plastic bottles, RC servomotors, and hot glue, and provides three different controllers with instructions - a sensor-motor controller, an electromyography (EMG) interface controller, and a teaching-playback controller. The kit thus offers more custom access to both robot structure and control architecture than similar kits and encourages students to become engaged creatively. The three robotics courses for undergraduates and graduates we have conducted thus far to provide an understanding of robotics and embodied artificial intelligence (AI) have confirmed that some of locomotive robots explicitly exploit their own dynamics - also known as “morph-functionality” - an embodied AI concept. An evaluation of this approach for course hours, task achievement, student interest, and the influence of assistance confirmed conclusively that students experienced creativity in such robotics courses.

Resumen
This article addresses the development and implementation of a test bed for applications of heterogeneous unmanned vehicle systems. The test bed consists of unmanned aerial vehicles (Parrot AR.Drones versions 1 or 2, Parrot SA, Paris, France, and Bebop Drones 1.0 and 2.0, Parrot SA, Paris, France), ground vehicles (WowWee Rovio, WowWee Group Limited, Hong Kong, China), and the motion capture systems VICON and OptiTrack. Such test bed allows the user to choose between two different options of development environments, to perform aerial and ground vehicles applications. On the one hand, it is possible to select an environment based on the VICON system and LabVIEW (National Instruments) or robotics operating system platforms, which make use the Parrot AR.Drone software development kit or the Bebop_autonomy Driver to communicate with the unmanned vehicles. On the other hand, it is possible to employ a platform that uses the OptiTrack system and that allows users to develop their own applications, replacing AR.Drone’s original firmware with original code. We have developed four experimental setups to illustrate the use of the Parrot software development kit, the Bebop Driver (AutonomyLab, Simon Fraser University, British Columbia, Canada), and the original firmware replacement for performing a strategy that involves both ground and aerial vehicle tracking. Finally, in order to illustrate the effectiveness of the developed test bed for the implementation of advanced controllers, we present experimental results of the implementation of three consensus algorithms: static, adaptive, and neural network, in order to accomplish that a team of multiagents systems move together to track a target.

Resumen
The discrete wavelet transform is usually realized by FPGA or DSP. This paper presents fast and valid image processing using discrete wavelet transform based on OMAP3530 chip which developed by TI(Texas Instruments). We employ the ARM+DSP dual-core OMAP3530 processor as the kernel of image processing. Linux Embedded System runs in the ARM side, DSP/BIOS System service run in the DSP side correspondingly. And the software development environment totally built upon the DVSDK (Digital Video Software Development Kit) which is provided by TI official website. Discrete wavelet transform algorithm adopted CE (Codec Engine) tools, which are the core of DVSDK. Finally, the image processing algorithm is inserted into CE. When the application program is running on the ARM side, the specific image is being conducted by CE on the DSP side.

Resumen
Background The process of triaging is performed as an effective solution to balance limited resources against high patient volumes, based on an assessment of the patient’s medical condition and the application of an established patient categorization protocol. In Princess Marina Hospital (PMH), a national referral government hospital in the capital city of Botswana, the Princess Marina Hospital Accident and Emergency Centre Triage Scale (PATS) has been in use since 2010. Because the rules of these triage scales are very well defined, these protocols have been shown to be amenable to translation into computer algorithms. Thus, clinical decision support systems (CDSSs) that can assist with information management to support clinicians’ decision-making abilities can be developed, leading to improved healthcare quality and patient safety. Objective This study aims to determine the feasibility of development of a mobile triage app based on the adult PATS using Open Data kit (ODK) open source software to be used as a CDSS on smartphones and tablet computers for correct patient categorization. Methods A user-centered design approach was used in designing the app, with participants recruited from the staff at the Accident and Emergency Department (A&E) at PMH. Forty clinical vignettes were used in the evaluation of the performance of the app as compared to the paper-based system currently in use with the emergency physician at PMH providing the gold standard categorization of these vignettes. Usability testing was also performed. Results The app scored 90% (n=36) of the vignettes correctly, as compared to the paper-based system which scored 82.5% (n=33) of the vignettes correctly. Both systems achieved an over-triage score of 7.5% with an equal number of vignettes over-triaged (n=3). The results of the chi-square test indicate that the difference in triage scores between the paper-based system and the mobile app is statistically significant at P=.001 in favour of the ODK app. An overall positive outcome was also achieved in the usability test with ease of use and speed of triage determined to be the most recurring themes in the user feedback survey. While the app does not require an internet connection for triaging patients, a reliable wireless internet connection is required to upload data to the server for viewing by medical officers and physicians in real time, and this can be provided by the hospital as part of the Botswana government eHealth strategy. Additionally, the app developed in this research allows for data collection up to the point of triage categorization, meaning that a separate form would be required for capturing the rest of the information on the PMH A&E triage form. Conclusions The triage app developed in this research was found to determine the triage category of patient vignettes more accurately than the traditional paper-based system based on PATS triage guidelines with good results obtained in usability testing. Future work includes use of the app developed in this research in a live setting involving real patients in the A&E in PMH.

Resumen
To achieve the potential of human factors involvement in computer-human interface design, human factors engineers must transition from being isolated specialists to integrated components of the mainstream life-cycle development process. A fundamental obstacle to this transition has been the limitations associated with traditional human factors methods. The search for better methods has resulted in a recent evolution in the human factors tool kit. While this evolution has increased tool kit utility, it is not yet as robust as needed for the development of complex systems. For the past several years the human factor team at Loral Federal Systems Company has been the central focus of system design and development activities for the Tower Control Computer Complex (TCCC). The TCCC will replace most Federal Aviation Administration airport tower cab equipment with advanced workstations and software. At least five limitations have been encountered with the traditional human factors tool kit due to the complexity of the TCCC and the environment in which it will be used. This paper describes these limitations, and the alternatives that have been successfully employed to produce an operationally suitable computer-human interface as part of an integrated life-cycle effort. At the heart of these remedies were the use of a dedicated team of representative end-users and a variety of non-traditional design evaluation techniques, throughout the project life-cycle. Among these techniques was the evaluation of laboratory prototypes using a “hands-off” intellectual review process and electronically supported group-based evaluations.

Resumen
Visualization simulation can reflect the dynamic characters of object studied lively. Satellite Tool Kit (STK), developed by Analytical Graphics Inc., is a software used for 3D simulation and analysis. It has the characteristics of powerful model library, 3D effects and sound and rapid development. This paper discusses the application mode of STK/Connect, and proposes a method that a third-part program controls the STK scenario through STK/Connect to build a 3D visualization simulation system. A case is given to prove the feasibility of the solution.
