Abstract:This article examines historic gendered negotiations over identity, descent, and access to land along Uganda’s southern littorals by thinking about belonging with an exceptionally diverse assemblage of small fish. Based on accounts from contemporary littoral residents, the comparative historic ethnographic record, and fisheries scientists, the article describes the reproductive practices of enkejje as they may have been visible from Uganda’s southern littorals and situates the practices of raising socially recognized children within broader historical developments of clanship and publ

Abstract The large radiation of terrestrial isopods (suborder Oniscidea) includes several families that are represented primarily in marine-littoral or riparian habitats. Among these are members of Ligiidae and Tylidae as well as several basal families within the section Crinocheta. Structural and physiological evidence supports a marine-littoral ancestry of the Oniscidea. We examined aerial and aquatic respiration (measured as VCO2) in six species of marine-littoral Oniscidea representing five families, as well as one riparian and one endogean species. We assessed species richness, biomass, and community type of littoral fish in 10 southern Quebec lakes in relation to several limnological and prey resource variables. Lake, yearly, and seasonal variation in biomass was evaluated by quantitative, replicated seining. Species richness averaged 12.8 in our lakes, and 24 species were collected overall. Total littoral fish biomass averaged 13.5 g∙m−2 overall and varied significantly among lakes (range 6.1–26.9 g∙m−2) and between early and late summer. Shoreline erosion downdrift of littoral barriers, such as harbor breakwaters, is a universal concern. The beneficial use of dredged sediment through placement in the nearshore downdrift of littoral barriers is common place, but key questions about the sediment transport and shoreline response remain challenging. To that end, the shoreline at Ogden Dunes, Indiana, along the southern shores of Lake Michigan is investigated with historical aerial photographs, nearshore placement records, hydrodynamic and bathymetric field data, and numerical models.

These captures represent a new record of this species from Iberian and European waters and support the known African influence in the Spanish littoral of Cadiz. The species appears closest to C. infraspinatus Hilgendorf, 1869, but the absence of a prominent ventral spine or protuberance on the cheliped meri immediately distinguishes C. clibanarius from C. infraspinatus. Although the species has been reported from wide areas in the Indo-West Pacific, records outside of India still needs to be verified.

Resumen
The flourit of early Sumerian civilization in southern Iraq marked a degree of economic differentiation, sociopolitical complexity, and urbanization previously unseen in the ancient world. This article reports the results of recent geo-archaeological investigation of three complementary resources in southern Mesopotamia that are thought to have offered an ecological advantage, thus laying the economic foundations for these developments: (1) expansive irrigable plains; (2) vast pasture lands; and (3) the littoral resources of levee back swamps/deltaic marshes. Focusing on the area of the Hawr a

Eutrophication of surface waters is defined by excessive algal growth, with consequences for drinking water treatment. The sources of phosphorus (P) in southern U.S. reservoirs that fuel peak algal productivity in late summer are still not fully understood

The aim of the present investigation is a thorough inventory of the Harpacticoida (Copepoda) of the Portuguese islands Madeira and Porto Santo to provide a basis for comparisons of the harpacticoid faunas of successive elevations of the so called ‘Madeira Hot Spot Track’. Quantitative samples from 10 sampling locations at the coastlines of both islands were analysed (eight from Madeira and two from Porto Santo) and revealed a total of 27 families of Harpacticoida. Nine of the families were determined on species level comprising 43 species of which 31 were new to science. Comparisons of the fam

Endemic amphipods (Amphipoda, Crustacea) of the most ancient and large freshwater Lake Baikal (Siberia, Russia) are a highly diverse group comprising >15% of all known species of continental amphipods. The extensive endemic biodiversity of Baikal amphipods provides the unique opportunity to study interactions and possible coevolution of this group and their parasites, such as Microsporidia. In this study, we investigated microsporidian diversity in the circulatory system of 22 endemic species of amphipods inhabiting littoral, sublittoral and deep-water zones in all three basins of Lake Baik

Resumen
Abstract The first urban culture of southern Levant collapsed and the first period of urbanisation of Canaan (Early Bronze Age I-III) terminated at around 4200 yrs BP. The Canaanites abandoned their walled cities, dispersed and underwent pastoralisation. However, the urban centres of southern Canaan were not destroyed. This fact may point to responsibility of the environmental factor and makes influence influence of anthropogenic factors uncertain, along with the most popular Amorite invasion/destruction hypothesis. A tremendous climatic change occurred at that time in many regions, affecting
