Resumen
Drivers’ steering adjustments can be categorized into one-time and chain corrections. One-time corrections lead to no further steering corrections for a minimum of one second, while chain corrections have at least two consecutive steering actions. Chain corrections represent a novel indicator of steering instability. Evolving vehicle dynamics along with drivers’ state and situational factors can cause these different correction types. In a driving simulator study, drivers’ experienced different roadway widths with and without distraction. The results show that higher steering wheel angle values at the beginning or end of a correction lead to chain corrections and the duration of these corrections tends to be shorter than adjustments not leading to chain corrections. Exploring the underlying causes of different corrections can guide efforts to model drivers’ control actions in recovering from distractions and in taking over control during automation failures.

Resumen
In this work, we mainly study quantum steering and nonlocality of two-qubit Heisenberg [Formula: see text] spin-1/2 chain via local filtering operation. Our analytical results show that quantum steering and nonlocality can be affected by coupling constant [Formula: see text], temperature [Formula: see text], external magnetic field [Formula: see text] and anisotropy constant [Formula: see text]. Quantum steering and nonlocality would degrade with the increase of temperature [Formula: see text] and anisotropy constant [Formula: see text]. When [Formula: see text] is small, we can observe quantum steering and nonlocality increase with [Formula: see text]. When [Formula: see text] getting bigger, what we will see is that steering goes down first, then grows up. We can improve quantum steering and nonlocality via local filtering operation. We chose an appropriate parameter [Formula: see text], the steering and nonlocality can be improved when we fix three in those four parameters. There is a queer phenomenon in some situations that the range of one side for steering and nonlocality can extend greatly by losing them in another side. Therefore, our investigations might shed light on steering and nonlocality under the Heisenberg [Formula: see text] spin chain model and make a little step in the progress of quantum information.

Resumen
AbstractMultiple antennas and multiple radio frequency (RF) chains in both the transmitter and receiver are required in conventional radio systems employing the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) method. This paper presents an experimental investigation of a beam-steering time-modulated MIMO receiver with a single RF chain. Implementation of the receiver is based on a time-modulated antenna array (TMAA) and a software-defined radio. The sidebands generated inherently by the TMAA are utilized as virtual spatial channels with the beam-steering functionality. Performance of the system is investigated experimentally. The bit error rate and condition number of the channel matrix are examined for different radiation patterns in order to determine favorable configurations in a given multipath environment. Obtained results show a considerable impact of the beam-steering on the performance of MIMO transmission.

Resumen
We discuss here a possibility of generation of steerable states in asymmetric chains comprising three Kerr-like nonlinear oscillators. We show that steering between modes can be generated in the system and it strongly depends on the asymmetry of internal couplings in our model. We can lead to the appearance of new steering effects, which were not present in symmetric models already studied in the literature. Full Text: PDF ReferencesE. Resumen
Abstract Background. Progression by serum free light chain (sFLC) test without or preceding progression with intact immunoglobulin (Ig) is called light chain escape. This event alone is not considered a progression for patients with Multiple Myeloma (MM) according to International guidelines, although it is often considered a progression in real life and by clinical trials' investigators. We therefore sought to determine whether light chain escape would be a predictor of relapse and thus question a possible need to modify the current criteria for progression according to the International Myeloma Working Group (IMWG). Material and method. We have reviewed 325 (323 for analysis) patients that presented with a progression in the IFM/DFCI2009 phase 3 study (Attal et al. NEJM 2017). Among these 323 patients, 260 had initial tumor bulk measurement with intact Ig by serum protein electrophoresis test (SPEP; Ig ≥ 10 g/L) and 63 light chain MM (Ig < 10 g/L) measured using urine protein electrophoresis (UPEP). All progressions were validated in the central laboratory of CHU de Nantes (Dr T. Dejoie) and followed IMWG recommendations. sFLC increase was determined by absolute increase ≥ 100 mg/L and ≥ 25% from nadir value of the difference between involved and uninvolved FLC (ΔiFLC). Light chain escape was defined as sFLC increase without progression by SPEP (Ig increase ≥ 5 g/L and ≥ 25%) or UPEP (increase ≥ 200 mg/24h and ≥ 25%). Results. Among the 260 patients with intact Ig at diagnosis, 3 (1.15%) patients presented a light chain escape: progression by sFLC test without progression by SPEP. In parallel, 228 patients (87.7%) progressed by SPEP, of whom 18/228 (6.25%) showed a sFLC increase preceding the increase of intact Ig, with a median delay of 63 days. Among the 63 light chain MM, 6 (9.5%) patients presented a light chain escape: progression by sFLC test without progression by UPEP. Interestingly, 6 other patients (9.5%) progressed by SPEP even though Ig was < 10 g/L at diagnosis. Of the remaining 46 patients, 38 (60.3%) showed sFLC increase before progression by UPEP. Finally, 8 patients (12.7%) progressed but with intact Ig pauci-secreting MM meeting none of the M spike based progression criteria. Median time from iFLC nadir to ΔiFLC ≥ 100 mg/L was 280 days for light chain MM, 496 days for intact Ig MM, and 651 days for light chain escape. Median time from ΔiFLC ≥ 100 mg/L to follow-up visit to assess progression was 402 days light chain MM, 536 days for intact Ig MM, and 713 days for light chain escape. Overall, 9 (3%) patients had true light chain escape with progression by sFLC test without any other progression criteria. In parallel, in 56 (17%) patients, sFLC increase preceded progression to MM by standard test (SPEP or UPEP). Still the vast majority of patients had a regular relapse using the standard markers for progression. Conclusion. Based on a large study of patients treated into a phase 3 clinical trial with centralized assessment of response and progression, we showed that 20% of patients had progression by sFLC without meeting standard progression markers, of whom 3% had true light chain escape and 17% early light chain increase. Even though true light chain escape seems to be a rare phenomenon, analysis of sFLC test could help to avoid delayed or missed diagnosis of progression in 20% of patients in this clinical trial. This data should be confirmed in another database to assess whether a modification in the progression criteria in MM International guidelines should be proposed. Resumen
Synchro drive uses chain sprocket mechanism to drive three wheels at vertex of triangular chaises and has limited load bearing capacities due to asymmetry. The driving and steering motors fixed near to the vertex of the triangular chassis and wear in chains over a period of time results in increased dead reckoning. The concept of simple pivot based mobile platform using two drives overcasts a conventional synchro drive omnidirectional mobile platform in many aspects .This mobile platform has symmetric chassis with six wheels that makes platform stable irrespective of any configuration. Gear trains to steer the four corner wheels in tandem with pivot wheel adds omnidirectional feature along with increased load bearing capacities and reduced dead reckoning. This paper highlights the concept of pivot steer based omnidirectional mobile platform.

Resumen
This paper presents a novel methodology for steering a cooperative transportation system comprising two car-like mobile robots coupled together via a carrier. The system is a three-input seven-variable drift-free nonholonomic mechanical system. The three control inputs are the moving velocity of the first mobile robot and the steering angular velocities of the two mobile robots. The seven variables are the positions of the first mobile robot along the x- and y-axes, its steering angle, its orientation, the orientation of the carrier, the steering angle of the second mobile robot, and its orientation. We first convert the system into two-chain, single-generator chained form, based on differential geometry. We secondly present a control method of the system with polynomial inputs derived in chained form. Validity of the conversion and the control method is verified by computer simulations performed on driving this cooperative transportation system into a garage. Resumen
The electric grid is undergoing significant changes to meet challenges of improved load control and increased generation from renewables, as well as provision of new services. The main goal of this work is to study the impact of grid’s smartening on the electricity value chain. For this, we built a model to assess investments to come on the grid during the period 2010-2030, both on traditional equipments such as lines and substations and on smartening elements. According to the French example, yearly investments would double on average in the twenty years to come compared to 2010. In the three countries considered in this study, namely France, Italy and Sweden, most investments (between 61% and 76%) occur on the distribution area. Moreover, investments on traditional equipment stand for the lion’s share (68% to 80%) of the total, even if they are partly made possible by the smaller investments on smartening elements, which enable the network to be better controlled. The share of investments on smartening elements is 2.6 to 3.1 times higher on the distribution side than on the transmission side: this denotes the fact that the needed increase in control on the grid is larger on distribution than on transmission. Differences may exist between countries regarding forecasted investments and are mainly due to the number of customers, grid’s size and the chosen generation mix. The study ends with a discussion on the repartition of the value brought by forecasted investments between traditional stakeholders and players that may appear on markets driven by new business models.

Resumen
Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) systems (also known as Active Chassis systems) are mechatronic systems developed for improving vehicle comfort, handling and/or stability. Traditionally, most of these systems have been individually developed and manufactured by various suppliers and utilised by automotive manufacturers. These decentralised control systems usually improve one aspect of vehicle performance and in some cases even worsen some other features of the vehicle. Although the benefit of the stand-alone VDC systems has been proven, however, by increasing the number of the active systems in vehicles, the importance of controlling them in a coordinated and integrated manner to reduce the system complexity, eliminate the possible conflicts as well as expand the system operational envelope, has become predominant. The subject of Integrated Vehicle Dynamics Control (IVDC) for improving the overall vehicle performance in the existence of several VDC active systems has recently become the topic of many research and development activities in both academia and industries Several approaches have been proposed for integration of vehicle control systems, which range from the simple and obvious solution of networking the sensors, actuators and processors signals through different protocols like CAN or FlexRay, to some sort of complicated multi-layered, multi-variable control architectures. In fact, development of an integrated control system is a challenging multidisciplinary task and should be able to reduce the complexity, increase the flexibility and improve the overall performance of the vehicle. The aim of this thesis is to develop a low-cost control scheme for integration of Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS) system with Enhanced Stability Program (ESP) system to improve driver comfort as well as vehicle safety. In this dissertation, a systematic approach toward a modular, flexible and reconfigurable control architecture for integrated vehicle dynamics control systems is proposed which can be implemented in real time environment with low computational cost. The proposed control architecture, so named “Integrated Vehicle Control System (IVCS)”, is customised for integration of EPAS and ESP control systems. IVCS architecture consists of three cascade control loops, including high-level vehicle control, low-level (steering torque and brake slip) control and smart actuator (EPAS and EHB) control systems. The controllers are designed based on Youla parameterisation (closed-loop shaping) method. A fast, adaptive and reconfigurable control allocation scheme is proposed to coordinate the control of EPAS and ESP systems. An integrated ESP & ESP HiL/RCP system including the real EPAS and Electro Hydraulic Brake (EHB) smart actuators integrated with a virtual vehicle model (using CarMaker/HiL®) with driver in the loop capability is designed and utilised as a rapid control development platform to verify and validate the developed control systems in real time environment. Integrated Vehicle Dynamic Control is one of the most promising and challenging research and development topics. A general architecture and control logic of the IVDC system based on a modular and reconfigurable control allocation scheme for redundant systems is presented in this research. The proposed fault tolerant configuration is applicable for not only integrated control of EPAS and ESP system but also for integration of other types of the vehicle active systems which could be the subject of future works.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of the superintendent within the school's steering chain, where he is in both the political and the professional activity systems, while at the same time he is in between the two (Svedberg, 2014; Nihlfors, 2003). How does that fact affect the superintendent’s role? How does he navigate between these two systems, where there are different laws that in different ways govern the school's work, which can also be contradictory? The questions asked are the following: · How does the superintendent relate to his role between two different activity systems: the political and the professional? · What contradictions arise in, and between, the political and the professional activity systems? The study is based on a activity theory perspective where politics and the profession each constitute an activity system. In the political activity system the object is economy, and the result to be achieved is a balanced budget. In the professional system the object is the student, and the student’s goal fulfillment is the goal. The method used is the single case study, and the collection of empirical data is done through observations of board meetings and meetings of the administrative management, interviews with the superintendent, and document analysis. In the analysis of the result, activity theory is used as an analysis tool. The results show that conflicts arise both within the respective activity systems and between them. The superintendent in the study shows awareness that he, in his assignment, has to relate to the conflicts it entails to be between politics and profession, economics and the students’ results. The results of the study add to previous research by identifying conflicts, but also by giving a suggestion on how the superintendent, who is the subject of the two systems, can play a key role.

Resumen
Recognizing radio frequency identification (RFID) as a disruptive technology unearths interesting facts that could help managers decide how to approach their RFID projects. RFID for the supply chain (RFID/SC) has attracted global attention and the adoption pace is quickening. It has characteristics resembling that of a disruptive technology. To better understand RFID/SC, we use Christensen’s principles of disruptive technology and the motivation/ability framework to illustrate the uniqueness of RFID/SC. The principles provide valuable information for managers steering their RFID projects toward success. We provide cases studies as vignettes to support the applications of the theories. The objectives of this paper are: (1) to equip managers with the knowledge of disruptive technology in the context of RFID/SC, (2) to highlight the need to assess an organization’s motivation and ability for adopting RFID/SC, and (3) to propose further research areas in RFID/SC in the IS field.

Resumen
This paper describes a nonlinear modeling approach for a double wishbone suspension developed to investigate the nonlinear kinematics and dynamics in the closed, spatial kinematic chain configuration of the suspension. This model is linked to a nonlinear rack and pinion steering subsystem model in order to study the steering nibble (steering wheel rotational vibrations). The suspension mechanism is idealized as a four degree-of-freedom model for a power assisted rack and pinion steering system, with suspension members considered as rigid links and the bushings idealized as linear spring-damper elements. A system of relative coordinates is used in the suspension subsystem model to minimize the number of equations that would be necessary due to the large number of geometrical and kinematic constraints. The equations of motion for the analytical subsystem models are derived symbolically using Maple and solved numerically using Matlab. The results of simulation of the model subjected to a virtual Kinematics and Compliance (K&C) test are compared with the results generated by the developed ADAMS model based on the parameters obtained from a vehicle manufacturer subjected to the same virtual test. Based on the results of the virtual K&C tests and quasi static simulation of the ADAMS model and the analytical models of the vehicle suspension subsystem, the kinematics results match ADAMS model very closely.

En ASME 2010 First Global Congress on NanoEngineering for Medicine and Biology. ASMEDC, 2010. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/nemb2010-13302.

Resumen
Our previous studies have shown that the flagellated nanomotors combined with the nanometer-sized chain of magnetosomes of a single Magnetotactic Bacterium (MTB) can be used as an effective integrated propulsion and steering system for microscale nanorobots. In this case, magnetotaxis has been exploited to control the swimming direction of the flagellated bacteria. This was done by inducing a directional torque on the chain of magnetosomes embedded in each bacterial cell. This approach allowed us to control swarms of flagellated bacteria of type MC-1 to accomplish relatively complex computer coordinated tasks such as micro-assemblies and drug deliveries, to name but only two examples. But the motion of each cell can also be influenced by other sensory means besides magnetotaxis, and includes chemotaxis, phototaxis, and aerotaxis. Here we show examples of MC-1 flagellated bacteria being controlled by magnetotaxis or aerotaxis. It is then demonstrated that these flagellated bacteria can not only provide an effective propulsion and steering system for future bio-nanorobots but also various sensory means capable of influencing their motions and swarm formations.

Resumen
This paper aims to elaborate the challenges and possibilities in automotive winter testing in Sweden, in particular the use of fleet management framework and steering robots, which have shown to be an interesting area for future automotive winter testing. Data was collected from a number of interviews, workshops and surveys. Automotive manufacturers (OEMs), Tier 1 suppliers and service providers (e.g. test track owners and winter test entrepreneurs) contributed to the data collection. In general, service providers want to approach their customers in the value chain to provide new or extended services. From the data, the automotive industry is constantly pressed by shorter projects, fewer prototypes and the lack of state-of-the-art test methods. Service providers find the use of remote technologies, such as fleet management, an important part of their service, especially connected to the safety of test-drivers and overall test track safety. Service providers also consider further research in the area of fleet management and remote technologies as a base for future services. The automotive industry states that the possibility to replay the last run from logged data in the vehicle enhances the services. The use of steering robots during winter testing can provide an opportunity to run repeatable and standardized testing. However, the views here vary a lot between companies regarding the usability of the steering robots during winter testing. This indicates that further research on the issue of providing standardized winter testing is necessary. Work to extend a fleet management framework and a pre-study of the usability of steering robots in winter testing have begun, using the studies presented in this paper as a basis for this work.
