I veicoli a pilotaggio remoto, o più comunemente droni, stanno sempre più prendendo piede in una società che non ha più tempo per l’attesa e desidera tutto nel minor tempo possibile. Grazie alla loro versatilità, alla loro facilità di controllo e al loro prezzo accessibile, anche i più grande player logistici hanno iniziato ad intravedere in questi mezzi un modo per diminuire i costi, aumentare il livello di servizio e cavalcare allo stesso tempo l’onda dell’avanzamento tecnologico portato avanti dai principi dell’industria 4.0. All’interno dell’ottica supply chain, i droni hanno la capacità di migliorare i processi esistenti, come per esempio le attività effettuate nell’ultimo miglio, sempre più di cruciale importanza se pensiamo a quanti prodotti vengono consegnati ogni giorno in tutto il mondo; se guardiamo invece alla logistica indoor un drone permette di ottimizzare quelle operazioni che sono per definizione time consuming e di basso valore, come per esempio le attività di inventario. Non solo, se si osserva il topic da un punto di vista più ampio è possibile immaginare come questa nuova tecnologia possa avere un ruolo cruciale anche in altre attività logistiche non direttamente correlate ad ambienti produttivi, come per esempio le operazioni di logistica umanitaria, le attività di sorveglianza e di monitoraggio, l’agricoltura di precisione, e molto altro ancora. Il tema è quindi più complesso ed attuale di quello che sembra, ed è proprio questo il motivo per cui è necessario ora più che mai aggiornare lo stato dell’arte di questa tecnologia, con lo sguardo rivolto alle attività svolte in ambito supply chain. L’obiettivo della tesi è quindi quello di entrare nel dettaglio e scoprire come tutti i processi logistici più importanti possano essere influenzati dall’utilizzo dei droni.

El emprendimiento es una tendencia a nivel global y el Perú no es ajeno a esto. Nuestro país ocupa el quinto puesto a nivel mundial con emprendimientos en etapa temprana, de acuerdo con el Global Entrepreneurship Monitor Perú, el cual es desarrollado por el Centro de Desarrollo de Emprendimientos de la universidad de ESAN. De acuerdo con Mi Banco, entidad financiera encargada de financiar a las medianas, pequeñas y microempresas comenta, que muchos de los emprendedores no cuentan con una adecuada gestión de inventarios. Incluso, algunos lo consideran poco relevante, para su giro de negocio por el tamaño de su empresa. En el presente estudio se propuso como objetivo principal crear una herramienta que permita a los emprendedores tener una mejor gestión de inventarios e insumos, acorde a estas bases se creó Logistic. Identificamos que muchos emprendedores no consideran importante la gestión de inventarios por considerarse pequeñas empresas. Además, muchas herramientas similares tienen costos muy altos para sus necesidades, por lo que este segmento de clientes lo señala como un gasto más que como una inversión que pueda generar rentabilidad. Por ello, con un precio accesible para el mercado objetivo, buscamos obtener retroalimentación de los clientes potenciales, permitiéndonos conocer con mayor detalle sus requerimientos. Además, se han agregado informes periódicos a la aplicación para que puedan comprender más fácilmente el desarrollo de su negocio. Luego de realizar un minucioso estudio de mercado, soporte matemático y proyecciones, se pudo elaborar el presente trabajo.
Entrepreneurship is a global trend and Peru is no stranger to this. Our country ranks fifth in the world with startups in the initial stage, according to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor Peru, which is developed by the Center for the Development of Entrepreneurship of the University of ESAN. On the other hand, Mi Banco, a financial institution in charge of financing medium, small and micro-enterprises, comments that many of the entrepreneurs do not have adequate inventory management. Some do not even consider it relevant, for their line of business, due to the small size of their company. The main objective of this study was to create a tool that allows entrepreneurs to have a better management of inventories and supplies, in accordance with these bases "LOGISTIC" was created. It was identified that many entrepreneurs do not consider inventory management important because they are small companies. In addition, many similar tools have very high costs for their needs, which is why this customer segment indicates it as an expense rather than an investment that can generate profitability. Therefore, with an accessible price for the target market, we seek to obtain feedback from potential customers, allowing us to know their requirements in greater detail. In addition, periodic reports have been added to the aplication so that they can more easily understand the development of your business. After having carried out a thorough market study, mathematical support and projections, the present work could be elaborated.

This diploma thesis is aimed on problems of supply chain management with selected assortment. It is focused on particular ways of supply management with fresh meat, on the flow of goods from producer to final customer and analyze the impact on key performance indicators pursued by a company. In the first three parts of the thesis is described the logistics systém in Ahold Czech Republic. In the following part of the thesis, supply chain of selected assortment is analyzed in this particular company and also how it is defined in the logistics theory. It is followed by detailed analysis of the new logistic system which was proposed to launch, including the definition of critical points. Final part of this diploma thesis is devoted to summary of expected benefits and costs and to evaluation of this new logistics system according to actual results.

Unibrands is a small company that has implemented a postponement strategy without knowing it. However, they have not implemented completely because they do not know the theories behind it. This report is an attempt to understand and analyze the problems of the implementation of postponement in the supply chain of Unibrands, in terms of examining the theoretical succeeds factors of postponement implementation in the case of Unibrands.The purpose is to determine what type of postponement strategy the supply chain use and what factors can hinder the use of postponement strategy in a SME fashion supply chain by applying an qualitative research approach. The collection of empirical data was through the interview guide approach in which we used meetings and telephone interviews with people representing Unibrands and their contact trading company. The results of this research can be concluded in few perspectives. Unibrands is imple-menting postponement in an improper format, with the results of several gaps in the supply chain related to the success factor in postponement. The request for the fully customization in colors and materials, the bottleneck of relationship developing which is caused by factory manager,  complicated procedures for sample testing, and lack of knowledge of different relationships in the supply chain. Postponement is never perfect, but for Unibrands some problems could very well hinder the efficiency in the supply chain. Solutions are proposed to solve the problems in chain. The proposals suggest re-lationship improvement and information sharing. In addition, culture adaptation by in-volving the right people in the right process.

The more enhanced and reliable healthcare facilities, depend partly on accumulated organizational knowledge. Ontology and semantic web are the key factors in long-term sustainability towards the improvement of patient treatment process. Generally, researchers have the common consensus that knowledge is hard to capture due to its implicit nature, making it hard to manage. Medical professionals spend more time on getting the right information at the right moment, which is already available on intranet/internet. Evaluating the literature is controversial but interesting debates on ontology and semantic web encouraged us to propose a method and 4-Tier Architecture for retrieving context-based document according to user’s information in healthcare organization. Medical professionals are facing problems to access relevant information and documents for performing different tasks in the patient-treatment process. We have focused to provide context-based retrieval of documents for medical professionals by developing a semantic web solution. We also developed different OWL ontology models, which are mainly used for semantic tagging in web pages and generating context to retrieve the relevant web page documents. In addition, we developed a prototype to testify our findings in health care sector with the goal of retrieving relevant documents in a practical manner.

Within the current context of competition, we can perceive the emergence of a new paradigm of business management based on the fact that companies no longer compete isolatedly or individually among themselves, but through the various supply chains they belong to. This new paradigm or concept of management refers to Supply Chain Management (SCM). Particularly, logistics has a significant impact on the SCM concept and represents the fundamental process for this concept as it propitiates the operational arrangement of the supply chain. Thus, this dissertation searched to identify the effects of the adoption of the concept of SCM and its initiatives in the logistic function of the distribution channel companies of grocery products, generating, through the Resource Based View (RBV) as classification approach, the identification of logistic capabilities and resources. For in such way, there was an ample discussion about the concept of SCM and its different views and definitions. In this context, the needed logistic capabilities and resources to adopt SCM concepts and initiatives were identified in the bibliographical revision of this research. This dissertation, through this ample discussion, will contribute to the more development of SCM theory and of unification of the logistic theory. There were various logistic capabilities, like the adoption of logistics function as a strategic activity, the adoption of concept of integrated logistics, the adoption of Lean and Agile Paradigm or Re-supplying. Additionally, there were various logistic resources, like IT (Information Technology) and its tools, the software related to logistics and Logistics Information System, crossdocking. To complement the theory discussion about SCM and logistic capabilities and resources, this research realized three case studies, whose object was to evaluate the adoption and the degree of development of these logistic elements, through the contrast between encountered theory and practice, and identify the main benefits to each company, the expected results but not reached and the main logistic problems faced for each company. With the results from these three cases, there was good adoption in the practice of logistic capabilities and resources, the literature emphasized, independently the degree of development in each company. However, it was evident the discrepancy among the researched companies as for the adoption and use of the logistic change points existent in the literature, and their development degree, that allowed suggest a hierarchy of companies in terms of the implantation of logistic capabilities and resources. Specifically, this dissertation holds a qualitative research approach, as investigative method the multiple case studies, as the instrument of data collection the interview which was carried out by semi-structured questionnaire.
Dentro do atual contexto competitivo, começa a emergir um novo paradigma de gestão empresarial baseado no fato de as empresas não mais competirem apenas entre si de forma isolada ou individual, mas sim através das diversas cadeias de suprimentos nas quais estão inseridas. Esse novo paradigma ou conceito de gestão refere-se à Gestão da Cadeia de Suprimentos (Supply Chain Management, SCM). Destaca-se que a função logística possui impacto significativo sobre o conceito de SCM e representa o processo fundamental para este conceito, na medida em que ela propicia o arranjo operacional da cadeia de suprimentos. Sendo assim, esta dissertação buscou a identificação das implicações da adoção do SCM e de suas iniciativas sobre a função logística de empresas do canal de distribuição de produtos de mercearia básica, gerando, através da Visão Baseada em Recursos (VBR) como abordagem de classificação, o levantamento de capacitações e recursos logísticos. Para isso, houve a necessidade de realização de uma ampla discussão sobre o conceito de SCM e de suas diferentes visões e definições. Ainda nesse contexto, realizou-se o levantamento, a partir da revisão bibliográfica, de capacitações e recursos logísticos necessários à adoção desse conceito. Acredita-se que esta dissertação, através desta ampla discussão, contribuirá para o maior desenvolvimento da teoria sobre o SCM e da unificação da teoria logística. Foram identificadas, no presente trabalho, diversas capacitações logísticas, dentre as quais citam-se a adoção da função logística como atividade estratégica, a adoção do conceito de Integração da logística, a adoção do Paradigma ou Ressuprimento Ágil e Enxuto, dentre outras. Adicionalmente, foram identificados vários recursos logísticos, dentre os quais mencionam-se a TI (Tecnologia da Informação) e suas ferramentas, os softwares relacionados à logística e de Sistema de Informação (SI) logística, o cross-docking, dentre outros. Como forma de complementar a discussão teórica sobre o SCM e as capacitações e recursos logísticos, esta pesquisa realizou três estudos de casos, cujo objetivo foi de avaliar a adoção e o grau de desenvolvimento desses elementos logísticos, por meio do contraponto entre teoria e prática, bem como levantar os principais benefícios trazidos para a logística de cada empresa, os resultados esperados mas não alcançados e os principais problemas logísticos enfrentados por cada empresa. A partir dos resultados destes três casos, verificou-se uma boa adoção, na prática, das capacitações e recursos logísticos destacados na literatura, independentemente do grau de desenvolvimento em cada empresa. No entanto, ficou evidente a defasagem entre as empresas pesquisadas quanto à adoção e utilização dos pontos de mudança na logística existentes na literatura, e seu grau de desenvolvimento, o que permitiu sugerir uma hierarquia de empresas em termos da implantação de capacitações e recursos logísticos. Especificamente, esta dissertação tem como abordagem de pesquisa a qualitativa, como método de procedimento de pesquisa o estudo multicasos e como mecanismo ou instrumento de coleta de dados a entrevista realizada por meio de um questionário semiestruturado.

Purpose - To analyze the relationship between supply chain management maturity, supply chain performance and financial performance in small and medium-sized enterprises (SME:s).

Design/methodology/approach - The data comprises 15 SME:s that participated in a local logistic study in Gävleborgs län. The levels of supply chain mature within these firms were based upon an interview study and the financial performance of the firms was then examined using financial reports-based data.

Findings -The results of this study indicate that there is a strong relationship between SCM maturity and SC performance in SMEs, some relationships between SCM maturity and financial performance, as well as some relationships between SC performance and financial performance. This means that if firms use maturity indicators in the SCOR areas to improve their processes, they will most likely achieve a positive effect on supply chain performance and probably also on financial performance. The result implies that the supply chain maturities in these firms are higher than expected with no one at the adHoc level.

While this study is based on a rather small number of participating firms, it would be valuable to further test the significance of the indicated correlations between SCM maturity and performance in a large-scale survey.

Research limitations/Implications - The research is an attempt to understand supply chain maturity and it´s implication on financial performance. Developing supply chain maturity is an opportunity for a company to gain superior performance. The use of this approach has been validated in several previous research studies. The research limitation of this study is the small number of participating firms.

Practical implication - Maturity models could be valuable frameworks for corporate management. This study provides statistical evidence that a SME firm that has achieved a higher maturity level in their supply chain management also can achieve higher SC performance and financial performance as well. The study further confirms the maturity model from Lockamy and McCormack (2004) as a very reliable tool for this purpose, even in extremely small firms.

Originality/Value - This study is one of very few to focus on supply chain maturity of SME:s and analyze the linkage between financial performance and supply chain maturity in SME:s. This is particularly significant since earlier research implicate that SME:s has a very low maturity and in addition to that a high potential of improvements in this area. Maybe the findings of this study can be a starting point for these SME:s to take their maturity to a higher level and improve their financial performance. These findings might be valuable for further research in the linkage between maturity and superior performance in SME:s.

This master’s thesis is performed at Department of Management and Engineering Linköping University, for Scania Omni at Scania Production Slupsk (S.P.S). Omni is responsible for development, manufacturing and marketing of city, suburban and intercity buses. After acquisition of the production unit in Slupsk in 2002 lower production cost per bus is possible. But without control over the organisation costs are rising due to late delivery fees and high stock levels. At the outset, the thesis included three clearly defined objectives:

- Map the present situation at Scania Production Slupsk regarding material flow from supplier to assembly line including a part and storage analysis.

- Benchmark the current routines at Scania Production Slupsk with other successful companies. Furthermore, conduct literature research in order to find theories and philosophies that support problem analysis and thesis solution.

- Develop standard routines for material control methods (MCM) and material supply methods (MSM).

A complimentary objective is to work as a catalyst during the time of the thesis.

The mapping of the present situation showed that MCM and MSM are very tight connected to each other. It was questioned whether this structure was the best way to manage the material flow. After a parts and storage analysis, material was divided into different segments depending of price, consumption and movement.

The benchmarking studies showed different ways to manage the material flow. Implementation of unit load, kanban and clear defined interface between departments showed potential to improve the material handling and increase effectiveness.

New routines and part segment definitions described in a logistics manual (Appendix I) were made align with a comparison between previous and recommended definitions.

The result showed that some parts needs to be controlled differently. Primary recommendations are that logistics manual shall be used when new parts are introduced into the Scala system. Responsible personnel are suppose to give suggestion concerning decision making of MCM and MSM and with help of the logistics manual the work can be more efficient, resulting in a material flow that is flexible and have potential for improvements.

Secondary, to avoid material handling to some extent implementation of two-bin system is recommended. Additional recommendations regarding two-bin system is to handle material according to unit load, which enable FIFO, traceability and higher turn over rate

The first part provides theoretical knowledge, then is indtroduces the production company and analysis of the current state of current management inventory status. Based on the analysis I have proposed measures which are more efficient inventory management. Conditions needed for the implementation of these proposals are proposed as well. The analysis part offers quantified benefits of each proposal.

Lured by the promise of bigger sales, companies are increasingly looking to raise the volume of international trade. Consequently, the amount of bulk products carried in containers and transported overseas exploded because of the flexibility and reliability of this type of transportation. However, minimizing the logistics costs arising from the container flow management across different terminals has emerged asa major problem that companies and affiliated third-party logistics firms face routinely. The empty tankcontainer allocation problem occurs in the context of intermodal distribution systems management and transportation operations carried out by logistic service provider companies. This paper considers the time-evolving supply chain system of an international logistic service provider company that transports bulk products loaded in tank containers via road, rail and sea. In such system, unbalanced movements of loaded tank containers forces the company to reposition empty tank containers. The purpose of this paper is to develop a mathematical model that supports tactical decisions for flow management of empty tank containers. The problem involves dispatching empty tank containers of various types to the meet on-time delivery requirements and repositioning the other tank containers to storage facilities, depots and cleaning stations. To this aim, a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) multiperiod optimization model is developed. The model is analyzed and developed step by step, and its functionality is demonstrated by conducting experiments on the network from our case study problem, within the boarders of Europe. The case study constitutes three different scenarios of empty tank container allocation. The computational experiments show that the model finds good quality solutions, and demonstrate that cost and modality improvements can be achieved in the network The sensitivity analysis employs a set of data from our case study and randomly selected data to highlight certain features of the model and provide some insights regarding the model’s behavior.

The future has always caught the attention of the human being. The thirst of exploring the future and to know the unknown has driven the human being toward innovativeness.

Companies are expanding their operations worldwide since the past few decades. Profit growth coupled with an effective strategy has become the primary need of global companies. Research in this area has given rise to optimization of the supply chain for higher profitability. Considering the overall strategy the company needs to plan production well in advance. The operational planning comes in picture at this moment. In order to reduce excessive inventory at each stage of the production; one should know the demand of the next stage and preferably the end customer demand. The process of sales forecasting is undertaken to predict demand at different stages. It is a complex managerial function and hence needed to be undertaken by a scientific way. The sales forecasting the function includes process of forecasting, administration, hardware, software, users and developers of forecast.

Historically sales forecasting has been considered as a side activity by most of the companies. Sales forecasting has not been considered as an important function of marketing and finance. Very few companies have seen sales forecasting by a scientific management point of view. Less research has been reported in sales forecasting in comparison to other managerial functions. Planning based on sales forecasting; may be part of a selected strategy for growth and profitability. These facts have attracted us to study sales forecasting as a managerial function.

The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze the sales forecasting process, sales forecasting system, sales forecasting methods and techniques. Further proposing possibilities of improvements in existing forecasting process is also purpose of this study.

We have selected three manufacturing companies for this study based on purposive sampling. Considering research interest in phenomenon study; we have selected a qualitative research strategy for this study. We have selected a case study method for our research as it is the most appropriate tool to study the relation between theory and phenomenon. For this research, we have collected the data by semistructured interviews based on a pre formed questionnaire. The questionnaire has been prepared with respect to our research purpose and open ended questions were used to gather extensive data. The data gathered during interviews, have been analyzed by the use of ‘Flow model’ suggested by Miles and Huberman (1994).

Results from this study shows that there is a need to see ‘sales forecasting’ as a management function rather than a computer activity. To achieve the best information integration throughout the supply chain, increased information visibility is needed. To achieve accuracy in both forecasting and planning; collaborative forecasting may be used. Forecasting software needs to have a suite of methods towards product specific forecasting. The need of customized softwares has also been indicated by this study. The need to measure performance of forecasting by means of accuracy, cost and customer relationship has been concluded.

The Swedish Textile industry has since the beginning of the 70-ties moved their production to countries with cheap labour further and further away. The production in the Baltic countries and Asia has become reality for many Swedish manufacturing companies. With today’s technology the communication with remote countries has ceased to be a problem. The difficulties have instead turned out to be more focused on transportation of goods and just in time deliveries to Sweden. In cooperation with Fristads AB we have made a study of Fristads AB´s flow of merchandise and their surrounding logistics. Our focus has mainly been on the production in Vietnam.The purpose with our study has been to clarify which important parts Fristads AB must include in their flow of materials and choices of suppliers, to be able to create an even more efficient supply chain. An effectiveness that will make Fristads AB maintain their leading position on the market. Fristads AB`s expressed ambition was that their producer in Vietnam would take over the responsible for purchase and stock keeping of the accessories.The scientific approach of the study has mainly been qualitative and we have performed several interviews with key figures within Fristads AB. We have also carried out a field study at Fristads AB’s warehouse of raw materials and productions unit at Jurkalnes in Riga, Latvia.In our theoretic frame of references we have chosen theories of Arjan J. Van Weele, Michael Porter, Ralf Blomqvist, Stig-Arne Mattsson and Peter Kraljic. The different theories discuss business logistics, effectiveness in supply chains, chain of values and strategies of choosing suppliers.1We rather quickly realized the complexity of the company and the ways they handled their raw materials. This partly because Fristads AB has many different articles, but also because they are a member of a larger organisation where many decision are made centrally. During our study we kept coming back to the fact that the absence of an integrated business system caused unnecessary redundant work of many documents. In our analysing part we compare our empiric material with our theoretic frame of reference.Our conclusions and recommendations to Fristads AB were that they should develop an even closer cooperation with their suppliers and producers, to maintain their strong position at the market. Further more we found out that an integrated business system, where all involved parties are integrated, are necessary for Fristads AB to create an effective supply chain.

Problem discussion:

 

Information Logistics has with the rising of the new technologies developed into a key is-sue for companies seeking competitive advantage. The birth and expansion of Internet has brought down the boundaries that kept business partners from sharing extensive informa-tion between each other (McClelland, 2003). The increase of information has yielded a bet-ter understanding of your business partners and one could perhaps think that it is only positive outcomes derived from the increased information sharing. However, research show upon an extensive need for structuring the information flows which relates to an or-ganization. Gartner group (2003) presented an investigation present ting that managers spend over 49 minutes every day in their mailbox for reading and sending e-mails and Del-phi Group (2002) presented figures saying that executives spend over two hours a day searching for the right information (cited in Sandkuhl, 2005). Expected outcomes for im-proving the information logistics are however not only related to time savings activities, business partners could also expect enhanced improvement regarding business processes and operational efficiency. The need for structuring the information flow is therefore an in-teresting subject to investigate and will also be the focus of this thesis. For specifying and narrowing the theoretical framework the authors have chosen to focus upon information sharing based on a web-based system. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to analyze how a company can utilize a web-based system to share information with their first tier suppliers.

Methodology: In order to fulfil the purpose a case study approach has been chosen whereas semi-structured telephone interviews have been complimented with face-to-face interviews for gathering material. The rationale for the chosen approach was because the information needed to fulfil the purpose was of the character to be found in a qualitative study by going in-depth into the field.

Conclusion:

The importance in utilizing a web-based system is for the buyer to facilitate user handiness and provide trustworthy information to suppliers. The shared information has to be cor-rect, easy accessible, and customized for suppliers. Information requested by the suppliers are, updated inventory levels, lead-time from Husqvarna to end customer, back orders, or-der fulfillment, on-time deliveries, complete orders, forecasts, and sell-through information.

Under en lång tidsperiod har transportering av gods förekommit och i dagens samhälle blir det allt mer vanligt att man anlitar en tredjepartslogistik-aktör (TPL-aktör) som sköter hela eller delar av ett företags distribution. Fallföretaget i denna studie är en nyetablerad TPL-aktör som idag inte nått ut till så många kunder som önskat. Fallföretaget erbjuder ett flertal tjänsten inom logistik, som t.ex. lagring, packning, transport, flyggodshantering och säkerhetsrådgivning.   Syftet med denna studie är att identifiera och redogöra för vilka krav som är betydelsefulla vid urval av TPL-aktör. För att kunna skapa ett underlag till studien samt besvara studiens syfte har litteraturstudier samt intervjuer genomförts med fallföretaget, tre av deras befintliga kunder samt en potentiell kund. Utifrån vetenskapliga artiklar, litteratur samt webbsidor har en relevant teori tagits fram. Studiens empiriska material som bestod av intervjuer jämfördes och ställdes i en analys, mot den samlade teorin (för att därefter kunna dra en slutsats).   Resultatet består av intervjuer med befintliga kunder att samt en intervju med en potentiell kund. I intervjun framkommer det att de mest förekommande och avgörande kraven som ställs vid val av TPL-aktör för kunderna samt fallföretaget är leveranssäkerhet, pris och kundservice. Kund A och den potentiella kunden är de enda som nämner närhet som en betydande faktor. Även informationsdelning är en faktor som nämns att vara betydande för respondenterna. Kund A samt den potentiella kunden ser flexibilitet som ett avgörande krav vid val av TPL-aktör. Alla befintliga kunder samt den potentiella kunden värdesätter leveranssäkerhet väldigt högt. Kund C anser att rätt resurser och rätt egenskaper är ett krav som ställs på TPL-aktören men även den potentiella kunden ser det som en betydande faktor.   Man kan dra slutsatsen att de främsta anledningarna till varför företag väljer att outsourcar delar av sin logistikverksamhet beror på att de vill spara pengar och fokusera på den egna kärnverksamheten. De mest förkommande kraven som ställs på en TPL-aktör enligt de kunder som intervjuats, är god leveranssäkerhet, bra pris, bra kundservice, korrekt informationsdelning och god flexibilitet. Rätt resurser och rätt egenskaper som hög pålitlighet är faktorer som specifika för just val av TPL-aktör, inom flyggodslogistik.
Transportation of goods has existed for a long period of time, and in today's society it has become increasingly common to employ a third-party logistics actor (TPL-actor) which manages all or part of a company's distribution. The case company in this study is a newly established TPL-actor which has not yet reached as many customers as desired. The case company offers a number of logistics services, such as storage, packing, transport, handling of flight goods and safety consulting.   The purpose of this study is to identify and describe what requirements are important when selecting a TPL actor.   A literature study have been conducted. Existing and potential customers of the case company have been interviewed. The study´is empirical material that consisted of interviews was compared and later, in a analysis, put up against the overall study to draw a conclusion.   As for the findings, it consists existing customers as well as an interview with a potential customer. It appears in the interview that delivery security, price and customer service are the most occurring and crucial requirements when choosing a TPL-actor. Customer A and the potential customer are the only ones that mentions proximity as a significant factor. Information sharing is also another factor which is significant according to the respondents. Costumer A and the potential customer sees flexibility as a crucial requirement when choosing a TPL-actors as well. All existing customers and the potential customer values delivery security highly. Customer C considers that right resources and right attributes is a requirement placed on the TPL-actor which the potential customer agrees upon.   As a conclusion, the main reason to why companies outsource the parts of their logistics management is to save money and focus on the core competence of the business. The most occurring requirements placed on TPL-actors according to the interviewed customers are, good delivery security, good price, good customer service, correct information sharing and good flexibility. Right resources, right attributes as well as high reliability are factors that are specific regarding the selection of TPL-actors, within air goods logistics.

Assim, empresas se especializaram em projetar, implantar e gerenciar as atividades de logística para outras empresas (Operadores Logísticos). A tomada de decisão entre realizar as atividades logísticas através de competência interna da empresa ou repassa-las aos operadores logísticos se tornou mais freqüente nos dias de hoje. O trabalho propõe um procedimento de auxílio a tomada de decisão para empresas em fase de análise da viabilidade da utilização de operadores logísticos. Por fim o procedimento é testado no campo com dados reais uma empresa de grande porte.
From the middle of 80\'s until today, the basic logistic activities are not only to consolidate buy and sales relationship, these activities became important in strategic planning, being important to reach new markets. This new logistic importance started with openning of Brazilian economy and with the increase in world competitiveness. For this reason, enterprises improvement the logistic activities techniques, as project, implementation an management and starting to execute these activities to another enterprises with do not have logistic as core competence, these enterprises are called Third Party Logistic Provider. The decision make between insourcing or outsourcing logistic activities became more frequently nowadays. This thesis propose a procedure to help enterprises in the viability analysis phase to use third party logistic provider in its supply chain. Tillverkning mot kundorder kräver oftast att hålla ett förrådslager med råmaterial. Ökade kundkrav på korta leveranstider kräver att material skall finnas tillgängligt i lager. Detta ger upphov till ökade lager hos ett företag som i sin tur gör att de binder mer kapital och samtidigt leder till en sämre av­kastning. För att undvika att hålla för stora förrådslager men samtidigt hålla en god servicenivå krävs en effektiv lagerstyrning. Syftet med detta projekt är att ta reda på hur efterfrågan ser ut hos företaget i dagsläget samt kunna ta fram en lämplig prognosmetod och beräkningsmodell mot en viss takt för lagerstyrningen. Prognos­metoderna skall vara ett underlag för inköp vid beställning av material. Detta skall ligga till grund för att standardisera arbetssättet och underlätta exempelvis arbetet för nyanställda. Syftet med arbetet är också att med hjälp av en prognosmetod kunna hålla kapitalbindningen av råmateriallagret på en lämplig nivå. De metoderna som behandlas i detta arbete är ABC-analys, be­räkning av säkerhetslager och prognosmetoder. Resultatet från detta arbete skall besvara målen som projektet strävar efter. Detta skall genom olika analyser och experiment undersöka vilken typ av prognosmetod som företaget bör använda. Metoderna och teorierna som tas upp i rapporten har även syftet att kunna användas av liknande företag. Den valda prognosmetoden skall även resultera i ett bättre underlag för att komma närmre den verkliga efterfrågan som är en del för att uppnå en förbättrad lagerstyrning. Detta har i största möjliga mån satts i relation till det arbetssätt som används på företaget idag. En del av arbetet har gått ut på att ta reda på hur mycket efterfrågan varierarat från beställning tills materialet står i råmaterialslagret. Detta har även använts för att jämföra prognosmetoderna mot det nuvarande arbetssättet. Eftersom företaget vill expandera sin produktion har även en beräkningsmodell tagits fram. Denna modell anger lagernivån inklusive säkerhetslager mot en önskad takt.
Production to customer order usually requires keeping a supply warehouse. Increased customer demands for short lead-times require that materials must be in stock. This result in increasing stock levels in a company leads to more capital tied up and simultaneously leads to poorer yields. To avoid keeping a large storage warehouse whilst keeping a good service requires an effective inventory control. The purpose of this project is to find out how the demand looks like in the current situation of the company and to develop an appropriate forecasting method and calculation model against a certain pace for inventory control. The methods mentioned in this work are the ABC analysis, calculation of safety stock and forecasting methods. The results from this work will answer the objectives of the project aims. A variety of analyzes and experiments shall be used to investigate what type of forecasting method that the company should use. The methods and theories raised in the report also aims to be used by similar companies. The aim of the selected forecasting method is also to lead to a better base, from which better forecast precision is one part in order to improve the inventory management. This has, as far as possible, been put in relation to the working methods used in the company today. Some of the work has been to find out how much demand changes during the lead times, i.e. from the ordering of raw material until the material is in the raw material stock. This has also been used to compare forecasting methods against the present approach. Because the company wants to expand its production, a calculation model has also been developed. This model indicates the inventory level to a desired pace, i.e. demand level.

The aim of this thesis is to provide to the governmental decision-maker/user, an instrument that can assist him/her in improving the infrastructure investment decision in the economical, environmental and sustainable aspects. This means that, the Return on Investment (ROI) of the concerned transport infrastructure, satisfying environmental and sustainable constraints must be positive, and corresponding to an optimal investment cost. The decision support system can be applied in two dimensions. One dimension is where the real negotiation process is occurring between private and public stakeholders, called “real time negotiation process”. The second dimension is where the negotiation process is impelled by the user (public part) without private stakeholders interaction (but with interaction through simulation), called “virtual negotiation process”. The simulation and local optimization techniques, in phase with agent technology, used in the “virtual negotiation process” enable us to achieve a certain amount of alternative decisions to the primary/suggested decision to be evaluated. The CommonKADS methodology with mathematical modeling, and agent technology have been the support respectively for extracting and implementing the knowledge in the domain, monitoring, automating and updating the decision process. The principle of “Joint logistic” [1] in my effort concerns by the means of sharing financial and information resources; This leads to the empowerment of the supply chain feedbacks (roles), involved in the earlier stages of public transport decision making-process. It appears that within the decision-making process, the government is often dealing with the conflicting objectives, while interacting with the business stakeholders. For instance, the estimated investment cost of a specific transport infrastructure can exceed the income generated by this infrastructure, thus the ROI of the concerned transport infrastructure (TI) will be negative. From this perspective the government faces three choices: a) increase the rate of the taxes applied on that transport infrastructure or any other taxes, in order to make ROI positive, this can be matter of discussion/disagreement for the business community b) reduce the investment cost which means suggest a different TI with a lower quality standard compared to the previous; this can also be a matter of disagreement between the two concerned stakeholders. c) delay of the investment in the specific transport infrastructure. In fact in the most situations the government uses the first approach, which effects might be consequently unpredictable and disastrous in the economical and environmental sense for the government. From this point of view my attempt is to propose an intelligent decision support system for governments or project groups (e.g. East West project group), involving conceptually as components web portal, database, simulator and knowledge base, that bases on an approach, that enables this negotiation/information exchange at the earlier steps of decision-making situation. This is concretized by gathering in real time accurate and relevant information from the private sector; furthermore the knowledgebase of the designed system is conceived via the experience and historical knowledge of the concerned experts in the domain.

This seems clearly a conflicting situation, however, it is possible for the companies to balance these tradeoffs by implementing the methodologies of continuous quality improvement, waste minimization, and cost reduction simultaneously for their goods or services, through good management approaches of their supply chain, inventory, and quality control process. The objective of this master project is to integrate the total quality and supply chain management methodologies within a Lean thinking framework in order to install a sustainable continuous improvement(Kaizen) process in a company near Aveiro city, the Primelux company. This will be achieved through, firstly identifying the company current working processes and then trying to improve the quality in the overall processes by minimizing the failures in preparing orders and on the after-sales processes as well as through reducing the cost by minimizing the waste using 5S lean tools applied to the LED products logistics in the Company. The work will start by developing qualitative and visual representation of the above-mentioned logistics processes and completed with a quantitative analysis that evaluate the supply chain performance through adequate metrics after applying a set of action plans that were efficiently communicated to the employees by means of an easy and illustrative training. The achieved improvements through this proposed approach that combine the 5S-Kaizen-TQM tools are reported in this report, namely a reduction in failure rate and the time saving in the execution of the logistics process that will have surely a direct impact on the company customer satisfaction.
No mercado contemporâneo as empresas competem pela angariação e manutenção do seu mercado suportadas na manutenção dum elevado grau de satisfação dos clientes e na adequação da sua oferta às necessidades evolutivas do mercado, contudo tal por si só não é suficiente para manter uma posição de mercado confortável ao longo do tempo, sendo necessário também um investimento continuo nos processos de negócio e de organização internos a cada empresa. Por estas razões as empresas precisam de gerir bem os seus processos de negócio tendo presente a redução dos custos, mantendo simultaneamente produtos e serviços de alta qualidade para manter e atrair clientes. A forma de equilibrar estes compromissos dispares é encontrada através da implementação das metodologias de melhoria contínua da qualidade, minimização do desperdício em resíduos e redução de custos globais tudo simultaneamente, através de uma boa gestão de aproximação da cadeia de abastecimento, do stock e do processo de controlo de qualidade. O objetivo deste projeto específico de mestrado é integrar os princípios da qualidade total e da gestão da cadeia de abastecimento num quadro de pensamento Lean, afim de implantar processos de melhoria contínua sustentável (Kaizen) numa empresa específica de produtos LED. Este objetivo será perseguido através de, em primeiro lugar, melhorar os processos de qualidade, minimizando as falhas na preparação de ordens de entrega e nos processos de pós-venda. Em segundo lugar, implementar-se-á a redução de custos, minimizando o desperdício, com recurso a ferramentas lean 5S aplicadas aos produtos LED e à logística na Primelux. O trabalho desenvolvido será iniciado através do desenvolvimento de representação qualitativa e visual dos processos logísticos e completado com uma análise quantitativa que permite avaliar o desempenho da cadeia de abastecimeto através de métricas adequadas após a aplicação de um plano de ação comunicado aos trabalhadores por meio de uma formação fácil e ilustrativa. A melhoria conseguida através destas abordagens propostas que combinam as ferramentas de 5S-Kaizen-TQM são relatados neste relatório e exibem como resultados uma redução na taxa de falhas e uma economia de tempo na execução do processo de logística que terá certamente um impacto direto positivo sobre a satisfação do cliente.

Nesta tese propõe-se um método heurístico para o problema de Projeto de Rede da Cadeia de Suprimentos (Supply Chain Network Design) considerando vários aspectos de relevância prática, tais como: fornecedores e matérias-primas, localização e operação de instalações, atribuição de Centros de Distribuição (CD), e grande número de clientes e produtos. Uma eficiente abordagem heurística de duas fases é proposta para a obtenção de soluções viáveis para os problemas, que inicialmente é modelado como um Programa Linear Inteiro Misto (PLIM) de grande escala. Na fase de construção, uma estratégia de Linear Programming Rounding é aplicada para se obter os valores iniciais para as variáveis de localização inteira do modelo. Simultaneamente, um método Multi-start foi desenvolvido para gerar soluções iniciais diversificadas para cada nova iteração da heurística de Rounding. Na segunda fase, dois procedimentos de Busca Local foram desenvolvidos no sentido de melhorar a solução fornecida pelo método de Rounding. Implementamos duas diferentes abordagens de Busca Local: remoção-inserção e troca. Uma técnica de Busca Tabu para orientar o procedimento de Busca Local para explorar os diferentes espaços de soluções foi desenvolvida. As formulações e algoritmos foram implementados na linguagem C++ utilizando ferramentas de otimização da COIN-OR. O método de solução foi experimentado em instâncias geradas aleatoriamente, com tamanhos diferentes em termos do número de parâmetros, tais como o número de produtos, zonas de clientes, CDs e fábricas considerando um sistema logístico de quatro níveis. As implementações computacionais mostram que o método de solução proposto obteve resultados satisfatórios quando comparados com a literatura. Para validar este método heurístico também foi usado em um caso realista, com base em dados de uma empresa de borracha que está reestruturando sua cadeia de suprimentos devido ao projeto de uma nova uma nova fábrica e produção de novos produtos. A abordagem heurística proposta revelou-se adequada para aplicação prática em um caso real de uma indústria multicommodity em um contexto determinístico.
In this thesis we propose a heuristic method for the Supply Chain Network Design (SCND) problem considering several aspects of practical relevance: suppliers and raw materials, location and operation facilities, distribution center (DC) assignments, and large numbers of customers and products. An efficient two-phase heuristic approach is proposed for obtaining feasible solutions to the problems, which is initially modeled as a large-scale Mixed Integer Linear Program (MILP). In the construction phase, a linear programming rounding strategy is applied to obtain initial values for the integer location variables in the model. Simultaneously, a Multi-start method was developed to generate diversified initial solutions from each new iteration in the rounding heuristic. In the second phase, two Local Search procedures were developed towards to improve the solution provided by the rounding method. We implemented two different Local Search approaches: removal-insertion and exchange. A Tabu Search technique was developed to guide the Local Search procedure to explore the different spaces of solutions. The formulations and algorithms were implemented in C++ code language using the optimization engine COIN-OR. The solution method was experimented in randomly generated instances, with different sizes in terms of the number of parameters, such as number of products, customer zones, DCs, and factories considering a four-echelon logistic system. The computational implementations show that the solution method proposed obtained satisfactory results when compared to the literature review. To validate this heuristic method was also used in a realistic case, based on data from a rubber company that is restructuring its supply chain due to the overture of a new factory, producing new products. The proposed heuristic approach proved appropriate to practical application in a realistic case of a multi commodity industry in a deterministic context.

The exploitation of Veddesta in Järfälla county, Stockholm, is currently the largest exploitation site in Scandinavia. The project includes not only the construction of living quarters and work places but also an extension of the city’s blue subway line from Akalla with an additional two stations. The complications with the exploitation, from a logistic perspective, arises with the fact that the exploitation site is open for public use along with multiple entrepreneurs and builders sharing the compact and busy roads. The county of Järfälla has identified the need of a collective logistics solution to manage the issue of coordinating the traffic generated by the exploitation.The report aims to suggest a logistic solution to coordinate all transports within the exploitation of urban areas and form effective transportation paths from the supplier to the construction site. The investigation is based on an examination of three project situated in the Stockholm region, Hagastaden, Gallerian and Norra Djurgårdsstaden along with traffic analyses for the area compiled by Prolog Bygglogistik AB. The assignment of creating and implementing a logistic solution for the exploitation of Veddesta is assigned to Prolog Bygglogistik AB, with Järfälla county as the employer and the report as an independent investigation.The logistical solution for Veddesta is based on principles from the conventional logistic method, Lean and Supply Chain Management. It will be situated at the existing checkpoint that has been implemented for Barkarbystaden, due to high capacity of parking trucks. This logistical model requires the use of a logistical planning system to create an even distribution of deliveries during the day, along with the requirement of a 75% usage of the trucks loading capacity. All being requirements implemented in the investigated projects.

O estudo da cadeia de suprimentos do petróleo envolve uma série de subsistemas que interagem entre si nos processos de exploração, transferência do petróleo para os terminais, armazenagem em tanques e transferência para as refinarias. Tais subsistemas devem ser estudados com um grau de detalhe de tal forma a elucidar todas as características que regem cada um dos processos, buscando identificar condições ideais, ótimas e principalmente as interferências que ocorrem dentro e entre cada um deles a fim de compor um projeto da cadeia de suprimentos. Nesse contexto, o presente trabalho pretende examinar as características dos principais subsistemas que compõem o segmento upstream, cujo escopo abrange desde o subsistema de produção das plataformas até o envio do petróleo para as refinarias, com destaque para o subsistema de transporte marítimo que é o elo vital e talvez o maior gargalo no escoamento do petróleo. A metodologia a ser empregada compatibiliza decisões em níveis de planejamento hierárquico distintos, buscando inicialmente identificar o dimensionamento dos principais recursos no plano estratégico e posteriormente efetuar a programação dos mesmos em nível tático/operacional. Os modelos computacionais foram desenvolvidos utilizando o software ARENA, versão 5.0. e o CPLEX, versão 10.0, para os modelos de simulação e otimizante, respectivamente. As ferramentas criadas permitiram efetuar análises de dimensionamentos dos recursos envolvidos tais como capacidades e subdivisões dos tanques de armazenagem das plataformas, terminais e refinarias, alocação dos navios e seqüências de bombeamento. Concomitantemente, foi possível avaliar o grau de relevância dos parâmetros de entrada, tais como o porte e a velocidade dos navios, o nível de tancagem das plataformas e dos terminais, os tempos de carga e descarga nos terminais e as políticas de bombeamento dos terminais para as refinarias, bem como avaliar os impactos na modificação dos mesmos. O modelo otimizante foi adotado para ratificar ou aprimorar o resultado apresentado pelo modelo de simulação, completando a ferramenta de apoio à decisão que possibilita analisar cada cenário rodado e compor o projeto da cadeia de suprimentos de petróleo.
The study of the petroleum supply chain involves several subsystems that interact among themselves in the whole processes, since the oil production, transportation for the terminals, storage in tanks and transfers for the refineries. These subsystems must be studied which a high detail aiming to elucidate all characteristics related to each one of the processes, allowing to identify the best conditions and mainly measure the interferences that occur inside and among these processes to compose a petroleum supply chain project. In this context, this thesis aims to study the main characteristics of these subsystems that compound the upstream segment, comprised from petroleum production by platforms up till the dispatch to refineries, with distinction to the transportation subsystem. The adopted methodology join decisions based in different hierarchy planning, starting with the evaluating the main resources at the strategic plan and afterwards, take a programming decision on tatic/operational plans. Models developments used two approaches: simulation and optimization. These models were developed in ARENA, v.5 and CPLEX, v. 10.0, for the simulation and optimization models, respectively. This set allowed to study several analyses of the main parameters and factors that bring relevant influences to the supply chain. The models application encloses the evaluation of the resources such as terminal and platform tank capacities, vessel deployment, oil pumping politics. The optimization model was adopted for corroborate the simulation results concluding the decision support tool and compound the petroleum supply chain project.

Purpose: In this study, areas of use of blockchain technology in transportation management will be discussed. The purpose is to contribute with theoretical research of advantages and disadvantages of blockchain technology in transportation management before an implementation at Rhenus Logistics.   Methodology: Through interviews and literature, ways of using blockchain in transportation management is researched. A case study is set up, to further analyze the research topic from the view of an individual third-party logistic company.  Findings: Results showed that for a third-party logistic provider to successfully use blockchain technology within transportation management, it is important to have the entire network onboard in the process. If so, functionalities such as track and trace, digital handling of paperwork and smart contracts could be used. The advantages of using blockchain technology for transportation management at Rhenus Logistics were found to be trust, transparency, traceability, efficiency, cost-saving opportunities and the use of smart contacts. Identified disadvantages for Rhenus Logistics was that blockchain is costly, stakeholders are hesitant to get involved, smart contracts are not considerate of blurry lines in real life practice and there is a challenge in finding an accurate blockchain design for their business model.

Purpose: Continously growing cities and increasing population sets new demands inthe building industry. Contractors are facing new challenges regarding constructionsite-logistics in densely populated areas where the use of large transports is limited.Many of the actors involved in construction logistics don’t seem to recognize thepotential in early-stage cooperation and sharing of information. Large improvementsare available in the construction logistics which seem to lack structure and goodplanning. Large demands are going to be put on contractor corporations where smartlogisticsolutions can be a deciding factor for competition and thus, important toidentify. Method: In order to supply answer to this thesis question formulation a case study wasperformed at Skanska AB Sverige. The methods used are literature-review, documentanalysisand interviews. The literature-review helped gathering knowledge in the fieldas well as providing a framework in chapter four. The document-analysis where usedto identify the guidelines and tools that Skanska AB Sverige uses today. The interviewstook place at Skanska AB Sverige where employees on influential positions suppliedtheir view on the construction logistics. Findings: The thesis examined four problem areas within construction logistics:material flow issues, internal communication, external communication and complexity.The study showed that the largest problem was material flow issues in citylogisticswhere it was shown that the problems included was uncertainty of time of delivery,transport issues, uncertainty of space requirement and space for waste storage. Theproblems may be solved through thorough planning and inclusion of more actors in theplanning. An increased use of join-distribution may also prove beneficial to the projectsas more space and time is created. Implications: The thesis conclude that information of solutions exist today but that itmust find a way to reach the project in a better way. Problems regarding the externalcommunication with subcontractors was found in the interviews which could beprevented through a better understanding between different actors through inclusion inthe early stage planning and continuous involvement. As a recommendation to furtherresearch we recommend to examine the profitability of joint-distribution and supplychain management. Limitations: The the thesis is limited to construction enterprise where logistics isexamined where it is in direct contact with the construction site. The supply chain ofsubcontractors and their handling of materials is not studied in this report.
Syfte: Ständigt växande stadskärnor och ökad befolkning ställer nya krav påbyggmarknaden. Entreprenörer ställs inför nya utmaningar gällandearbetsplatslogistiken på trånga innerstadprojekt där stora transporter är begränsade.Många inblandade som berörs av logistikfrågor ser inte den stora potentialen isamarbete och utbyte av information. Stora förbättringsmöjligheter finns gällandelogistiken inom byggbranschen vilken saknar struktur och bra planering. Stora kravkommer ställas på entreprenadföretag där smarta logistiklösningar kan vara enavgörande konkurrensfaktor därför är det viktigt att identifiera dessa möjligheter. Metod: För att besvara rapporten frågeställningar utgick examensarbetet från enfallstudie. Metoderna som användes för datainsamling var litteraturstudie,dokumentanalys och intervjuer. Litteraturstudier hjälpte med att införskaffa kunskap iämnet samt gav grund i empirikapitlet. Därefter gjordes dokumentanalys för attidentifiera Skanskas Sverige AB riktlinjer och hjälpmedel som finns idag.Avslutningsvis intervjuades personer på företaget för att se deras syn kringlogistiksituationen. Resultat: Rapporten undersökte fyra problematiska områden inom bygglogistiken:materialflöde, intern och extern kommunikation samt komplexitet. Studien visade attproblem kring materialflöde var största bekymmer utifrån logistiksynpunkt. Inom detområdet fastställdes problematik kring leveransreliabilitet, transportproblem påbyggarbetsplats, osäkerhet om utrymmeskrav och hantering av avfall. Problemen kanlösas genom noggrannare planering och inkludering av flera aktörer i planeringen.Ökning av samlastning tycks också gynna projekten där mer plats och tid skapas.Medarbetarnas okunskap gällande samlastning skapar rädslan för extra kostnaderistället för att se möjligheter. Konsekvenser: Rapportens slutsats är att information kring lösningar som finnstillgängliga i dagsläge måste nå projekten på ett bättre sätt. Problem kring den externakommunikationen med underentreprenörer konstaterades. Bättre förståelse förvarandras arbetssätt kan skapas genom täta avstämningar och bättre involvering. Somförslag till vidare studier kan lönsamhet av samlastning respektive supply chainmanagement för olika typer entreprenader undersökas. Begränsningar: Studien är avgränsad till ett byggentreprenadföretag på husbyggnaddär logistiken undersöks endast i direktkontakt med byggarbetsplats.Underentreprenörernas leveranskedja och hantering av material beaktas inte i dettaarbete.

Background: In a larger picture, companies are hiring third party logistics operators who have the task to manage all or part of logistics operations such as storage, transport and packaging. The case company strives to constantly improve in order to get a better understanding of the requirements in connection with procurement. More and more demands are placed on the corporates responsibility along with the procurement. Corporate social responsibility describes a company’s responsibility judging by three dimensions: Ecologic, economic and social. Purpose: The purpose is to decide from a corporate social responsibility perspective which demands are meaningful while purchasing logistic services from a third party logistics operator. Method: This study is a case study at a third party logistics operator. The study is built upon an abductive research approach and the results are collected through semi- structured interviews with the company along with the three potential customers. This theoretical referencing is built from scientific article, books and websites. Conclusion: The amount of requirements put on a third party logistics operator from an economical responsibility perspective is twice as much with ecological responsibility perspective. The least demands is required by social responsibility. The operator’s price and quality on the service, correctly maintained goods, withholding of vehicles, ability to communicate electronically and localizing are the requirements that are made from the economical responsibilities perspective. Fuel usage and environmental class vehicles and that the operator has an environmental goal are required by ecological responsibilities perspective. The social responsibilities perspective requires long-term collaboration and fair working conditions. This study has contributed knowledge about the requirements by corporate social responsibilities three dimensions and how they affect third party logistics operator.
Bakgrund: I en allt större utsträckning anlitar företag tredjepartslogistik-aktörer som har till uppgift att sköta hela eller delar av logistikverksamheten som lagring, transportering och paketering. Fallföretaget, som är en tredjepartslogistik-aktör, strävar efter att ständigt förbättras för att få en ökad förståelse för de krav som ställs i samband med upphandling. Allt fler krav ställs på företags ansvarstagande i samband med upphandling. Corporate social responsibility beskriver ett företags ansvarstagande utifrån tre dimensioner: ekologiskt, ekonomiskt och socialt. Syfte: Syftet är att utifrån corporate social responsibility utforska vilka krav som är betydelsefulla vid inköp av logistiktjänster från en tredjepartslogistik-aktör. Metod: Denna studie är en fallstudie hos en tredjepartslogistik-aktör. Studien bygger på en abduktiv forskningsansats och resultatet är insamlat genom semistrukturerade intervjuer med fallföretaget samt tre potentiella kunderna. Den teoretiska referensramen är uppbyggd utifrån vetenskapliga artiklar, böcker och hemsidor. Slutsats: Antalet ställda krav på en tredjepartslogistik-aktör utifrån ekonomiskt ansvarstagande är dubbelt så många jämfört med ekologiskt ansvarstagande. Minst krav ställs utifrån socialt ansvarstagande. Este trabalho visa identificar como ocorre o alinhamento entre as características logísticas e as prioridades competitivas, numa empresa que tenha capacidade competitiva. As características logísticas dentro da conjuntura empresarial começam a ser consideradas importantes pelas empresas com o aumento da complexidade de suas operações. Dentro desse ambiente, a partir da década de 80 a logística começa a ser considerada chave de diferenciação e, nesse período, as empresas ou agentes participantes começam a trabalhar os problemas logísticos em conjunto, dando então origem ao termo Gerenciamento da Cadeia de Suprimentos (GCS). O trabalho realizado foi divido em três etapas: construção da fundamentação teórica, pesquisa sobre os componentes técnicos e físicos do GCS e o estudo de caso efetivamente realizado. Globalization that diminishes the barriers to trade worldwide has transformed the structure of production and increased the global competition in the textile and apparel industry. Especially, the elimination of quotas on January 2005 has totally changed the whole scenario of the apparel industry. A boom has been noticed in the emerging markets. Buyers shift their maximum orders to the low cost countries to increase their profit margins. China has gained its popularity among the European and American buyers because of the cheap labor and large scales of production and has become the world’s largest exporter of textile and apparel. The traditional competitive factor among the buyers is the lower cost of the product but the changing markets trends and demand volatility pushes the buyers to focus also on quality and lead times in addition to price. Due to the huge competition among the cluster of brands, retailers and wholesalers, lead time is becoming critical as longer lead times increases the risk of bottleneck to sales. China is the most important apparel supplier for the EU (especially Germany, the UK, and France) because it provides the cost benefit to the sourcing companies, but at the same time, it increases the lead times and also has more environmental impact in terms of pollution because of the long geographical distance.This thesis highlights that there is a remarkable rise of the labor cost in China, noticed for the last couple of years, which has reduced the competitive factor of price while sourcing from China. This is also an upcoming challenge for the whole world with regards to sourcing strategies. Many sourcing companies are shifting their shares away from China in order to achieve their desired profit margins. Turkey may be an alternative sourcing destination for the European apparel buyers and wholesalers because of its competitive labor cost, favorable government policies, flexibility, sustainability, and proximity to Europe. In this thesis, a pilot study is carried out to determine the relationship and effects of lead times on sales. This thesis also describes the effects of relationships among the business partners on the supply chain flow. It is noted through several pilot studies that the organizations who work in collaboration with their supply chain partners can significantly improve their supply chain efficiency by reducing the inventories, markdowns, lead times, lost sales, and increasing forecast accuracy. There are several tools in use for collaboration such as Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI), Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), Just in Time (JIT), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), and Collaboration, Planning, Forecasting, and Replenishment (CPFR). In this paper the CPFR implementation steps, benefits, and hindrances are discussed in detail.

This examination work aims to describe how a supply chain around the biggest pellets factory in Sweden will be configured in a logistic perspective. The plant and associated infrastructure are in the building phase and will have production start on the 2 November 2009. The key question that is set in this examination work is to recognize the logistic processes which are essential for an effective flow of materials and information that link the source of supply with the ultimate customer. In order to get the answer, a flowcharting of these supply chain processes is required for understanding the pipeline activities such as input and storage of raw material, the production system and the output of pellets to the customers. The basis for this supply chain map is a model-based representation of these logistic processes and activities that are involved around the pellets factory. This model was configured according to scientific theories and the supply chain's fundamental concept. In these maps, the model will highlight the network of inter-linked activities in the system and finally show the opportunities for recommendations and improvements in productivity through reengineering those logistic processes.

Áreas de impacto aparentemente não financeiro vêm assumindo papel de grande relevância no mundo dos negócios. E, o grande desafio consiste em encontrar equilíbrio entre baixo custo e um elevado padrão de qualidade, considerando aspectos de desenvolvimento sustentável e atendendo às reivindicações da sociedade. Neste cenário, há que se considerar o aumento no consumo e conseqüente descarte de embalagens e resíduos dos mais variados tipos. Assim, áreas como a logística reversa pós-consumo vem ganhando destaque. As garrafas PET são um exemplo de produtos que podem ser reciclados e reinseridos na cadeia produtiva. Mas, para isso é necessário o envolvimento de todos os atores que participam desta cadeia de produção, consumo, descarte e reciclagem das embalagens. Da mesma forma, a responsabilização dos fornecedores pelo recolhimento de suas embalagens, a substituição de materiais, bem como um maior reaproveitamento dos resíduos, contemplam práticas de logística reversa e, de forma mais abrangente, envolvem aspectos da Gestão Sustentável da Cadeia de Suprimentos. Assim, o objetivo principal desta pesquisa consiste em investigar limitações e oportunidades presentes nas práticas de logística reversa pós-consumo de duas indústrias de diferentes setores. Para isso foram escolhidos dois segmentos: (i) produção de carrocerias e ônibus – empresa Bus S.A. e (ii) indústria de bebidas – empresa Soft Drink S.A. O intuito é estudar duas situações contrastantes sob a perspectiva da cadeia produtiva. No primeiro caso, o foco são materiais e embalagens, especialmente as de produtos químicos, utilizados pela empresa e que retornam, ou deveriam retornar, aos seus fornecedores. No segundo caso, a pesquisa aborda o processo de produção, consumo, descarte e reciclagem de embalagens PET, ou seja, o foco recai principalmente sobre as práticas relacionadas ao pós-consumo externo. O método utilizado foi o estudo de caso, com realização de entrevistas e os dados foram analisados através da análise de conteúdo e triangulação. Os principais resultados apontam que as práticas de logística reversa são amplamente influenciadas pela articulação dos atores das cadeias produtivas e, principalmente, pelas políticas públicas de incentivo e suporte ao descarte correto, reciclagem, produção de resina reciclada, coleta seletiva e conscientização do consumidor.
Areas of impact apparently non financial have been taking a role of extremely prominence in the world of business. The great challenge consists of finding a balance between a low cost and a high standard of quality, considering aspects of sustainable development and complying with the society‟s claims. In this scenery one has to consider the increase number in consume and therefore waste of packaging and residues of the most diverse types. Thus, fields as the reverse logistic post-consume has been gaining distinction. Discarded bottles are ways of example of products which can be recycled and reinserted in the productive chain. But, for such it is necessary involvement of every agent who take part of this productive chain, consume, discard and packaging recycling. In the same way, the responsibility of suppliers by packaging collecting, materials replacement as well as a better reuse of its residues contemplate practices of reverse logistics and of a more comprehensive way that involve aspects of Sustainable Management of the Supply Chain. So, the main goal of this research consists of investigating restraints and opportunities in the practices of reverse post-consume of tow industries of different sectors. For such two segments were chosen: (i) production of coach body and coaches – company Bus S.A. e (ii) industry of beverages – company Soft Drink S.A. The aim is to study two contrasting situations under the productive chain perspective. In the first case, the focus on materials and packaging mainly of the chemical products used by the company and that return or should be returned to its suppliers. On the second case the research approach the production process, consumption, discard and discarded bottles‟ recycling, that is, the focus falls into mainly the practices related to external post-consumption. The method used was the case study, with interviews taking place and data were analyzed through the content and triangulation. The main results show that the reverse logistic practices are widely influenced by the productive chain agents‟ dispute and mainly by public policies of incentive and support to the right discard, recycling, production of recycled resin, selective collecting and consumer awareness.

Välutvecklade logistiska processer kan ge ett företag stora konkurrensfördelar vilket resulterar i ökade marknadsandelar (Christopher, 1998). En stor del av den logistiska processen är lagerhållning. Inom lagerhållning är dilemmat var och i vilka kvantiteter lagret skall hållas. I detta arbete är det lagerkvantiteterna som har undersökts. Vanligtvis består ett lager av två delar säkerhetslager och omsättningslager. Ett säkerhetslager används för att hantera fluktuationer i efterfrågan. Ett för litet säkerhetslager kan leda till missade kundorder och extra kostnader. Medan ett för stort säkerhetslager gör att kapitelbindningen och lagerkostnaderna blir onödigt stora, varför företag strävar till att minska dessa kostnader (Crocker, et al., 2012).Bosch Rexroth har nyligen infört säljledtider gentemot kund, detta skapar utrymme för att minska lagret. Samtidigt kan deras produkter säljas på två sätt, som reservdel eller så kan den användas som komponent i deras produktion. För dessa tre ändamål har produkten en bestämd inköpsledtid, men tre olika säljledtider och säljs i olika kvantiteter för de tre olika ändamålen. Med dessa förutsättningar har vi undersökt vilka möjligheter som finns till att förbättra den logistiska prestandan då ett väl koordinerat säkerhetslager kan leda till kostnadsbesparingar på mer än 15 % (Kelle, 2005).I detta arbete har två olika koncepts utvärderats, en ny säkerhetslagerberäkning och en alternativ ABC-klassificering. Dessa två koncept utvärderades genom simulering i ExtendSim för att se att de nådde upp till samma fyllnadsgrad som tidigare. Våra resultat visar att det med en alternativ ABC-klassificering och en förfinad säkerhetslagerberäkning går att sänka säkerhetslagerkostnaderna med nästan 60 % utan att minska fyllnadsgraden. Fyllnadsgraden mättes genom ett flertal simuleringar med data insamlad både ifrån fallstudien och slumpmässig.
Logistics management is increasingly seen as a source for competitive advantage. Managing it efficiently leads to reduced costs which provide the company the opportunity to increase their market shares (Christopher, 1998). The usage of warehouses is an important aspect in logistic management. Warehouses are however usually associated with increased costs rather than increased customer value. Companies therefore strive to reduce all costs associated with warehousing by minimizing the time items are stored in the warehouse (Crocker, et al., 2012). By lowering the inventory, the companies however increase their risk for stock-outs which may lead to increased cost rather than decreased along with annulled orders. To prevent such things from happening companies can apply a safety inventory. The safety inventory also known as the safety stock is intended to handle such risk that is caused by variations. These variations are usually associated with fluctuations in demand, delayed replenishment orders or deviation in quantity. If the safety stock is coordinated well it can lead to cost savings of more than 15 % (Kelle, 2005).Bosch Rexroth AB have recently implemented a sales lead time in their business strategy with aim to reduce the inventory costs hence make them more competitive. However, even after these changes the safety stock policy has remained the same. In this report alternative calculation methods have been investigated with expectation to decrease the safety inventory costs while keeping the same level of. Furthermore, the current ABC-classification has been investigated as well.In this work two different concepts were reviewed, a new safety stock calculation and a new ABC-classification, with aim to integrate the sales lead times. In the end, a combination of these concepts where used which resulted in a reduction of the safety inventory by 60 % while remaining the same level of delivery performance. The delivery performance was measured through multiply simulations with both real data gathered from the case study and randomized numbers.
