Texto completol Aydin July, 2006, 81 pages The main purpose of the present study is to investigate the relationship between attachment styles and perfectionism as a function of gender in Turkish high school students. Factor structure of Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale in Turkish high school was also investigated. Four hundred and ninety five 11th grade high school students from four different state high schools in Ankara participated in the study. Turkish versions of Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (MPS, Oral, 1999) and Relationship Scale Questionnaire (RSQ, Sü

r, 1999b) were administered to students to collect data in the class settings. Factor analysis was employed to MPS items to identify the dimensions of perfectionism as perceived by the participants. Factor analysis revealed three factors named self-oriented perfectionism, other-oriented perfectionism and socially prescribed perfectionism. A 2 (gender) x 4 (attachment styles) factorial MANOVA was conducted to examine the possible associations between attachment styles and perfectionism and, whether such a relationship varies as a function of gender. The results of the MANOVA revealed no significant relationship between attachment styles and perfectionism as a function of gender.

Texto completoPerfectionism has been referred to as “the tyranny of the should” (Horney, 1950). Decades of research has provided links between the personality constructs of perfectionism and locus of control and depression. The purpose of this study was to examine the potential for locus of control orientation to contribute to the relationship between perfectionism and depression, primarily focusing on a “middle” group (neither internal, nor external locus of control). Results indicate that the “middle” group for locus of control are less likely to have depressive symptoms when paired with perfectionism.

The Relationship Between Perfectionism and Work Effort Abstract The document about relationship between perfectionism and effort hasn’t been discussed by scholar so far. Moreover, the research of perfectionism and effort mainly focused on non-workplace. However, in this study, we extend it to the workplace. Investigating the three dimensions of perfectionism about employees, includes: discrepancy, high standards and order to analysis the relationship between perfectionism and work effort. We have accomplished this research by doing the survey over 500 questionnaire sheets. As a result, 472 sheets were returned, 210 sheets were valid, the valid rate was 42%. We found out that relationship between the discrepancy of perfectionism and work effort is negative by running correlation and regression analysis using SPSS system. In the other hand, the relationship between the high standards of perfectionism and work effort is positive. Meanwhile, the relationship between the order of perfectionism and work effort is positive. According to these data, the relationship between perfectionism and work effort was discussed in this study, which might be a valuable source for management practices and research in the future. The purpose of the study was to examine the relationships of adaptive and maladaptive perfectionism, goal orientation and athlete burnout. A total of 254 high-school athletes were recruited for the study and completed multi-dimensional perfectionism scale (MPS, Frost, 1990), the Athlete Burnout Questionnaire (ABQ; Raedeke &; Smith, 2001), and the Task and Ego Orientation in Sport Questionnaire (TEOSQ; Duda &; Nicholls, 1989). Regression analyses showed that maladaptive perfectionism positively predicted ego goal orientation and athlete burnout. In addition, adaptive perfectionism was also found to positively predict task goal orientation while task goal orientation negatively predicted athlete burnout. The results partially supported the research hypothesis, and the findings were discussed, application and future research directions were also proposed.

Abstract The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship among perfectionism, attachment and life adjustment in university students. The survey data were collected from 327 students in northern Taiwan. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s product-moment correlation, and multiple regression analysis. 1. The findings of the study indicated that maladaptive perfectionism and attachment were correlated to each other. Maladaptive perfectionism was affected by attachment style more than adaptive perfectionism. 2. Students’ attachment and life adjustment were correlated to each other. Secure attachment reflects better adjustment than insecure attachment. Secure attachment tends to exhibit positive self-assertiveness and more resources from family, friends and teachers at school. 3. Perfectionists experience psychological symptoms. Adaptive Perfectionists have better adjustment than those with maladaptive perfectionism. Adaptive Perfectionists tends to have positive self-assertiveness and more resources from family, friends and teachers at school. 4. Student’s degrees of perfectionism and attachment could predict their life adjustment with about 43% accuracy.

Research background & aims: Nowadays, as men and women usually devote themselves to both work and family, there might be conflicts between work and family. Therefore how to have good adjustment is an important topic. Some research have already pointed out that individual differences may moderate the relation between the WFC (including work interfere with family and family interfere with work) and its consequences, but without investigation on specific personality traits. Perfectionism refers to the personality traits such as caring about achievements or striving for high personal standards, which should have both positive and negative influences in the work and family domains. The aim of this research was to explore whether perfectionism, like other personality traits, moderated the relation between work-family conflict and subjective well-being. Methods: 317 full-time workers in the north and north-east of Taiwan participated in the research. The research used the survey method and the questionnaire consisted of the Work-Family Conflict Scale, Work Satisfaction Scale, Family Satisfaction Scale, Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS), Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS), and the Chinese Version of the Almost Perfect Scale – Revised. All the measures had been granted permission to use only for this research. In order to examine the hypotheses testing, the data were analyzed by using Pearson product–moment correlation and hierarchical multiple regression. Results: Only maladaptive perfectionism moderated the relation between the WFC and life satisfaction, and that of the WFC and positive and negative affect difference. Within different ranges of the WFC, maladaptive perfectionism moderated the above relations in different ways. Discussion: Results indicated that there were different moderation effects of maladaptive perfectionism between the WFC and subjective well-being. Perhaps when one experienced the stressful situation which one could control well, maladaptive perfectionism might lead someone to use emotion-focused copying styles such as denial or avoidance. Therefore in order to treat clients with high maladaptive perfectionism, psychologists must understand the degree of the conflicts, and make suitable plans for the clients through discussing with them, helping them understand themselves, developing other coping skills, and increasing their resources to deal with the stresses. Future research may focus on the positive direction of the work-family interface, other structures of perfectionism, or the effects of other demographic variables on the WFC.

Abstract The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship for Adolescences among Parenting Style, Dual autonomy and Perfectionism. The participants were 808 students in high schools of southern Taiwan, which completed the subject with “Personal Information”, “Parenting Style Scale”, “Adolescent Autonomy Scale”, and “Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (MPS)”. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, chi-square test (χ2 test), t-test, one-way ANOVA, pearson product-moment correlation, two-way ANOVA, stepwise multiple regression respectively. The main findings were shown as following: 1. The adolescent feels medium-to-high level of “Responsiveness” from “Parenting Style”, and “Demandingness” is medium. 2. The adolescent scores medium-to-high level of “Dual autonomy (individuating & relating)”, and that "individuation" is higher than "relating ". 3. The “Positive striving” perfectionism for adolescents is significantly higher than “maladaptive evaluation concerns “perfectionism. 4. As for feeling the “Centered-type parenting style” by father, male adolescents is much higher than female adolescents; as for feeling the “Neglecting type parenting style” by mother, neutral-gender adolescents is much higher than female-gender adolescents. 5. For “Individuation autonomy”, male adolescents and gender as male both get higher score than female adolescents. . 6. For“Positive striving” perfectionism, male adolescents with the higher level than female, but no differ for gender identify. 7. As affecting the development of adolescent Perfectionism, the "Parenting style" is greater than "Dual-autonomy". 8. For “Parenting Style”, as affecting the development of adolescent Perfectionism, the "Authoritarian type" is greater than "Centered type" and “Neglecting type”. 9. For “Parenting Style”, as affecting the development of adolescent Perfectionism, the “Authoritarian type” is greater than “Neglecting type". 10. There is the significant correlation between adolescent “Dual-autonomy development” and “Perfectionistic Strivings development”. 11. The adolescents “Dual-autonomy” is the best way to forecast the level of “Perfectionistic Strivings”. 12. As developing the “Perfectionistic Concerns” for adolescents with low “Dual-autonomy”, the impact from authoritative parents is greater than others. According to the research findings, this article provides some suggestions for Adolescences, Parents, Counseling professionals and Educators in school, and the other related studies in the future.

The present study examined the relationships among romantic perfectionism, couples’ interpersonal perception and relationship satisfaction in a sample of 440 heterosexual Taiwanese university and graduate students in dating relationships longer than a three-month period. The findings were threefold: first, self-oriented romantic perfectionism and partner-oriented romantic perfectionism were negative predictors of relationship satisfaction; second, couples’ interpersonal perception (the perception that few active love and protection, few affirmation and considerable attack and neglect were provided by one’s partner) mediated the negative predictive relationship between romantic perfectionism (self-oriented romantic perfectionism and partner-oriented romantic perfectionism) and relationship satisfaction; third, compared to self-oriented romantic perfectionism, partner-oriented romantic perfectionism was more detrimental to relationship satisfaction; had higher percentages of explained variance in couples’ interpersonal behavior; had stronger mediating effect on the negative predictive relationship between romantic perfectionism and relationship satisfaction. Limitations, future research directions, and guidance and counseling implications of these findings are discussed.

Most athletes went through a longtime of intense training starting from teenager years to adulthood, In order to pursue excellence and leave a good impression from their coaches, they tend to over-train themselves when they are under a great deal of pressure and play in an intense schedule. This not only affects their performance in the game, but also lowers their self-confidence, thus making them more prone to burnout. Lots of people tried to be perfect on many aspects of their lives, but according to the research by Gould, Tuffey, Udry and Loehr (1996a,1996b,1997). Athlete’s Perfectionism is one of main reason that leads to athlete burnout. The main objectives of this study are - 1. To get an overview of the perfectionism and athlete burnout from professional baseball players. 2. To study perfectionism and athlete burnout from different background variables. 3. To understand the relation between perfectionism and athlete burnout from professional baseball players. This study is based on athlete burnout questionnaires replied from 126 professional players in Taiwan, and 3 professional players oversea. The questionnaires were filled out during February and March this year. The result shows that the more players are inclined to neurotic perfectionism, the more likely they are prone to athlete burnout. The result from this study matches the results from many other researchers. We suggest team owner to adjust salary structure, and provide psychological counseling in order to reduce athlete burnout.

Research background & aims: Considering researches have brought the inconsistent connection between perfectionism and psychophysical adaptation, this study based on the diathesis-stress model and hypothesized perfectionism can be a predisposing factor to relate with subjective stress, coping style, and psychophysical adaptation. The first purpose of this study was to construe the comprehensive perfectionism concept and to develop the Bi-mode Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale. The second purpose of this study was to formulate the conceptual model to test the different dimensions of perfectionism were distinctly related with particular types of subjective stress, coping style and psychophysical outcome variables. The third purpose of this study was based on the conceptual model to examine weather types of subjective stress and coping style could mediate or moderate the relation between perfectionism and stress adaptation. Finally, this study examined the predictive utility of demographic variables, perfectionism, and coping styles in accounting for variance in subjective stress, and also examined the predictive utility of demographic variables, perfectionism, coping style, and subjective stress by conducting stepwise multiple regression analysis. Methods: Four hundred undergraduate students from a private university in Taiwan were asked to complete a package questionnaire that included the Bi-mode Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale, the Adjustment Check List, the Coping Style Scale, the Proactive Coping Scale, the Zung’s Depression and Anxiety scale, the Positive Affect Scale, and Satisfaction With Life Scale. All subjects individually completed the measures in small group sessions. Item analysis and factor analysis were conducted to develop the Bi-mode Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale. To examine the conceptual model of this study, the Pearson product-moment correlation, a series of hierarchical multiple regression analysis and stepwise multiple regression analysis were conducted. Results: 1.The perfectionism construct was formulated and constituted bi-mode feature (i.e. adaptive and maladaptive perfectionism) and each mode included in three-dimension of perfectionism (i.e. self-oriented, socially prescribed, and other-oriented perfectionism), so in this study perfectionism could be divided into six categories. 2.Maladaptive perfectionism was significantly associated with maladaptive coping style and negative psychophysical outcome, but unassociated with adaptive coping style. Adaptive perfectionism was significantly associated with adaptive coping style, but unassociated with maladaptive coping style and negative psychophysical outcomes. 3.The bi-mode or the three-dimension perfectionism demonstrated different predictive utility when predicting particular types of subjective stress, coping style, and psychophysical outcome variables. So the six categories of perfectionism demonstrated in current validity on adaptive effect. 4.Subjective stress mediated the relation between maladaptive perfectionism and various psychophysical outcomes, and subjective stress moderated the relation between adaptive perfectionism and psychophysical outcome of depression or anxiety. 5.Coping styles could mediate and moderate the relation between maladaptive perfectionism and subjective stress, and coping styles just moderated the relation between adaptive perfectionism and subjective stress. 6. Coping styles could mediate the relation between maladaptive perfectionism and psychophysical outcomes, and also mediate the relation between adaptive perfectionism and psychophysical outcomes. 7. Results of stepwise multiple regression analysis indicated that the full regression model for predicting different types of subjective stress accounted for the variance between 6.3% and 42.2%, and the full regression model for predicting different psychophysical outcome variables accounted for the variance between 24.3% and 57.0%. Conclusions: These results expanded our knowledge of perfection personality. According to the conceptual model of present research, we realized the influence and the link from specific dimensions of perfectionism to particular types of subjective stress, coping style, and psychophysical outcome. And we offered suggestions about the clinical application in psychophysical stress assessment and treatment. In other word, based on the diathesis-stress model, we could consider the influence of perfectionism on stress and coping. Moreover, we discussed the influence of three-dimension maladaptive perfectionism on depression and anxiety when stress and coping being the mediator and moderator, and the influence of three-dimension adaptive perfectionism on psychophysical health when stress and coping being the mediator and moderator.

The purpose of this research was to explore the relationship among college students’ perfectionism, social interest and wellness. The research adapted the method of questionnaire, and the main research instruments used were the Perfectionism Scale, Social Interest Scale and Wellness Scale. The participants in this study included first-to- fourth grade college students in Chiayi City, Chiayi County, Tainan City and Tainan County in Taiwan. The formal samples collected are 635 effective questionnaires. The research data were analyzed by the general statistics to test the research hypothesis with t-test, variance analysis, Pearson correlation analysis and multiple stepwise regressive analysis. The main results were as follows: 1. The genders of subjects showed significant differences in self-oriented perfectionism, prescribed-oriented perfectionism, cooperation, cognitive-motion wellness, physical wellness and whole wellness. 2. The grades of subjects showed significant differences cognitive-motion wellness, and the second grade was better than the firth grade. 3. There were significant correlation among perfectionism and social interest and wellness. 4. Approximately 53.1% of the variance in college students’wellness was accounted for connection, self-oriented perfectionism, others-oriented perfectionism, contribution, respect and empathy. According to results, some suggestions for practioners and researches were recommended.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among socially prescribed perfectionism, stress and worry with a SEM analysis. We used the following instruments to assess examined variables: (a) Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (MPS; Frost Marten, Lahart, &; Rosenblate, 1990), (b) Irrational Beliefs Inventory (IBI; Bridges &; Sanderman, 2002) and (c) Perceived Stress Scale (PSS; Cohen &; Williamson, 1988). The results of our study suggested that higher socially prescribed perfectionism was associated with greater tendency of stress. Also, higher worry was associated with higher stress. The results of this study provided important management implications to understand the worry and to develop more effective ways to manage those employees with worry. We suggested that relevant professionals can use training program and work flexibility to help employees to lower their level of worry, in order to reduce the level of stress experienced by them.
