Resumen
In many species, the vagus has been reported to contain afferents that inhibit sympathetic tone. Vagal block (VB) increases blood pressure in both the intact and sinoaortic-denervated (SAD) dog. In the present study, VB was produced in intact and SAD monkeys by infiltrating the vagi with a local anesthetic. This was done in conjunction with blood volume expansion or head-out water immersion. The cardiovascular parameters monitored were heart rate (HR), blood pressure (BP), and left atrial pressure (LAP). VB decreased BP (-13 +/- 2.8 mmHg) in the control group and the SAD animals (-47 +/- 6.7 mmHg) without changing HR. Volume expansion decreased BP in the SAD animals (-6 +/- 3.4) but not in the intact monkeys (1.8 +/- 2.27), whereas HR did not change. Volume expansion after VB increased BP in both the SAD and the intact animals while producing a decrease in HR. Volume expansion caused LAP to increase in all groups (SAD 13.9 +/- 6.3; control VB 11.6 +/- 1.8, control 9.3 +/- 0.89, SAD VB 7.66 +/- 3.46). Immersion in the VB SAD animals increased BP to a greater extent than volume expansion. VB in the monkey must be removing input from peripheral receptors, which maintain sympathetic tone. Because immersion with VB increases BP more than volume expansion with VB, it is concluded that VB causes predominantly venous pooling. Because cardiopulmonary receptors generally inhibit sympathetic tone, it is concluded that those receptors responsible for the observed hypotension are located in the venous system, probably in the chest or the abdominal cavity.

An auditory illusion was demonstrated in which there was perceptual shortening of the temporal interval contiguous to a low frequency (large) tone and/or perceptual lengthening of the temporal interval contiguous to a high frequency (small) tone. This auditory analogy to the Baldwin figure was demonstrated after first determining that there was a symmetrical expansion of perceived time during the auditory filled-duration illusion.

Resumen
The development of high dynamic range (HDR) display arouses the research of inverse tone mapping methods, which expand dynamic range of the low dynamic range (LDR) image to match that of HDR monitor. This paper proposed a novel physiological approach, which could avoid artifacts occurred in most existing algorithms. Inspired by the property of the human visual system (HVS), this dynamic range expansion scheme performs with a low computational complexity and a limited number of parameters and obtains high-quality HDR results. Comparisons with three recent algorithms in the literature also show that the proposed method reveals more important image details and produces less contrast loss and distortion.

Resumen
The present study examined the factors responsible for triggering renal hemodynamic adjustments during acute volume expansion. The renal hemodynamic effects of graded volume expansion with 0.9% saline (Sal; 1, 2, and 4% of body wt), 7% BSA solution (0.35, 0.70, and 1.4% body wt), or whole blood from a donor rat (WBL; 0.35, 0.70, and 1.4% body wt) were compared in rats anesthetized with pentobarbital sodium. Neural influences on the kidney were eliminated by vagus nerves, baro/chemoreceptor afferents, and renal nerves section, and renal perfusion pressure was controlled at constant level (∼120 mmHg) throughout the experiments. In Sal- and BSA-expanded rats, renal blood flow (RBF) increased (Sal: 15, 40, 71%; BSA 17, 49, 107%) and renal vascular resistance (RVR) decreased in parallel with the degree of volume expansion (RVR: Sal 17, 31, 44%; and BSA: 15, 35, 54%). Renal hemodynamics remained unaltered after expansion with WBL. In rats expanded with Sal or BSA, correction of the fall of hematocrit restored RBF and RVR to control levels. Interference with tubuloglomerular feedback by uretheral obstruction had no effect on the decrease in RVR with Sal or BSA. Inhibition of the vascular tone by intrarenal papaverine infusion also did not alter the renal hemodynamic response to volume expansion with Sal or BSA. These findings suggest that the changes in renal hemodynamics after acute expansion are likely mediated by changes in rheologic properties of the blood rather than by changes in active vascular tone.

From the initial release of the CD in 1982, artists have tampered with the system to test it, compose with it and sample from it. The author examines the use of the cracked and manipulated CD in the work of Yasunao Tone, Nicolas Collins and Oval in relation to their differing approaches and the role of the CD in sound expansion. Tone and Collins are interested in indeterminacy and the benevolent catastrophe in composition, while Oval's process has more in common with pop production and studio practices.

Toning is the creative power within the voice...a feeling of fulfillment within self; in other words, we have a voice-we have power that comes through this voice-and when its power is released, we experience a feeling of expansion and well-being. So, it isn't just a tone, it's what's within the tone. And our body is, in a sense, an instrument that allows the voice to amplify-to release itself-and whatever is deep within Self can then move to the surface and out.

Resumen
1. Using venous occlusion plethysmography, we have investigated the forearm blood flow response in healthy subjects to the acute plasma volume expansion caused by a rapid intravenous infusion of saline. The contribution made to this response by nitric oxide has been investigated using local intra-arterial infusions of the nitric oxide synthase inhibitor NG-monomethyl-l-arginine. 2. The infusion of 1000 ml of saline over 25 min caused plasma volume to increase by about 7%, and resulted in a rise in forearm blood flow, with no change in arterial blood pressure. The onset of the blood flow response occurred within 10 min and blood flow remained elevated above baseline 20 mm after the end of the saline infusion. 3. Local intra-arterial infusion of NG-monomethyl-l-arginine alone caused a reduction in forearm blood flow which was maximal at the end of the infusion and gradually recovered to baseline levels over 40 min. 4. When local intra-arterial infusion of NG-monomethyl-l-arginine was followed by plasma volume expansion, the calculated effect of NG-monomethyl-l-arginine was such as to abolish the vasodilator response to saline. 5. The effect of local intra-arterial infusion of NG-monomethyl-l-arginine on forearm blood flow was greater when the drug was given after volume expansion had occurred, than when it was given before the administration of saline. However, in control experiments the vasoconstrictor response to noradrenaline was also enhanced after the administration of the volume load in comparison with the response to noradrenaline given alone. 6. These results are consistent with the possibility that increased local synthesis of nitric oxide contributes to the vasodilator response to volume expansion.

Resumen
As wireless communication becomes an ever-more important and pervasive part of our everyday life, system capacity and quality of service issues are becoming more critical. In order to increase the system capacity and improve the quality of service, it is necessary that we pay closer attention to bandwidth and power efficiency issues. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is a multicarrier modulation technique for high speed data transmission and is generally regarded as bandwidth efficient. However, OFDM signals suffer from high peak-to-average power ratios (PARs) which lead to power inefficiency in the RF portion of the transmitter. Moreover, in OFDM, the well-known pilot tone assisted modulation (PTAM) technique utilizes a number of dedicated training pilots to acquire the channel state information (CSI), resulting in somewhat reduced bandwidth efficiency. In this dissertation, we will address the above mentioned bandwidth and power efficiency issues in wireless transmissions. To avoid bandwidth efficiency loss due to dedicated training, we will first develop a superimposed training framework that can be used to track the frequency selective as well as the Doppler shift characteristics of a channel. Later on, we will propose a generalized superimposed training framework that allows improved channel estimates. To improve the power efficiency, we adopt the selected mapping (SLM) framework to reduce the PARs for both OFDM and forward link Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA). We first propose a dynamic SLM algorithm to greatly reduce the computational requirement of SLM without sacrificing its PAR reducing capability. We propose a number of blind SLM techniques for OFDM and for forward link CDMA; they require no side information and are easy to implement. Our proposed blind SLM technique for OFDM is a novel joint channel estimation and PAR reduction algorithm, for which bandwidth efficiency power efficiency - complexity - bit error rate tradeoffs are carefully considered.

Resumen

A paper that shows motion when being exposed to heat has in this study been called a paper muscle. A paper muscle can be used for many different applications, e.g. smart advertisement or indicators in printed paper products. The muscles created in the present work were prepared by gluing or printing a polymer layer onto paper. The polymer layers consisted of MELINEX, MYLAR or toner, which are known to expand when exposed to heat. Furthermore, all three material systems showed bending when exposed to heat.

A mechanical bilayer model was implemented and used to quantitatively study the parameters that influence the bending of the muscles. The model indicated that the dimensional changes of the polymer layers relative to that of the copy paper was found to be approximately 0,1-0,5 % within the temperature range 23-60 °C. The experiments showed that the combined dimensional changes within the polymer and paper layers were not linear with respect to temperature, and that there was a significant difference in bending for muscles cut in the MD and in the CD. Also, when assuming that the polymer is the active component, the observed coefficient of thermal expansion was a factor ~10 greater compared to published literature data. These findings led to the conclusion that it was indeed the dimensional changes within the paper that were the dominant cause of the bending. This was confirmed by a muscle, comprising a bilayer of paper cut in the MD and the CD, which bended when exposed to heat. The results also indicate that a large part of the bending could be attributed to the hygrocontraction of paper.

Texto completo
Resumen
<p>Bridge superstructures have to be designed to permit thermal and live load strains to occur without unintended restraints. Bridge bearings have to transfer forces from the superstructure to the substructure, allowing all movements in directions defined by the designer. The two functions -transfer the loads and allow movements only in the required directions for a long service time with little maintenance - are not so easy to fulfil. Different bearings for different purposes and requirements have been developed so, that the bridge designer can choose the most suitable bearing.</p> <p>By the movement of a bridge, gaps are necessary between superstructure and substructure. Expansion joints fill the gaps, allowing traffic loads tobe carried and allowing all expected displacements with low resistance. Expansion joints should provide a smooth transition, avoid noise emission as far as possible and withstand all mechanical actions and chemical attacks (de-icing) for a long time. A simple exchange of all wearing parts and of the entire expansion joint should be possible.</p> <p>The present volume provides a comprehensive survey of arrangement, construction and installation of bearings and expansion joints for bridges including calculation of bearing reactions and movements, analysis and design, inspection and maintenance. A long list of references deals with the subjects but also with aspects in the vicinity of bearings and expansion joints.</p> <p>This book is aimed at both students and practising engineers, working in the field of bridge design, construction, analysis, inspection, maintenance and repair.</p>

Resumen
James Tenney focuses on the “reconciliation” of two musical worlds: formal and aesthetic ideas inspired by John Cage, and harmonic possibilities suggested by Harry Partch. Using the computer as a compositional partner, Tenney examines notions of intentionality (the Cagean part) and the formative gestalt ideas of Meta + Hodos. He correlates new developments in harmony with the design of new tuning systems and considers one of the new directions taken by some composers after 1910 involving the expansion of the pitch resources beyond a tuning system tempered by twelve-tone music. He argues that such expansions did not—and could not—solve the problem that had arisen with the “exhaustion” of tonality. According to Tenney, the real problem with the 12-set is not the relatively small number of pitches it makes available, but the fact that a very large tolerance range has to be assumed even for it to be regarded as a “fair approximation” of the basic intervals of the 5-limit—and even greater ranges are involved with those of the 7- and 11-limits.

Resumen
The view put forward in this chapter about slur terms is that their interpretations require expansive, open-ended engagement with an utterance and its linguistic meaning, through a host of distinctive kinds of reasoning. This reasoning may include inferences about the speaker’s psychology and her intentions—in light of the full social and historical context—but it may involve approaching the utterance through strategies for imaginative elaboration and emotional attunement, as required, for example, for metaphor, poetic diction, irony, sarcasm, and humor. In the face of their heterogeneity and open-endedness, these interpretive strategies are most perspicuously elucidated through critical attention to the psychological, social, historical, and even artistic considerations at play in specific cases. Thus, in contrast to the common practice in philosophy and linguistics, this chapter will not offer a general account of the interpretation of slur terms. It puts forward that there can be no such thing.

Resumen
Significant innovation brought by the Civil Procedure Code of 2015, the collegiate expansion technique replaced the outdated appeal of infringing embargoes, and started to apply to ex officio non-unanimous second instance collegiate decisions. Naturally, since this is an unprecedent mechanism in Brazilian procedural law, polemics about it didn’t take long do appear in court. In this scenario, the present work deals with the most relevant issues – pertinent to the legislator's purpose in creating the technique and to its normative panorama –, which have provoked instigating debates in the legal literature and in the courts. In this tone, a sensitive issue was highlighted, capable of directly interfering in the new nuances of the CPC/2015 appeal system, regarding the limits of cognition of the expanded collegiate. That’s to say, can the judges who arrive to expand the collegiate review the initially unanimous questions, or should they restrict their votes to the issues that had been the subject of dissent? Based on bibliographic research, without neglecting the jurisprudence and the critical examination of the positioning of Courts, notably the Superior Court of Justice, the work proposes reflections on the controversial theme pertinent to the procedural technique of the expanded collegiate trial, evaluating, in the perspective of to have been an advance or a setback, as well as facing the controversial theme of the cognitive limits of the trial in the expanded quorum.

Resumen
Well before the success of Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton, female artists were integral to the commercial expansion and aural reception of country music. Women in early country music took on and redefined the theatrical and musical roles of the hillbilly maiden, the unruly Okie, the singing cowgirl, and the honky-tonk angel in live performance, on radio, in film, and in the recording studio. This book accounts for the vibrant presence of female country artists through an interdisciplinary focus on performance and vocal expression in relation to the cultural currents of the 1930s and 1950s. Across a variety of media, women’s country music engendered new ways of making sense of public and private spaces (such as the home, the dance hall, and the honky-tonk) that were integral to the real and imagined lives of working-class women striving for upward social mobility and/or resisting the rigidity of middle-class codes of behavior. Connecting the female singing voice to the theatrics of the popular stage and to the musical practices of specific country styles, this study shows how women in country music wielded a range of performative devices in order to work within and against social and commercial expectations.

Resumen
This chapter explores how the modernist fiction of Katherine Anne Porter and Ernest Hemingway articulated a link between good writing and expansive personal experience, especially in their works set in Latin America. I begin by reconstructing their development of the literature of experience during the 1920s as an internationalist mode of expanding their knowledge of the world. My second section tracks how, amid the rise of the literary left and Popular Front aesthetics in the 1930s, Hemingway’s To Have and Have Not (1937) and Porter’s “Hacienda” (1937) warned against producing literature derived from ideological positioning as opposed to first-hand eyewitnessing. I close by demonstrating the surprising interest in authorial experience among New Critics such as Robert Penn Warren and Cleanth Brooks, who “disciplined” the literature of experience by re-envisioning place-based absorption as a matter of formal style, thus setting the tone for debates about authorial experience in the early post-1945 period.

Resumen
The post–World War II era saw an explosion in ballet class as more young people than ever engaged in extracurricular activities. George Balanchine, founder of the School of American Ballet (1934) and the New York City Ballet (1948), exerted an outsize impact on the expansion of ballet in the United States, training teachers and investigating ballet class across the country. The Ford Foundation grants of 1963 cemented Balanchine’s centrality to American ballet by providing extraordinary funding to a number of ballet schools and companies within his orbit. These grants, while opposed by some cultural critics and members of the modern dance community, raised the standard of ballet class in America and also set the tone for the dance boom of the 1960s and 1970s. During the dance boom the number of ballet studios and companies grew sharply, capitalizing on great public interest in dance classes and performances.

This chapter explores the expansion of Internet access in Brazil since 2011 and analyzes three critically acclaimed web series: Septo (Septum, YouTube), Marcos: Uma websérie quase original (Marcos: An Almost Original Web series, Instagram and YouTube), and 3% (YouTube and Netflix). The former two were made exclusively for Internet distribution and are the products of recently formed production companies in cities far from the Rio–São Paulo axis of production: Natal and Caxias do Sul. While they differ in genre, tone, length, and themes, both Septo and Marcos stand out for representing regions of Brazil not often portrayed on the small screen during the period leading up to 2011. For its part, 3% eschews regional and national differences, focusing instead on a post-apocalyptic world. Unlike Septo and Marcos, both of which emerged within the context of the new Brazilian mediascape, the production of 3% spans the pre- and post-2011 mediascapes.

This chapter looks at more recent developments and the present state of Advanced Placement (AP). Advanced Placement's recent decades are notable for the program's stunning growth on multiple dimensions. Many more schools, students, and subjects joined in, and they did so at accelerating rates. At least five factors have fueled the AP program's expansion in recent years. First, the use of AP participation to rate and rank high schools has impelled more of them to increase their student numbers so as to boost their standings. Second, schools and districts were induced to add more AP courses because they wanted to challenge their students intellectually, tone up their curricula, hold on to their best teachers, attract and retain more middle-class families, draw more sophisticated employers to the area, and respond to demands from parents of gifted kids. Third, the country's mounting concern about equalizing opportunity for poor and minority youngsters and getting more of them into and through college inevitably drew greater attention to AP's potential contribution. Fourth, stiffening competition to enter top colleges and more scrambling by kids to advantage themselves in the admissions process also continued to pump air into the AP balloon. The fifth factor is the forceful marketing and lobbying activities of the College Board itself. As AP has expanded, it has done so unevenly, however, giving rise to multiple issues of fairness. The chapter then considers these inequalities.

The rapid expansion of whaling in the decade before the First World War occurred because, after a century in which whale oil had been gradually ousted from its traditional uses, modern science gave it a new lease of life. Whale oil creased to be an elementary product, fit only for burning and other lowly uses, and became, under the influence of chemical technology, a multi-purpose raw material for modern industry. As a consequence whaling was faced with quite unprecedented demands for oil (output, for instance, rose from 47,387 tons in 1909/1910 to 134,000 in 1913/1914)...

Resumen
Municipal solid waste from Lee County and Hendry County is processed at the Lee County Solid Waste Resource Recovery Facility (the “Facility”). Lee County (the “County”) owns the Facility, which began commercial operation in December 1994. The Facility’s current permitted capacity is 1,320 tons per day (tpd), provided by two 660-tpd boiler units, at a reference waste of 5,000 Btu. Covanta Energy of Lee, Inc. operates and maintains the Facility under the terms of a Service Agreement with the County that runs through 2014. Covanta also designed and constructed the Facility. The expansion of this Facility will be the first new construction of a municipal waste combustion (MWC) unit since the New Source Performance Standards were adopted. Despite the County’s comprehensive recycling program, the amount of solid waste the County delivers to the Facility has increased each year since the Facility began operation, primarily due to population growth. In 1999, this amount reached the Facility’s guaranteed annual capacity of 372,300 tons. In 2000, the Facility processed over 392,000 tons of municipal solid waste, while the County landfilled nearly 44,000 additional tons of processible waste. Current population projections for Lee and Hendry Counties suggest that processible solid waste generation will continue to increase, reaching nearly 550,000 tons by 2010. Rather than landfilling processible waste generated in excess of the Facility’s current capacity, it is the County’s intention to expand the Facility by adding a third 660-tpd boiler unit which would increase the Facility’s permitted capacity to 1,980-tpd. The original application for the Facility’s Power Plant Site Certification anticipated such an expansion, including provisions for a third 660-tpd MWC unit. Certain provisions for this third unit were incorporated into the Facility’s design and construction as well. These included providing the physical space for the third unit, the physical space for an additional flue for the third unit, and sizing the tipping floor, refuse pit, and certain common equipment for three units. The expansion will require a second turbine-generator unit and expanded switchyard, an extension to the existing turbine-generator building, as well as the addition of a third boiler unit and air pollution control equipment. The expansion will also require modifications to certain equipment and systems common to all boiler units in order to meet the additional capacity requirements of the expanded Facility. As of February 2003, the County is waiting for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to issue a draft PSD Air Permit and is on scheduled to go before the Power Plant Siting Board in September 2003.

Resumen
The EPA defines a small municipal waste combustor (MWC) Class II facility as having an aggregate plant capacity of 250 tons per day (TPD) or less. Some commercial Waste-to-Energy (WTE) operators consider that there is an economy of scale required that is much greater. So what about small facilities? Can public entities or private companies make the economics work? This paper will offer a status of existing small facilities, available combustion technologies and identify known planned expansions or new facilities. The paper will feature one such facility with an interesting past and a bright future including plans for expansion: the Perham Resource Recovery Facility in Perham, Minnesota. This cogeneration facility plans to increase its capacity from 112 TPD to 200 TPD along with adding upfront processing to improve fuel quality.

Resumen
The City and County of Honolulu on the Island of Oahu in the Hawaiian chain has been taking steps to reduce the need for landfilling and to continue to be self-sufficient for waste disposal. For an island, having the capacity to process all of its waste is crucial and producing power helps reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels. The City and County relies upon its waste-to-energy facility to manage the waste stream. The existing H-POWER Waste-to-Energy (WTE) Facility, which has been in operation for about twenty years, is a 2,000 ton-per-day (tpd) refuse derived fuel (RDF) two-unit plant with a single condensing steam turbine generator. Recent actions to enhance and expand the H-POWER Facility have been undertaken to ensure the needs to the island will be met for the foreseeable future. Enhancements and an expansion of the existing H-POWER Facility have begun and are well into construction. The enhancements will improve environmental performance and reliability and the expansion will add nearly fifty percent to the facility capacity. When complete, the expanded facility will have a number of unique features that will improve its ability to manage more types of municipal solid waste. The facility expansion will utilize mass burn technology in a single 900 tpd combustion unit with an associated turbine generator. The expansion unit will feature fabric filters for particulate control and state-of-the-art Covanta Very Low NOx (VLN™) technology intended to reduce NOx emissions well below that achieved with conventional selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) used at many other WTE plants in the USA. Independent of the expansion, the existing facility has been retrofitted with new fabric filters and induced-draft fans, which offer greater particulate and heavy metal control and improve control of other emissions. The existing facility is also getting much-needed improvements to boost reliability for many years to come. When the expansion comes on line, the facility will reliably generate about 7 percent of the island’s electrical power as opposed to 5 percent from the current 2,000 tpd of waste processed. This paper explores progress to date on the revitalization of the H-POWER Facility and its expansion.

Resumen
The most common problems affecting residential and light commercial heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems are slow refrigerant leaks. Equipment users are usually not aware of the problem until most of the refrigerant has escaped. A low-cost, non-intrusive refrigerant charge indicator has been developed, based on temperature measurements and correlations formed to interpret the measured temperatures. It can be used to provide real time warnings to the equipment users before the majority of refrigerant is escaped. It could be inexpensive and easy to incorporate into existing heat pumps and air conditioners. Extensive laboratory experimental work was performed on a 2-ton window air conditioner and on a 2.5 ton split heat pump system. It was found that the heat pump was not sensitive to slow refrigerant leak because of the long liquid line. Liquid subcooling was measured to determine the system charge status before a substantial amount of refrigerant was leaked. This study reports the finding of correlations formed for liquid subcooling for the orifice plate and thermal expansion valve used on the heat pump system for both heating and cooling mode operation.

Resumen
Created in 1978, the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County (Authority) has developed an “award winning” solid waste management system that includes franchised solid waste collections and the following facilities to service the residents and businesses in Palm Beach County, Florida: • North County Resource Recovery Facility (NCRRF); • Residential and Commercial Recovered Materials Processing Facility; • Five Transfer Stations; • Class I Landfill; • Class III Landfill; • Biosolids Pelletization Facility; • Ferrous Processing Facility; • Woody Waste Recycling Facility; • Composting Facility; and • Household Hazardous Waste Facility. The Authority has proactively planned and implemented its current integrated solid waste management program to ensure disposal capacity through 2021. However, even in consideration of the current economic climate, the Authority anticipates continued population growth and associated new development patterns that will significantly increase demands on its solid waste system, requiring it to reevaluate and update its planning to accommodate future growth. The NCRRF, the Authority’s refuse derived fuel waste-to-energy facility, has performed very well since its start up in 1989 processing over 13 million tons of MSW, saving valuable landfill space and efficiently producing clean renewable energy. As the NCRRF has reached the end of its first 20 year operating term, it became necessary to complete a comprehensive refurbishment to ensure its continued reliable service for a second 20 year term and beyond providing for continued disposal capacity and energy production for the Authority’s customers. Separately, the Authority also recognized that the refurbishment alone will not provide any additional disposal capacity for the County. The County’s anticipated growth necessitated that the Authority evaluate several options for long-term processing and disposal capacity, resulting in a decision to expand its WTE capacity with a new mass burn facility, the first facility of its kind to be constructed in Florida in more than a decade, reaffirming its commitment to waste-to-energy. The planned 3,000 TPD expansion will provide a total disposal capacity of 5,000 TPD generating approximately 150MW of renewable energy. The decision to proceed with the expansion was approved by the Authority’s Board in October 2008. The Authority, with its Consulting Engineer, Malcolm Pirnie, Inc., has since made significant progress in the facility’s implementation including the completion of the preliminary design, submittal of environmental permit applications, ongoing procurement of a full service vendor, issuance of revenue bonds for project financing, and commencing extensive public outreach. This paper will focus on the development of the new mass burn facility and an update of the status of activities conducted to date including, permitting, financing, vendor procurement, design, and public outreach, as well as will highlight several innovative design, procurement, permitting, and financing features of this landmark project for the Authority, such as: • Utilization of SCR technology for control of NOx emission; • Incorporation of rainwater harvesting and water reuse; • Utilization of iterative procurement process designed to obtain vendor input in a competitive environment; and • Financing approach designed to preserve alternative minimum tax benefits.

Resumen
This paper presents a LNG Liquefaction cycle configuration using two stages of methane expansion and a single stage of nitrogen expansion (Dual Refrigerant) to improve the efficiency of the conventional methane and nitrogen refrigerant expansion cycle (Niche Cycle). The chosen configuration further optimizes the composite cooling and heating curve of the liquefaction cycle, resulting in a higher thermodynamic efficiency. The production efficiency of the liquefaction cycle can be improved by reducing the interval between the cooling curve of the natural gas and the warming curve of the refrigerant: the closer both curves are, the better the efficiency of the cycle. This optimization is achieved by adjusting the refrigerant operating temperatures and pressures. The advanced dual refrigerant expansion cycle includes three levels of expansion, each having different temperature and pressure levels. In the methane expansion loop there are two stages, which are classified warm and cold. The warm loop is applied in the pre-cooling zone and the cold loop is responsible for the main liquefaction. The nitrogen loop is a single stage and is used for sub-cooling. This configuration allows the methane and nitrogen warming curve to closely match the cooling curve of the natural gas cooling curve by changing the methane and nitrogen warming curve from two straight lines into multiple intersecting straight lines of different gradient. That is to say, the additional new methane expander generates an added inflection point within the cold composite curve. As a result, thermodynamic inefficiencies are minimized and the power requirements are reduced when compared to Niche Cycle. In comparison with other previous expansion cycles, the cycle efficiency has increased approximately from 13.13 to 12.08 kW/ton/day (8% efficiency increase) assuming similar feed gas (methane: 80%, MW: 21.38). The composition of this feed gas is representative for associated gas or pipe line gas which is preliminary treated to remove bulk water and hydrocarbon condensate. A case study is presented for an open sea associated gas FLNG concept, comparing three kinds of liquefaction processes (Double Nitrogen Expansion Cycle, Methane & Nitrogen Expansion Cycle and Developed Dual Refrigerant Expansion Cycle). A Life Cycle Cost (LCC) analysis based on Net Positive Value (NPV) also shows an improvement in terms of project NPV, against a minor increment of the CAPEX of these cycles.

Resumen
Abstract The unconventional reservoir in Mahu Basin in Xinjiang Oilfield has more than one billion tons of oil and gas resources, and it is the first effectively developed glutenite reservoir in China. In the development of this basin, we faced with the following problems: complex lithology (glutenite reservoir), large reservoir depth (3750-3900m), low permeability (average porosity 9.8%, permeability 5.4mD), thickness variation (3.4-23m), multiple thin layers distribution (3-5 thin layer distribution) and high-pressure coefficient (1.6-1.8). This kind of reservoirs have no economical production without hydraulic fracturing, while the stimulation operation still faced with difficulties such as un-predicate fracture propagation, high cost and multi-layers. In order to solve the above problems, we investigated the economic stimulation of glutenite formation: (1) 30cm×30cm×5cm rock sample experiments revealed fracture initiation and expansion regulation including piercing gravel, bypass gravel and stop expansion; (2) A low concentration fracturing fluid system was developed, guar concentration reduced from 0.40% to 0.25%. Viscosity of this kind fracturing fluid can maintain 100mPa.s under condition of 90°C and 170S-1 after 120min. By using this fracturing fluid, operation cost can be reduced by 5.8$/m3, residue can be reduced by 10%. (3) Optimize the p'n'p technology of staged fracturing for horizontal wells, establish an effective fluids pump process, that is, pre-gel to initial fractures, followed slickwater to extend fractures then followed gel to carry sands. (4) A soluble plug and multi-stage cementing sleeve was formed after the investigation of fracturing completion tools. (5) Replacement of ceramsite by low-cost quartz sand, reduced 31 million US dollars in 72 horizontal wells. (6) A factory-fracturing model has formed in which operating time can be reduced by 20%. The above integrated technology has been applied in more than 135 wells, the daily oil production per well has increased from 5t/day to 26.7t/day and now the basin has a capacity of 2.32 million tons. Application of the integrated technology can be references for efficiency development of low permeability glutenite reservoirs.
