Gastronomic activities like tasting of local cuisines, visiting of apple orchards, tea gardens, fruit marts, and attending cookery classes have always been an integral part of tour itinerary in Himachal Pradesh. Tourists rejoice it as a means of entertainment as well as cultural learning. The growing trend of gastronomy tourism and development of specific tourism policy under the theme of ‘Agro/Organic Tourism' is certainly going to increase the demand for ‘gastronomic tour guides' in coming years. Hence the present research tries to analyse the tour guides' perception about Gastronomy Tourism in Himachal Pradesh, their background knowledge, and opinion about the branding of Himachali Cuisine. Responses from 120 tour guides were collected through a survey instrument via convenience sampling. The analysis depicts the requirement of specialized food guide training programs, attracting young and women tour guides into the profession and emphasis on branding of Himachali Cuisine through listing of ethnic restaurants, preparation of gastronomic map, and organisation of culinary tours and events.

The importance of tea tourism in India is immense as it has a dual impact by creating a regional tea market and securing jobs for tea labor. Therefore, proper guidance for the tea tourists is essential regarding the tea tourism destinations by addressing the issues, challenges, and opportunities in promoting local culture. Through the public-private partnership, tea tourism should be included in the mainstream tour packages, and local tea customs can be conveyed through a variety of activities promoting sightseeing and other forms of entertainment and tourism experiences. A proper planning is required for making tea tourism more attractive and developed in India. Development of tea tourism sustaining the environment and preserving the heritage and culture will benefit the Indian regions by creating employment opportunities and boosting the rural economy and thereby alleviate the insurgency and other socio-economic problems. It is expected to contribute to the literature on tourist guiding and the promotion of tea tourism and the tourist guides within tea garden boundaries in India.

For the bandleader, these activities include the investment in reliable transportation, musical instruments, and powerful sound systems, and negotiations with local baile organizers. For the entire band, the demands of performance necessitate constant travel over considerable distances and playing through the night for the better part of a week, all while balancing personal life and maintaining cordial relationships with bandmates, the bandleader, and fans. Moving from a detailed description of a weekly tour to the intricate inner workings of a Panamanian baile, it is here that the author shows how the work involved in performing música típica also projects the band’s image as a group of either committed traditionalists or daring innovators at the same time that it reinforces the music’s enduring association with the country’s interior heartland.

English has not only become a lingua franca for global communication, but it also carries a symbolic power that influences local people and stakeholders in community-based tourism (CBT) in Thailand. Thai villagers encounter communicative challenges due to their limited English proficiency. Thai-English speaking tour guides are valued, as they provide translation services on behalf of CBT members whose interactions with foreign tourists are minimal and marginalized. Losses in translation regarding local wisdom and heritage are inevitably unavoidable. This chapter addresses a conceptual model of crowdsourcing translation for CBT. The study hopes that the sociolinguistic and cultural gaps can be bridged for the enhancement of other CBT communities. Crowdsourcing in the form of collaborative translation and volunteering translators' efforts can potentially provide an alternative lens for possible translation scenarios. Tourism operators and stakeholders can apply these practices to assist the local people to promote lesser-known tourist attractions in remote areas in Thailand.

In this chapter, the authors demonstrate how a university Art Education program assists the university art museum and trains students to lead tours for BRAINY (BRinging Arts INtegration to Youth), the museum's educational program for Title I schools. The authors present how they guide student educators to develop tours for BRAINY by applying different interpretive strategies. The impacts that BRAINY creates for the visiting students and local communities include 1) the enhancement of civic engagement for young citizens, 2) high-quality art experiences for Title I schools, 3) the extended community program—Family Day. The impacts on student art educators are 1) knowing how to teach art in different learning contexts that are outside of the classroom, 2) applying the questioning strategies to their classroom teaching for probing art dialogues with students, 3) learning to be prepared but also flexible for unexpected situations. This chapter provides a practical and positive example to address a wonderful collaboration between an art museum, community members, and higher education.

About ten miles north of where I live in northern Colorado, a smokestack rises 500 feet in the air alongside a stair-step series of buildings. On a summer day, nothing appears to be coming from the smokestack, as though it is a ghostly relic; in the winter, a white plume rises. On closer approach, a lake teeming with ducks, geese, pelicans, and other waterfowl sits in the foreground. A herd of American bison roam on over 4,000 acres of grasslands surrounding the smokestack. This apparently benign plant called Rawhide Energy Station is actually a 280 MWe coal-fired power plant that provides about one-quarter of the electricity for four nearby communities—Fort Collins, Loveland, Longmont, and Estes Park. It is a public utility owned by the four communities and is near state-of-the-art for a coal-fired power plant, being one of the most efficient in the western United States and among the top ten in lowest emissions. I drove up to the Rawhide Energy Station and called on an intercom box to the security station to identify myself so the guard could open the security gate for me to enter. After driving across the edge of the lake, the armed guard then directed me to the visitor center. I met Jon Little, the knowledgeable and friendly tour guide, and a group of bicyclists from a local environmentally conscious brewery who were taking the tour also. We put on headphones with a radio set and a hard hat for the tour. The first and largest building houses the boiler and the generators. Th e coal arrives by train in five- to six-inch lumps, which are broken down into one-inch lumps before being fed by conveyor to grinders that convert it into a powder finer than facial powder. This powder is then mixed with air and blown into the 16-story. boiler from four directions, where it burns efficiently at a hellish temperature of 2,800˚F.
