The decade of 1990's was a time of great development of tourism in Ecuador – during this period tourism has become a key part of the economy. Following this, the Ministry of Tourism was created in 1992. The most important is a very big influx of foreigner tourists - in 1996 Ecuador was visited by half a million tourists. This great number was the result of varied attractions being available, from beach resorts to natural parks and countryside.
