Resumen
Most ecotourism studies in the past have examined tourist perceptions on tour guides’ performance. However, there has been little research investigating ecotourism in relation to the practices of guided tours. This paper, therefore, aims to examine tourist perceptions of different guided ecotourism tours and their contribution to sustainability. Data were collected from three companies with six guided tours through tour observation, interviews and surveys in the southern region of Thailand. For the survey, data were collected from 183 voluntary respondents who joined the guided tours. Content

Research background: The rise of innovative (alternative) guided tours around the world and especially in Europe embody the idea of ‘glocalization’, since these tours and associated new business models (comprising both ‘free’ and paid offers) represent a global phenomenon that utilizes ‘localness’ as a major asset. Therefore, glocalization strategies of the tour providing companies are worth studying and so are the current transformations in their business models. Resumen
Gastronomic activities like tasting of local cuisines, visiting of apple orchards, tea gardens, fruit marts, and attending cookery classes have always been an integral part of tour itinerary in Himachal Pradesh. Tourists rejoice it as a means of entertainment as well as cultural learning. The growing trend of gastronomy tourism and development of specific tourism policy under the theme of ‘Agro/Organic Tourism' is certainly going to increase the demand for ‘gastronomic tour guides' in coming years. Hence the present research tries to analyse the tour guides' perception about Gastronomy Tourism in Himachal Pradesh, their background knowledge, and opinion about the branding of Himachali Cuisine. Responses from 120 tour guides were collected through a survey instrument via convenience sampling. The analysis depicts the requirement of specialized food guide training programs, attracting young and women tour guides into the profession and emphasis on branding of Himachali Cuisine through listing of ethnic restaurants, preparation of gastronomic map, and organisation of culinary tours and events.

Resumen
Established in 1789 as the 12th state, North Carolina lies in the eastern seaboard of the United States of America between the Appalachian mountain range and the Atlantic Ocean. It is ranked 28th with respect to its size (139,389 square kilometers) and is the 10th most populated state with 9.1 million residents as of 2007 (US Census Bureau, 2008). The state was known for its farming/tobacco, textile and furniture industries, but substantial transformation has taken place over the past few decades and now the service industry, led by tourism, is the major part of the state’s economy (Gade, 2008). North Carolina has a unique and rich natural heritage which includes geological, landscape and biological resources that span three physiographic regions: the Appalachian Mountains, the Piedmont Plateau and the Coastal Plain (Horton et al., 1991; Stewart and Roberson, 2007). This natural heritage forms an integral part of the network of attractions enticing local, out-of-state and international tourists, who spent over $17 billion in the state and generated almost 200,000 jobs in 2007 (TIA, 2008). Indeed, North Carolina’s tourism promotional material (e.g., travel guides, brochures, websites) routinely highlight physical landscapes such as the Great Smoky Mountains, peaks like Pilot Mountain and geomorphic features such as waterfalls. Many of these geological features and attractions can be found in North Carolina’s state park (NCSP) system, which received over 12.8 million visitors in 2007– 2008 (Leung et al., 2009), with an estimated annual economic impact of $289 million to local economies (NCDPR, 2009). Landform-dependent recreation opportunities draw tourists to the state as well, with skiers enjoying the mountains and kitesurfers flocking to sandy beaches at the Outer Banks. In addition, mineral hunting has become a popular tourist activity with several independent contractors offering mine tours, cave tours and gemstone mining.

Resumen
This chapter examines the role of student guides as mediators between the institutional mission and heritage of their university and visitors to the historic campus. Drawing on a longitudinal study undertaken at two historic universities in the west, the authors establish that a small cadre of elite, competitively-chosen guides at these institutions perform a role of openness and democracy on behalf of the increasingly complex and hybrid modern university. The chapter considers how student guides are able to navigate their own pride at such privileged engagement and how this privilege impacts on tours offered to visitors, where campus tours become a negotiation based on internal and external influences and are constructed and reconstructed according to the imagined or actual demands of different tour groups. By managing risk at the point of employment, and by encouraging free reign in tours, there is limited risk involved to host universities as student guides offer an informed, personalised heritage experience to both domestic and international tourists.

Technology has penetrated every aspect of life and it proceeds with the aim of facilitating people's lives. Geographical information systems as a part of the developing technology provide services in every area with different forms. One of these areas is museology. The desire to make visual and written information and cultural heritage that are presented by museums with auditory and interactive experiences has brought together digital technologies and cultural and historical activities. From this point of view, the “Müze Asist” is a remarkable application in terms of the fact that it is a local app and in use in most of the museums in Turkey and the convenience provided for all tourists who want to visit a museum, especially for those who prefer self-guided tours. Sport tourism can be viewed as the amalgam of specific sporting activities, being undertaken by people in various forms of competitive interplay or other interaction, that occur in the places where might be instrumental to the sport and/or tourist experience. It is one of the fastest growing market segments in tourism and travel industry and is receiving increased attention for its social, environmental, and economic effects on destinations. It is estimated that there will be a larger market potential than ever for sport-related tours and tourism. On the other hand, it is well known that tour guides are tourism professionals that lead their guests through the many parts of any destination and they are responsible for planning, organizing, and execution of the tours as a very critical component of the tourism value chain. In this chapter, the basic functions and services of tour guides for sport activities and sport tourism will be discussed and the basic objective is to provide detailed information about this enhancing field of tourism for young generation tour guides.

Resumen
The past decade has seen advances in wireless network technologies and an explosive growth in the diversity of portable computing devices such as laptop computers, handheld personal computers, personal digital assistants (PDAs), and smart phones with Internet access. Wireless networking technologies and portable devices enable users to access information in an “anytime, anywhere” fashion. For example, a mobile user (MU) on the highway may query local weather, traffic information, nearby gas stations, next rest areas, or restaurants within 10 miles. Such new demands introduce a new type of services, location-based services (LBS), where certain location constraints (e.g., the user’s current location) are used in the service provision. The idea of queries with location constraints is originally introduced by Imielinski and Badrinath (1992), in which mobile users are likely to query information relating to their current positions, leading to the need for LBS. Such services are also termed as location dependent information services (LDIS) in Lee, Lee, Xu, and Zheng (2002). LBS system is the context sensitive systems in a mobile computing environment that consider the user’s location as a significant and dynamic factor affecting the information and services delivered to the users. The major LBS applications include: • Destination guides with maps, driving directions, and real time prompt • Location-based traffic and weather alerts • Wireless advertising and electronic coupons to nearby mobile devices • Movie, theatre and restaurant location and booking • Store locating applications helping users to find the desired services • Telematics-based roadside assistance (e.g., OnStar from General Motors) • Personal content and messaging (Live Chat with friends) • Mobile Yellow Pages provide local information • Information Services (News, Stocks, Sports) • E911: (Wireless carriers provide wireless callers’ numbers and locations.) Generally, LBS services can be classified into three general categories: telematics LBS, Internet LBS, and wireless LBS (Telc). Telematics LBS is the integration of wireless communications, vehicle monitoring systems, and location devices. Telematics LBS applications include automated vehicle location, fleet tracking, online navigation, and emergency assistance. For example, a trucking company can track all their fleet, proactively warn about traffic ahead, and estimate the arrival time. Commercial LBS providers are beginning to offer important management applications that help direct vehicle fleets and ensure optimal usage of key assets. Telematics LBS is a multibillion dollar service industry and is currently the largest segment of the LBS market (Telc). Internet LBS provide Internet users the services relevant to their specified locations. Because they use a user-specified location instead of the user’s current location, no positioning technology is required. For example, one can find turn-by-turn driving direction from one location to another and search for tour information about the destination. These services are targeting applications with stationary users, relatively powerful computers, and reliable network connections. As a result, Internet LBS support sophisticated services, such as local business searching and comparison, trip planning, online virtual tours, and so forth. Wireless LBS deliver location relevant content to cell phones, PDAs, and other wireless devices. Equipped with automated positioning technologies, MUs can query local weather, nearby traffic information, and local businesses close to them. For example, a user can search neighboring post office or coffer shop from the PDA. The wireless LBS market is currently in a nascent stage, but it will potentially become the largest segment of the LBS market. The deployment of third generation (3G) mobile network, which support handsets that are both mobile and location sensitive, will lead to more wireless LBS subscribers and more useful LBS applications.

Personalized software has been extensively used in museum guides and recommendation systems for tours because it provides added value to the interaction of the user with cultural heritage. However, this added value can only be confirmed through an evaluation experiment. Therefore, this chapter presents the indoor and outdoor personalized tours for exploring cultural heritage. More specifically, the chapter focuses on the methods used for personalization, the technology employed to improve interaction, and the evaluation experiments that have been implemented. The evaluation experiments are further categorized with respect to the method of evaluation and the criteria used. Finally, it provides a discussion on the main conclusions drawn from the researchers conducting evaluation experiments of the system performing indoor and outdoor tours for the exploration of cultural heritage.

Resumen
A study to characterize the steam waterhammer phenomena of a low pressure cooling injection (LPCI) system for a Mark 1 boiling water reactor (BWR) has been performed using RELAP5 and GOTHIC during a transient event. The scenario of particular interest was a manual switchover from shutdown cooling mode 3 to low pressure injection due to a loss of coolant accident (LOCA). This transient was initiated by opening the isolation valves of the two trains on a LPCI system into the torus. The torus was considered to be at atmospheric pressure and 20°C. The initial condition of the problem was set up su
