Pit membranes in bordered pits between neighbouring vessels play a major role in the entry of air-water menisci from an embolised vessel into a water-filled vessel (i.e., air-seeding). Here, we investigate intervessel pit membrane thickness (TPM) and embolism resistance (P50, i.e., the water potential corresponding to 50% loss of hydraulic conductivity) across a broad range of woody angiosperm species. Data on TPM and double intervessel wall thickness (TVW) were compiled based on electron and light microscopy. Fresh material that was directly fixated for transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was investigated for 71 species, while non-fresh samples were frozen, stored in alcohol, or air dried prior to TEM preparation for an additional 60 species. TPM and P50 were based on novel observations and literature. A strong correlation between TPM and P50 was found for measurements based on freshly fixated material (r = 0.78, P >0.01, n = 37), and between TPM and TVW (r = 0.79, P >0.01, n = 59), while a slightly weaker relationship occurred between TVW and P50 (r = 0.40, P >0.01, n = 34). However, non-fresh samples showed no correlation between TPM and P50, and between TPM and TVW. Intervessel pit membranes in non-fresh samples were c.28% thinner and more electron dense than fresh samples. Our findings demonstrate that TPM measured on freshly fixated material provides one of the strongest wood anatomical correlates of droughtinduced embolism resistance in angiosperms. Assuming that cellulose microfibrils show an equal spatial density, TPM is suggested to affect the length and the shape of intervessel pit membrane pores, but not the actual pore size. Moreover, the shrinking effect observed for TPM after dehydration and frost is associated with an increase in microfibril density and porosity, which may provide a functional explanation for embolism fatigue.

Resumen
Abstract The aim of this work was to identify concentration levels of different chemical forms of mercury (TGM, TPM) in the ambient air in selected areas of the Silesian Region, characterized by low and high mercury emission. Based on the obtained data TGM and TPM concentration levels were determined. The project also focused on determination of dry and wet deposition of mercury compounds. Data concerning TGM and TPM flux rates in the ambient air and data on mercury deposition were used to determine a deposition coefficient. The coefficient was calculated as a share of mercury deposition on the land surface (dry and wet) to the amount of this contaminant transported with loads of air in the form of TGM and TPM in a given measurement station. At both monitoring stations the deposition coefficient did not exceed 0.2 %. The idea of calculating the deposition coefficient based on the analysis of TGM and TPM flux rate is a new solution. The proposed deposition coefficient allows to quantify information on a selected contaminant concentration and its potential impact resulting from deposition. Further studies on the deposition coefficient may contribute to the development of methods for estimating the impact of contaminants contained in the ambient air on other environmental components based on the analyses of the contaminant flux rate.

Resumen
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to review the literature on total productive maintenance (TPM) implementation practice to present an overview of TPM implementation practices adopted by various manufacturing organizations and suggest possible gaps from researchers and practitioner’s point of view. This study tries to identify the best strategy for improving competitiveness of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in globalized market and evaluates TPM implementation practice in SMEs. Design/methodology/approach – The objective of this paper is to study the role of TPM program in context of Indian industries either from SMEs to large-scale industries. The approach has been directed toward justification of TPM implementation practice for its support to competitive manufacturing in the context of Indian manufacturing industries. Findings – TPM implementation improves productivity and working efficiency of employees and also improves equipment effectiveness and a positive inclination toward company is registered. Therefore, equipment maintenance is an indispensable function in a manufacturing enterprise. In this highly competitive environment, manufacturing organizations should consider maintenance function as a potential source for cost savings and competitive advantage. SMEs must be considered as an engine for economic growth all over the world (Singh et al., 2008). A total of 148 papers related to TPM implementation in large-scale industries and SMEs were collected, analyzed and classified on the basis of their applications, broadly into large industry and SMEs and further divided into Indian and Non-Indian, then case study, implementation, model, literature review, maintenance, service, etc. This classification has clearly shows that SMEs are in a need to adopt TPM implementation practice to compete in this global market and changing requirements of large industries. Maintenance is an indispensable function in a manufacturing enterprise. In this highly competitive environment, manufacturing organizations must be considered maintenance function as a potential source for cost savings and competitive advantage. Singh et al. (2008) have concluded that SMEs must be considered as an engine for economic growth of all over the world. Following are the objectives of this study: to suggest a classification of available literature on TPM implementation; to identify the need of TPM implementation in SMEs; to identify critical observations on each category of classification; to identify the potential of SMEs in India; to identify emerging trends of TPM implementation in India; to suggest directions for future researchers in the field of TPM implementation on the basis of above mention points; and to consolidate all available literature on TPM implementation practice. Research limitations/implications – The challenges of stiff competition and the drive for profits are forcing the organizations to implement various productivity improvement efforts to meet the challenges posed by ever-changing market demands. In the dynamic and highly challenging environment, reliable manufacturing equipment is regarded as the major contributor to the performance and profitability of manufacturing systems. Practical implications – In this dynamic world, importance of SMEs in the growth of the nation needs more attention of researchers and industrialists. After the globalization of market, SMEs have got many opportunities to work in integration with large-scale organizations. All the organizations from SMEs to large-scale industries can adopt effective and efficient maintenance strategies such as condition-based maintenance, reliability-centered maintenance and TPM over the traditional firefighting reactive maintenance approaches (Sharma et al., 2005). Social implications – In our view, this paper clearly identifies implications for research which will be useful for society. The gap discussed by authors needs to be addressed by future researchers. Originality/value – This implementation strategy can help to save huge amounts of time, money and other useful resources in dealing with reliability, availability, maintainability and performance issues. On the basis of available literature, it can be understood that SMEs should change their maintenance strategies to cope up with global competition so that a lot of resources can be utilized in a better direction.

Resumen
Tropomyosin (TPM) is a contractile protein responsible for muscle contraction through its actin-binding activity. The complete sequence of TPM in Haliotis discus hannai (Hdh-TPM) was 2160 bp, encoding 284 amino acids, and contained a TPM signature motif and a TPM domain. Gene ontology (GO) analysis based on the amino acid sequence predicted Hdh-TPM to have an actin-binding function in the cytoskeleton. The 3D analysis predicted the Hdh-TPM to have a coiled-coil α-helical structure. Phylogenetically, Hdh-TPM formed a cluster with other TPM/TPM1 proteins during analysis. The tissue-specific mRNA expression analysis found the higher expression of Hdh-TPM in the heart and muscles; however, during embryonic and larval development (ELD), the higher expression was found in the trochophore larvae and veliger larvae. Hdh-TPM expression was upregulated in fast-growing abalone. Increasing thermal stress over a long period decreased Hdh-TPM expression. Long-term starvation (>1 week) reduced the mRNA expression of Hdh-TPM in muscle; however, the mRNA expression of Hdh-TPM was significantly higher in the mantle, which may indicate overexpression. This study is the first comprehensive study to characterize the Hdh-TPM gene in Pacific abalone and to report the expression of Hdh-TPM in different organs, and during ELD, different growth patterns, thermal stress, seasonal changes, and starvation.

Tropomyosin (Tpm) mutations cause inherited cardiac diseases such as hypertrophic and dilated cardiomyopathies. We applied various approaches to investigate the role of cardiac troponin (Tn) and especially the troponin T (TnT) in the pathogenic effects of Tpm cardiomyopathy-associated mutations M8R, K15N, A277V, M281T, and I284V located in the overlap junction of neighboring Tpm dimers. Using co-sedimentation assay and viscosity measurements, we showed that TnT1 (fragment of TnT) stabilizes the overlap junction of Tpm WT and all Tpm mutants studied except Tpm M8R. However, isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) indicated that TnT1 binds Tpm WT and all Tpm mutants similarly. By using ITC, we measured the direct KD of the Tpm overlap region, N-end, and C-end binding to TnT1. The ITC data revealed that the Tpm C-end binds to TnT1 independently from the N-end, while N-end does not bind. Therefore, we suppose that Tpm M8R binds to TnT1 without forming the overlap junction. We also demonstrated the possible role of Tn isoform composition in the cardiomyopathy development caused by M8R mutation. TnT1 dose-dependently reduced the velocity of F-actin-Tpm filaments containing Tpm WT, Tpm A277V, and Tpm M281T mutants in an in vitro motility assay. All mutations impaired the calcium regulation of the actin–myosin interaction. The M281T and I284V mutations increased the calcium sensitivity, while the K15N and A277V mutations reduced it. The Tpm M8R, M281T, and I284V mutations under-inhibited the velocity at low calcium concentrations. Our results demonstrate that Tpm mutations likely implement their pathogenic effects through Tpm interaction with Tn, cardiac myosin, or other protein partners.

Resumen
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to identify the key enabler for total productive maintenance (TPM) implementation in Indian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by using graph theoretic approach (GTA). There are certain enablers for TPM implementation which helps the organization to implement it successfully. It is very essential to identify the nature and impact of these key enablers. Design/methodology/approach A large number of the enablers (27) have identified for TPM implementation in Indian SMEs from the available literature, questionnaire survey and expert opinion. These TPM enablers have categorized into six major categories. Findings In this research work, the intensity of identifying enablers has been calculated to show their impact or influence in TPM implementation. The value of intensity of TPM enablers shows the role or impact of individual enabler in the implementation of TPM in Indian SMEs. Practical implications This study provides an easy-to-use methodology for the practical decision makers in the manufacturing industry to improve their performance by implementing TPM in Indian SMEs. A detailed methodology has prepared to identify the enablers for TPM implementation in Indian SMEs by using GTA. This study also explains that how to check the feasibility of an organization to implement TPM in Indian SMEs successfully. Originality/value TPM is an improvement concept which holds the potential to improve manufacturing organizations, but its implementation is not easy in Indian SMEs. The reason behind the unsuccessful implementation of TPM in most of the organizations is the ignorance of impact of innumerable enablers and barriers.

Resumen
This paper aims to examine the Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) as the significant technique to improve the maintenance management of production equipment. Attempt was made to discuss the available literature related to existing techniques in maintenance management, particularly on breakdown maintenance (BM), preventive maintenance (PM), predictive maintenance (PdM) or condition-based maintenance (CBM), reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and TPM. The outcomes from these reviews would serve as useful guidelines for the future research in maintenance management. This review justifies TPM as a comprehensive technique to improve the flaw in maintenance management. Notably, TPM encompasses of all elements applied by other maintenance methodology, from tools and techniques to involvement of all operational hierarchical in the organization as what is very much required in manufacturing organization is to integrate different functional areas in a coherent manner.

Resumen
TPM is the foundation for JIT (Just in Time) and Lean Manufacturing and forms the basis of JIT or on-time delivery. The goal of TPM is to improve equipment effectiveness and optimize equipment performance, namely PQCDSM (Productivity, Quality, Cost and Delivery, Safety and health, environment, and Morale). Many producers have tried to transform their production system to a JIT or Lean production system with the aim of increasing productivity and quality, but thus far with little success. This contribution shows how trekking and climbing tours can be used to illustrate the application of PQCDSM-Logic in mountaineering and how this can be transferred to logistics and maintenance practice. The background is the author's decades of experience with expeditions, trekking and climbing tours, TPM implementations and interviews with numerous experts. There are many similarities between the application of PQCDSM-Logic in mountaineering and in logistics and maintenance practice, which will help both in operational practice in industry and in high mountain tours, especially regarding safety in a changing environment. Presented is the extrapolation from mountain climbing to TPM and the importance of leadership for a successful (summit climbs and the like) transformation of the production system to a JIT or Lean production system.

Resumen
This paper presents corrosion failure analysis of 13Cr stainless steel (SS) in gas pipeline ingas pipeline, which was used as thermocouple protecting material (TPM). A portion of TMP faileddue to pitting corrosion under unknown circumstances. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) andX-ray diffraction (XRD) are employed to characterize the scales and/or corrosion products near thefailed portion. Based on visual and microscopic analyses, reviewing the background information andthe thermodynamic calculation, the following rapid pitting corrosion failure sequences wereidentified: Once the pitting appeared, in addition to the gas leakage and expansion, the temperaturedrop should lead a small amount of water in dry gas to condense on the surface of TPM. On one hand, the high salinity produced water will corrode the thermocouple. On the other hand, the high salinityproduced water will pass into the annular space of TPM through the pitting because of the pressuredrop, and the water will stay on inner surface for more time than that of external surface, whichaccelerated pitting of TPM. More and more pitting appeared, and the surface roughness increased. The film-forming property of condensation water will also increase. So, the TPM will be scrappedsoon.

Resumen
2537 Background: Hormone receptor (HR) [androgen receptor (AR), estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR)] expression is ubiquitous across tumor types and central to breast and prostate cancer treatment. While implicated in tumorigenesis, its role as a prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target in other tumor types has yet to be elucidated. Methods: We performed bioinformatic analyses of HR expression [reported as median transcripts per million (TPM)] using RNAseq from the Cancer Genome Atlas and completed Kaplan-Meier analyses to identify associations between HR expression and median overall survival (OS). Results: 9,743 samples from 9,674 patients across 33 tumor types were analyzed. AR was highly expressed in GBM (2 TPM), low grade glioma (2 TPM), breast (15 TPM), prostate (14 TPM), ovarian (6 TPM), renal clear cell carcinoma (4 TPM) and HCC (2 TPM) . Tumors with the highest quartile of expression had improved OS in renal clear cell [53 months (mo) vs not reached (NR), p = 4x10-11] and adrenocortical carcinoma (45 mo vs NR, p = .03) and worse OS in low grade glioma (119 vs 64 mo, p = 6x10-4). PR was highly expressed in uterine (12 TPM), breast (5 TPM), and renal chromophobe (2 TPM) carcinoma. PR expression was associated with improved OS in sarcoma (49 mo vs NR, p = .03), endometrial (NR, p = .02) and renal clear cell carcinoma (58 mo vs NR, p = .003) and worse OS in low grade glioma (53 vs 97 mo, p = .01), gastric adenocarcinoma (7 vs 17 mo, p = .04), and possibly pancreatic adenocarcinoma (21 vs 44 mo, p = .07). ER was highly expressed in breast (116 TPM), endometrial (87 TPM), ovarian (32 TPM), cervical (4 TPM), thyroid (4 TPM), prostate (3 TPM), and lung adenocarcinoma (2 TPM). ER expression was associated with improved OS in mesothelioma (15 vs 28 mo, p = .03) and endometrial cancer (NR, p = .001) and worse OS in squamous lung cancer (80 vs 48 mo, p = .02). Conclusions: HR expression may represent a novel prognostic marker in multiple tumor types and a candidate for drug development in low grade glioma, gastric adenocarcinomas, squamous cell lung cancer, and pancreatic adenocarcinomas. Protein-based IHC testing and early phase clinical trials targeting HR signaling in these tumor types is warranted.

Resumen
Purpose This study aims to introduce transformative place management – TPM – (defined as the deliberate efforts of place managers in commercial settings to provide a pool of restorative resources to improve the consumers’ emotional well-being) by merging the REPLACE framework and transformative service research. Additionally, this research analyzes the direct and indirect impacts of restorative resources as a form of TPM on consumers’ emotional well-being and place attachment, considering the moderating role of employee emotional labor. Design/methodology/approach A total of 240 customers were surveyed in an experience-based store in a developing country by using a questionnaire. Then, a moderated mediation model was applied to analyze the moderating role of employee emotional labor in the relationship between TPM and place attachment through consumers’ well-being. Findings TPM that provides restorative resources to consumers influences place attachment by improving consumer well-being. However, surface acting by employees reduces the ability of TPM to increase place attachment through the improvement of consumers’ emotional well-being. Deep acting, on the other hand, does not enhance the effect of TPM on place attachment through consumers’ emotional well-being. Originality/value This paper proposes new developments in the transformative service research (TSR) paradigm by introducing TPM. By showing how the place of consumption increases the well-being of customers, this paper helps TSR researchers to accomplish the purpose of transforming the lives of consumers through relevant research. Although marketing researchers and environmental psychologists have theoretically anticipated the positive effects on well-being from consumption settings, this paper explains how commercial places promote customer well-being through the provision of restorative resources. Also, this paper shows how the place of consumption transforms consumers’' lives and identifies some of the boundary conditions at which such a transformation occurs.
