Resumen
Athletes as tourists: Consumer Behaviour of Participants at the 2007 and 2009 World Universiade GamesConsiderable research has been devoted to sport mega-events including the Olympic Games, the FIFA World Cup, and the Commonwealth Games. Yet few studies have focused on the lesser known or "second tier" international sport events in order to understand the patterns and the impact of participant consumption. Further, few sport event studies are extended beyond a single assessment. This study examines a recurring sport event, the World Universiade Summer Games, that took place in two different countries, Belgrade, Serbia and Bangkok, Thailand. A profile of participants at the 2007 and 2009 Universiades was generated to reveal and compare their consumer behaviour in the host cities and over time. Subjects were queried on-site during selected days of competition (N=441, 2007; N=221, 2009). Findings demonstrate a remarkable consistency in participant characteristics and local spend from 2007 to 2009, though the amount spent per night was considerably less than the average per night spend by other types of tourists in the host countries, suggesting that Universiade athletes are non high-value tourists. Discussion and implications of findings to sport and tourism destination scholars and marketers are presented.

Resumen
In the present study, the reliability and validity of judging at the European championship in Berlin 2011 were analysed and the results were compared to a different level gymnastic competition - Universiade 2009 in Belgrade. For reliability and consistency assessment, mean absolute judge deviation from final execution score, Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, intra-class correlations (ICC) and Armor’s theta coefficient were calculated. For validity assessment mean deviations of judges’ scores, Kendall’s coefficient of concordance W and ANOVA eta-squared values were used. For Berlin 2011 in general Cronbach’s alpha was above 0.95, minima of item-total correlations were above 0.8, and the ICC of average scores and Armor’s theta were above 0.94. Comparison with Universiade 2009 identified vault and floor scores at both competitions to have inferior reliability indices. At both competitions average deviations of judges from the final E score were close to zero (p=0.84) but Berlin 2011 competition showed a higher number of apparatuses with significant Kendall’s W (5 vs. 2 for Universiade 2009) and higher eta-squared values indicating higher judge panel bias in all-round and apparatus finals. In conclusion, the quality of judging was comparable at examined gymnastics competitions of different levels. Further work must be done to analyse the inferior results at vault and floor apparatuses.

Resumen
Introduction. Collecting data about the structure and function of private health care sector in Serbia and its inclusion in joint health care system is one of the most important issues for making decisions in health care and getting more accurate picture about the possibilities of health care system in Serbia. The aim of this analysis was to compare health institutions, personnel, visits, number of hospital days and morbidity by ICD-10 classification of diseases in public and private health sector in South Backa, Nisava, Toplica and Belgrade district in 2009. Material and Methods. A retrospective comparative analysis was performed using data about private providers of health services obtained from the Institute of Public Health Novi Sad, the Institute of Public Health Nis and the City Institute of Public Health Belgrade. Data about personnel and morbidity in public health sector in Serbia for 2009 was obtained from the Center for Information Technology of the Institute for Public Health of Serbia. Data about public health facilities in South Backa, Nisava, Toplica and Belgrade district in 2009 was obtained from Serbian Chamber of medical institutions. Results. The results showed that health care was provided in Belgrade district in 2009 by total of 1,051 employees in private sector and 31,404 in public sector. We found that public sector had a far wider range of health facilities than private sector, which was mainly due to the number of clinics. In South Backa district private sector had 323 practices, the district of Belgrade 655 and Nisava and Toplica district 173. Seventeen times more visits to households (4,650,423 vs. 267,356) and 111 times greater number of hospital days was provided in public health sector as compared to private health sector (781,083 vs. 7,023) in South Backa district. Conclusion. The conclusion of this analysis was that public health sector has remained the foundation of health care system in Serbia. Private health sector is expanding, but its structure and scope of services is still undervalued as compared to public sector.

Resumen
The paper focuses on the celebration of Ramadan Bayram and the organization of the feast Bayram sofra in Belgrade. The Islamic Community of Serbia and the Cultural Society of Muslims in Serbia - ?Gajret?, have been organizing the Bayram sofra since 2009 as the celebration which symbolizes the end of the Ramadan fasting. The celebration is held in the public space in front of the Bajrakli mosque in Belgrade. Since it is organized as part of the celebration of Ramadan Bayram, its meaning can be observed and analyzed in a religious, but also in a broader social context. In this paper, we observe the Bayram sofra in the context of learning about Islam, as the minority religious community, but also as an event which initiates interreligious dialogue at several different levels. Thus, we focus on identifying the elements of dialogue between the Islamic community and other religious communities, as well as the citizens of Belgrade, relying on some theoretical concepts of interreligious dialogue. The ethnographic research of the Bayram sofra started in 2020 with the main focus on the social and religious elements of Ramadan Bayram and the role of this religious festival in enhancing the visibility of this religious minority in Serbia.

Resumen
Introduction. Trichinellosis is one of the most important foodborne diseases in Serbia. Most patients with suspected trichinellosis in Belgrade are referred to the Clinical Center of Serbia for diagnosis and treatment, as are unclear and complicated cases from all across Serbia. Materials and Methods. A retrospective study of trichinellosis serology was carried out from 2009-2018 and included all outpatients and hospitalised patients from the Clinic for Infectious and Tropical Disease, Clinical Center of Serbia, who were serologically tested for Trichinella by the Parasitological Laboratory (n=1,565). Trichinella-specific IgG antibodies were detected in sera by a commercial ELISA test. We analysed the seroprevalence of Trichinella-specific IgG antibodies, antibody detection kinetics and cross-reactivity with other nematodes. Results and Conclusions. The number of patients who reported for serological testing varied greatly per year and month. Most patients were tested in December and March, which coincides with the months with the most confirmed cases of trichinellosis. A total of 17.4% patients who were tested for trichinellosis had other parasitic infections. Altogether, 223 (14.2%) of tested patients were finally diagnosed with trichinellosis. We detected anti-Trichinella IgG in 68.8% (223) of patients with suspected trichinellosis on admission, which increased to 86.5%, 91.5% and 92.4% after later second, third and fourth testing, respectively. Final diagnoses of toxocariasis, strongyloidiasis, filariasis, and dirofilariasis were made for 2.4%, 0.3%, 0.3% and 0.1% of patients, respectively. Concurrent seropositivity for Trichinella and Toxocara was observed in 18.9% (7/37) of patients with clinical presentation of trichinellosis and who were also tested for toxocariasis. In 3/5 patients with imported filariasis, we found cross-reactivity with Trichinella. Potential cross-reactivity of this ELISA test with antibodies to the autochthonous nematode Toxocara canis demands the introduction of Western blot technology. Trichinellosis must be diagnosed by the combination of clinical, laboratory and epidemiological criteria.

Resumen
This article deals with the soundscape of Mikser, an independent festival of contemporary creativity, established in 2009 in Belgrade, the capital city of Serbia. I focus on the years 2012-2016, during which Mikser was taking place in Savamala, an urban quarter in central Belgrade - which itself has undergone various urbanistic and cultural transformations in recent years. The creative team behind Mikser aimed to turn Savamala into a permanent fixture on the map of Belgrade nightlife and a tourist hotspot; the fact that they did not succeed was on account both of financial issues and conflicting top-down business interests. My conclusion is that the long-term survival of the festival is not dependent on its program or audiences, but on securing official support and infrastructure.

Resumen
The most represented tree species in the Banjica Forest are Acer negundo, Quercus robur, Acer pseudoplatanus, Populus nigra, Fraxinus pennsylvanica, Fraxinus ornus and Robinia pseudoacacia. According to the ICP Forests combined assessment (degree of defoliation and decolorization), endangered species are Populus nigra (64.3% of heavily damaged trees), Quercus robur (45.5%), Fraxinus pennsylvanica (37.0%) and Acer negundo (26.6%), while the situation is much better for Acer pseudoplatanus and Fraxinus ornus. For Robinia pseudoacacia, 83% of trees are without decolorization, however, defoliation is established. In the period from April to October 2009, the average pH of rainwater was 5.46, and 5.18 in the period from November 2009 to March 2010. The concentration of SO42- in the period from April to October 2009 amounted to an average of 24.21 mg/l, and 28.87 mg/l in the period from November 2009 to March 2010. The concentration of SO42- and pH values is a possible explanation for the condition of the trees.

Resumen
In this paper, the author deals with the question of realization of guaranteed freedom of peaceful assembly and the prohibition of discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. The prohibition of discrimination and freedom of peaceful assembly are prescribed by international documents and domestic law. The main emphasis will be on the prohibition of the Pride Parade that was to be held in Belgrade in October 2011 and on the rights and freedoms of the LGBT population that were consequently violated. However, on 22 December 2011 the Constitutional Court of Serbia upheld a constitutional complaint lodged by the organizers of the Pride Parade in 2009. The Constitutional Court ruled that the competent authorities in Serbia banned the 2009 Pride Parade in violation of the Serbian Constitution. This decision is of great importance for human rights protection in Serbia and the cornerstone judgment regarding the prohibition of discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and realization and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms in our country.

Resumen
The paper explores illiquidity of the Serbian financial market for the period of 2005-2009. The financial market in Serbia is, by its type, a frontier market. We used daily data from the BELEXline index, as well as all stocks within this index in examined timeframe, provided by the Belgrade Stock Exchange. Results of this paper suggest that level of market liquidity is low and persistent in Serbia. Additionally, results confirm that time-varying illiquidity and its volatility is highly unstable in this market. This is the first paper that analyses liquidity issues in case of Serbia. It identifies different periods and shows that, in most cases, ups and downs in foreign investors' participation leads to dramatic falls and rises in market illiquidity and its volatility.

Resumen
Background/Aim. Continuing Medical Education (CME), conceptualised as lifelong learning (LLL) aims at improving human resources and continuing professional development. Various documents of European institutions underline its key importance. This paper therefore tries to analyse the current status of CME and the main deficits in the delivery of LLL courses at medical faculties in Serbia with special consideration of the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade with detailed financial data available. Methods. Data of 2,265 medical courses submitted in 2011 and 2012 for accreditation were made available, thereof 403 courses submitted by 4 medical faculties in Serbia (Belgrade, Kragujevac, Nis, Novi Sad). A subset of more detailed information on 88 delivered courses with 5,600 participants has been provided by the Faculty of Medicine, Belgrade. All data were transferred into an Excel file and analysed with XLSTAT 2009. To reduce the complexity and possible redundancy we performed a principal component analysis (PCA). Correlated component regression (CCR) models were used to identify determinants of course participation. Results. During the 2-year period 12.9% of all courses were submitted on preclinical and 62.4% on clinical topics, 12.2% on public health, while 61.5% of all took place in Belgrade. The subset of the Faculty of Medicine, Belgrade comprised 3,471 participants registered with 51 courses accredited and delivered in 2011 and 2,129 participants with 37 courses accredited and delivered in 2012. The median number of participants per course for the entire period was 45; the median fee rates for participants were 5,000 dinars in 2011 and 8,000 in 2012, resulting together with donations in a total income for both years together of 16,126,495.00 dinar or almost 144,000.00 euro. This allowed for a median payment of approximately 90 eur per hour lectured in 2011 and 49 euro in 2012. The 2 factors, D1 (performance) and D2 (attractiveness), identified in the PCA for Medical Faculties in Serbia, explain 71.8% of the variance. Most relevant are the duration of the courses, credit points, and hours per credit point gained by lecturers and participants respectively. In the PCA for Belgrade D1 and D2 explain 40.7% of the total variance. The CCR on the number of participants reveals the highest positive impact from the number of lecturers per course and the expenditure on amenities, the highest negative impact from the total income collected per participant. Conclusion. The faculties of medicine in Serbia should reconsider the entire structure of their organisation of CME, especially to improve the quantity and quality of registration limit the course fee rates per hour and reduce administrative and other costs request lecturing in CME programmes as obligatory for academic promotion and organise a focussed marketing.

Abstract The aim of the study was to analyse the demographic characteristics of lost and found dogs in Belgrade, Serbia. The demographic data concerning the 246 lost and 81 found dogs in the period of 5 consecutive years (January, 2009 to January 2014) was sampled and analysed from the data bases of four organizations for animal protection in Belgrade. The recovery rate of lost dogs and the chance to be reunited again with their owners was 33%. The highest recovery rate was estimated in the category of lost dogs with visible marks such as tags or collars (30%).The chi-square test disclosed that besides dogs with special visible marks, significantly more females, light colour coated, friendly/sociable and neutered dogs were reunited with their owners (P<0.0001).

Resumen
Exposure to increased cconcentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) is associated with adverse health problems and specifically with carcinogenic and mutagenic effects. The major PAH sources outdoors are: stationary sources from industry (power plants, incineration, local industry) and domestic sources as the residential heating, burning and pyrolysis of coal, oil, gas, garbage, wood, or other organic substances mobile emissions (diesel and petrol engines), biomass burning and agricultural activities (e.g., open burning of brushwood, straw, stubble). The aim of this study was to assess potential differences in particle-bound PAH levels and source contribution between summer 2009 and 2012 sampling campaigns done at same location in Belgrade urban area. The sampling location is considered representative for a mix of residential, business and industrial areas of New Belgrade, an urban area that has been under rapid development. The average concentrations of PM10 are slightly higher in summer 2012 than in 2009. PM-bound PAH follow the same trend as the PM indicating an increasing strength of PAH sources relative to all PM sources. Appling Positive Matrix Factorization, three potential sources of PAHs in the atmosphere were distinguished: (1) stationary sources, (2) traffic (diesel and gasoline vehicle exhaust) and (3) local open burning sources (OBS). The analysis confirmed higher contribution of traffic and lower of OBS in summer 2012 than in 2009, reflecting higher traffic volumes and absence of or lower local OBS emissions due to burning wood, grass and domestic waste in 2012.

Resumen
Аbstract. The paper presents the results of the research aimed at identifying changes in ethnic distance among the students of Serbia. The starting point of the study was the author’s belief that ethnic distance is a good indicator of inter-ethnic relations in multi-nation society and an indicator of conflict potential, and that ethnic distance is more stable provided social stability and open society. Ethnic distance was studied in the longitude project among Serbian students at the University in Kosovska Mitrovica five times in 2009-2016, twice - among the students in Belgrade (2010, 2014), and once among the Albanian students in Priština (December 2016 - January 2017) based on the modified Bogardus scale, a part of the questionnaire in the students’ native language and a number of surveys. The paper presents the results of the measurements of values constituting ethnic distance. The data reveal that the largest ethnic distance among Serbian students in Belgrade and in Kosovska Mitrovica was with the Albanians, while the smallest ethnic distance - with the Russians and Greeks. Among the Albanian students, the largest ethnic distance was with the Serbs, Romani and Russians, while the smallest -with the Americans and English. Certainly, the explanation should take into account the relations of these nations and official policies of their states including the self-proclamation of “Kosovo independence”, and also the positions of these nations in the period of the disintegration of Yugoslavia, wars in the former Yugoslav states and the NATO aggression on Serbia. At the same time, the ethnic distances are extremely large in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija, however, with a tendency of decline among the Serbs. During the research in 2016 - the beginning of 2017, the values of ethnic distance of the Serbian students from Kosovska Mitrovica to the Albanians and of the Albanian students from Priština to the Serbs were practically the same, especially the leading values of ethnic distance. When explaining the large ethnic distance with the Romani, it is necessary to remember about their social marginalization.

Resumen
Abstract The paper explores the possibility of making investment decisions in emerging markets by using the trend analysis method on a particular example of the capital market in Serbia. The authors, starting from the common features of technical analysis, have analysed the common share index value in the capital market in Serbia, in the Belgrade Stock Exchange - Belexline from 1 March 2006 to 31 March 2009, by the usage of two moving averages method - Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD): an intermediate term of 50 days and a long-term one of 100 days. The above mentioned moving averages identify the establishment of a trend, the cessation of the existing one, a change and an establishment of the new one. The capital market in Serbia had two distinctive long-term trends within the above mentioned observed period of time. The method of two moving averages in combination with the MACD indicator analysis gave quite reliable signals of weakening and change of the long-term trend direction. Analysis of the long-term trend has not been considered for the period from 2009 to date because the market during this period was illiquid with little trading volume, while some stocks that are entered in the Belexline are not more subject of trade.

Resumen
Homophobia is present in contemporary Serbian society as a rather widespread treatment of non-heterosexuality. It is manifested through various forms of public hate speech, through the forms and cases of discrimination and violence that are caused by homophobia, and through the homophobia-caused deprivation of members of the LGBT population of their various rights, particularly the right to the freedom of peaceful public assembly. Such homophobia is mostly shown by research data recently obtained by the Serbian LGBT rights groups (such as Gay Straight Alliance and Labris) and by media reporting on the recent public events (mostly on three recent attempts to organise Pride Parades in Belgrade, in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012). The research data showed that homophobia originates mostly from a lack of knowledge and a stereotyped comprehension of the people and relations among them, while its main protagonists in Serbia are nationalists, traditionalists, conformists and those who believe that hating others is the proper and even only way to defend their national and territorial integrity, as well as a reflection of their genuine patriotism. The spheres in which it is active include all social relations, from private and family, through professional, to public, media and political relations. Research data obtained in recent years by LGBT organisations provide evidence that homophobia is still very prevalent in Serbia, in some respects somewhat more so than in 2008, when the first research of that type was conducted.

Resumen
The application of the principal component analysis and artificial neural network method in forecasting 137Cs behaviour in the air as the function of meteorological parameters is presented. The model was optimized and tested using 137Cs specific activities obtained by standard gamma-ray spectrometric analysis of air samples collected in Belgrade (Serbia) during 2009-2011 and meteorological data for the same period. Low correlation (r = 0.20) between experimental values of 137Cs specific activities and those predicted by artificial neural network was obtained. This suggests that artificial neural network in the case of prediction of 137Cs specific activity, using temperature, insolation, and global Sun warming does not perform well, which can be explained by the relative independence of 137Cs specific activity of particular meteorological parameters and not by the ineffectiveness of artificial neural network in relating these parameters in general.

Resumen
Apricot cultivar assortment in Serbia is characterized by a small number of cultivars and a short period of maturing. Most apricot fruits are harvested in the season of cultivar ?Hungarian Best? or at a short time afterwards. There is particularly a lack of early- and late-maturing cultivars of high quality fruit. This study was aimed at evaluating of 14 introduced apricot cultivars of late maturing time in order to recommend the best of them for growing in the Belgrade region. The study was carried out at the Experimental station ?Radmilovac? of the Faculty of Agriculture in Belgrade over a period of five years (2009-2013). The experimental orchard was established in 2007, the rootstock was Myrobalan seedling, and tree spacing was 4.5 x 3 m. Control cultivar for comparison was ?Hungarian Best?, which is the most grown apricot cultivar in Serbia. Flowering of introduced cultivars ranged from three days before to three days after the control cultivar (?Hungarian Best?), while the maturation time was 7 to 15 days after the control. Compared with the control cultivar, significantly higher yield was achieved in seven cultivars (?Harogem?, ?Umberto?, ?Litoral?, ?Sophia?, ?Harlayne?, ?Bergarouge?, and ?Silistrenska Kompotna?), while significantly higher fruit weight was achieved in two cultivars (?Cegledy Arany? and ?Sophia?). Compared to the control higher content of soluble solids was found in four cultivars (?Kabaasi?, ?Late Dryanovska?, ?Harlayne?, and ?Silistrenska Kompotna?). Cultivar ?Sophia? got the best score for fruit appearance, while cultivars ?Late Dryanovska? and ?Silistrenska Kompotna? got the best scores for taste. Among studied apricot cultivars, for the cultivation in the Belgrade region, the following cultivars can be recommended as promising: ?Sophia? for fresh consumption, and ?Harlayne? and ?Silistrenska Kompotna? for processing. In addition, five cultivars of combined traits (both for fresh consumption and processing) can also be recommended: ?Harogem?, ?Cegledy Arany?, ?Bergarouge?, ?Pisana? and ?Late Dryanovska?.

Resumen
Abstract Introduction Indoor air quality (IAQ) is rated as a serious public health issue. Knowing children are accounted as more vulnerable to environmental health hazards, data are needed on air quality in schools. Methods A project was conducted from 2007 until 2009 (SEARCH, School Environment and Respiratory Health of Children), aiming to verify links between IAQ and children’s respiratory health. Study was conducted in ten primary schools on 735 children, in 44 classrooms. Children were randomly selected. Research tools and indicators used for children’s exposure to school environment were indoor and outdoor pollutants, two standardized questionnaires for school and classroom characteristics. In both classroom air and ambient air in front of them we measured, during a 5-day exposure period for continuous 24h measuring: carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, indoor air temperature, relative humidity, and PM10 during classes. Results PM10 concentrations were significantly most frequent in an interval of ≥80.1μg/m3, that is, in the interval above 50μg/m3. Mean PM10 value was 82.24±42.43 μg/m3, ranging from 32.00μg/m3 to of 197.00μg/m3. Conclusion The increase of outdoor PM10 concentration significantly affects the increase of indoor PM10. A statistically significant difference exists for average IAQ PM10 concentrations vs. indicators of indoor thermal comfort zone (p<0.0001); they are lower in the classrooms with indicators within the comfort zone. Moreover, dominant factors for the increase of PM10 are: high occupancy rate in the classroom (<2m2 of space per child), high relative humidity (>75%), and indoor temperature beyond 23°C, as well as bad ventilation habits (keeping windows shut most of the time).

Resumen
Introduction. At the Department of Minimally Invasive Upper Digestive Surgery of the Hospital for Digestive Surgery in Belgrade, hybrid minimally invasive esophagectomy (hMIE) has been a standard of care for patients with resectable esophageal cancer since 2009. As a next and final step in the change management, from January 2015 we utilized total minimally invasive esophagectomy (tMIE) as a standard of care. Objective. The aim of the study was to report initial experiences in hMIE (laparoscopic approach) for cancer and analyze surgical technique, major morbidity and 30-day mortality. Methods. A retrospective cohort study included 44 patients who underwent elective hMIE for esophageal cancer at the Department for Minimally Invasive Upper Digestive Surgery, Hospital for Digestive Surgery, Clinical Center of Serbia in Belgrade from April 2009 to December 2014. Results. There were 16 (36%) middle thoracic esophagus tumors and 28 (64%) tumors of distal thoracic esophagus. Mean duration of the operation was 319 minutes (approximately five hours and 20 minutes). The average blood loss was 173.6 ml. A total of 12 (27%) of patients had postoperative complications and mean intensive care unit stay was 2.8 days. Mean hospital stay after surgery was 16 days. The average number of harvested lymph nodes during surgery was 31.9. The overall 30-day mortality rate within 30 days after surgery was 2%. Conclusion. As long as MIE is an oncological equivalent to open esophagectomy (OE), better relation between cost savings and potentially increased effectiveness will make MIE the preferred approach in high-volume esophageal centers that are experienced in minimally invasive procedures.

Resumen
Intensive pig breeding implies, among other things, the use of complete mixes in their diet in correspondence with the animals? age and purpose. In the course of a threeyear period (2007-2009) the accredited laboratory of the Department for Nutrition and Botanics of the Faculty for Veterinary Medicine, Univerisity of Belgrade, analysed 65 fodder mix samples from the territory of Serbia intended for the diet of all categories of pigs, namely: 6 samples of complete mixes for the diet of pregnant sows and gilts, 9 samples of complete mixes for the diet of nursing sows and boar, 4 samples of complete mixes for enhanced diet of piglets, 13 samples of complete mixes for piglets in programme I up to 15 kg, 12 samples of complete mixes for piglets in programme II from 15-25 kg, 10 samples of complete mixes for growing pigs in fattening programme I from 25-60 kg, and 11 samples of complete mixes for pigs in fattening programme II from 60-100 kg. The analyses covered the contents of the elementary nutritive matter and the obtained results were compared with the quality conditions prescribed under the Regulations on the quality of animal feed (Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia No. 41/09). It was established that there were certain deviations with regard to the values presented in the Regulations on the quality of animal feed (Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia No. 41/09) in the average protein content in complete mixes for piglet diet II, 15-25 kg (17.89?1.19%) and in the mixes for growing pig diet II, 60-100 kg (13.95?0.53%). The established average fat content was lower in the mixes for enhanced piglet diet (5.99? 0.72%) and in mixes for piglet diet I, up to 15 kg (4.95?1.41%). A higher average cellulose content (4.08?0.73%) was established in mixes for enhanced piglet diet. Furthermore, significant differences from the values prescribed under the Regulations were established in certain samples. The established differences in the chemical composition of certain samples of the examined mixes without a doubt indicate the need for constant and multilevel monitoring of raw materials and finished products in order to preserve health and to ensure the best possible utilization of the production potential of animals.

Resumen
In this study, airborne particulates (PM10) and leaves of horse chestnut were collected at selected urban sites in Belgrade, Serbia, in years 2006, 2009 and 2012. All samples were analysed for trace element concentrations of As, Cd, Cr, Ni and Pb. It has been shown that, during the study period, the differences among PM10 mass trace element concentrations were not considerable, and that the measured mass and trace elements concentrations were below the Serbian and EU legislation limits. Highest values of trace element concentrations in leaves were observed in year 2012, with the exception of Pb. Lead concentration had a decreasing trend during the whole studied period, in both PM10 and tree leaves. Since leaded gasoline was banned in 2011, a possible reason could be an increasing number of vehicles using unleaded kind along the previous years. Although trace elements in horse chestnut leaves were accumulated only during summer season, horse chestnut leaves showed good response to changes in trace element atmospheric concentrations. However, seasonal variability was evident in trace element source apportionment due to the lack of stationary heating system influence. The Principal Component Analysis showed that during the studied period, one of the major sources of the measured elements was fossil fuel combustion.

Resumen
Introduction. The prevalence of unhealthy alcohol use among university students is increasing in many countries. Objective. The aim of the study was to investigate alcohol consumption and alcohol-related knowledge, attitudes and risky behaviors among Serbian university students. Methods. The cross-sectional study was carried out at the three state universities from January to June in the academic year 2009/2010 and included 2,285 students of both genders. The students filled out a questionnaire consisting of 70 questions with respect to demographic and socioeconomic characteristics, their lifestyle habits, styles and attitudes, health assessment, as well as exposure to different risk factors. Results. It was found that 77.7% of students drank alcohol occasionally, 4.6% of them consumed it on a daily basis. Friedman?s test (p<0.001) showed that students prefer drinking beer to all other alcoholic beverages. Students in Belgrade and students of Technical faculties are undisputed champions when it comes to how often they drink six or more drinks on a single occasion. Older students in Serbia drink more and get drunk more frequently. Conclusion. A high percentage of Serbian students consume alcohol, and even though they have their first drink at an early age, they generally drink less than students in many other countries.

Resumen
Entomophaga maimaiga is one of the best-known gypsy moth pathogens with increasing importance in the biological control aimed at reducing the population of this defoliator. The territory of the Republic of Serbia is a very favorable gypsy moth habitat, and the problems caused by its larvae during the periods of outbreaks are so great that they can lead to forest defoliation and forest health deterioration. In the Republic of Serbia, E. maimaiga was first recorded in 2011 (as a new species in the microflora of Serbia) during the gypsy moth outbreak (2009-2014), which was the last to date. In 2011, numerous dead caterpillars were found on and around trees in oak and beech stands of the Belgrade and Valjevo regions in Serbia. Subsequent laboratory analyses revealed that they contained azygospores and conidia of this fungus. The assisted introduction of E. maimaiga was carried out in Compartments 28 and 30 of the FMU Avala on Mt. Avala in 2011. It led to an epizootic in the following year and stopped the outbreak of the gypsy moth in the area. Since it has been seven years since the outbreak, we tested the viability and infectivity of E. maimaiga azygospores obtained from the soil samples from Avala Mountain where its assisted introduction was carried out. We used larvae from the laboratory gypsy moth population and applied the bioassay method. The results show that azygospores are present in the given soil samples, they are viable and their infectivity is conserved. It can be concluded that in the case of an outbreak of gypsy moth populations in the future, they will exhibit their entomopathogenic effect

Resumen
Concentrations of heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd) and long-lived radionuclides (U, Th, Cs) along the Iron Gate reservoir of the River Danube in Serbia were determined. In years 2005-2009, water and sediments were sampled at six sites along 200 km of the River Danube from Belgrade to Djerdap (Iron Gate) hydroelectric power plant. The concentrations of heavy metals in sediment were found to be in the intervals: 27.9-149.3 mg kg-1 for Cu, 55.2-228.4 mg kg-1 for Zn, 13.5-71.6 mg kg-1 for Pb , 0.3-25.2 mg kg-1 for Cd, and 4.0-17.5 Bq l-1 for 137Cs. These values are in correlation with concentrations in river water when expressed by the equilibrium coefficients (Kd) between solid and liquid phases. The behaviors of heavy metals were evaluated by applying models for the prediction of pollutants? behavior in rivers. The fluxes of heavy metals from water to sediment and vice versa were also determined.

Resumen
This article presents results obtained in the research conducted on railway infrastructure in Serbia, which aimed at prediction of substructure condition based on the analysis of track quality. It presents the results of seismic tomography application as non-destructive procedure for assessment of railway substructure condition. Track geometry quality was assessed according to analysis of longitudinal level data, which was recorded during regular track geometry inspections. Track section for application of seismic tomography was chosen on the basis of analysed track geometry data recorded during the regular track geometry inspections in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2014. Tomographic imaging of railway platform on Test Section enabled the creation of two-dimensional finite element model, which was used for determination of propagation speed of seismic P-waves. Seismic tomography on Test Section, which is the part of the international railway line Belgrade–Vrbnica, was performed in 2014. Obtained tomographic image was discussed and compared to track geometry data recorded during the regular track geometry inspections.

Resumen
Rabies is a disease that occurs both in animals and people, with relatively long period of incubation, intense clinical course and fatal ending. Majority of cases of illnes and death in people are caused by the standard rabies virus. According to books of regulations on suppression and eradiction of rabies from 1988. and 2009., each suspected rabies has to be laboratory confirmed. From 2006. to 2012. within the passive surveilance, 3549 samples of brain tissue were examined for the presence of rabies virus. The virus was confirmed in 923 samples by using the method of direct imunofluorescence. From 2006. to 2012. there were diagnosed 192, 160, 233, 181, 104, 43 and 10 positive cases, respectively. For the purpose of rabies eradiction at the territory of the Republic of Serbia, a regional project of oral vaccination of foxes against rabies has been implemented since 2010.Within monitoring of the effectiveness of oral vaccination against rabies which was carried out at the end of 2011. and at the beginning of 2012., there were examined 1385 samples, out of which 11 reacted positively. The virus was dominantly present in the fox population. During 2008. and 2009., a relatively large number of rabid cats was registered, what indicates a transmission of rabies from the fox to the cat population. The incidence of rabies at the territory of Serbia significantly differs from one epizootic area to another. Northern parts of the country (Sombor and Subotica epizootic regions) have more favorable situation with only two cases of rabies for the last 7 years. In the period until 2010., in Pozarevac, Novi Sad, Jagodina, Pancevo, Belgrade and Nis epizootic region, a gradual decline in number of positive cases was noticed. International project for oral vaccination of foxes against rabies which has been implemented at the territory of the Republic of Serbia and neighboring countries, influenced a significant reduction of registered rabies cases.

Resumen
The main purpose of this paper is to examine seasonal variations in mortality resulting from cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases and cancer, as well as to provide a review of environmental factors underlying such phenomenon. The herein presented study was conducted on the territory of Belgrade based on the data on daily mortality rates obtained from the Institute of Public Health in Belgrade for the period 2009-2014, as well as the data on annual mortality rates provided by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia for the period 2000-2014. The analysis of mortality variations was performed by the use of Theil-Sen method, smooth trend method and cubic spline interpolation, whereas desriptive tools, such as winter/summer ratio and dissimilarity index, were used to examine the seasonal pattern. According to the Institute of Public Health, over 113430 deaths were registered in Belgrade area for the period 2009-2014, out of which 53.25% is attributed to cardiovascular diseases, 4.01% to respiratory diseases and 27.50% to cancer. The annual mortality rates caused by cardiovascular diseases and cancer on the territory of Belgrade are among the highest ranking in Europe. The leading causes of death in the observed period included: cardiomyopathy, heart attack and stroke with accompanying complications, breast cancer in women, prostate and colorectal cancer in men, lung and bronchus cancer for both genders, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Cardiovascular and respiratory mortality rates are significantly higher among people aged 65 and over, whereas more than one third of deaths caused by cancer is observed among younger people aged between 45 and 64 years. Research results show that seasonal variations were most pronounced in mortality resulting from cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, with highest mortality rates recorded in February and March and lowest during the summer season. Also, the number of deaths due to cardiovascular diseases increased twice, namely at the end of June and October, which is assumed to be the result of sudden temperature changes. Nonetheless, no such seasonal variations were observed in mortality caused by cancer. Seasonal variations in mortality resulting from cardiovascular diseases also indicate gender differences, which is why sudden temperature changes in interim periods affect more women than men. As regards deseasonalized trend, mortality caused by cardiovascular diseases stagnates, while mortality caused by cancer and mortality caused by respiratory diseases records moderate to severe increase. This is a uniform trend in almost all municipalities in Belgrade, with average mortality rates being higher in central zones than in suburbs over the last 15 years, particularly mortality caused by cancer. A slight increase in the overall mortality can also be attributed to aging of the population, which cannot be verified due to lack of available accurate data on the average age structure of Belgrade population for the observed period. A better understanding of seasonal variations in mortality caused by chronic non-communicable diseases can contribute to improving the population health care and rising awareness of the population concerning greater health care in changeable weather conditions due to global warming and climate change. These findings can also enhance preventive action on environmental risk factors that are not limited exclusively to weather conditions, such as air pollution.

Resumen
In order to compare the efficacies of conventional (cholecalciferol and bromadiolone) and new (sodium selenite) rodenticides, applied in the grain bait formulation on the whole-grain of wheat (Triticum aestivum) and triticale (Triticasecale) in alfalfa crops, experiments were conducted at two sites near Belgrade, Serbia, in the spring of 2009, using a standard EPPO method. The presence of rodent populations, their spatial distribution and density indices were evaluated by pretreatment census and rodenticide efficacy by counting active holes, 14 and 28 days after treatment. The average Microtus arvalis numbers of 158/ha and 184/ha were found to cause 7.4% and 9.6% alfalfa green biomass yield decreases, respectively. Twenty-eight days after treatment, the average efficacy of grain bait formulation (on wheat and triticale grains) of sodium selenite and cholecalciferol was 81%, while bromadiolone which had a higher efficiency, 85%, in the control of the common vole in alfalfa crops. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed that the origin of active substances, bases and associated interactions a.s x based on the efficacy-investigated grain baits did not have a statistically significant impact on the expression efficiency of the tested baits. Triticale grains can be used as carriers of active substances, sodium selenite, cholecalciferol or bromadiolone in preparation baits. Control of M. arvalis with the new rodenticide, sodium selenite, gave efficacy results about equal to that of cholecalciferol and bromadiolone and, therefore, provided a possible alternative rodenticide for vole control in alfalfa.

Resumen
Adequate level of housing comfort, in terms of space, function and health, is one of the key factors of quality and sustainability of social housing. In post-socialist Serbia, the extremely residual system of provision in this sector has been a major challenge to achieve adequate quality standards for new social housing construction over the past two decades. Through a review of the national regulations in the field of planning, design and construction of social housing after 2000 and the results of the conducted empirical research on six completed projects (in Valjevo, Pančevo, Čačak, Kraljevo, Kragujevac and Belgrade), the paper discusses the situation, limitations and opportunities for improving current housing practices in this field. In the initial period of formation of the new housing system, through the recommendations for planning and design social housing was treated as below average standard and quality housing, but since 2009 its development through the legislative framework is increasingly directed towards the concept of sustainable housing development. At the same time, the results of the evaluation of the pioneering examples of practice in this area, realized in the period 2008-2010, indicate certain deficiency in terms of the application of sustainability criteria. Through a survey of tenants on satisfaction with various elements of housing comfort, the problems of overcrowding and inadequacy of housing conditions regarding functional and health aspects were observed in selected examples. It was found that the tenants are mostly satisfied with the level of thermal and light comfort in the apartments, while they expressed significant dissatisfaction due to the lack of auxiliary and open apartment areas, insufficient sound insulation and overall lower quality construction. In the concluding remarks, the results of the research are discussed and recommendations are given for the improvement of design standards and monitoring instruments in social housing programs in Serbia.

Introduction: Pelvic fractures represent approximately 3% of all skeletal injuries. About 15% of patients with pelvic fractures have associated bladder or urethral injuries. The most common causes of pelvic fracture are motor vehicle accidents, motorcycle crashes, motor vehicles striking pedestrians, and falls. Material and methods: Retrospective study included the patients treated in the Emergency Center, Clinical Center of Serbia, Belgrade, between 2000 and 2009. Of 7445 patients, there were 894 injuries of the urinary tract and 376 pelvic fractures; 55 patients with pelvic fractures (14.6%) had bladder or urethral injuries. There were 31 patients with bladder injuries, 22 patients with urethral injuries, and two patients with associated injuries of the posterior urethra and the bladder neck. Results: The bladder injuries were treated by surgical exploration, cystostomy, suture of the bladder lesions and urethral catheterization. Urethral injuries were treated by primary cystostomy and urethral reconstruction and catheterization in 18 patients (82%), while cystofix-cystostomy was performed in four patients (18%). Discussion: Genitourinary injuries increase overall mortality in patients with pelvic fracture, compared with traumas without associated GU injuries. These patients require multidisciplinary approach, preferably in tertiary institutions.

Resumen
During a survey of cucurbit viruses in the Gornji Tavankut locality (North Backa District), Serbia in June 2011, field-grown (a surface of 1.8 ha) watermelon plants (Citrullus lanatus [Thunb.] Matsum and Nakai) with mild mosaic symptoms were observed. Large numbers of Aphis gossypii were colonizing the crop. A total of 26 samples, six from plants exhibiting mosaic and 20 from asymptomatic plants, were analyzed by double-antibody sandwich-ELISA using polyclonal antisera virus (Bioreba AG, Reinach, Switzerland) against three cucurbit-infecting viruses known to infect Cucurbita pepo in Serbia: Zucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV), Cucumber mosaic virus, and Watermelon mosaic virus (3). Commercial positive and negative controls were included in ELISA analysis. Only six symptomatic samples tested positive for ZYMV, but no other tested viruses were found. The virus was mechanically transmitted from a representative ELISA-positive watermelon sample (550-11) to five plants of C. pepo ‘Ezra F1’ and severe mosaic was noticed 10 days after inoculation. For further confirmation of ZYMV infection, total RNA from a naturally infected watermelon plant and symptomatic C. pepo ‘Ezra F1’ plants were extracted with the RNeasy Plant Mini Kit (Qiagen, Hilden, Germany). Reverse transcription (RT)-PCR was performed with the One-Step RT-PCR Kit (Qiagen) using primer pair ZY-2 and ZY-3 (2). Total RNA obtained from a Serbian isolate of ZYMV from pumpkin (GenBank Accession No. HM072432) and healthy watermelon plants were used as positive and negative controls, respectively. The expected sizes of the RT-PCR products (1,186 bp) were amplified from naturally and mechanically infected symptomatic samples, but not from healthy tissues. The amplified product that derived from isolate 550-11 was purified (QIAquick PCR Purification Kit, Qiagen), sequenced in both directions, deposited in GenBank (Accession No. JN561294), and subjected to sequence analysis using MEGA4 software. Sequence comparisons revealed a high nucleotide identity of 99.9 to 99.8% and 100 to 99.6% amino acid identity for the CP gene with Serbian ZYMV isolates from C. pepo (Accession Nos. JF308188, HM072431, and HM072432). The nucleotide and deduced amino acid sequences of the entire CP gene (837 nt) of the Serbian ZYMV isolate from watermelon shared 99.9 to 93.7% and 100 to 96.8% identity, respectively, with innumerous isolates of ZYMV deposited in the GenBank (e.g., Accession Nos. AJ420012–17 and FJ705262). To our knowledge, this is the first report of ZYMV spreading its host range to watermelon in Serbia. ZYMV infection has been responsible for severe epidemics on cucurbits throughout the world (1). The presence of ZYMV on watermelon could therefore represent a serious threat for this valuable crop in Serbia, especially considering that it is prevalent in other cucurbit crops in the country and the vectors are widespread. Resumen
Over the last five decades the share of extramarital births in the total number of live births has been increasing in all European countries. This is also true for Serbia (excluding Kosovo), where the share of extramarital births in the period of 1950-2009 increased by 3 times (from 8.0% to 23.2%), and their number increased by a fifth (from 13,141 to 16,294). Women under 25 years of age and over 40-49 years have a substantially higher share in extramarital births than in the total number of births. Almost every second extramarital child's mother is younger than 25, and changes in the period of 1961-2008 developed in the direction of a decreasing share of women under the age of 30, and especially under 25, as well as an increased share of women above 30. According to the latest data, more than a half of extramarital children are first, although their share is decreasing. At the same time, the percentage of births of second and especially of third and higher orders is increasing. The share of extramarital births is increasing with all women, regardless of their education level. The highest and constantly growing share of extramarital births is recorded with women without education and the lowest share with women with university education. According to activity, the most represented are unemployed and dependant women, who also have significantly higher shares of extramarital births than employed women. From an ethnic aspect, it is noticeable that the highest and constantly increasing share of extramarital births is present with ethnic Roma women, which reached over four fifths of the total number of children born by Roma women in 2008. Among the ethnic Serbian women the share of extramarital births is significantly below the average for Serbia. According to the type of settlements the share of extramarital births is lower in urban than in other (non-urban) settlements, and in the largest urban agglomerations, including Belgrade, it is even below the average for Serbia. Some significant regional differences can also be noted - the zone of the high share of extramarital fertility is in the east of Serbia, while the zone of lower and medium fertility is in the west of central part of Serbia. It is assumed that future dynamics in the area of extramarital births in Serbia will develop in a manner similar to that of the last several decades. It can be concluded that this is not a phenomenon related to adopting new values and norms, but primarily a continuation of already present tendencies in an environment with traditional moral norms.

Resumen
Bacground/Aim. Almost 200 cochlear implantations were done in the four centers (two in Belgrade, per one in Novi Sad and Nis) in Serbia from 2002 to 2009. Less than 10% of implantees were postlingually deaf adults. The vast majority, i.e. 90% were pre- and perilingually profoundly deaf children. The aim of this study was to assess the influence of improved auditory perception due to cochlear implantation on comprehension of abstract words in children as compared with hearing impaired children with conventional hearing aids and normal hearing children. Methods. Thirty children were enrolled in this study: 20 hearing impaired and 10 normal hearing. The vocabulary test was used. Results. The overall results for the whole test (100 words) showed a significant difference in favor of the normal hearing as compared with hearing impaired children. The normal hearing children successfully described or defined 77.93% of a total of 100 words. Success rate for the cochlear implanted children was 26.87% and for the hearing impaired children with conventional hearing aids 20.32%. Conclusion. Testing for abstract words showed a statistically significant difference between the cochlear implanted and the hearing impaired children with hearing aids (Mann- Whitney U-test, p = 0.019) implying considerable advantage of cochlear implants over hearing aids regarding successful speech development in prelingually deaf children.

Resumen
Background/Aim. Antidepressants are a widely used class of drugs. The aim of this study was to investigate different aspects of antidepressant prescribing practice at University Psychiatric Clinic in Belgrade. Methods. This cross-sectional study was carried out by retrospective analysis of the patient's medical charts. The study included all patients with antidepressant prescribed at discharge during 2009 (n = 296). The evaluation was focused on patient- related factors (socio-demographic and illness related), psychiatrist-related factors (sex and duration of working experience) and drug related factors (type of antidepressant, dose, polypharmacy and reimbursement by national health insurance). Results. Antidepressants were prescribed for unipolar depression (F32-34, ICD X) either without comorbidity (46.2%) or with comorbidity (24.7%), mostly as a monotherapy (91% had one antidepressant), to the patients who were 65% female, aged 50.1 ? 8.9, most of them with 12 years of education (52.6%), married (69.3%) and employed (55.9%). The majority of patients had a history of two hospitalizations (Med 2; 25th-75th perc. 1-4) during nine years (Med 9; 25th-75th perc. 2-15) after the first episode of depression. Among them, 19% were found to be suicidal in a lifetime. The single most prescribed antidepressant was sertraline (20.4%), followed by fluoxetine (13.3%) and maprotiline (11.7%). Utilization of antidepressants was positively correlated with the rate of reimbursement (p < 0.01). The most prescribed antidepressant group was selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) (47.8%), followed by tricyclic antidepresants (TCA) (25.3%) and new antidepressants - venlafaxine, tianeptine, mirtazapine, bupropion, trazodone (15.1%). Most of the drugs were prescribed in doses which are at the lower end of the recommended dose-range. Regarding severity of the actual depressive episode, TCA were prescribed for severe depression with psychotic features, while SSRI were choice for episodes with moderate symptom severity (p = 0.01). Psychiatrists with longer working age (20-30 years) hesitated to prescribe new antidepressants in comparison to younger colleagues (p = 0.01). Conclusion. Economic issues in Serbia as developing country influence the choice of antidepressants, as well as a psychiatrist?s working age and severity of depression. However, SSRI are the drugs of the first choice, as it was shown in most of the developed countries nowadays.

Resumen
In 1994 two books were published - "A contribution to ethno-history of the Torlaks" by Kosta Kostić and "Torlak" by Vitomir Zivković, in which the authors, independent of each other, tried to revive the term the Torlaks in Pirot region in the broad sense. Both books caused some reaction. This paper gives evidence of these attempts at reviving the Torlak identity in the Pirot region and reactions to them. Data were collected mainly through interviews, during my fieldwork in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 (I carried out the interviews for my PhD thesis ‚The construction of the Torlak identity in Serbia and Bulgaria' which I defended on the Faculty of philosophy, University of Belgrade in 2014). The content of this paper shows the motives of the two authors and promoters of the book for affirming of this term, the influence of the books on the wider population's awareness of its own identity and the response of local intellectual circles to them. In specific, complex and very frustrating local-political and identity-wise circumstances, the responses were mainly negative. Even though the authors and promoters didn't intend to use the term in order to endanger either national identity, they were misunderstood: in Dimitrovgrad, the term was considered as an ill-intended attempt at undermining national Bulgarian identity and regional Shop identity, and, on the other hand, in Pirot, it was seen as a danger to Serbian national identity. Yet, there were individuals who considered the term as acceptable.

Resumen
Background. Hashimoto's encephalopathy (HE) is a rare autoimmune syndrome characterized by various neuropsychiatric manifestations, responsive to steroid treatment and associated with Hashimoto's thyroiditis. There are only a few reports suggesting that intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG) might represent an efficacious treatment modality for the severe steroid-resistant HE cases. We presented a patient with HE who developed a complete recovery after the IVIG therapy followed by a long-lasting remission. Case report. We described herien a female patient with the one-year history of autoimmune thyroiditis before the development of neuropsychiatric manifestations. In May 1999, a 38-year-old woman presented at the Institute of Neurology, Clinical Center of Serbia, Belgrade, with the brain-stem syndrome which responded well to steroid treatment. After detailed examinations, the diagnosis of Hashimoto's encephalopathy was established. Two years later, in June 2001, new manifestations (unsteadiness in gait, personality changes, seizures, and persistent headache) gradually developed during a 6-month period. Response to steroids was unsatisfactory and partial, since headaches and personality changes had continuously worsened. In January 2002, the patient received IVIG (0.4 g/kg body weight daily for 5 days). Gradual improvement was noticed and a complete recovery developed over the following weeks. Up to March 2009, during a 7-year follow-up period, remission persisted. Conclusion. To our best knowledge, this is the first report of a long-lasting remission of Hashimoto?s encephalopathy after IVIG therapy. Therefore, this case further supports administration of IVIG, as a potentially beneficial treatment modality, in severe cases of Hashimoto's encephalopathy which are completely or partially resistant to steroids.

Resumen
In August 2011, nectarine (Prunus persica (L.) Batsch var. nucipersica (Suckow) C. K. Schneid) fruit originated from Oplenac region with symptoms of fruit rot was collected at a green market in Belgrade. Fruit had large, brown, sunken lesions covered with grayish brown tufts. Symptoms resembled those caused by species of Monilinia including M. laxa, M. fructigena, or M. fructicola (2). In order to isolate the causal organism, small superficial fragments of pericarp were superficially disinfected with commercial bleach and placed on potato dextrose agar (PDA). The majority (32 out of 33) isolates formed rosetted non-sporulating colonies with lobed margins resembling those of M. laxa. However, one isolate (Npgm) produced an abundant, grayish-white colony with even margins and concentric rings of sporogenous mycelium, resembling those described for M. fructicola (2). Conidia were one-celled, hyaline, ellipsoid to lemon shaped, 7.38 to 14.76 × 4.92 to 9.84 μm, and borne in branched monilioid chains. The average daily growth on PDA at 24°C was 10.9 mm. A single-spore isolate of Npgm was identified as M. fructicola based on the morphology of colony and conidia, temperature requirements, and growth rate (2). Morphological identification was confirmed by an amplified product of 535 bp using genomic DNA extracted from the mycelium of pure culture and species-specific PCR for the detection of M. fructicola (2). The ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of rDNA of Npgm was amplified and sequenced using primers ITS1/ITS4. Sequence analysis of ITS region revealed 100% nucleotide identity between the isolate Npgm (GenBank Accession No. JX127303) and 17 isolates of M. fructicola from different parts of the world, including four from Europe (FJ411109, FJ411110, GU967379, JN176564). Pathogenicity of the isolate Npgm was confirmed by inoculating five surface-disinfected mature nectarine and five apple fruits by placing a mycelial plug under the wounded skin of the fruit. Nectarine and apple fruits inoculated with sterile PDA plugs served as a negative controls. After a 3-day incubation at 22°C, inoculated sites developed brown lesions and the pathogen was succesfully reisolated. There were no symptoms on the control nectarine or apple fruits. M. fructicola is commonly present in Asia, North and South America, New Zealand, and Australia, while in the EPPO Region the pathogen is listed as an A2 quarantine organism (3). In Europe, the first discovery of M. fructicola was reported in France and since then, it has been found in Hungary, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Spain, Slovenia, Italy, Austria, Poland, Romania, Germany, and Slovakia (1). Most recently, M. fructicola was found on stored apple fruits in Serbia (4). To our knowledge, this is the first report of M. fructicola decaying peach fruit in Serbia. These findings suggest that the pathogen is spreading on its principal host plants and causing substantial economic losses in the Serbian fruit production. References: (1) R. Baker et al. Resumen
Background:Patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) are treated in accordance with the 2016 ASAS / EULAR recommendations. Objectives:Determine our experience and results in the treatment of AS by analysing data from the URES database collected from reference centers for the treatment of rheumatic diseases in Serbia. Methods:Retrospective insight into the database of patients treated with biological therapy in reference centers (Institute of Rheumatology in Belgrade, Institute “Niska Banja”, Special Hospital Novi Sad, KC Vojvodina and KC Kragujevac) from 2009-2018. Disease activity was monitored by the BASDAI, BASFI and ASDAScrp indexes. Results:Of the 250 patients, 185 were male. The mean age at diagnosis was 33.02 ± 11.17 years. The mean length of treatment prior to initiation of biological therapy was 6.55 ± 7.82 years. There was a statistically significantly shorter duration of illness before the introduction of biological therapy in those who subsequently remained on the first drug (5.91 ± 7.53 vs 8.48 ± 8.48 years p = 0.046, p <0.05). The mean age at TNF alpha inhibitor administration was 39.61 ± 11.33 years. Patients who remained on the first drug were significantly younger when starting treatment with TNF inhibitors compared with patients who changed the first drug (38.75 ± 11.29 vs 42.46 ± 11.11 years p = 0.029, p <0.05). Those who changed the first drug were statistically longer treated with biological drugs (36.9 ± 30.03 vs 56.33 ± 32.4 months p = 0.0001). There were more patients with dactylitis and HLAB27 + in the group remaining on the first drug (p <0.05) and more with inflammatory bowel disease in the group who had the change in drug (p <0.05). The duration of etanercept therapy as the first drug was 49.11 ± 36.37 months, with the second drug 24.26 ± 27.08, and with the third drug 43 ± 45.2. Treatment with adalimumab as the first drug lasted for 28.34 ± 21.28, for the second drug 21.65 ± 14.57, for the third 3.5 months. Golimumab therapy as the first drug lasted 25.85 ± 14.58, with the second drug 20.33 ± 19.13, and as the third drug for 24 months. Therapy with infliximab as the first drug lasted 28.36 ± 23.52, with the second drug 20.3 ± 20.09, and with the third 16.5 months. According to the ASDAScrp index, 185 patients had very high disease activity (VHDA) before the first drug, high activity (HDA) 63, moderate activity (MDA) 2. At the time of the intersection, 8 had VHDA, HDA 48, MDA 106, and there were 88 patients in remission. There are 8 patients in the VHDA group who started treatment with the current drug less than 6 months ago. There are 48 patients in the HDA, of whom 17 who started treatment with the current drug less than 6 months ago, one at the time of the intersection had a urinary tract infection and high CRP, and the remaining 30 were patients with no significant decrease in ASDAS index (16 on first drug, 12 on the second drug and 2 patients on the third drug). Conclusion:In patients with AS who do not have a good response to the first anti TNFα drug, a good option to continue their treatment is to switch to the second and third drugs of the same mechanism of action (anti TNFα drug).KEY WORDS: ankylosing spondylitis, TNFα inhibitors, efficacyDisclosure of Interests:Tatjana Zivanovic Radnic: None declared, Jovana Cvetkovic: None declared, Biljana Erdeljan: None declared, Mirjana Veselinovic: None declared, Biljana Milic: None declared, Mirjana Sefik Bukilica: None declared, Nemanja Damjanov Grant/research support from: from AbbVie, Pfizer, and Roche, Consultant of: AbbVie, Gedeon Richter, Merck, Novartis, Pfizer, and Roche, Speakers bureau: AbbVie, Gedeon Richter, Merck, Novartis, Pfizer, and Roche, Jelena Vojinovic Consultant of: Roche, Abbvie, Pfizer, MSD, Speakers bureau: Roche, Abbvie, Pfizer, MSD

Resumen
Background/Aim. Besides viral serotype, HLA haplotype and cytokine genes polymorphism are associated with clinical presentation of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome. Since these analyses are unavailable in routine clinical practice, the aim of this study was to assess clinical, laboratory and radiographic findings associated with clinical presentation of disease severity. Methods. A total of 30 patients (27 men and 3 women), average age 40 ? 14.9 years, treated for hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome from January 1, 1999 to December 31, 2009 in Clinical Center of Serbia, were included in the study. Nine patients (30%) had mild, 14 (46.7%) moderate and 7 (23.3%) severe form of the disease; 24 (80%) recovered, 6 (20%) died in the acute phase of the illness, and 19 patients (63.3%) required hemodialysis. Results. The average titer of antiviral antibodies in patients infected with Belgrade serotype virus were significantly higher in those with severe clinical presentation. Hypotension, anuria, macrohaematuria, pulmonary infiltration, pleural effusion, hepatomegalia and positive meningeal signs were more frequent in the patients with severe form of the disease. Statistically significant differences between groups with mild, moderate and severe clinical picture were found in serum total protein, albumin, calcium, glutamate pyruvate and glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase on admittance; serum creatinine and phosphorus concentration on day 14 and day 21; serum sodium and calciums on day 14; hemoglobine concentration on day 21. A statistically significant correlation was found between clinical presentation of the disease severity and platelet count, white blood cell count, hemoglobine concentration, serum calcium and serum transaminases on admittance. Multivariate analysis identified variables` combinations associated with clinical presentation of the disease. Conclusion. Our study confirmed that we can distinguish patients who will manifest different severities of the disease on the basis of careful consideration of laboratory and clinical findings on admission.

Resumen
Background/Aim. Trabeculectomy is a safe procedure which effectively reduces the intraocular pressure (IOP). IOP is the most frequent indicator of success after glaucoma surgery. The aim of this work was to evaluate the long-term pressure control in primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and in pseudoexfoliative glaucoma (XFG) after primary trabeculectomy without the use of mitomycin-C (MMC), 3 to 5 years after trabeculectomy. Methods. This study involved a retrospective evaluation of 332 consecutive patients (352 eyes), 174 patients (188 eyes) with POAG (mean age of 64.0 ? 8.6 years) and 158 patients (164 eyes) with XFG (mean age of 70.7 ? 8.9 years) who underwent primary trabeculectomy between January 2007 and December 2009 at the Clinic for Eye Diseases, Clinical Center of Serbia in Belgrade. A successful control of IOP was defined as achieving IOP ? 21 mmHg without medication (complete success), or with a single topical medication (qualified success). Results. According to the type of glaucoma POAG/XFG preoperative IOP was 28.4 ? 6.3/30.4 ? 8.4 mmHg, respectively (p = 0.311) and last postoperative IOP was 16.9 ? 5.2/18.7 ? 5.9 mmHg, respectively (p = 0.681). According to the Kaplan-Meier survival curve, the complete success in the group with POAG in 1, 3 and 5 years were 85%, 75% and 58% and in the group with XFG were 82%, 70% and 56%, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference in the complete success rates between the patients with POAG and XFG. Conclusion. The primary goal of surgery was to achieve a sufficiently low IOP without additional medication, thus preventing progression of glaucomatous damage. In our study, the complete success in the group with POAG was achieved in 75% and 58% of the patients in the period of 3 and 5 years after surgery, respectively and in the group with XFG complete success was achieved in 70% and 56% of the patients respectively.

Resumen
Background/Aim. Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is an important indicator of patient condition following myocardial infarction. It may serve as a predictor of mortality and new hospitalization. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of selected sociodemographic and clinical characteristics with HRQoL in the Serbian cohort of patients with myocardial infarction with ST segment elevation (STEMI) that were treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI). Methods. Patients were recruited from the population of patients with STEMI who were hospitalized in the Clinical Center of Serbia in Belgrade, between 1st December, 2009 and 30th June, 2010. The study was conducted among 507 STEMI patients treated with pPCI. The HRQoL was assessed using the Questionnaire Short Form Health Survey (SF-36). Multivariate logistic regression models were used for each components score in order to determine independent predictors of HRQoL. Results. The patients with the lowest tertiles of Physical component score (PCS) and the Mental component summary score (MCS) were older, likely to be females, unpartnered, with a poor economic status, with diabetes, with prior myocardial infarction and with more extensive coronary artery disease. There were more employed and the individuals with smoking history in the group of patients with the higher scores. The characteristics of patients with lower PCS score were: the higher presence of hypertension, prior cerebrovascular insult and left anterior descending artery as infarct artery. This study demonstrated that HRQoL was significantly associated with patient?s age, gender, diabetes mellitus, a poor way of living and loneliness. Furthermore, the presence of previous cerebrovascular insult seems to affect the physical component score. Conclusion. Knowledge of predictors of HRQoL in the STEMI patients may provide indications for optimal treatment and anticipate their impact on the treatment outcome.

Resumen
Introduction. An altered perfusion of the optic nerve head has been proposed as a pathogenic factor of glaucoma. Objective. The aim of this study was to evaluate the changes of the hemodynamic parameters in the retrobulbar arterial circulation after decrease of the elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in women and men with primary open angle glaucoma. Methods. The study included 60 patients (33 males and 27 females) older than 50 years, with diagnosed and treated primary open angle glaucoma (77 eyes of 39 patients had increased IOP, >25 mm Hg). They were examined at the Clinic of Eye Diseases (complete ophthalmologic exam) and Clinic of Neurology, Clinical Center of Serbia, Belgrade, from December 2009 to December 2010. Imaging of hemodynamic parameters of three retrobulbar arterial vessels: ophthalmic, central retinal and posterior ciliary arteries with color Doppler was performed. Results. Among women, hemodynamic arterial parameter of the peak-systolic velocity was increased in the central retinal artery and decreased in the ophthalmic artery and posterior ciliary arteries; end- diastolic velocity was increased in all three retrobulbar vascular levels; Pourcelot resistivity index was increased, but pulsatility index was decreased in all three vessels. Among men, peak-systolic velocity, end-diastolic velocity and pulsatility index were decreased in all three vessels; resistivity index was increased in the ophthalmic artery, but decreased in the central retinal artery and posterior ciliary arteries. There was a significant change of the ophthalmic artery pulsatility index in women, and the end-diastolic velocity of the ophthalmic artery in men. Conclusion. There was a difference of the retrobulbar arterial circulation between women and men with primary open angle glaucoma after decrease of the elevated intraocular pressure. The role of vascular factors in the supply of the optic disc neuroretinal rim is important.

Resumen
Johnsongrass (Sorghum halepense (L.) Pers.) is a very common weed in maize fields in Serbia. Dense Johnsongrass infestations severely limit maize production, especially under continuous maize cropping. The key tool to manage this weed is to implement multiple control strategies when Johnsongrass is first observed and not to wait until it is firmly established. Experiments were conducted in the Maize Research Institute (MRI), Zemun Polje, Belgrade, in order to examine how economically driven continuous cropping of maize influences weed infestation, especially the distribution and abundance of Jonhsongrass, as well as maize productivity. The maize hybrid ZP 606 was grown in continuous cropping from 2009 to 2018 at a density of 59,500 plants ha-1. The experimental field was split into a part treated with the pre-emergence herbicide isoxaflutole + metolachlor (750 + 960 g a.i.) and untreated control. The level of complete weed infestation was evaluated 4-5 weeks after herbicide application by determining the number of weed individuals per species (NI), total fresh biomass (TB) and total dry weight (TDW) of all weeds and Johnsongrass fresh biomass (JB) and dry weight (JDW). Maize harvest index (HI) and grain yield (GY) were determined at the end of each growing period. All measured weed parameters were highly dependent on agro-meteorological conditions of the year, herbicide application and their interaction. On average, TDW was 760.7 g m-2 in the control plot, and 142.2 g m-2 in the treated plot, while Johnsongrass participated with 34.8% and 48.7%, respectively. Herbicide application reduced JDW by 77.6% on average, even though its biomass increased over the years. A regression analysis revealed that GY was negatively influenced by JDW (R2= - 0.094) in untreated control, while GY was higher with a lower JDW under herbicide treatment (R2=-0.4439). Continuous cropping of maize should be replaced with crop rotation in order to prevent Johnsongrass prevalence and to obtain higher crop productivity.
