Aim. To estimate the effect of novel lythium bis(µ-xylarato)dihydrogermanate (IV) (Xygerm-1) on reinforcing properties of the lateral hypothalamus self-stimulation in rats compared to the reference drugs (lithium chloride and valproic acid) in rats with amphetamine-induced self-stimulation. Methods. To form a model of the brain self-stimulation, nichrome monopolar electrodes were implanted bilaterally in the lateral hypothalamic nucleus, followed by morphological control, and 7-10 days after the operation, the rats were trained to press a pedal for electrical stimulation of the brain. Using a reversal design, it was shown that sensory stimulation decreased the participant’s self-hitting behavior significantly, both in intensity and in frequency. AbstractThis paper describes how the similia principle can be studied best in fundamental research. 2 questions are raised: ‘What is known about the regulatory principles at which homoeopathic treatment is directed?’ and ‘In what kind of conditions can these regulatory principles be studied best?’ The vision of Hahnemann and ideas related to the ‘field concept’ developed in this century are discussed. With respect to the first question, the phenomenon of ‘self-recovery’ takes a central position. The essence of homoeopathy is stimulation of self-recovery by application of the similia principle.

After device implantation and activation, it is patient-titrated based on symptoms. A sleep study then confirms effective settings based on an apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) below 5. Symptomatic control alone may not entail low AHI. Objective data with overnight oximetry during titration may help bridge this. This paper aims to present a practical training tool, performance templates (P-T), to demonstrate how a line manager may assist employees improve their problem-solving skills as well as stimulate SRL. Design/methodology/approach Presented are literature reviews and assessments of the areas of: line manager in coaching role, SRL theory and the phases of SRL in action. Follow

Background: Gait disturbances and balance remain challenging issues in Parkinsonian patients (PD) with deep brain stimulation (DBS). Short pulse deep brain stimulation (spDBS) increases the therapeutic window in PD patients, yet the effect on gait and postural symptoms remains unknown. Objective: We assessed the efficacy of spDBS compared to conventional DBS (cDBS) within the subthalamic nucleus (STN) on Parkinsonian gait. Methods: The study was a single-centre, randomized, double-blind, clinical short-term trial. 20 PD patients were studied postoperatively in three different conditions (DBS s

Peripheral magnetic stimulation has recently been introduced as a non-invasive but effective physical agent to improve muscle strength and everyday function. The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility and safety of an exercise program focusing on the abdominal muscles in combination with the peripheral magnetic stimulation of the abdominal muscles. Male and female overweight and obese adults (n = 19) participated in an eight-week exercise program with the additional peripheral magnetic stimulation of the abdominal muscles. Outcome measures included changes in abdominal subcutaneous

Introduction. There is a growing demand for more aesthetic, comfortable, and faster orthodontic treatments, and clear aligners emerged as a solution to fulfill this need. However, the effectiveness of clear aligners to treat complex malocclusions is yet contentious. The use of acceleration methods could improve the efficacy of clear aligners by stimulating cells' mechanobiology through numerous pathways, but this hypothesis is still poorly explored. Objective. We aimed to monitor the release profile of an inflammatory marker-the interleukin-1β-and to evaluate its relationship with self-reporte

Introduction DSM-5 defines non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) as socially unaccepted, direct, repeated and deliberate harm done to one’s own body. It is estimated that in a general population approximately 13-29% of adolescents present NSSI, and 70-80% among hospitalized youth. It seems that emotional dysregulation is the core characteristic of NSSI manifesting by self-harm behaviors, impulsiveness, lack of emotional awareness and experiencing high intensity of negative emotion. Emotional dysregulation is a pivotal characteristic of NSSI. Rationale of this theory is provided by the results of psy

Patients (PT) rate nausea & vomiting as the most feared chemotherapy-related symptoms. There is substantial evidence that P6 (located in the region in the middle of the wrist 3 finger breaths from the juncture of the hand & wrist) acupuncture is an effective antiemetic treatment in a variety of PT including the post-anesthesia, obstetrical, and motion sickness PT. We hypothesized that application of TENS at P6 point will reduce:1) the overall incidence of CINV episodes in

Previous research has shown that it is possible to use multisensory stimulation to induce the perceptual illusion of owning supernumerary limbs, such as two right arms. However, it remains unclear whether the coherent feeling of owning a full-body may be duplicated in the same manner and whether such a dual full-body illusion could be used to split the unitary sense of self-location into two. Here, we examined whether healthy human participants can experience simultaneous ownership of two full-bodies, located either close in parallel or in two separate spatial locations. Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is a palliative treatment for drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE) that has been in use for over two decades. VNS suppresses epileptic seizures, prevents emotional disorders, and improves cognitive function and sleep quality, a parallel effect associated with the control of epileptic seizures. The seizure suppression rate with VNS increases monthly to annually, and the incidence of side effects reduces over time. This method is effective in treating DRE in children as well as adults, such as epilepsy associated with tuberous sclerosis, Dravet syndrome, and Lennox–Gastaut

Schizophrenia is a chronic and relapsing disorder that is characterized not only by delusions and hallucinations but also mainly by the progressive development of cognitive and social deficits. These deficits are related to impaired synaptic plasticity and impaired neurotransmission in the nervous system. Currently, technological innovations and medical advances make it possible to use various self-regulatory methods to improve impaired synaptic plasticity. To evaluate the therapeutic effect of various rehabilitation methods, we reviewed methods that modify synaptic plasticity and improve the

In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in implantable stimulation electrodes for supporting and restoring neural functions, with ongoing development efforts aimed at their application in various areas such as vagus nerve stimulation (VNS), spinal cord stimulation (SCS), and gastric electrical stimulation (GES). The development of flexible and thin electrodes is crucial due to the delicate and uneven surfaces of tissues within the body. This is particularly important for thin nerves, which require full coverage and secure adhesion. However, soft and thin electrodes are difficult

Children with ASD exhibit auto-stimulatory behaviour of different types, with the most common behavioural problem being auto-stimulatory stereotyped behaviour. It is believed that vocal auto-stimulatory behaviour occurs because the individuals with ASD do not receive sufficient stimulation from their environment and therefore have the need to stimulate themselves by emitting vocal stereotypy of different form and magnitude. The participant is a 10-year-old boy diagnosed with ASD. The intervention used was a picture activity schedule. Results showed an immediate decrease in self-stimulatory beh
