Even though allogeneic stem cell transplantation is the most intensive treatment for acute myeloid leukemia (AML), chemo-resistant leukemia relapse is still one of the most common causes of death for these patients, as is transplant-related mortality, i.e., graft versus host disease, infections, and organ damage. These relapse patients are not always candidates for additional intensive therapy or re-transplantation, and many of them have decreased quality of life and shortened expected survival. There have been several reports of Parkinson's disease like symptoms being a side effect of Valproic Acid use. Valproic Acid is a drug prescribed for Epileptic seizures and also as a mood stabilizer. Despite the said reports of Parkinson's like side effects, several other studies had shown it to in fact be neuroprotective and perhaps therapeutic against PD in vivo. This review will center around these few studies, bring their results and ask for more experimentation to solve this issue of whether Valproic Acid triggers Parkinson's or perhaps triggers a healing from it. Valproic acid, a branched short-chain fatty acid, has numerous action mechanisms which turn it into a broad spectrum anticonvulsant drug and make its use possible in some other pathologies such as bipolar disorder. It is extensively metabolized in liver, representingβ-oxidation in the mitochondria one of its main metabolic route (40%). Carnitine is responsible for its entry into the mitochondria as any other fatty acid. Long-term high-dose VPA therapy or acute VPA overdose induces carnitine depletion, resulting in high levels of ammonia in blood. As a high correlation between salivary valproic

Valproic acid (VPA), a branched short-chain fatty acid, is widely used as an antiepileptic drug and a mood stabilizer. Antiepileptic properties have been attributed to inhibition of Gamma Amino Butyrate (GABA) transaminobutyrate and of ion channels. VPA was recently classified among the Histone Deacetylase Inhibitors, acting directly at the level of gene transcription by inhibiting histone deacetylation and making transcription sites more accessible. These AEDs include phenobarbital, primidone, phenytoin, and carbamazepine, as well as excarbazepine and topiramate in higher doses. On the other hand, enzyme-inhibiting AEDs, such as valproic acid, may amplify hematologic and other toxicities of chemotherapeutic agents (e.g., nitrosoureas or etoposide). Resumen
Introduction: Striatopathy or non-ketonic hyperglycemia is a rare etiology, but well reported in the literature, of involuntary movements in patients with diabetes mellitus, being characterized by affecting, in general, elderly patients with hemicorrea-hemiballismus. The aim is to report a clinical case of the development of movement disorder caused by hyperglycemia. Case report: Patient E.J.D.O, 71-year-old, male, hypertensive and dyslipidemic. Admitted to the emergency room with a history of involuntary movements in the upper left limb for about two months, with recent worsening. Upon admiss

Resumen
This research investigates the chemical composition, total phenolic and flavonoid content, and antioxidant activity of acetone, methanol, and ethanol extracts of the lichen Umbilicaria grisea, and its major secondary metabolite, gyrophoric acid. The extracts were analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC-UV) and spectrophotometric assays. The results showed significant levels of phenolic compounds and flavonoids, which contribute to the lichen’s antioxidant potential. The antioxidant activity was evaluated using in vitro assays such as DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activit

Resumen
Suppression of platelet aggregation by ASA limits the therapeutic use of this drug as an analgesic in patients with bleeding tendencies. CMT is a non-acetylated salicylate derivative with analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect similar to that of ASA. We compared platelet aggregation in human whole blood ex-vivo, three hours after ingestion of ASA and. CMT. Using a whole blood platelet counter, platelet aggregation was quantified by measuring the fall in the number of single platelets at peak aggregation in response to collagen (lμg/ml) arachidonic acid (AA, 0.5 mM) as well as spontaneous aggre

Resumen
Biologically active compounds decorated with dihydropyridine moiety are counted amongst the numerous broad-spectrum therapeutic agents that explain the increasing role of this scaffold in rational drug design [1]. The Biginelli reaction is a multicomponent reaction of aldehyde, (thio)urea, and ß-ketoester, involving Mannich reaction in the first step, which produces multifunctionalized 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2-(1H)-ones and related heterocyclic compounds [2]. The attractiveness of this acid-catalyzed one-pot condensation reaction lies in the simplicity of grafting the substituent into the struct

Resumen
The widespread use in modern medicine of hypnotics, sedatives, tricyclic antidepressants, antihypertensive drugs and antipyretics, even in therapeutic dosages, sometimes leads to adverse consequences for the patient. Accidental or intentional excess of therapeutic dosages leads to severe poisoning. This fact indicates the high relevance of doctors’ knowledge of any clinical specialty and the treatment of poisoning by these groups of drugs. This electronic educational resourse consists of six theoretical educational modules: poisoning with barbituric acid derivatives, acute poisoning with tricy
