Vanuatu is one of several Melanesian countries that has been consistently supporting the independence of West Papua. Vanuatu's stance is a form of Melanesian solidarity against colonialism that based on a regional value known as Melanesian Way. Introduced by Bernard Narokobi, a Papua New Guinean philosopher and poet, Melanesian Way brought by several students of Vanuatu that studied at University of Papua New Guinean. Pterodroma occulta was described by Imber and Tennyson in 2001 and tentatively named Vanuatu petrel. The first specimens of this bird were collected in Jan 1927, east of the island Mere Lava in Vanuatu (then New Hebrides), but their breeding grounds have remained unknown. After several exploratory visits to the Banks Islands I discovered a breeding colony of Vanuatu petrels on Vanua Lava in Feb 2009. Statements that this species breeds on Mere Lava were not substantiated.

We surveyed forest birds on 4 islands in Vanuatu from November–December 2014, including sites on Éfaté, Malakula, Gaua, and Vanua Lava Islands. Here, we summarize our survey results and place them into the context of prior ornithological surveys in Vanuatu. We recorded 44 species across all survey sites, including eight species endemic to Vanuatu and another 6 species endemic to the region of Southern Melanesia. We collected voucher specimens of 26 species and made 98 recordings of vocalizations from 24 species. Malakula was the most diverse site we surveyed with 35 native species. We observed

In the South Pacific, an increase in the frequency of climate hazards has resulted in worsened human and animal health outcomes, revealing the need for strengthened early warning to increase hazard preparedness. As Vanuatu is one of the most at-risk countries to natural disasters, an early warning system (EWS) for climate hazards is essential to support industries and communities. Notably, climate variability has been found to exacerbate communicable disease burden and compromise livestock health and productivity; however, forecasting of such hazards and their compounding effects has not been

The result of this research is the failure of Indonesian public diplomacy to shape Vanuatu political stance on Papua issue caused by the failure in optimizing the strategies of Indonesian public diplomacy. Save for those well-known concentrations in Australia and New Zealand, very few bullpup rifles can be found in Oceania. When a bullpup rifle turns up in the region, it is almost invariably an F88 variant of some sort—and most militaries and police forces in the region that use the F88 do so sparingly, more often equipping their primary forces with an AR-15-type rifle. There is one strange and fascinating exception to this rule: Vanuatu, an archipelago country of some 83 islands that equips its paramilitary forces with the French FA-MAS bullpup rifle. Additional work on the islands of Vanuatu has improved our understanding of the actual diversity of South Pacific coastal fireflies. Prior to recent fieldwork in Vanuatu, the only known lampyrid from Vanuatu was Atyphella aphrogeneia (Ballantyne), a coastal species also found in Papua New Guinea. After further examination, we determined that specimens from Vanuatu formerly classified as Atyphella aphrogeneia actually belong to an undescribed species. New species, Atyphella maritimus Saxton and Powell and Atyphella marigenous Saxton and Bybee, are described from specimens collected in Vanuatu.
