Resumen
STSDAS is a system of some 750,000 lines of code and documentation designed for the calibration and analysis of data from the Hubble Space Telescope. At its inception in 1981, when it was known simply as ‘SDAS’, the system was dependent on the VAX VMS operating system and architecture and was limited in scope to HST data analysis, excluding calibration. As it was realized that astronomers would want to be able to do their own calibrations of HST data, and that it was not cost-effective, either for end-users or for the software development effort, to have a system dependent on a proprietary operating system, the scope and objectives of the system were modified. The most fundamental change was the decision to fully layer the STSDAS software on the Image Reduction and Analysis Facility -IRAF – from the National Optical Astronomy Observatories. For a review of the historical aspects of the development of STSDAS, please see Hanisch (1989).

Resumen
It Is not practical to connect each controllable function of a WDXRF (Wavelength Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence) spectrometer separately to the laboratory computer. Therefore, a spectrometer controller is used to interface with the hardware control actuators which operate the selectable or settable components of the spectrometer system. The basic function of a controller is to receive sequences of orders from the computer and transmit the data which has been collected. More advanced controllers, such as the one used in the Siemens SRS-300 spectrometer, may perform many additional functions. In addition to handling spectrometer-to-lab computer communication, the SMP (Siemens Microprocessor controller) is capable of monitoring the state of the instrument, resolving conflicts in external or internal requests for action, and terminating spectrometer action which can be seen as hazardous or damaging to the instrument.

Resumen
NRCVAX is a complete system of programs, covering all aspects of crystal structure analysis from data reduction to the presentation of results. The system, which is written in a `neutral' Fortran 77, presently exists in two forms. The first runs on a VAX computer under VMS, on an 80386 PC under UNIX and under IBM VM/CMS and MVS/TSO. The second is an adaptation which runs on PC-XT, AT, PS/2 and comparable microcomputers under MS-DOS. The two versions differ somewhat in structure, but very little in code, operation or functionality except for the graphics. The many options of the programs can be selected in a highly interactive manner and because of this the system is very flexible. Most options are assigned default values, however, and it is usually safe to run the routines with a minimum of user input using the defaults. The system will accept data from a wide variety of sources and has interface routines for several other systems. Graphics in the VAX/UNIX version are based on the widely available Tektronix 4000 series protocol, while the microcomputer version supports most common display adapters. It is also possible to prepare files for a variety of plotters, dot-matrix printers and laser printers. Source code is distributed and it should not be difficult to adapt the system to any computer with virtual memory and a Fortran 77 compiler.

Resumen
Abstract The simplex method of function minimization is used to find the ray that follows the path of minimum time through an arbitrary three-dimensionally varying medium. The advantage of this method is that it is extremely fast, always converges, and lends itself to a variety of velocity parameterizations. The first step in the algorithm is to find the minimum time circular arc path between the source and receiver using an exhaustive search method. Then perturbations, consisting of a sum of N sine wave harmonics with their zero crossings at the endpoints, are made to the circular arc path. The simplex method searches for the amplitude coefficients that produce the path of least time. On a VAX-750 running the VMS operating system, the first arriving ray for a station receiver distance of 96 km is computed to an accuracy of 0.02 sec, computed in a southern California velocity structure using less than 26 sec of computer time. The required computer time decreases as the ray path distance decreases.

Resumen
The article presents a method for assessing the impact of radiated electromagnetic interference generated by a selected rail traction unit on the operational process of trackside video monitoring systems (VMS). VMSs operated throughout an extensive railway area are responsible for the safety of people and property transport processes. Emissions of radiated electromagnetic interference generated in an unintended manner by traction vehicles within a railway line lead to interference in the VMS operating process. Based on the knowledge of actual VMS operating process data, spectral characteristics and values of individual components of disturbing signals occurring in the emissions of radiated electromagnetic interference, it is possible to determine the parameters of damage intensities for the devices and elements of this system. Using that data enables determining the VMS reliability parameters within its operating system, for an extensive railway area. The article’s authors first discussed the basic issues associated with VMS, followed by analysing the topic’s current status. They also presented issues related to measuring interference radiated within a rail area, developed a selected operational process model, and determined selected operational indicators for the structures in question. The paper ends with conclusions.

Resumen
Well surveillance is a mandatory requirement for reservoir characterization and production optimization that every asset must aim for. To guarantee constant monitoring of a single well, installing conventional multi-phases flow meters systems is necessary. As an alternative way, this paper presents a Virtual Metering System (VMS) developed to estimate flow rates in oil wells with high water cut operating with electric submersible pumps as artificial lift systems. The VMS starts from a mathematical model based on production variables, well data, and pump performance curves to estimate fluids flow rates and water cut using a Newton Raphson Multivariate Method. The VMS was implemented in 11 wells in Quifa Field, Colombia. The VMS is constantly feeding by data from the PI System. The VMS results show a deviation of less than 3% in calculating the fluid flow rate and less than 5% in estimating the water cut.

Resumen
A command language interpreter (CLI) translates commands entered by the user into system actions. The shell is a specific type of CLI that was originally designed and used with UNIX operating systems. The author proposes to design and implement a shell-like CLI on top of the VMS operating system. The shell will enhance VMS features by providing an easier to use syntax and by providing features that are not currently available through VMS. These features include piping facilities and the ability to enter and/or reference multiple commands from a single command line. A language reference manual is provided with the J-shell. This manual explains the features and commands of the J-shell.

Resumen
An information management and mapping system combining a series of interactive computer programs for stratigraphic, lithofacies, paleogeographic, and structural analysis interfaced with a comprehensive database on subsurface geology produces contour maps of quantitative variables including structure maps, isopach maps, and maps of lithofacies parameters; detailed lithologic and stratigraphic logs; and printouts of lithofacies parameters for all levels of the lithostratigraphic subdivision. Users communicate by means of simple, on-screen, menu-driven dialogues controlled by FORTRAN programs. The system runs on DEC/Micro VAX II computers operating under VMS. This information management and mapping system for subsurface stratigraphic analysis is an integration of a comprehensive database on the subsurface geology of Israel and a series of computer programs for stratigraphic, lithofacies, paleogeographic, and structural analysis. Development of the system, referred to as "ATLAS -RELIANT," was sponsored by OEIL [Israel Oil Exploration (Investment) Ltd.). The system serves primarily as a storage and retrieval facility for information on the subsurface geology of Israel. Users can obtain printouts of lithologic and stratigraphic logs, contour maps, and value maps. The system originally was developed to run on a CDC machine under the NOS/BE operating system. Later OEIL expanded the database to include many additional items of information [inventory of cores and petrophysical logs, results of production tests, results of petrophysical analyses, geochemical analyses of recovered fluids (water samples and hydrocarbons), and results of quantitative analyses of petrophysical logs] and the system was modified to run on DEC/Micro VAX II computers under the VMS operating system (Shertok, 1969). Among other things, the ATLAS-RELIANT system was instrumental in the regional stratigraphic analysis of the subsurface geology of Israel performed by OEIL during 1968-1988 (OEIL, 1966; Cohen et al., 1990). The database, dubbed "ATLAS," is about 16 MB in size and contains information on 320 petroleum exploration and development boreholes, 50 deep water wells, and 100 columnar sections of outcrops.

Resumen
The purpose of the study. To showcase the growth of the region’s savings banks network during the period of Hungary’s capitalist development between the turn of the century and the World War I. Applied methods. Primarily data published in the financial almanac ‘Magyar Compass’ and newspaper articles of the time were sourced for the purposes of the study. Of financial indicators, balance sheet total and aggregate cash turnover figures were used. The study presents the accessible data of all the savings banks in operation at the time. Outcomes. By the end of 1912, various types of financial services had already been available in 28 Vas County settlements with 53 savings banks operating in the county. Their number was augmented by five branches and two affiliates. The savings banks furthermore established 17 disbursement points. This network of financial institutions was complemented by the Austro-Hungarian Bank (Osztrák-Magyar Bank, OMB) and two discount houses operating in Szombathely. The market district of Szombathely covered the whole county. While several larger microregional money markets were created, significant amounts were repatriated by Hungarians emigrating to America. Amidst all these changes, two banks’ bankruptcies made it known nationwide that the development of the local financial network was not without its failures.

Resumen
Combining the percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic decompression (PTED) with interspinous process distraction systems (ISP) may offer additional benefits in treating spinal stenosis in patients who have failed conservative treatment. We retrospectively investigated the medical records of 152 patients who underwent transforaminal endoscopic decompression with simultaneous ISP placement through the same incision. Patients were operated on from January 2008 to June 2016 and included 80 males, and 72 patients were females. Clinical data analysis was done on 142 patients two years postoperatively since ten patients were lost in follow-up. Primary outcome measures were pre-and postoperative visual analog scale (VAS) criteria and the Oswestry Disability Index. Only patients with a minimum follow-up of 2 years were included. The analysis included 224 patients who underwent interspinous spacers during the transforaminal endoscopic decompression. Of the 152 patients, 84 complained of axial facet-related pain syndromes versus the remaining 68 patients who chiefly complained of radicular symptoms. The postoperative VAS reduction at two year follow-up for the low back was 6.4. The patient-reported ODI reductions were of a similar magnitude at 40.4%. According to Macnab criteria, the percentage of patients who graded their surgical results as excellent or good was 90%. At two-year follow-up, 5 percent of patients required another operation to deal with failure to cure or recurrent symptoms due to implant subsidence. The authors concluded that adding an interspinous process spacer to the endoscopic decompression in patients treated for lateral lumbar stenosis and foraminal stenosis with low-grade spondylolisthesis might improve clinical outcomes by stabilizing the posterior column.

Resumen
This paper develops an efficient vision-based real-time vein detection algorithm for preclinical vascular insertions. Mouse tail vein injections perform a routine but critical step in most preclinical applications. Compensating for poor manual injection stability and high skill requirements, Vascular Access System (VAS) has been developed so a trained technician can manually command the system to perform needle insertions and monitor the operation through a near-infrared camera. However, VAS’ vein detection algorithm requires much computation and is, therefore, difficult to reflect the real-time tail movement during an insertion. Furthermore, the detection performance is often disturbed by tail hair and skin pigmentation. In this work, an effective noise filtering algorithm is proposed based on convex optimization. Effectively eliminating false-positive detections and preserving cross-sectional continuity, this algorithm provides vein detection results approximately every 200 ms at the presence of tail hair and skin pigmentation. This developed real-time tail vein detection method is able to capture the tail movement during insertion, therefore allow for the development of an automated Vascular Access System (A-VAS) for preclinical injections.

Resumen
Nowadays, most Cloud applications are developed using Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) or MicroService Architecture (MSA). The scalability and performance of them is achieved by executing multiple instances of its components in different nodes of a virtualization cluster. Initially, they were deployed in Virtual Machines (VMs) but, they required enough computational, memory, network and storage resources to hold an Operating System (OS), a set of utilities, libraries, and the application component. By deploying hundreds of these application components, the resource requirements increase a lot. To minimize them, usually small footprint OS are used. Later, as management tools were improved, the application components began to be deployed in Containers which require even less resources than VMs. Another way to reduce the resource requirements is integrating the application components in a Unikernel. This article proposes a Unikernel called MUK, based on a multiserver OS, to be used as a tool to integrate Cloud application components. MUK was built to run in user-space inside a Container of a Distributed Virtualization System. Both technologies facilitate the scattering of application components in a virtualization cluster keeping the isolation properties and minimal attack surface of a Unikernel.
