Resumen

In the wake of the closing of the MRI and its Brief Therapy Center, the author remembers its founders, Richard “Dick” Fisch, John Weakland, and Paul Watzlawick. Starting with Fisch's description of the beginning of the Center, the author goes on to describe his three kinds of interventions: planned, procedural, and of opportunity. Watzlawick's question about the disadvantages of change is given as an example of a procedural intervention and is explained with case examples. Weakland's many forms of challenging beliefs are presented as interventions of opportunity, and several case examples are given to illustrate this technique.

Resumen

The scientists as Bateson, Watzlawick expresses the determining role of interaction in the axiom of the “impossibility of not communicating”. All behavior (verbal and nonverbal) occurring between persons who are conscious of each other's presence has behavioural effects, whether intended or not. Such effects have interpersonal message value, and thus are communicative in nature. Since it is impossible for humans not to behave in one way or another, it follows that in interaction it is impossible not to communicate (Bateson, 1963; Watzlawick et al., 1967). Communication theory is relatively new as science and interacts with the other disciplines of sciences. During its development some of the notions were used that were already committed and comprehensive. This article aims to present some of them. Terms as system, input, output, feedback, entropy specific to scientific disciplines as systems theory, cybernetics, information theory, physics, are especially used in communication theory.

Resumen

Abstract The notion of therapeutic communication was spread mainly by Paul Watzlawick. He is building on antique roots and argues that the working principles are known since the antique and were wide spread in the art of healing. The famous statement of the sophist Antiphon from Athena »I can heal the sick with words« Watzlawick explains in the context of rhetoric and he refers explicitly to the »somatic rhetoric« of Quinitilian and his Instituto Oratoria. For a better understanding of this statement the Socratic art of speech will be introduced practically, which shows itself in contrast to the rhetoric of sophism: as talk room of truth in opposition to a talk room of method. Even the giving of a remedy is indispensably connected with the dialog between the physician and the patient and only in this combination a catharsis is enabled. The working principles of the therapeutic communication relate to all areas of rhetoric, that means not only inventio, dispositio and elocutio but also actio and pronuntatio as well as the whole context of speech.

Nesse artigo, analisamos o dispositivo conversacional proposto no âmbito da campanha de sensibilização sobre segurança online e vazamento de imagens íntimas da Unicef-Brasil e do Facebook, no qual internautas podem interagir com um chatbot chamado Fabi. A partir de uma abordagem pragmática da comunicação, nós estudamos as características da narrativa supostamente baseada em experiências pessoais contada pelo bot e ainda os aspectos interativos, levando em conta os princípios de circularidade e de equifinalidade associados às interações humanas (WATZLAWICK et al., 1992). Nosso objetivo é de analisar a utilização de chatbots para a construção de uma “narrativa conversacional” com propósito persuasivo.

Al respecto, es necesario entender que la familia no surge de la procreación, sino que es producto de una interacción sostenida de individuos, la cual genera relaciones con una estabilidad relativa, que surge en un momento dado, por un proceso de auto organización (Najmanovich, 2006).

Resumen

This paper describes the development and reliability assessment of the Caring Nurse Observation tool (CNOT), which includes measures of verbal and non-verbal caring interactions. Using Watson caring and Watzlawick communication theories, observable indicators of caring were selected. After a content validity assessment, the 43 indicators of the tool were tested for inter-rater reliability using both role-playing and real-life nurse-patient interactions. Mean inter-rater agreement was 38% and 41%, respectively, in the two datasets, indicating reliability of the tool. the CNOT will aid nurses to document and demonstrate the impact of caring attitudes on health outcomes in research and clinical practice.

Resumen

En el siguiente artículo se presentará el análisis de los Axiomas de la Comunicación propuesta por Paul Watzlawick, Janet Beavin y Don Jackson en su libro Teoría de la Comunicación Humana (1985), y su relación con la Terapia Familiar Sistémica. El enfoque de la investigación fue cualitativo y se privilegia la estrategia documental. Los resultados se presentan en dos categorías: Axiomas de la Comunicación y Terapia Familiar Sistémica. Finalmente se concluye que la Terapia Familiar Sistémica y los Axiomas de la Comunicación Humana tienen como punto común la teoría sistémica y las interacciones humanas, y que el quehacer del terapeuta sistémico no sería posible sin el uso de los axiomas de la comunicación.

Present relations between the leadership teams of the Governments of Quebec and Ottawa may be interpreted by applying the axioms of communication pragmatics as formulated by Paul Watzlawick and his associates in drawing upon the ideas of Gregory Bateson. These axioms and other strategie considerations provide the basis for a game theory of politics that is itself applied to the debates between the leadership teams of Ottawa and those of Quebec. In the game theory of politics, primary concern is focused on tactical possibilities rather than on the usefulness of outcomes. Herein lies the relevancy of the idea of strategie move which has been introduced and developed by Schelling in order to render the theory of games more appropriate for the study of concrete situations.

Resumen

O presente artigo tem como objectivo reflectir sobre o papel da comunicação no exercício da parentalidade, atendendo aos desafios, especificidades e transversalidades familiares. A literatura teórica destaca a efectividade desta relação, surgindo o Modelo da Pragmática da Comunicação Humana (Watzlawick, Beavin, & Jackson, 1967/1993) como importante suporte para a compreensão da interacção entre estes dois conceitos. Em termos empíricos, verifica-se a existência de diversos estudos sobre a relação da comunicação parento-filial com outras variáveis, nomeadamente, o sexo de progenitores e filhos, a etapa do ciclo vital da família e a tipologia/composição familiar. Desta forma, pretende-se aprofundar o conhecimento sobre uma dimensão da parentalidade tão influente, como é a comunicação, para o bem-estar relacional entre pais e filhos.

Este artigo explora alguns pressupostos da semiolinguística de Charaudeau (2009; 2010; 2011; 2016), de forma a colocá-los em interface com conhecimentos acerca das emoções (DAMÁSIO, 2000; EKMAN, 2011; MAURANA, 2009) e do dialogismo sistêmico (BATESON, 1987; WATZLAWICK et al., 2007). O objetivo é identificar e analisar as correspondências entre as visadas patêmicas do discurso e os acionamentos emocionais que constituem a pragmática da comunicação humana. Acredita-se que tais interfaces possam lançar um olhar sistêmico sobre o fenômeno dos discursos divisivos (BENESCH, 2012). O corpus de análise é constituído por uma postagem do MBL publicada no Facebook sobre o assassinato da vereadora carioca Marielle Franco. A pesquisa é descritiva, bibliográfica, com abordagem qualitativa. Como resultado, tem-se que as estratégias discursivas categorizadas por Charaudeau (2010) encontram correlatos entre as funções homeostáticas das emoções de Damásio (2000), lançando novas compreensões sobre a eficácia e o efeito viral dos discursos divisivos.

33 mother-child dyads with an obese child (aged 9 to 12 years) and a similar control group were studied. The power interaction was used as an indicator of the style of the relationship between mother and child. To analyse the interactions the model of Watzlawick, Beavin, and Jackson was used because it considers three different possible situations of complementarity, symmetry, and parallelism. A revised version of the Scoresby Relationship Style Inventory was given. Analysis showed that dyads with obese children differ in some ways from the control dyads. These differences include the mother's dominant position in the relationship and the tendency of the obese child to avoid conflict and symmetry and to adopt a ‘one-down’ complementary position. We conclude it is important to improve the study of childhood obesity from a systemic perspective and to extend this analysis to other aspects of the complex familial picture to prevent overweight or to maintain it within reasonable limits thereby avoiding more serious complications.

The increased attention being given to the potential of brief therapy and short-term counseling underscores the importance of the issue of pragmatism in Christian counseling. In their well-known book Change: Principles of Problem Formation and Problem Resolution (1974), Watzlawick, Weakland and Fisch note the similarity between their four-step paradigm for brief therapy and the Four Noble Truths of Buddhism. Since original Buddhism is preeminently pragmatic this comparison furnishes the occasion for an examination of pragmatism in general and brief therapy techniques in particular. This examination leads to the conclusion that in spite of the obvious similarities between brief therapy and original Buddhism, there is the profound difference that the latter does concern itself with the root cause of the human dilemma while brief therapy professes no interest in causal factors. The comparison, then, encourages Christian counselors to look beyond pragmatism and, in doing so, to recognize both the potential and the pitfalls inherent in counseling on the brief therapy model.

Information and knowledge have never been produced so rapidly. Production that finally does not communicate, nor does it act, nor does it have the positive effects that are desired of transference to society. Hyperactivities, fascism, various pathologies, and contradictions, went into such an enterprise. And along with the most daring technological and scientific advances, an unmentionable barbarity is advancing in an overwhelming way. The planetary dangers that result from this production that is not communicated and which we often only become aware of do not cease to threaten us every day and insistently knock on the door. An ambiguous and dangerous global context makes us recover a hypothesis that is more than fifty years old. Proposed by Bateson with a very wide reach the concept of "double bind" helps us to think the relationship between education knowledge and politics.ResumoNunca se produziu tanto e tão aceleradamente informação e conhecimento. For most of its history, information has moved between world regions and along the routes according to the rationales established by interregional trade and migration. The dematerialization of telecommunication in the late eighteenth and nineteenth century eventually detached long-distance information transmission from transport and transformed the global communication structure. New communication centres (and new peripheries) emerged. Some regions moved closer to the global data stream than others. It is still unclear how such different degrees of global connectivity impacted on local development. This essay contributes to the identification and valuation of global communication centres and peripheries in order to provide suitable candidates for future case studies. To this end, statistical data on the development of domestic telegraph networks in selected countries has been analysed and interpreted. In a second step, Social Network Analysis methods have been employed to measure the centrality of almost three hundred cities and towns in the European telecommunication network of the early twentieth century.‘You cannot not communicate.’Paul Watzlawick

Resumen

A relação direito e mudança social vive mitos que vão desde a busca pela origem do direito na sociedade até a identificação da função social do direito. Pensar esses temas desde a causalidade nos leva ao paradoxo do controle, como a liberdade vigiada. Desligados dessas preocupações mitológicas, pesquisamos a relação direito e sociedade desde a tomada de decisão jurídica com o objetivo de observar a convivência direito e mudança social. Uma vez definido o corpus da pesquisa, os dados coletados são sistematizados e analisados desde a Pragmática da comunicação, com Paul Watzlawick, o dialogismo, com Mikhail Bakhtin, e a teoria dos sistemas de sentido, com Niklas Luhmann. Sendo nosso objeto a produção de sentido do direito desde a tomada de decisão de tribunais, objetivamos demonstrar que a produção e mudança de sentido dos institutos jurídicos não resultam do arbítrio nem da discricionaríedade, pois direito, como forma de comunicação da sociedade, age e reage com autonomia funcional. Os dados são coletados em sites de Tribunais Brasileiros. As temáticas já investigadas foram: igualdade; videoconferência; flexibilização da coisa julgada; homoafetividade. O resultado, ainda que parcial das pesquisas nos permitem observar que o direito não é imune às mudanças sociais > pois a decisão judicial ao mesmo tempo em que estabelece sentido, promove mudanças no direito da sociedade.

INTRODUCTION: The reflection about the elements of communication that health professionals use strengthens the empathic relationship and therefore the actions that seek self-care in patients. Nursing schools must teach how to acquire competences from what should be (moral) to fully consider the emotions and needs of hospitalized children so that they can attend to the call of care. Nursing should tend to social and communication skills to offer a humanized care when children appeal to crying, to silence, to play, to attract attention. OBJECTIVE: Propose a framework of moral management of communication from the design of a functional communication structure model for the pediatric patient to come to the call of their care in a positive way. METHODOLOGY: Nature of qualitative study of descriptive type and symbolic interactionism (perceptual regression). The population was 44 nurses. The data was obtained by interviews analyzed by the STATGRAPHICS XVII Centurión Plus® and Atlas Ti 8.0 ® programs. CONCLUSION: The practices of nurses respond to the dynamics so that the child comes to the care when they are aware of the purpose of communication in strengthening the moral development of the child. A model of functional communication structure for pediatric patient care adjusted to the axioms of Paul Watzlawick is proposed.

Resumen

O presente artigo apresenta o desenvolvimento da Ciência Crítica da Educação (Kritische Erziehungswissenschaft) a partir do final dos anos sessenta do século passado. Tal percurso não foi uma evolução simples, ocorreu em várias etapas e passou por diversas mudanças determinadas por diferentes autores e discussões teóricas no contexto tradicional da Teoria Crítica. Entre os fundadores do programa original da Ciência Crítica da Educação na Alemanha encontram-se Herwig Blankertz, Klaus Mollenhauer e Wolfgang Klafki. As primeiras abordagens partiram da auto-crítica da Pedagogia das Ciências Humanas (Geisteswissenschaftliche Pädagogik) e dos trabalhos teórico-científicos de Jürgen Habermas. Durante as décadas de setenta e oitenta do século passado, foram desenvolvidas algumas novas variantes teóricas da Ciência Crítica da Educação, que tinham como referência alguns trabalhos de Habermas, mas também incluíram outros aportes, como a teoria da comunicação de Paul Watzlawick et al., o Interacionismo Simbólico de George Herbert Mead, as teorias cognitivas de Jean Piaget e de Lawrence Kohlberg. Desde os fins dos anos oitenta do século passado, a Ciência Crítica da Educação é fortemente influenciada pelos escritos cépticos de Max Horkheimer e Theodor W. Adorno, do que resulta uma nova orientação que funda os alicerces da Ciência Reflexiva da Educação (Reflexive Erziehungswissenschaft). O artigo conclui que o conceito de Ciência Reflexiva da Educação, no contexto atual, parte da premissa de que a Ciência Crítica da Educação apenas se sustenta como ciência reflexiva e interdisciplinarmente orientada.

As organizações têm vindo a sofrer diversas alterações, sendo que a forma como os indivíduos são vistos passou de uma perspetiva de mão-de-obra ou trabalhador para uma abordagem de colaborador. No seio de uma organização, todos os indivíduos comunicam naturalmente entre si, tornando-se impossível não comunicar. A presença dum indivíduo, só por si, já transmite uma mensagem para o mesmo ou para os outros. Mesmo quando nada é dito, está-se a transmitir que não se pretende comunicar, e esta ação só por si já se traduz em comunicação. Relativamente à definição de comunicação, opomos uma definição mecanicista, que essencialmente se resume a um indivíduo que emite a mensagem a outro através de um canal (modelo de Jakobson, 1969) a um modelo de orquestra, no qual a comunicação é definida por relações interpessoais que se estabelecem em contextos sociais (Goffman, 2002; Watzlawick, 2011). A par destas mudanças, a atuação dos colaboradores no interior das organizações tem sofrido alterações, reconhecendo-se a importância da motivação dos mesmos para o sucesso da organização. Por seu turno, estudos recentes relacionam a qualidade da comunicação organizacional com o êxito organizacional, que, por sua vez, também está relacionado com a motivação dos colaboradores. Existem diversas teorias motivacionais, que essencialmente se dividem em três grandes grupos: conteúdo, processo e resultado. Em síntese, a organização é composta por indivíduos que comunicam entre si e criam relações. Estas relações são fundamentais para se poder falar em motivação, pois dificilmente alguém consegue estar motivado se não se sentir bem no seu local de trabalho. O principal objetivo deste trabalho é a apresentação dos resultados da leitura crítica de bibliografia de fundamentação teórica para o estudo da relação entre a comunicação interna das organizações e a motivação dos colaboradores.

Resumen

The article studies the main ideas of constructivist pedagogy and their influence on contemporary culture. The attention is focused on such issues as methodology of the learning process in pedagogy of constructivism. This problem is examined in the context of modern education. The author studies the links of pedagogy and constructivism with philosophical constructivist concepts (P. Watzlawick, H. Maturana and F. Varela). The author examines the positive and negative aspects of the constructivist methodology in the sphere of modern pedagogy. The analysis of constructivist pedagogy shows the semantic content of such principles of constructivism, as the specificity of the learning process as a process of constructing meanings, and problem-based learning, communicative approach to learning. Based on this, the study focuses on the understanding of the interaction of teacher and student in the learning process. The author pays special attention to the fact that according to the constructivist pedagogy the main subject of the process of education is not a teacher, but a pupil. This idea significantly transforms classical model of hierarchical learning. Thanks to the constructivist methodology, the author describes effective teaching methods in contemporary culture. It is noted that important components of the learning process in constructivism is the formation of motivation of the student, as well as a relaxed and creative approach to the learning process of the teacher. The author highlights a problem such as understanding learning as complex process of social interaction of a teacher and a pupil. This process forms value meanings tailored to the specific situations faced by the student. As necessary components of constructivist models of teaching the author highlights the practical orientation of the learning process, and changing requirements for teacher, which is understood in constructivist pedagogy not as much a mentor, but as a moderator of the learning process.

Abstract Every communication has a relationship aspect in addition to a content aspect: this axiom of Watzlawick’s Pragmatics of Human Communication proves useful also when studying the dialogues contained in literary works. The ἀγαθός περ ἐών formula occurring five times in Homer’s Iliad has appeared difficult to interpret precisely because scholars have failed to take into account the relationship aspect of the verbal interactions described. Employed as a conventional politeness formula manifesting respect for the hearer, the ἀγαθός περ ἐών expression could also be used in contexts that clash with a ‘polite’ interpretation, thus generating mock-politeness and, ultimately, ‘impoliteness’.

Some comments on building the sender–recipient relationshipThis article discusses the problems of modern language communication associated with setting up contacts between the listener and the speaker. The author analyzes the communicative model of four ears, which was proposed by the German psychologist Friedemann Schultz von Thun for the interpretation of speech messages, and Paul Watzlawick’s five axioms of communication. Несколько комментариев к проблеме построения контакта между говорящим и слушающимВ настоящей статье рассматриваются проблемы современной языковой коммуникации, связанные с построением контактов между слушающим и говорящим. Resumen

El siguiente artículo sustenta la interpretación entre la noción de cambio 1 y cambio 2 de Watzlawick, Weakland y Fisch en la Terapia Familiar Sistémica. El enfoque usado fue cualitativo, con abordaje hermenéutico, favoreciendo la gestión documental. Los resultados se presentan en tres categorías: cambio 1, cambio 2 y Terapia Familiar Sistémica. La técnica de suscitar información fue la revisión bibliográfica. La muestra compendiada para la elaboración del trabajo fue de cincuenta textos. La investigación arroja que las características que rigen la noción de cambio1 y cambio 2 propuesta por Watzlawick, Weakland y Fisch son aplicables en la Terapia Familiar Sistémica, en donde el cambio 1 es patinar en más de lo mismo y el cambio 2 acontece espontaneo, como un salto ilógico que reestructura el sistema. ResumenLa investigación tuvo como objetivo identificar aspectos de la comunicación patológica presentes en las experiencias de celos de tres sujetos que viven una relación de pareja; para lo anterior se utilizó el análisis de contenido con la técnica de entrevista a profundidad, donde se codificaron aquellas partes del discurso de los sujetos en que se manifestaba la presencia de comunicación patológica en función de cada uno de los axiomas presentados en la teoría de la comunicación humana propuesta por Watzlawick (1986). Dentro de los principales resultados se encontró que la mayor parte de producción de comunicación patológica presente en los celos se genera desde el axioma de La puntuación de la secuencia de los hechos, donde el conflicto está presente en función de las profecías autocumplidas y el fenómeno de la causa y efecto.Palabras clave: celos, comunicación patológica, teoría de la comunicación humana. AbstractThe research aimed to identify aspects of pathological communication present in the experiences of jealousy of three subjects who live a relationship, for this purpose the content analysis was used with the in-depth interview technique, where those parts of speech of the subjects in which the presence of pathological communication was manifested according to each of the axioms presented in the theory of human communication proposed by Watzlawick, Beavin & Jackson (1985). Among the main results, it was found that the majority of the production of pathological communication present in jealousy is generated from the axiom of the sequence of events, where the conflict is present based on self-fulfilling prophecies and the phenomenon of the cause and effect.Keywords: jealousy, pathological communication, human communication theory.
