Small-scale fisheries account for 94% of the Greek fishing fleet. The sector consists mainly of family-owned vessels and highly depends on family labor. While the role of women as crew members is of particular interest, there is little evidence of their actual employment status, labor situation, and contribution in the fishing activity. This paper focuses on women in small-scale fisheries in order to investigate their role in the sector and reveal their contribution to fishing enterprises. In addition, it implements a comparative analysis to investigate the differences in various socio-economic indicators in small-scale vessels with and without female crew members. The results indicate that the presence of women has a positive outcome on several social and economic indicators that reflect the wealth of both fishing households and employees. In terms of employment, several differences in the structural characteristics appeared regarding the onshore employment, the share of unpaid labor, and the total hours worked. The majority of female crew members can be characterized as “fisherwomen,” since fishing is their main occupation. Further in-depth research to investigate the family relations among crew members and how they affect the fishing enterprise can supplement the existing research.

The article substantiates that in order to ensure the effective development of economic systems, the issues of rational use of natural resources and environmental safety are significant. Environmental problems for modern economies of the world are systematized. The aim of the research is to study the theoretical and practical experience in the formation of an inclusive society and the “green” economy of the regions in the Republic of Belarus based on the analysis of the mechanism for introducing circular technologies at the micro level, schemes for engaging vulnerable groups of the population, creating “green” jobs, creating courses on the principles of inclusion economy in the workplaces. The following tasks were set and resolved: the mechanism for the formation of the inclusive society and the “green” economy in the Republic of Belarus was identified through the introduction of circular technologies at the micro level; considered the features of involvement in employment of vulnerable groups of the population; identified and systematized features of creating “green” workplaces; specificity of courses for on-the-job training on the principles of inclusion and “green” economy is grounded. The research methodology is based on the principles of systems analysis, formal logic and an interdisciplinary scientific approach. Monographic and descriptive method was used in the formation of theoretical and practical basis for development an inclusive society with elements of the “green” economy; method of analysis and synthesis, method of statistical data analysis in the short-term analysis. The novelty of this research lies in the fact that the theoretical and practical foundations for building the inclusive society through the tools of the “green” economy and education have been studied and scientifically grounded. The conclusions are that the creation of “green” jobs, learning the principles of a “green” economy, as well as the implementation of other measures to ensure the sustainable development are necessary. And development of inclusive society and “green” economy depend on ability of government and firms to teach their basic principles and create inclusive and “green” workplaces and jobs. As recommendations it is proposed to involve older labor resources in employment, taking into account coordination of the vocational qualification structure of labor supply and technical and technological parameters of workplaces; to assess development of the international labor market and sustainable development of the labor market with created by authors list of indicators; to develop an electronic web resource with information about the skills of the workforce, indicating the geography of workplaces and schemes for building up the necessary skills contributes to the advance preparation of the workforce; and to organize and conduct courses for employers and employees in the field of inclusive development and “green” jobs.

This paper seeks to explore environmental, social and governance issues arising from investment in special economic zones (SEZs) in the mainland Southeast Asian region through a mixture of thick analytical description and multiple case study approach. All the states studied here have embraced the SEZ approach as it offers rapid economic development without any implications for the political settlement, which is considered beneficial by current administrations. Particular emphasis is placed on environmental, social and governance issues in the region covered and some complex issues that have emerged. It is shown that the situation is complex and continually evolving and that there are limited constraints on the actions of corporations. Consequently, there is an opportunity for investors to set precedents and protocols on a progressive basis. There are many potential determinants of women?s labour supply including wages, unearned income, human capital endowments, demographic characteristics and family traits. Fertility behaviour, including the number of children and age of children, is also an important factor in women’s labour supply decisions. Many factors which affect women’s decisions on participating in the labour market and hours of work are also key influences on their decisions on starting a family and having a desired number of children. This thesis provides a comprehensive analysis of the determinants of labour supply and fertility behaviour of Australian women. Using cross-sectional data, labour supply models corrected for sample selection bias, and fertility models examining different aspects of family size, the thesis finds that women’s labour supply decisions are largely influenced by their wages and fertility behaviour. Their decisions on completed fertility, starting a family and having additional children are largely influenced by their actual or potential wages.

Conventional interpretations of WWII hold that the war brought the United States out of the Great Depression and laid the path for future economic prosperity. However, this was not the case for all businesses and industries. During WWII, unprecedented production output was required of U.S. industries to supply the great “Arsenal of Democracy.” Industrial mobilization required the creation of new agencies and commissions to manage the nation’s resources. These organizations created policies that deeply impacted U.S. industries involved in war production. Policies governing such areas as the allocation of raw materials, transportation of finished goods, and distribution of war contracts created challenges for businesses that often resulted in lost productivity and in some cases, loss of profitability. Government regulation of the labor force and labor problems such as labor shortages, high absenteeism and turnover rates, and labor disputes presented further challenges for businesses navigating the wartime economy. Most studies of WWII industrial mobilization have focused on large corporations in high priority industries, such as the aircraft, petroleum, or steel industries, which achieved great success during the war. This thesis presents a case study of The Real Silk Hosiery Mills of Indianapolis, Indiana, a company that is representative of small and mid-sized companies that produced lower priority goods. The study demonstrates that the policies created by the military and civilian wartime agencies favored large corporations and had a negative affect on some businesses like Real Silk. As such,the economic boost associated with the war did not occur across the board.
