Texto completoIn December 2019, the authorities discovered a new coronavirus from China that could cause the disease covid-19. The virus spread rapidly globally and soon became a pandemic. To reduce the spread of infection and limit physical contact, many workplaces switched to teleworking. The purpose of the study is to develop knowledge about how involuntary telework affects managers' work situation, balance, and what strategies they use to maintain a good balance between work and private life. Previously work and home were two separate domains, however since individuals must work from home now, it is becoming increasingly important to be able to draw a line and separate work from private life and not to risk blurring the boundaries between them. The studies empirical material has been collected through eight qualitative semi-structured interviews and then analyzed based on Clark's (2000) model on boundary theory. We chose to limit the studies sample group to individuals with some form of managerial position who in connection with covid-19 were forced to work remotely. The results show that the informants experiences and strategies for demarcation differ depending on individual conditions, such as age, how much work experience the individual has or family situation. Some of the informant’s strategy is to break the working day with a walk or something similar, others instead started the day by getting ready as if they were going to the physical workplace. The individuals who preferred to segment the domains mainly made sure to turn off notifications on the email after the working day ended. Those of the informants who instead chose to integrate the domains did so, among other things, by being available on technical aids in addition to working hours. Finally, we discuss the results of the study based on purpose and questions and previous research.

Texto completoThe purpose of this study is to investigate how managers experience flexible work and how they use work balance strategies to be able to handle the balance between work and private life. The study is based on questions regarding how managers experience flexible work, how high demand-low control and balance affects managers health, how the relationship between work and private life looks like and what work balance strategies that are being used. The study shows that the managers have positive experiences with flexible work but that there are difficulties with how the flexibility should be handled. Furthermore, the results of the study show that the managers would like to have a certain balance between work and private time which they get with set limits. However, some managers lack these limits. The results also show that the managers require support from their managers, employers and work environment and that they appreciate a supporting and open work environment where they are allowed to discuss their work situation and how they handle flexible work. A qualitative method was chosen for the study which was done as a semistructured interviews with six managers who were chosen because of their flexible work. The answers from the interviews were analysed and compared with relevant theories and earlier studies in the subject.

Texto completoThis study examines how people with managerial positions within knowledge intensive work experience that the opportunities and challenges of remote digital work affects their work and their well-being. In the study, 13 semi-structured interviews were conducted with individuals of such positions, and resulted in a broad variety of possibilities derived from digital work – e.g. being able to work more efficiently and regardless of time or place. Nonetheless, due to digital work still being relatively new, challenges also arise as a consequence of being in a learning process of how digital work may be handled. Some of the challenges mentioned by the participants of the study include the speed of which work is expected to be performed at when utilizing digital tools, or that the separation between work and private life has been aggravated due to the increased accessibility. Additionally, as a consequence of the current pandemic, the participants were working remote from their homes, which was explained as a factor contributing to a heightened difficulty of separating their work life from their private life. The reason for this being work life and private life sharing the same physical space: their homes. However, the participants described the gained efficiency and availability from digital work as contributing to an increased experience of flexibility and being in control of their time and productivity. This was described as a positive effect of digital work, and according to theory essential to improve life balance. Hence, the participants have a possibility of improved life balance through digital work as it allows them to control their time whilst also improving their productivity. Nevertheless, the participants still aspired for a combination of digital work and traditional work post pandemic, due to the solidarity within the workplace being experienced as insufficient via solely digital mediums. Therefore, a combination of digital work and traditional work was desired to allow for effective work without social diminution. The employees could perform their work through exclusively digital mediums, yet still expressed missing traditional ways of working due to the social factors. Digital ways of working may therefore be seen as with practical benefits, and emotional challenges. A combination of digital and traditional work could therefore maximize productivity and increase flexibility whilst still maintaining social connections, thus favoring life balance and well-being.

Texto completoBackground: Companies are becoming increasingly dependent on their employees, as the organization's value-creating process largely takes place through them. It is thus important to motivate, retain and develop the company's employees. Previous studies on how motivation is affected by teleworking differ, where some believe that telework has a positive effect on motivation while others believe the opposite. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, teleworking took place on a more voluntary level, but as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, many companies have had to implement it. Purpose and research question: The purpose of the study is to increase the understanding of how employees feel that motivation is affected by the forced distance work. The study's research question is "How do employees who before the Covid-19 pandemic did not work remotely and employees who before the Covid-19 pandemic worked part-time remotely feel that motivation has been affected by the forced telework?" Literature review: The literature review presents theories about the concept of motivation, where internal and external motivation as well as amotivation are treated. Theories about telework are also presented where communication and work life balance are treated. Method: The researchers in the present study have used a qualitative method. To collect the empirical material, the researchers used semi-structured interviews. Four respondents who before the Covid-19 pandemic did not work remotely and four respondents who before the Covid-19 pandemic worked part-time remotely were interviewed. Conclusion: It has emerged that the impact of forced telework on motivation is independent of whether the employee has a habit of telework or not. It is rather clear that it is how well the employee's individual needs are met that determines how motivation is affected by the forced distance work.

Texto completoThis bachelor's thesis in sociology discusses the impact COVID-19 has had on the workplace and how companies have adapted to teleworking. The study is based on four semi-structured interviews conducted at a Swedish pharmaceutical company. The aim of this qualitative study is to gain a deeper understanding of how teleworking was perceived by employees at the company. The study aims to get an idea of what challenges and opportunities the employees experienced during their telework and what their perspective is on telework in the future. Thus, the study aims to contribute with knowledge that may be relevant for the company in this study, as well as other companies interested in organizing their work remotely in the future. The study's theoretical framework is based on Manuel Castells theory of Network Society, Robert Karasek and Töres Theorell's Demand-Control-Support model and Peter Balu's interpretation of Rational choice theory. These theories complement each other in the study from a micro-meso-macro perspective. The results indicate that teleworking creates increased flexibility and freedom, which can increase productivity. The results of the study also indicate that teleworking currently doesn’t satisfy employees' organizational and social work environment sufficiently.

Texto completoThe audit profession is characterized by high staff turnover, where a significant number of employees quit after a few years and before they have written the authorization test. Some of the reasons as to why young auditors choose to remain are materialistic rewards and recognition on performed tasks. Among experienced auditors’ choices to quit, there is the inability for work-life balance. Prior research has been conducted on what motivates younger auditors. However, there is a lack of what factors auditors with family value to remain in the profession. The purpose of this study is to contribute with knowledge about what motivates auditors with family to remain in auditing despite high workload. In the study, factors are presented that auditors with family value and that makes them stay within the profession. Ten qualitative interviews were conducted with auditors who have worked for at least three years and have family. Respondents from both Big 4-firms and smaller firms have participated to find out whether their perspectives differ depending on agency size. The study shows that factors that auditors with family primarily value are their colleagues, that they have challenging tasks, responsibilities and flexibility. Furthermore, flexibility is a factor that is important for enabling a functioning family life. Salary is another factor that auditors with family value, however to a lesser extent. The high workload of the audit profession during busy season is appreciated among auditors with family, as they prefer the intensity and when there are multiple things to do rather than during the low season. In the past decade, the audit firms and managers have changed towards further promoting work-life balance. The audit firms have promoted such a balance through mail and activities that focus on family life, while the managers have promoted this by discussing the family life of the employees during personal meetings with them. In order to further enable work-life balance among the employees, the audit firms should promote this together with the managers. This since the study shows that the managers can influence and motivate the employees, upon which it has a greater effect rather than if only the audit firms try to promote such a balance.

Texto completoThe purpose of this study was to contribute to a deeper understanding of factors that are crucial for long-term well-being and health from an employee perspective. This by studying what employees in the social sector in Borlänge municipality experience contributes to well-being and health in the workplace. Furthermore, this study intended to give suggestions on how the work with health factors in Borlänge municipality can be developed. To best answer the purpose, a qualitative method was chosen in which the approach for collecting empirical data was semi-structured interviews with long-term healthy employees from the area of personal assistance. The results showed that factors such as supportive leadership, participation, autonomy, positive work climate and work-life balance were common in the respondents work situation, which are factors that has shown to have a positive effect on employees' health. Furthermore, the respondents' long-term well-being and health could also be explained by additional health factors that were identified in their work environment. The respondents described that security due to long work experience and work ethic linked to loyalty were factors that contributed to their well-being. The experience is described as a means of handling various situations that may arise in the work situation as well as stress reducing as it creates a clarity about what expectations are in the work and between colleagues. High work ethic due to loyalty seems to be rooted in a desire to contribute to the benefit of another human by being an important resource in his or her life. All in all, the results show that the foundation for successful environment work with health factors requires security and trust partly between the manager and employees and partly between the employees. Finally, the study's results show that, in certain circumstances, health factors may contribute to new opportunities for promoting work environment work.

Texto completoPrevious research suggests that to have a good relationship between work and private life it is important to experience a-good mental health and success at work. The industrial managers’ in this study were undergoing a major change at their workplace and this study found examined how five male managers’ perception of their work-life balance. One of the aims of this study was to examine how the managers’ roles at home affects work-life balance (WLB), to what degree support at home affects WLB, and the impact that a balance or a conflict could have. The study was conducted qualitatively with a semi-structured interview guide and every manager was affected by the change at the workplace. The results showed that some of the managers were experiencing work-life conflicts where others were on the other hand experiencing a good WLB. The most common reason for feeling conflict between work-life was the uneven amount of workload, which occurred to a greater extent due to the change. These periods of uneven workload caused the managers to feel less control. One of the things that caused the managers to feel frustration is that they had limited resources and authority to handle the demands at work. The situation at home also had a very big impact on whether the managers’ experienced a good WLB or not.

Texto completoThe nonprofit sector is the third largest employing industry in the United States and impacts almost 10% of the economy (Roeger, Blackwood, & Pettijohn, 2012; Salamon, Sokolowski, & Geller, 2012). Women comprise over 75% of the nonprofit workforce, yet men hold over 80% of leadership positions (Bronznick & Goldenhar, 2009; McInnes, 2008). The purpose of this qualitative, phenomenological study was to examine the work-life balance practices of women leaders in nonprofit organizations and determine experiences impacting their life course. The ultimate goal was to gain insight from women leaders in nonprofit organizations to identify strategies for more women to advance into leadership roles. The researcher utilized a qualitative methodology with the life course theory developed by Giele (2008).
The research questions were: 1. What demographic factors, if any, are related to work-life balance issues for women leaders in nonprofit organizations? 2. How is the life course for women leaders in nonprofit organizations impacted, if at all, by experiences, identity, motivation, adaptive and relational style? 3. What strategies, if any, are women leaders in nonprofit organizations utilizing for work-life balance?
20 women leaders in nonprofit organizations served as the study population. The women held positions of vice president or above or positions equivalent to vice president if the organization did not use such titles. Participants provided socio-demographic data and responses to 5 sets of questions regarding early adulthood, childhood and early adolescence, current adulthood, future adulthood and coping strategies.
The key findings and conclusions revealed challenges with work-life balance associated with diverse demographic factors. Experiences related to identity, relational style, drive and motivation and adaptive style influenced life courses and are anticipated to influence the future life courses of participants, specifically regarding decisions on educational attainment, partnerships, family, careers, and social involvement. Work-life balance strategies were discovered in 4 areas: self-care, partners, professional skills, and social support.
Overall, the research provided a composite of the participants as women leaders in nonprofit organizations, including their backgrounds and life stories. The research demonstrated that work-life balance continues to be an issue and an interest for women leaders in nonprofit organizations.

Texto completoOrganizational leaders need to establish policies and programs to retain quality employees. Mentorship and work life balance positively impact organizational commitment and reduce turnover intention. The purpose of this phenomenological, qualitative study was to explore the role that mentors play in helping women achieve work life balance.
Two major theoretical frameworks were used as a basis of this study. Giele (2008) identified 4 life course dimensions that contribute to an individual's behavioral system: identity, relational style, drive and motivation, and adaptive style. Elder and Giele (2009) built on this work and combined elements of their paradigms to link dimensions of an individual's behavioral system and the setting where that individual functions. Kram (1988) documented 2 major categories of mentorship functions. The first set of functions, career functions, focuses on those aspects of the mentoring relationship that enhance career advancement. The second set of functions, psychosocial functions, focuses on interpersonal aspects of the relationship. The research questions focused on how the presence of a mentor in the workplace impacted women's experiences and enabled them to meet the challenges of work life balance.
The research questions explored how having a mentor while dealing with the challenges of work life balance impacted the 17 participants' perceptions of organizational commitment and turnover intention. The researcher also investigated how mentorship functions differed based on the characteristics of the mentor relationship.
This researcher gathered the data by sending an online survey to 80 women who had previously participated in the Digital Women's Project (Weber, 2011). Data were coded based on a priori lists that were developed from the theoretical frameworks and the literature. Themes were established and utilized to develop findings for each research question.
Nine out of 17 participants had a mentor who aided her with work life balance. Women who had a mentor experienced all 4 life course dimensions. Both mentoring and work life balance positively impacted the participants' organizational commitment and reduced their turnover intention. The participants experienced almost exclusively positive mentorship outcomes. In light of these findings, organizational leaders can develop policies and programs to encourage mentorship and aid employees with work life balance, thus increasing retention.

Faced with a volatile global economy, a rapidly shrinking population and a declining birthrate, Japan needs to find ways to revamp its economic engine. One solution is to increase the participation of Japanese women in the workforce. Over the past decade Japanese society, its government and companies have started this process. "Diversity Management" and "Work-Life Balance" are focus areas for executives in Japanese companies with the combined goals of increasing women's participation and leadership in the workforce and improving work-life balance for all employees. However, there are significant obstacles to be overcome: lack of gender equality in the corporate culture, lack of support for work-life balance, barriers to promotion opportunities for women, and lack of motivation on the part of women themselves. Under these constraints, it is necessary that each organization, including my employer NTT West, re-consider what it has already done for diversity management, and what it can do to improve the results. In this thesis, I will describe the diversity management strategies of several large Japanese companies. Much of this information comes from the interviews I did in Tokyo in January 2010. I compare the Japanese situations and strategies to those found among U.S. companies and analyze the challenges faced by the Japanese firms. Based on that material, I propose some recommendations for Japanese individuals, organizations, and the government. Some recommendations are learned from U.S. best practices and some are hybrid solutions that take into account Japanese cultural/ organizational customs. I believe that these recommendations will be helpful not only for my employer, NTT West, but also for all Japanese companies struggling with "Diversity Management" and Japanese employees struggling with their own "Work-Life Balance".

Texto completoIn the following essay, we examine managers’ experiences about Work-life balance, the balance between work and private life. The topic is relevant in today’s society where an increasing amount of people end up in a field of tension between devoting time to both career and family. Furthermore, it is a relevant topic in the guise of changes at the labor market by increased pace and new flexible work forms, which may cause difficulties for individuals to create a satisfactory balance. The study's purpose is to gain an understanding of municipal managers’ experience of the balance between work and private life, and immerse ourselves in the way they separates the work from the privacy. Based on the study´s purpose and research questions, we conducted qualitative semi-structured interviews with eight managers in a local municipal organization. The material has been transcribed and analyzed by coding. The results are presented by following themes; Balance between work and private life, Flexibilities impact on balance and the balance impact on well-being. In summary, the results of the study shows that municipal managers experience that balance primarily involves being able to combine work and family life in a satisfactory way. However, the managers of this study generally felt difficulties in finding this sort of balance, and to separate their work from their private life. Several managers experience that an imbalance affects their wellbeing negatively. Managers did however emphasis that flexibility in work forms could be an opportunity to partially facilitate the creation of balance. Finally, we have discussed the result in relation to theories of work-life balance and previous research in the area.

Texto completoA compelling dynamic work-life balance is necessary in order to create successful women in leadership roles. Women leaders face unlimited demands predominantly in the areas of family and the career. These competing interests have posed many challenges, sacrifices, and problems for career success. The literature mentions the dynamics of the work (career/ambition) and environment have resulted in a large amount of pressure and instability for women in leadership roles who try to balance work and lifestyle (family, health, leisure, pleasure, and spiritual development). The lack of work-life balance may cause high levels of anxiety, conflict at home, and make it difficult to achieve and develop their full potential. As a result, women leaders can experience job burnout, and stress. This presentation is part of a larger study on Work-Life Balance, career success, and; women in leadership roles.

Texto completoThis study focused on individual experiences of work-life balance as it related to white-collar workers occurrence of work-related communication outside of regular office hours and communication from the outside world during the workday. The study was conducted using a qualitative method, eight participants participated in a semi-structured interview that focused on their individual experience of work-life balance. All participants worked at a company based in Sweden. The material was analyzed using an inductive thematic method. From the results three themes were constructed: Blurred lines between working-hours and private life (with Desire to stay informed and Flexibility as subheadings). The other two themes were: Strategies to limit exposure to work-related communication outside working-hours and Private communication during the workday. The results showed that work-related communication outside of regular working-hours improved the respondents work-life balance provided the communication could be controlled to not interfere with family-related responsibilities. Private communication during work hours created a sensation of feeling informed of the happenings in the respondents private-life which helped with their work-life balance provided the communication was not too intense.
Griffith-Echito, Jessica Lynn. "The Effects of Transformational Leadership on Postsecondary Leaders' Work-Life Balance| A Quantitative Correlational Study". Thesis, Northcentral University, 2019. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=13806895.
Texto completoThe purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between administrator use of a leadership style (transformational, transactional, or laissez-faire) and work-life balance for postsecondary administrators. The problem addressed was that while transformational leadership has been shown to increase follower job satisfaction, decrease employee turnover, encourage followers to reach their potential, and motivate followers to do more than required, it could negatively affect the leader’s work-life balance. Thus, as the study and implementation of transformational leadership in higher education continue, failure to address this problem may result in increased reports of administrator fatigue and unsatisfactory work-life balance. Determining the effects of administrator use of transformational leadership on administrators’ work-life balance can provide new insights into the application of transformational leadership in higher education, while also helping leaders build their repertoire of effective leadership techniques. The research chosen was a quantitative correlational study on the relationship between leader use of transformational leadership and work-life balance for postsecondary administrators. For this quantitative study, administrators completed the self-evaluation version of the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ)-5x short adapted to fit a higher educational setting and the Work-Life Balance Measure (WLBM). Following the self-evaluations, the two surveys were reviewed to identify if a correlation existed between the use of transformational leadership and an unhealthy work-life balance, controlling for gender, marital status, and dependents. The study used survey data from 125 postsecondary administrators to determine the relationship between administrator use of a leadership style and work-life balance. The research question null hypothesis (leadership style predicting work-life balance) was rejected. Therefore, it is recommended that the topic be explored further to assess the degree to which follower work-life balance can be predicted based on leader use of the full range of leadership.

Texto completoThis study had the purpose of examining individual experiences of the balance between work life and personal life after a conversion from office work to telework. The study was conducted using a qualitative method. Ten respondents participated in a semi-structured interview that focused on individual experiences of a conversion from office work to telework. All of the respondents had experience of a conversion from office work to telework. The material was analyzed using an inductive thematic method. Three head-themes were constructed from the transcription: The boundaries between working time and private time, Home efficiency and Social support. The results showed that a conversion from office work to telework was perceived to improve private life due to improved flexibility but worsen working life due to the lack of social support, which could lead to a changed balance between the two.

Texto completoThe purpose of this study was to examine female parents´ general experience of their work situation and work-life balance and whether the experience changed after undergoing training in personal efficiency "Work Smarter". A further aim was to investigate what opportunities of improvement and limitations the respondents could identify, in order to enable a parent-friendly working life. Semi-structured interviews with seven respondents, with children under 12 years of age living at home, employees of a large state agency, were analyzed according to inductive thematic analysis, which generated four main themes: Flexibility through trust, Aspects of importance for work-life balance, Changes after training ”Work Smarter” and Possible changes and obstacles, with associated subcategories. The results showed that the training had contributed to a better work structure, but that its impact on the balance between work and private life was perceived as small. With regard to improvement opportunities and limitations, requests were made for increased planning considerations, clearer guidelines, better division of responsibilities in the home and exercise possibility. Texto completoThe purpose of this study is to provide an understanding of how recruiters perceive and manage flexibility, accessibility and work-life balance in an multinational and expanding organization characterized by boundaryless work. This understanding is important because the boundaryless work means a great responsibility for the individual, which creates a challenge for the individual to take care of their work-life balance and the maintenance of a long-term wellbeing. To fulfill the purpose of the study, fifteen qualitative interviews were conducted with recruiters on Spotify's recruitment department Talent Acquisition. The result shows a positive experience of flexibility and accessibility, but also shows an awareness of the challenges of constant connectivity, flexibility and accessibility and how they affect employees' work-life balance, and that boundaries tend to become blurred and more diffuse. This awareness has resulted in several individual strategies to handle the challenges of boundaryless work.

Texto completoTitle: The impact of salary model's on real estate agents balance between family and work. Level: Bachelor Thesis in Business Administration C, 15.0 hp. Author: Desiree Apell och Liza Malmqvist Supervisor: Maria Fregidou - Malama, Ernst Hollander and Pär Vilhelmson Date: 2014 – may Aim: The aim of this study was to explain how real estate agents experienced their pay model affecting their balance between family and work and in what extent they felt their pay model being stressful or motivating. Furthermore, the aim of this study was partially to validate an emerging theory by answering whether gender, career aspirations and parenthood-affected real estate agents balance between family and work. Method: We did a quantitative research by using mail surveys. Result & Conclusions: If the respondents felt motivated by their pay model, then they did not experience the salary model was affecting their balance between family and work, however, they experienced balance in life. Flexible working hours could contribute work-life balance to the respondents. Individuals, who experienced stress, also experienced that their pay model was affecting their balance between life and work. They also experienced that they did not have balance between family and work. Suggestions for future research: To be able to determine if this study is credible and generalizable, this study's purpose and research questions need further research. Flexible work should be studied further to determine whether it contributes real estate’s balance between family and work. Contribution of the thesis: Based on this study, this study can inspire the franchisees or executives in the real estate industry to design more stable and better conditions for their employees.

Texto completoThe use of ICT (Information and communication technology) has been increasing the last couple of years, and a huge part of today's communication is digital, either for private use or related to work. This type of use has made the borders between work and non-work/spare time less visible (Cöster & Westelius, 2016). The use related to work can affect the spare time to a large extent, which in turn can cause stress overload (Gulliksen et. al., 2015). Private use of ICT can have effects on work as well, and some claim that it can reduce workplace productivity (Steen, 2014; Ehrlin & Wengberg, 2014). There are however studies showing that private use of ICT at work can have a positive impact on WLB (work-life-balance) (Sayah, 2013) and productivity (Nduhura & Prieler, 2017). On the other hand, no study has attempted to connect all three parts (ICT, WLB and productivity), to understand the interplay between them. The issue with this gap of knowledge is the uncertainty of how eventual measures against private ICT-use, aiming to improve productivity, affects WLB and vice versa, possibly leading to negative impact. Therefore, this study intents to investigate the interplay between private use of ICT, WLB and productivity, and the relations between them. To answer the issue a qualitative method was used consisting of twelve interviews with employees working in the public sector. This study shows that private use of ICT could create a greater security and flexibility, as the employees are able to handle personal matters and relations during workhours, leading to improved WLB. There are however several variables influencing the outcome, such as personal preferences, career and persons in the surroundings. When it came to effects on productivity, both positive and negative effects were found. ICT-use being time consuming and stealing focus from work were mentioned as negative effects on productivity. Positive effects were more similar to the impact ICT-use has on WLB, such as employees feeling more secure due to being easier to reach, which in turn improves productivity. The conclusion drawn from this was that improved productivity, as a consequence of private use of ICT during workhours, is indirectly an effect of improved WLB. This effect could vary depending on family situation. Employees with younger children experienced greater positive effects on productivity, compared to employees with no children, or with older children.

Texto completoThe study aims to create awareness of the work schedules importance of Emergency Services. This by examine the attitudes that exist around working hours and in which way the work schedule is perceived to affect both the content of work and the balance between work and personal life. Based on the purpose we want to examine the proportion who are satisfied or dissatisfied with the work schedule and see what makes it perceived as good or not good from different aspects. Finally, we want to examine whether it is perceived to be better solutions to the work schedule, from a labor point of view as well as for the personal life. We conducted a method combining quantitative and qualitative methods. The emphasis of the survey is on the quantitative part because it brings out all the firemen's opinions, while the qualitative elements have contributed to a deeper picture of the experiences around the work schedule. The result show that many firefighters are dissatisfied with the current work schedule and have come to different suggestions on how it can be better, for example by splitting the daytime shifts during all weeks. A majority feel that the work schedule interferes with the personal life, but that the positive aspects offsetting the negative. On the positive side, among other things, the firemen are vacant a lot in the daytime and thus have time to do many chores. The results were analyzed by SPSS and theories about boundaries, role conflicts and conservation of resources model.

Texto completoThere is a common phrase used in India, Na Stree Swathantrayam Arhati, which translates into women not deserving independence. This ideology gives women a disadvantage at an early age in life. This study strives to strengthen the ability of women that are enduring disabilities, gender issues, and inequality in the home and work place. There has been increased research on the topic in India especially due to the increased discrimination against women in the country. Women’s empowerment can be viewed as women gaining control or power over their lives and this study strived to gain that.
This particular study is based on the 4 questions discussed in Giele’s (2008) life course research. The 4 questions cover topics of early adulthood, childhood and adolescence, current and future adulthood. An additional question was added to focus on strategies that women use for work-life balance. The 20 interviews that were administered and completed online were from a wide array of women in the field of finance. Throughout all the interviews one could feel the frustration of how difficult it was to create a work-life balance because of their identity and culture. There were 3 forms of criteria that needed to be met to participate in this study and they included: (a) have to be an Indian woman, (b) living in India, and (c) worked or working in finance.
The findings from this study has brought forth 56 strategies for work-life balance and within the 56 strategies nine themes emerged. From the 20 women interviewed 20 of them lived in India. They all had a finance background and were between the ages of 28-54. Overall 15 were Hindu, 2 Muslim, 2 Buddhist, and 1 Jainist. A majority of them were married with at least one child. There were 3 divorcees and 1 widow that participated as well. According to the demographic data 17 out of the 20 women had some college degree or more with one who attended technical school and 2 that graduated high school.

Texto completoThe aim of this study was to examine whether and how employees feel that today's boundless digital work shifts the balance between work and family life. Through a qualitative method, the study was based on eight semi-structured interviews which was carried out at a company located in Central Sweden. The collected material was analyzed using an inductive thematic analysis where three themes were identified; control over the stream of information, organizational culture with subcategory leadership and the final theme flexibility. The results indicated that the boundary between work and family life has shifted by today´s limitless digital work, since the respondents controlled their work-related stream of information mainly through email outside working hours. An organizational culture and leadership without expectations of permanent availability and the possibility to use flexible working hours has made it easier for the respondents to handle the diffuse boundary that emerged with the advanced technology and to create a good work - life balance.
