Texto completoThe application of management principles to the acquisition, organization, control, dissemination and use of information and knowledge relevant to the effective operation of organizations of all kinds. Information management includes a lot of disciplines, but all of them can be joint into three main parts: information resources management, communication management and information processing management. Information management cycle include six information management processes: identifying information needs, acquiring information, organizing and storing information, developing information products and services, distributing information, using information. Knowledge management is the process through which organizations generate value from their intellectual and knowledge-based assets. Some benefits of knowledge management correlate directly to bottom-line savings, while others are more difficult to quantify. In today's information-driven economy, companies uncover the most opportunities — and ultimately derive the most value — from intellectual rather than physical assets. To get the most value from a company's intellectual assets, knowledge management practitioners maintain that knowledge must be shared and serve as the foundation for collaboration. Yet better collaboration is not an end in itself; without an overarching business context, knowledge management is meaningless at best and harmful at worst. Consequently, an effective knowledge management program should help a... [to full text]

Texto completoSummary There is an increasing understanding that intellectual capital is a key matter for success in today's economic environment. Intellectual capital is not just data or information in files and databases. It embraces all useful knowledge in all forms in the organization. Intellectual capital is vital in knowledge-based organizations and is becoming increasingly important in every other type of organization. Therefore, it is critically important that intellectual assets are well understood and properly managed if organizations want to compete successfully in today's world economy. Effective management of intellectual capital begins with understanding. For this reason, this paper has provided a definition of intellectual capital to help managers understand the breadth of management requirements. Several models for classifying the components of intellectual capital were then presented so management might understand the depth of management requirements. Finally, several measurement schemes were presented showing how intellectual capital can be viewed at both the component-by-component and organization levels. Management of intellectual capital is in its early stage, but interest is growing. Models and measurements are being developed with enthusiastic experimentation. The indication is that every organization should begin their quest for understanding and expertise in managing the pre-eminent asset for creating wealth in the future. Texto completoKnowledge management is unique and absolutely individual for each organization. We also observe greater influence of knowledge management on cultural institutions the common feature of which is that they all form, integrate, store, disseminate and give access to information and knowledge and render services to the same or similar groups of users. They are museums, libraries and archives. Knowledge management for these institutions which traditionally are not disposed to change and accept novelties is known but not very familiar sphere. Knowledge management as a separate branch of management is the subject of this project. The aim of the project is on theoretical basis to reveal the role of knowledge management and tendencies in cultural institutions by presenting the analysis of knowledge management in one of the cultural institutions, i.e. the library. The project aims and tasks were carried out by using the methods of theoretical literature analysis, separate information sources and the comparative method. On the grounds of these methods the notion of knowledge management, the influence of knowledge management on a modern organization (knowledge organization, studying organization, knowledge employees, organization culture), the importance of knowledge management and its implementation tendencies in cultural institutions having concretely analyzed knowledge management in one of the cultural institutions, i.e. the library, was revealed. Texto completoThe review of the scientific works submitted for habilitation analyzes the most important results of the scientific research conducted by Zenona Ona Atkočiūnienė in 1999 – 2009. Processes taking place on a global scale, knowledge-based economic challenges encourage transformations of management paradigms. A new management input – knowledge management – undergoes formation. The essence of such management is the use, maintenance, administration and improvement of intangible resources, formation and enlargement of intellectual capital, seeking to gain competitive advantage. When investigating transformations of management models, conditioned by challenges of knowledge society and knowledge economy, business advantages and shortcomings may be identified and the fields of development of organizations’ critical strategic advantage may be set out. The integrity of information and knowledge management is reasoned by interlink between the objects (information and knowledge) denoting the essence and specific features of information and knowledge as management functions as well as social phenomena. The purpose of research: to investigate, evaluate and summarize theoretical aspects of information and knowledge management, and, taking into consideration environmental changes and intercultural differences of organizations, to disclose the content and trends of their practical application in organizations. The tasks of research: • To define changes of information management activities... [to full text]

Texto completoThe work describes the standpoint of sustainable development upheld by knowledge management, ephasizing that implemetation of sustainable development regulations at the global level needs to be started from local changes which fortune depends on the ability to use one of the most important local resources – knowledge, because the engine of the most processes in the knowledge society is an educated and competent individual. The problem-oriented analysis of sustainable development and knowledge management structures the concept of sustainable development that aims for sustainable development in the global, regional and organizational context through extended knowledge management conception. The content analysis of Lithuanian executive‘s documents reveals that, aiming for the sustainable development of knowledge society, country‘s education policy has to be oriented not only to social welfare and economical competitiveness, but also to the importance of ecological education. The research of sustainable development through knowledge management in the organizations in three different countries signifies that all organizations must improve their knowledge management processes and means in regard to their national natural, economical, social differences so that they would contribute to the implementation of sustainable development in the organization, the country and the world.

Texto completoThere continues to be much interest in the business and academic communities in the concept of strategic competencies, that is, how organisations define and differentiate themselves. More recently, this movement has fragmented into a number of related fields with subtle differences in focus: knowledge management — concerned with how organisations identify, share and exploit their internal competencies, in particular the knowledge of individuals; organizational learning — on the relationship between individual and organizational knowledge and how organisations acquire new competencies; strategic management — how competencies can be assessed, and how these contribute to performance; and innovation management — on how such competencies are translated into new processes, products and services. The purpose of this paper is to analyse how knowledge management fosters the development of organization’s strategic competencies. In order to reach the purpose of the paper, tasks are raised as follows: - To identify the relationships between the knowledge management, strategic competencies, innovation management and organizational learning. - To discuss the conception of competency and arising problems of its determination, to analyze the main organizational competency models; - To identify the factors that influence the development of organizational competencies and to design competency development opportunities under the base of knowledge management; - With the help of research taken at... Texto completoKnowledge investment in scientific literature is often identified as a separate set of cells (G. Becker, DA Olaniyan, ch. Ryu, Z. Tamašauskienė J. Bagdanavičius, ER Stancikas, etc.) not to combine them into a single system. This scientific approach insufficiently reveal the complexity of knowledge investment and systematic. Therefore, it can be said that there insufficient approach investment in knowledge as a systematic process of perception, and it does not allow the organization to carry out a coherent and targeted investment in knowledge work. Consequently, the organization will not be able to adapt to changing environmental conditions, and incompetent staff will not be ready to withstand the external environmental elements of competitive pressures. The purpose of master research work – to identify and assess the knowledge investment as a systematic process to the benefit of human capital. Texto completoNowadays project management has been accepted as a project activities methodology in the whole world. Organizations can reach a high quality level, gain time and resources, understate risks and increase reliability of its product and services by using project management techniques and methods. The importance of project management is specifically important in software development projects. Without project management and its particular knowledge areas, such as quality management, the result of software development projects instead of benefit can cause significant direct and indirect costs or even fail. Many organizations wishing to improve their business activities and processes are investing a lot of money into software development or procurement. The software industry has been growing at an accelerated rate for the past decade (in 1996, annual revenues of information technology market estimated $120 billion, whereas in 2006 – €919 billion). In order to develop high quality software products, which can satisfy all users’ needs and requirements at the maximum, software development process should be taken into consideration, due to that quality occurs at project initiation and must be planned for within the project. Project quality management combines interdependent methods, techniques and technologies, and helps to achieve high quality software products. Texto completoThe subject of the Master‘s thesis is the distinctiveness of the knowledge management processes in the context of cross-cultural interaction within Lithuania-based international enterprises. The aim of this work is to reveal the expression of cultural differences in the processes of knowledge management within Lithuania-based international enterprises. In the theoretical part of the thesis the basic aspects of knowledge management are distinguished and the basic cross-cultural differences are explained based on G.Hofstede’s (1997) cultural dimensions that occur in organizational context and are a part of professional activities. Based on these distinguished aspects of knowledge management and cross-cultural differences, the basic particularities of knowledge management processes within cross-cultural context were discovered. Analysis of cases of Swedish, Japanese and British enterprises revealed that national cultures were mirrored in the processes of knowledge management employed by these companies. It was disclosed that individualism and collectivism were the main dimensions determining the flow of knowledge management processes. The analysis also discovered that national cultural features were not the only factors that influenced knowledge management processes.
