English Abstract: The reception of European orchestral repertoires was a phenomenon that developed with a certain intensity in some Spanish cathedrals during the transition from the eighteenth to the nineteenth century. This is proved by the preserved music sources themselves, together with other administrative documents. Within this thematic area, the connection of Ignace Pleyel (1757–1831) and his music with Spain has received some attention, although to a lesser extent than that of his mentor Joseph Haydn (1732–1809). The dissemination of his symphonies in secular institutions has already b

General of the Infantry Count G.M. Sprengtporten (1740-1819) is one of the less known historical figures of the last quarter of the 18th and of the early 19th century. As a Swedish citizen, he hatched plans to turn Finland into an independent state. In the mid-1780s he saw in Catherine II a potential ally who could implement his ideas. After accepting the invitation to enter Russian service, Sprengtporten did not blend either in the Highest Court or in the Russian army. Not having shown any significant military feats during the wars of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, he distinguished h

Owing to medical historian Erwin H. Ackerknecht’s (1906–1988) pioneering study “Medicine at the Paris Hospital, 1794–1848” (1967), the year 1794 is seen as the decisive separation date on which the development and reorganization of the Parisian clinical school—as a broad movement and a system of medical education and clinical practice—distanced it from the traditions of the 18th century. This precise dating is based on the “Rapport et projet de décret sur l’établissement d’une École centrale de Santé à Paris” (1794) by the French clinician and naturalist Antoine-François Fourcroy (1755–1809),

It focuses on the value, structure and destination of exports of domestic goods from Mompox to markets on the Atlantic and the Andes.
