The genus Mesophleps Hübner (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) is revised; 54 available names (including one unjustifiedemendation), one junior primary homonym and one unavailable name were considered; type material of 44 previouslydescribed nominal species was examined. Nine new species are described: M. acutunca sp. nov., M. bifidella sp. nov., M.unguella sp. nov., M. gigantella sp. nov., M. coffeae sp. nov., M. parvella sp. nov., M. aspina sp. nov., M. truncatella sp.nov. and M. undulatella sp. nov. Este artigo tem por objetivo analisar como se deu a criação e implementação do 5º grupo escolar Barão do Rio Branco em Belém-PA no período de 1902 a 1906. É uma pesquisa documental, que utilizou como fontes históricas o Decreto nº 625 de 1899, o livro de Virgílio Oliveira de 1903, mensagens de governadores (1899-1900), o Diário Oficial de 1900, dentre outras. Dialogamos com Nosella e Buffa (2013), Sanfelice (2007), Souza (2014), Sarges (2010), Schueler e Magaldi (2009), Nery (2013), entre outros. O 5º grupo escolar foi criado pelo Decreto Nº 1.133, de 22 de março de 1902. Funcionou inicialmente em um prédio alugado e, em 1906, o Governo do Pará comprou um prédio próprio. Foi uma instituição com elevado número de matrículas e participou da formação intelectual e social de alunos e alunas, o que muito se buscava no período republicano.

The fauna of Iranian Anthicidae and pediline Pyrochroidae (Coleoptera) is summarized in this paper. A total of 132 species from 19 genera and four subfamilies (Anthicinae, Notoxinae, Steropinae, and Tomoderinae) of Anthicidae and two species of Pedilinae are listed. Three new synonyms are proposed: Anthicus armatus Truqui, 1855 = A. pseudoarmatus Telnov, 2008 syn. nov., Notoxus hirtus LaFerté-Sénectère, 1849 = N. caucasicus Pic, 1900 syn. nov., Stricticomus rufithorax (LaFerté-Sénectère, 1849) = Anthicus transcaspicus var. subnotata Pic, 1910 syn. nov. One new combination is made: Nitorus unifasciatus (Desbrochers des Loges, 1875) comb. nov. (from Pseudoleptaleus Pic, 1900). Helena z Walewskich (1881–1956) i Antoni (1868–1952) Siemiątkowscy herbu Jastrzębiec byli właścicielami majątków Wojsławice i Tymienice do wybuchu II wojny światowej. Ich siedzibą był pałac w Wojsławicach zbudowany w latach 1900–1902, skąd zostali usunięci we wrześniu 1939 r. Mieli trzech synów: Bolesława (1901–1935), Józefa (1904–1939), Jana (1909–1958) oraz córkę Marię (1903–1979). Część II opowieści o rodzinie Siemiątkowskich zawiera wspomnienie Heleny z Walewskich Siemiątkowskiej o dzieciństwie i tragicznej śmierci syna Bolesława, który został ranny w niewyjaśnionych okolicznościach. W pałacu w Wojsławicach zamieszkiwali do września 1939 r. córka Maria z Siemiątkowskich Klińska z trojgiem dzieci (Jan, Maria Antonina zw. Tereską, Zofia Klińscy) oraz syn Jan Siemiątkowski. Opracowanie ukazuje życie mieszkańców wojsławickiego dworu nie tylko w okresie międzywojennym ale również przedstawia losy rodziny Siemiątkowskich z dala od rodzinnego gniazda, w nowej nieprzyjaznej powojennej rzeczywistości.

Buscando entender de que modo a estética Art Nouveau emerge na arte gráfica do Rio de Janeiro no começo do século XX, problematiza-se a sua presença na capital do Brasil a partir da circulação de ideias entre o Rio de Janeiro e Paris, com a Exposição Universal de 1900, assim como da constituição de um campo artístico brasileiro em torno de Eliseu Visconti (1966–1944), que retornara ao país em 1902. Para tanto, analisa-se os trinta e três exemplares da Revista da Semana (1900) e os cento e vinte de O Malho (1902–1904), identificando que a Arte Nova emerge na arte gráfica do Rio de Janeiro em dois momentos distintos, em 1900 e em 1902, configurando-se em outra Arte Moderna antes do Modernismo de 1922.

Five Tamarix taxa were described in Freyn’s posthumous publication (Freyn 1903): Tamarix askabadensis Freyn (1903: 1059), Tamarix karakalensis Freyn (1903: 1060), T. karakalensis var. scoparia Freyn (1903: 1062), T. karakalensis var. verrucifera Freyn (1903: 1062), and T. karakalensis var. myriantha Freyn (1903: 1062). This publication comprised an enumeration of the plants collected by Paul Sintenis in “Tauria, 1900–1901” (in the Sintenis’s voucher labels as “Iter transcaspico-persicum 1900–1901”), by Ove Paulsen in “regione caspica, transcaspica, praesertium in altiplanitie Pamir, 1898–1899”, and by Victor Ferdinand Brotherus “in Turkestania, 1896”. However, all Tamarix taxa treated in that work belong to those collected by Sintenis. It is important to point out that Sintenis was mostly a plant collector who sold his vouchers to many different herbaria: ANK, BHUPM, BREM, G, GH, HAC, JE, LD, PAL, PR, TUB, VT, W, WAG, and WU (acronyms according to Thiers 2014). However, his personal herbarium (ca. 80000 vouchers of 18000 species) was acquired by the Herbarium of the Botanical Museum of Lund (LD) in 1921–1922 (Patrik Frödén pers. comm.).

Abstract John Murray was effectively Edith Wharton's first British publisher, bringing out three of her works between 1900 and 1902: The Touchstone (1900) (in Britain, A Gift from the Grave), Crucial Instances (1901), and The Valley of Decision (1902). The correspondence between Wharton and Murray, until recently unknown to Wharton scholars, sheds light on the composition of, and Wharton's stated intentions for, the texts in question, as well as on her early professional evolution. This article places this correspondence in the context of Wharton's early career, and examines some of the correspondence between Wharton and Murray in detail (that concerning The Valley of Decision, in particular).

The article is devoted to the second stage of architectural and design activity of Hector (Hector) Guimar (1867–1942), during which his unique style was finally formed. During the period from 1900 to 1912, following the traditions of «total design», the architect was engaged not only in the design of residential and public buildings, but also in the decorative design of their facades and interiors, furniture, tableware, elements of technical equipment. He compiled a catalog of metal decorative elements for their serial production, published a set of advertising cards of his best works. The most well-known architectural designs are made in Guimard’s style, such as the house Jassede at Versailles (1903), Hotel Deron-Levent (1907), Castel d’Orgeval (1904–1905), Villa Surprise (1903-1907), Hôtel Guimard (1909–1912), Hôtel Mez-zara (1910–1911).

El veinticuatro de octubre de 1902 se redactó el convenio en la hacienda Neerlandia y el veintiuno de noviembre del mismo año se firmó en el buque norteamericano Wisconsin, un acuerdo de paz que produjo el fin de la Guerra de Los Mil Días. Los liberales radicales capitulaban ante los conservadores de la Regeneración y grupos armados de liberales, liderados primordialmente, al mando de Benjamín Herrera y Rafael Uribe Uribe, convinieron dejar la lucha armada y consensuar con el gobierno conservador de José Manuel Marroquín (1900–1904). Con los acuerdos de paz decretados, se cerró el siglo XIX en Colombia y se entró al siglo XX. Las consecuencias de la conflagración fueron la pérdida de Panamá el tres de noviembre de 1903 y la llegada al solio presidencial del militar comerciante boyacense y conservador Rafael Reyes (1904–1909).

The article analyzes the origins of the Preface to the second volume, Religion, of Dmitry Merezhkovsky’s book L. Tolstoy and Dostoevsky (1900–1902). The first publication of the book in Mir iskusstva ended with a Conclusion. When preparing a separate publication of his work (1902), Merezhkovsky published the Conclusion of Religion as a Preface without changing the original text. He used the revised text of the Conclusion for a paper entitled “Leo Tolstoy and the Russian Church” (1903). The paper includes the key points of the talk; it is an almost exact copy of the Preface to the second and third editions of the book (1903, 1909), as well as to both editions of the author’s complete works (Vol. VIII, 1912; Vol. XI, 1914). The article attempts to show the evolution of the author’s original design, explain the motives that encouraged Merezhkovsky to publish the text, reconstruct the context of the heated arguments about his book as well as his reasons to give a talk “Fathers and children of Russian liberalism” (1901).

The war that brought together the hero Nahak Maroe Rai and Dutch troops in South Belu in 1900-1906 was an effort to protect the territory of the Wewiku Kingdom from Dutch rule. The purposes of this study are to describe (1) the background of the Hero Nahak Maroe Rai in the War against the Dutch in Belu God 1900-1906; (2) The Process of the War Between the Heroes of Nahak Maroe Rai against the Dutch in Belu God 1900-1906. This study uses the historical method which includes four stages, namely heuristics, source criticism, interpretation and historiography. The results of the study revealed (1) that the background of the hero Nahak Maroe Rai led all the people of the South Wewikudi Belu Kingdom, Malacca Regency because the Dutch wanted to control the Wewiku Kingdom area; and (2) the war between the people of the Wewiku Kingdom under the leadership of Meo (hero) Nahak Maroe Rai against the Dutch troops occurred three times, namely the first resistance occurred in 1900, then the second battle occurred in 1903. In the first and second battles, The Dutch were successfully repulsed by Nahak Maroe Rai and his troops. For this reason, Nahak Maroe Rai is called by the people of the Wewiku Kingdom as a Meo (hero). In the third battle, in 1906, Nahak Maroe Rai died as a result of being hit by gunfire from Dutch troops; (3) the natural strength of the traditional house owned by Nahak Maroe Rai and the Wewiku people became a factor in the defeat of the Dutch troops.

A revision of the subfamily Microscaphidiinae Looss, 1900 is presented and characters of taxonomic significance discussed. The genus Microscaphidium Looss, 1900, contains M. reticulare (van Beneden, 1859) Looss, 1901 (synonyms M. japonicum Oguro, 1941; M. caballeroi Groschaft, 1977); M. aberrans Looss, 1902 (synonym M. reticulare in part); and M, warui, sp. nov. Confusion in the literature over the identities of M. reticulare and M. aberrans is discussed. A neotype is selected for the former species and a lectotype for the latter. Polyangium linguatula (Looss, 1899) Looss, 1902 (synonyms P. miyajimai Kobayashi, 1921; P. colymbi Poche, 1925; P. longiseminale Chattopadhyaya, 1972) is the sole species in Polyangium Looss, 1902. The genus Angiodictyum Looss, 1902 contains A. parallelum (Looss, 1901) Looss, 1902; A. posterovitellatum Chattopadhyaya, 1972; A. longum, sp, nov.; A. glossoides, sp. nov. Polygorgyra, gen. nov., is proposed for P. cholados, sp. nov. Microscaphidium chelonei Chattopadhyaya, 1972 nec Mehrotra, 1973 and Angiodictyum anteroporum Chattopadhyaya, 1972 are regarded as species inquirendae. Microscaphidium chelonei Mehrotra, 1973 nec Chattopadhyaya, 1972 is a nomen nudum. The following species are recorded for the first time from the green turtle, Chelonia mydas (L.) in Australian waters: Microscaphidium reticulare; M. aberrans; M. warui; Angiodictyum posterovitellatum; A. longum; Polygorgyra cholados.

The medical faculty at Novorossiysk University in Odessa (nowadays - Odessa National Medical University) was established in 1900. The aim of the review is to outline the impact of medical scientists from Kazan University on forming the lecturing staff of the medical faculty in Odessa. The article reviews previously published and newly discovered source data. The first head of the department of diagnostic medicine and propaedeutics of the medical faculty was Sergey Vasilyevich Levashov, professor of Kazan University. He took up the position of professor at the department of internal medicine of the teaching hospital of Kazan University in June of 1886. In January of 1903, he was transferred to Novorossiysk University, which was a solid addition for the new faculty. Professor Leontiy Ivanovich Uskov followed professor Levashov on his way from Kazan to Odessa. In 1889 he graduated from gymnasium in Tambov, in 1894 - from medical faculty of Kazan State University magna cum laude, worked as a military doctor, since 1900 - as an ordinary resident of professor Levashov at the department of internal medicine of the teaching hospital of Kazan University. In 1903, Professor Nikolay Mikhaylovich Popov (in 1894-1903 - professor of the department of mental diseases at Kazan University) also transferred to Odessa. Professor Popov was the founder and the first head of the department of neurology and mental diseases in Odessa. Alexey Erastovich Yanishevsky, who was the student of Professor N.M. Popov in Kazan, followed him to Odessa. Another student of Professor Popov, Vladimir Nikolaevich Obraztsov, who graduated from medical faculty of Kazan University in 1898 and was recommended by Professor Popov for extraordinary residency at the department of mental diseases at Kazan University a year after, transferred to Odessa in 1904. Another alumnus of Kazan University, Bronislav Ivanovich Vorotynsky, was teaching at Novorossiysk University. In 1901 he left the position of extraordinary assistant professor of the department of mental diseases at Kazan University after being appointed as a head doctor of the Odessa city mental hospital; since 1905 he was a freelance university lecturer of the department of neurology and mental diseases at Novorossiysk University. Therefore, the lecturing staff of one of the country’s oldest medical schools contributed to establishing the new site of higher medical education in Russia.

Frithjof participated in several North Pole expeditions between 1898 and 1907 and was also involved in several relief expeditions. Her most frequent commander was Captain Johan Kjeldsen, who was an internationally famous ice pilot. Frithjof was built in 1884 at Stokke on Oslo fjord, Norway. After being employed in the sealing trade for some years, Frithjof was sold to an Icelandic concern. In 1891 she returned to Norwegian ownership and, in 1898, was chartered for Walter Wellman's North Pole expedition of the years 1898–1899. In 1900, she was the expedition ship for the Kolthoff expedition to Greenland, Spitsbergen and Jan Mayen. Between 1901 and 1904 she was engaged in Ziegler's North Pole expeditions both as expedition ship and as relief vessel. In 1903 the Swedish government chartered Frithjof in order to search for the Nordenskjöld expedition in the Antarctic. In 1906–7 the ship was again chartered for Wellman's North Pole airship expeditions. In late September 1907, Frithjof sailed from Tromsø on a relief expedition to search for Laura, an expedition vessel to Greenland that had not been heard of for three months. On 5 October 1907 she was lost in a storm off Iceland and only one man survived from her crew of 17.

Ellen Terry's letters to Amey Stansfield were written between 1892 the first and several later ones cannot be precisely dated because the envelopes are missing – and 31 August 1907, a period covering the last decade of her association with Henry Irving at the Lyceum Theatre and also the peak years of her correspondence with Bernard Shaw, who called her ‘one of the greatest letter-writers who ever lived’. There are thirtythree of them, and although sometimes a long interval elapses between letters – only one for each of the years 1902 and 1907, and none at all for 1895, 1896, 1898, 1900, 1901 and 1904 – the inference need not be drawn that the collection is incomplete, for Amey carefully preserved them. Her own letters to Ellen Terry have not survived.

The genus Willea Schmidle (1900a: 157) was created based on Crucigenia irregularis Wille (1898: 317), a species described as having no pyrenoid but later discovered to be present, although often indistinct (Komárek 1974). The same year Lemmermann (1900b) described the new genus Crucigeniella Lemmermann (1900b: 307, 308), based on differences in cell arrangement and morphology and presence or absence of cellular spaces, with Crucigeniella lunarisLemmermann (1900b: 308) as the type species. Later, Lemmermann (1904, p. 22) transferred Willea irregularis(Wille) Schmidle (1900a: 157) to the genus Cohniella Schröeder (1897: 373) despite having placed it earlier (Lemmermann, 1900a, p. 95) in Tetrastrum Chodat (1895: 114), a genus, in which the cells usually have distinctive marginal spines. His decision to recognize Cohniella irregularis (Wille) Lemmermann (1904: 22) and create two sections/subgenera distinguished by the presence or absence of margins spines has not been accepted. Cohniella irregularis was placed in the synonymy of Willea irregularis by Komárek (1974, p. 41), who discounted pyrenoids as a generic character (p. 11) and emphasized the taxonomic importance of the arrangement and orientation of daughter cells within the mother coenobium. He separated Willea from Crucigeniella on the basis that the long axes of the daughter cells of the latter were not always aligned to that of the mother coenobium and occasionally were at an angle of 90º to it. In addition to the type of Willea (W. irregularis), a second species was recognized when Komárek (1974, p. 42) transferred Dispora vilhelmii Fott (1933: 168) to the genus Willea.

Dam constructions are considered a great concern for public health. The current study aimed to investigate malaria transmission in the Nyabessan village around the Memve’ele dam in South Cameroon. Adult mosquitoes were captured by human landing catches in Nyabessan before and during dam construction in 2000–2006 and 2014–2016 respectively, as well as in the Olama village, which was selected as a control. Malaria vectors were morphologically identified and analyzed for Plasmodium falciparum circumsporozoite protein detection and molecular identification of Anopheles (A.) gambiae species. Overall, ten malaria vector species were identified among 12,189 Anopheles specimens from Nyabessan (N = 6127) and Olama (N = 6062), including A. gambiae Giles (1902), A. coluzzii Coetzee (2013), A. moucheti Evans (1925), A. ovengensis Awono (2004), A. nili Theobald (1903), A. paludis Theobald (1900), A. zieanni, A. marshallii Theobald (1903), A. coustani Laveran (1900), and A. obscurus Grünberg (1905). In Nyabessan, A. moucheti and A. ovengensis were the main vector species before dam construction (16–50 bites/person/night-b/p/n, 0.26–0.71 infective bites/person/night-ib/p/n) that experienced a reduction of their role in disease transmission in 2016 (3–35 b/p/n, 0–0.5 ib/p/n) (p < 0.005). By contrast, the role of A. gambiae s.l. and A. paludis increased (11–38 b/p/n, 0.75–1.2 ib/p/n) (p < 0.01). In Olama, A. moucheti remained the main malaria vector species throughout the study period (p = 0.5). These findings highlight the need for a strong vector-borne disease surveillance and control system around the Memve’ele dam.

Constantinople around 1900 as a Literary World. A Cultural Semiotic Analysis of Scandinavian Examples
Constantinople, today’s Istanbul, was in the early 20th century a multiethnic, multireligious, and multilingual city with a diversity of writing systems. It was also an important and influential hub for international trade and politics, for Europe and the Western world. This essay is part of the research programme World Literatures. Cosmopolitan and Vernacular Dynamics, at Stockholm University. It aims to demonstrate how the vernacular (the local) depends on and interacts with the cosmopolitan in literary works on Constantinople during the decades around 1900, with a focus on Scandinavian languages and nationalities. For analysis and discussion I have chosen one poem in Danish by J. P. Jacobsen (1870), and travelogues and short prose texts in Swedish by Birger Mörner (1906) and Stéphanie Beyel (1919), and in Norwegian by Knut Hamsun (1903; 1905). Yuri M. Lotman’s concept of the semiosphere is used in combination with Eric Hayot’s study On Literary Worlds (2012) in order to explore the worldmaking capaci ty of the selected literary works – that is, how literary worlds are created as immanent aspects of literature. It is demonstrated that the literary world of Constantinople cannot be defined as either peripheral within a Western semiosphere or central within the Ottoman semiosphere. Rather, the city functions in these literary works as a threshold between East and West, or as the multilingual, intermediating and ambivalent border between the semiospheres, characterised by its simultaneously separating and uniting features. Unexpected connections between the vernacular elements of the cosmopolitan city are established. The literary world of Constantinople is not only portrayed in the languages of Scandinavian readers; their languages are also a part of the Constantinopolitan multilingual mix.

Abstract Aetideid copepods dominate the mesopelagic layer of the Arctic Ocean and play an important role in the vertical material flux and biodiversity. However, little information about the lengths and weights of their copepodids is available. In this study, we collected five sympatric aetideid copepods, Chiridius obtusifrons Sars G.O., 1902, Gaetanus tenuispinus (Sars G.O., 1900), Gaetanus brevispinus (Sars G.O., 1900), Aetideopsis multiserrata (Wolfenden, 1904), and Aetideopsis rostrata Sars G.O., 1903, from the Arctic Ocean and examined their body lengths, dry and ash-free dry weights, and developmental growths at each copepodid stage. Highly significant length-weight relationships were obtained among copepodids for all species. Within genera, individuals of the same length were heavier at shallower depths. This may result from the greater nutritional availability to species within genera inhabiting shallower depths. Common to all species, the organic content (ash-free dry weight per dry weight) was high for the early copepodid stages. This may be due to the residual organic content of lipid-rich eggs retained in the non-feeding nauplii. The largest growth in females occurred at C5/C6, whereas the largest growth in males occurred at C4/C5, as determined by moult increment and proportion of growth in weight. These sex differences in weight growth could be due to the degeneration of the feeding appendage and cessation of feeding in C6 males of aetideid copepods.

Najbardziej płodny okres w jego twórczości literackiej — to lata 1901–1905. W tym okresie powstały najsłynniejsze dramaty Wyspiańskiego: Wesele (1901), Wyzwolenie, Bolesław Śmiały, Achilleis (1903), Akropolis, Noc listopadowa (1904). W swoich utworach dramatycznych ten znany twórca krakowski wykorzystywał motywy antyczne, historyczne, religijne, nawiązywał do tradycji romantycznej oraz do teorii teatru R. Wagnera i M. Maeterlincka. Niniejszy temat nie był nigdy obiektem osobnych badań, swego rodzaju wstępem do nich były publikacje Andrzeja Romanowskiego o wileńskim życiu teatralnym [Romanowski 1999] oraz publikacja autorki artykułu poświęcona stuleciu wystawienia w Wilnie Wesela Wyspiańskiego [Fedorowicz 2009]. Tym razem badania zostały poszerzone o inne dramaty tego autora, podstawowym źródłem informacji jest lokalna prasa wileńska oraz nieliczne materiały archiwalne.

Este artículo analiza los puntos de contacto, similitudes e influencias que existieron a comienzos del siglo XX entre las políticas de reforma impulsadas en España y Argentina para enfrentar la llamada cuestión social. Gira alrededor de los intelectuales, funcionarios y políticos que las impulsaron, para lo cual pone en diálogo dos iniciativas específicas de reforma laboral llevadas adelante en ambos países en unos años clave para sus respectivas historias sociales (1900- 1905). Se trata, por un lado, de la propuesta de creación del Instituto del Trabajo en 1902, impulsado por el exministro de Agricultura, José Canalejas y Méndez, que si bien no se concretó dio lugar, dos años más tarde, al Instituto de Reformas Sociales de España; por otro, del proyecto de ley Nacional del Trabajo promovido en 1904, por el ministro delInterior de Argentina, Joaquín V. González, que al igual que la propuesta española también fracasó al no ser tratado por el Parlamento, aunque derivó en la creación de las primeras leyes laborales en Argentina.

Axel Elof Jäderholm was born in Söderhamn, Sweden, on 24 July 1868. In 1888 he entered Uppsala Universitet, earning undergraduate (1892) and doctorate (1898) degrees. His doctoral dissertation was based on an anatomical study of South American Peperomia (Piperaceae). While a graduate student he commenced research on hydroids in collections at the university's natural history museum. A science teacher by profession, he served schools in Uppsala (1900–1901), Norrköping (1901–1905; 1913–1927), Örebro (1905) and Västervik (1905–1913). In addition to teaching, he undertook research in botany (especially mosses) and zoology (hydroids). A focus of work between 1903 and 1905 involved examination of hydroid collections at the Naturhistoriska Riksmuseet (Stockholm) and the Imperial St Petersburg Academy of Sciences (Russia). Jäderholm's field work dealt largely with bryophytes, although his scientific publications (21 of 28) were mostly on taxonomy of hydroids. His hydroid work was mainly on species from northern Europe, the Antarctic and sub-Antarctic, southern regions of South America, and the western Pacific (especially Japan). He established two new genera and 69 new species of hydroids, a majority of the latter still being recognized as valid. Jäderholm was created a knight of the Order of the Polar Star (Riddare av Nordstjärneorden) in Sweden for accomplishments in science and education. After suffering a series of acute illnesses over the last two years of his life, he died in Norrköping on 5 March 1927 and was buried in Uppsala. Five species of hydroids have been named in his honour.

Lik i delo Miloja Vasića predstavljaju skup čpoštovanih opštih mestač srpske arheologije. Uzdignut na pijedestal rodonačelnika discipline s ikoničnim značajem, Miloje M. Vasić (1869-1956) se među srpskim arheolozima i u široj javnosti doživljava u skladu s opšteprihvaćenim i stereotipiziranim kanonom: da je u pitanju velikan srpske nauke, prvi srpski školovani arheolog, dugogodišnji profesor arheologije na Filozofskom fakultetu, upravnik Narodnog muzeja i istraživač jednog od najznačajnijih praistorijskih lokaliteta u Srbiji, neolitske Vinče. Namera mi je bila da radove Miloja M. Vasića iz perioda 1900-1908. pročitam u kombinovanom internalističko-eksternalistič- kom ključu istorije discipline, ali i da njegove lične motive i dileme i protumačim bez naslaga uobičajenih poštovanih opštih mesta. Još od 1906. Miloje Vasić marljivo izgrađuje svoju paradigmu u kojoj sve praistorijske lokalitete iz šire oblasti srpskog Podunavlja tumači u ključu egejskog sveta. Pri tome praistoriju na srpskom tlu ne smatra samo bledim odrazom udaljene mediteranske svetlosti, već punopravnim, mada siromašnijim ogrankom egejske porodice. Sva Vasićeva potonja pogrešna hronološka podešavanja i snižavanja datiranja Vinče i drugih praistorijskih lokaliteta isključivo su bila u funkciji izgrađivanja i učvršćivanja tog izmaštanog modela egejskog sveta na Dunavu i njegovog približavanja egejskoj i grčkoj matici. Još pre nego što je i započeo iskopavanje neolitske Vinče 1908. Miloje Vasić je bio čvrsto uveren u svoju zabludu da je taj lokalitet grandiozna emanacija bronzanog doba Egeje.

Niniejsze opracowanie prezentuje uniwersytecką karierę duchownego archidiecezji lwowskiej obrządku łacińskiego, ks. doc. dr. hab. Jana Ślósarza (1850-1917). Po uzyskaniu doktoratu z teologii w roku 1855 na Wydziale Teologicznym Uniwersytetu Wiedeńskiego, powrócił do Lwowa, pełniąc m.in. obowiązki katechety szkół średnich. Nie porzucił wszakże planów dalszych awansów naukowych. W latach 1886/87–1890/91 został zatrudniony na Wydziale Teologicznym Uniwersytetu Lwowskiego w charakterze adiunkta. W zastępstwie nieobecnych profesorów wykładał dorywczo kilka dyscyplin. I tak zimą 1888 r. zastępował wykładowcę Nowego Testamentu ks. prof. Józefa Watzkę. Wiosną 1889 r. zlecono mu wykłady Starego Testamentu w miejsce o. prof. Klemensa Sarnickiego OSBM. W 1890 r. zastąpił ks. prof. Józefa Delkiewicza na Katedrze Historii Kościoła. Równocześnie do tych zajęć, w latach 1888-1892 duchowny pełnił funkcję prefekta lwowskiego Seminarium Duchownego ob. łac., a następnie w latach 1892-1894 nauczyciela religii w V Gimnazjum, zaś w latach 1894-1905 katechety w Wyższej Szkole Realnej we Lwowie. Docelowym wszakże marzeniem ks. Ślósarza była profesura uniwersytecka. Zabiegał o nią już w roku 1895, kiedy wakowała Katedra Historii Kościoła, ale bezskutecznie. Ponownie podjął starania w roku 1900, otwierając przewód habilitacyjny w zakresie teologii pastoralnej na Uniwersytecie Lwowskim. Habilitację uzyskał bez większych trudności, a jej zatwierdzenie przez Ministerstwo Wyznań i Oświaty nastąpiło w 1891 r. Katedra Teologii Pastoralnej była wszakże zajęta, choć po śmierci jej kierownika w 1902 r. pojawiła się realna nadzieja. Otrzymał wprawdzie zastępstwo wakującej katedry, ale bez nominacji na jej kierownictwo. Pomimo podjęcia starań o tę schedę, ks. Ślósarz bezapelacyjnie przegrał konkurencję z dysponującym tak praktycznym doświadczeniem pastoralnym, jak i znaczącym dorobkiem pisarskim i organizacyjnym ks. doc. Alojzym Jouganem. Na otarcie łez powierzono mu w latach 1901-1903 wykłady zlecone w minimalnym wymiarze godzin na temat Sakramentu Pokuty. Zrażony niepowodzeniami ks. Ślósarz skierował się ku innej sferze działalności; mianowicie w roku 1904 r. otrzymał nominację na kanonika gremialnego Kapituły Metropolitalnej we Lwowie, piastując tę godność przez ostatnie 13 lat swego życia.

The species described in this paper belongs to the subgenus Dartia Soar, 1917 in the genus Nilotonia Thor, 1905 of the family Anisitsiellidae Koenike, 1910, which increases the number of known water mite families in the Chinese fauna to eighteen.

The article analyzes the approaches to nature management of two departments responsible for the development of Siberia in the Russian Empire and the USSR: the Resettlement Administration and the Council for the Study of Productive Forces (Sovet po izucheniyu proizvoditel’nyh sil — SOPS). Both structures were established in the late imperial period, carried out practice-oriented research on the outskirts for the purpose of economic planning and development of Asian regions, and then, to varying degrees, were integrated into the Soviet system. Comparison of the views of the experts from these two structures makes it possible to reveal the peculiarities of understanding the problems of nature management in the late imperial and late Soviet periods, the development of Asian regions, continuity and gaps between the two regimes. Studying the approaches of the Resettlement Administration and SOPS to nature management demonstrates that the development of Siberia was a way to build not only a new society, but also new approaches to the interaction between society and the environment. The article concludes that the goals of the experts of the Resettlement Administration and SOPS were not purely commercial in nature, their expertise contributed to the solution of political, social, environmental issues, such as the shortage of land in the European part of the Russian Empire; the danger of transferring this problem to the east; dependence on resource exports; uneven distribution of hazardous industries and the associated with it excessive concentration of pollution in industrialized regions. Thus, the deconcentration of the population and industries and their more even distribution, according to the experts, would not only contribute to the development of regions on the periphery, but also weaken environmental problems in the center.

У дослідженні зосереджено увагу на висвітленні питання про діяльність Асоціації американських медичних коледжів під час реформи медичної освіти США у 1901–1905 рр. Зокрема, розглянуто поправки до статті ІІІ конституції Асоціації, що було внесено впродовж 1901–1905 рр.; систематизовано та представлено загальні резолюції (рекомендації) засідань Асоціації у зазначений період. Визначено, що статтю ІІІ конституції Асоціації американських медичних коледжів присвячено вимогам для вступу до медичних шкіл США. Вдалося встановити, що на щорічних засіданнях Асоціації спеціально призначений комітет переглядав вказану статтю, враховуючи тогочасний стан медичної освіти та якість надання медичних послуг американському народу. Крім того, введено у вітчизняний науковий обіг чотири варіанти статті ІІІ конституції Асоціації американських медичних коледжів (1901–1905 рр.), виконано їх порівняльний аналіз. З’ясовано, що Асоціація не завжди ухвалювала загальні резолюції (рекомендації) засідань, про що свідчить їх відсутність у 1902, 1903 та 1905 рр.

Buday Árpád (1879–1937) Pósta Béla saját nevelésű munkatársai sorában a legelső. Az Erdélyi Múzeum-Egyesület választmánya a másodéves diákot 1899. október 1-jei hatállyal az Érem- és Régiségtár szakdíjnokává, 1900. április 1-jétől pedig első gyakornokává választotta. 1901-ben mint negyedéves hallgatót a régészeti intézet megbízott tanársegédévé választották. 1903-ban történelem–latin szakos tanári oklevelet szerzett. 1906-ban az egyetemi intézethez és az egyesületi tárakhoz szolgálattételre berendelt okleveles középiskolai tanárrá nevezték ki. A következő évben summa cum laude fokozattal régészet fő- és ókori történelem, művészettörténelem mellékszakokból bölcsészdoktorrá avatták. 1911-ben magántanári képesítést szerzett, 1917-ben pedig címzetes nyilvános rendkívüli tanárrá nevezték ki. Szakkörökben úgy tekintettek rá, mint egy hamarosan létesítendő egyetemes ókori történeti és régészeti tanszék vezetői tisztének várományosára. Pósta a provinciális római élet, a Torma Károly által elindított limeskutatás felé irányította tanítványa lépteit. Itthoni felkészülését külföldi tanulmányokkal mélyítette el. Pósta halála után az EME választmánya őt bízta meg az Érem- és Régiségtár igazgatásával. 1924-ben Szegedre költözött, amelynek egyetemén mestere szellemében elindította a régészképzést. Ám választott kutatási területétől elszakadt.

El presente trabajo examina el contenido de las Memorias Económico-Administrativas de la Junta de Obras del Puerto de Cartagena (en adelante JOP) al comienzo del siglo XX, con el fin de analizar en la esfera de la contabilidad pública sus prácticas administrativas y contables para el reflejo de su actividad económica durante el periodo 1900-1905, espacio temporal que estuvo claramente marcado por la publicación de legislación de índole administrativa y contable (Reales Decreto de 1901 y 1903) para procurar la normalización de la información de naturaleza económica por parte de dichas entidades, contribuyendo de esta manera a concretar pautas precisas para una gestión más eficaz de la información económico-financiera, lo que justifica la elección de dicho periodo temporal.Dado que las JOPs debían rendir sus Memorias ante el Ministerio de Fomento, del cual dependían jerárquicamente, el trabajo incluye también un análisis puntual de su gestión comparada respecto de las pautas establecidas actualmente por dicho Ministerio en cuanto al funcionamiento de las actuales Autoridades Portuarias (en adelante AAPP), nueva denominación acuñada desde 1992 respecto de las antiguas JOPs.

The period of 1900-1903 saw three phases of cooperation between the Rus?sian Secret Service (Okhrana) and King Alexander Obrenovic of Serbia. It is safe to say that the Secret Service operated in Serbia as an extended arm of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, i.e. of its diplomatic mission in Belgrade. Its goal was to fortify the position of Russia in Serbia after King Alexander?s wedding and the departure of his father, ex-King Milan (who abdicated in 1889 in favour of his minor son), from the country. The Serbian King, however, benefited little from the cooperation, because he did not receive assistance from the Secret Service when he needed it most. Thus, the issue of conspiracy against his life was lightly treated throughout 1902 until his assassination in 1903. In the third and last period of cooperation, from the beginning of 1902 until the King?s assassination on 11 June 1903,1 the Russian ministries of Internal and Foreign Affairs forbade the agents to receive money from the Serbian King and relieved them of any duty regarding the protection of his life.

Приказан је начин дипломатске комуникације две државе, која се у то време највише одвијала преко њихових посланстава у Цариграду. Посебну важност имала је посета персијског шаха Музафер ал Дин Каџара Краљевини Србији 1900. године. Такође је указано на значај отварања персијског посланства у Букурешту 1902. за односе између две државе. То посланство било је задужено за краљевине Србију, Румунију и Грчку. У периоду од 1889. до 1903. године настављена је и пракса размене високих државних одликовања, успостављена 1878. године.

The article is devoted to the history of the Moscow magazine “Construction and Decorative Art”, which played a significant role in Russian art criticism in 1903, despite its short (within six months) existence. This topic needs to be addressed due to the small number of comprehensive studies in the field of Russian art criticism of the early 20th century. On the basis of archival materials of censorship, the article reconstructs the creation circumstances of two homogeneous magazines (“Architecture and Decorative Art”, renamed “Free Art”, and “Construction and Decorative Art”) and their actual transformation into one press organ. There is examined the rapprochement of the architects Vasily Borin and Leonid Betelev with the scandalous journalist Alexey Filippov, their struggle for the permission to publish a new Moscow magazine about art in 1900—1902, the patronizing attitude of the Main Directorate for Press Affairs and the Moscow Governor-General to the new initiative of Filippov. The author introduces into scientific circulation important recorded sources related to the transfer of the rights to publish the magazine to Vasily Borin, and his attempt to pass off the former magazine of Filippov and Betelev as his own (hitherto non-existent) magazine “Free Art”. The article analyzes three issues of the illustrated magazine “Construction and Decorative Art” published in 1903. Basing on the data on the magazine’s format and prices, the author concludes that the publication turned out to be expensive and, therefore, unprofitable. The article pays particular attention to the views of Borin and Filippov on the development of contemporary art, Art Nouveau, and the activities of the artists of the group “Mir Iskusstva” (“World of Art”). In the context of a meaningful analysis of the magazine’s articles, there is discussed the honoring of the architect Nikolai Nikitin in connection with his anniversary. The author poses the question of how the issues of “Free Art” at the end of 1903 should be assessed. There are analyzed the causes for the mysterious closure of both the magazines in 1904—1905, which was not formalized in accordance with the law.

The Palaearctic species of the genus Pristaulacus Kieffer, 1900 are revised and illustrated for the first time. Twenty-one valid species are recognized. Two new species are described: P. edoardoi Turrisi, sp. nov., from Crete Island and Greece, and P. paglianoi Turrisi, sp. nov., from Morocco and Tunisia. Four new synonymies are proposed: Aulacus (Pristaulacus) holtzi Schulz, 1906 = P. compressus (Spinola, 1808) (syn. nov.); P. bimaculatus arozarenae Ortega & Baez, 1985 = P. galitae (Gribodo, 1879) (syn. nov.); Aulacus sibiricola Semenow, 1892 = P. gibbator (Thunberg, 1822) (syn. nov.); P. holzschuhi Madl, 1990 = P. gloriator (Fabricius, 1804) (syn. nov.). The following synonymies are confirmed on the basis of the study of type material: P. obscuripennis Westwood, 1841 = P. compressus (Spinola, 1808); P. bimaculatus Kieffer, 1900 and P. immaculatus Kieffer, 1904 = P. galitae (Gribodo, 1879). Three nomina nuda: A. beckeri Tournier, 1911, A. plurimaculatus Tournier, 1911, and A. transversostriatus Tournier, 1911, previously assigned to the genus Aulacus, are all synonyms of P. compressus (Spinola, 1808) (syn. nov.). The previously unknown male of P. boninensis Konishi, 1990 is described. Lectotypes and paralectotypes of P. comptipennis Enderlein, 1912, P. immaculatus Kieffer, 1904, and P. bimaculatus arozarenae Ortega & Baez, 1985 are designated. A key to species and distributional maps are also provided.

In 1900– 1908 “Masis” appeared as a literary weekly being one of the best Armenian publications in the field. Thanks to editors T. Arpiaryan and A. Enovqn, western Armenian representatives of literary and literary criticism genre (e.g., Gr. Zohrap, M. Metsarents, R. Sevak, Art. Harutyunyan, Z. Esayan, A. Antonyan, E. Temirchipashyan, H. Alpiar, T. Chyokuryan and others) united around “Masis” promoting the development of Armenian literature. “Masis” brought forward its vision and preferences introducing its readers not only to the national artistic values but also to other nations’ literary and aesthetic movements (e.g., realism, romanticism, symbolism, decadence, etc.) In its publications about the development of the national literature, the weekly paper aimed at difference in length of sight through the reflection of general outlook of the state–of–the–art literary and aesthetic perceptions.

Abstract Background Although early proponents for each of the four basic articles of operating room clothing—gowns, caps, masks, and gloves—can be identified, it is unclear from historical commentaries when each article achieved general acceptance and was consistently worn by surgeons and by anesthesia providers. Methods Historical photographs were identified from the Web sites of the National Library of Medicine, Google, and the archives of the Wood Library-Museum of Anesthesiology for the 11 decades 1860 to 1970. The presence or absence of each article of clothing was then determined for the surgical and anesthesia providers depicted. Results Over 1,000 photographs were identified and examined. Photographs were then eliminated for repetition, lack of available dating, questionable dating, and poor quality. In 338 remaining photographs that met inclusion criteria, 640 surgical providers and 219 anesthesia providers were depicted and used in the analysis. Statistical definitions for historical terms general acceptance and routine use were proposed. The probability that a surgeon was wearing nonstreet clothes (gown) was 0.66 (95% CI, 0.22 to 0.93) in 1863. The years (95% lower bound to 95% upper bound) associated with a 0.5 probability for wearing cap, gloves, and mask were 1900 (1896 to 1904), 1907 (1903 to 1910), and 1916 (1913 to 1919), respectively. The years associated with a 0.5 probability that an anesthesia provider would be wearing nonstreet clothes (gown), cap, and mask were 1883 (1863 to 1889), 1905 (1900 to 1911), and 1932 (1929 to 1937), respectively. Conclusion Timelines for the adoption of each basic article of surgical attire by surgeons and anesthesia providers were determined by analysis of historical operating room photographs from 1863 to 1969.

Whereas Emile Durkheim (1858-1917) has long been envisioned as a structuralist, quantitative, and positivist sociologist, some materials that Durkheim produced in the later stages of his career—namely, Moral Education (1961 [1902-1903]), The Evolution of Educational Thought (1977 [1904-1905]), The Elementary Forms of the Religious Life (1915 [1912]), and Pragmatism and Sociology (1983 [1913-1914]) attest to a very different conception of sociology—one with particular relevance to the study of human knowing, acting, and interchange. Although scarcely known in the social sciences, Emile Durkheim’s (1993 [1887]) “La Science Positive de la Morale en Allemagne” [“The Scientific Study of Morality in Germany”] is an exceptionally important statement for establishing the base of much of Durkheim’s subsequent social thought and for comprehending the field of sociology more generally. This includes the structuralist-pragmatist divide and the more distinctively humanist approach to the study of community life that Durkheim most visibly develops later (1961 [1902-1903]; 1977 [1904-1905]; 1915 [1912]; 1983 [1913-1914]) in his career.
