Résumé :

Professor Maurice Cranston, who died suddenly on 5 November 1993, was a man of many talents. Pre-eminent as a biographer of Locke and Rousseau, he was also distinguished for his own contribution to political philosophy and for his capacity to expound the political thought of others in clear, simple language. He did this with great success not only in the lecture room but also in numerous broadcast talks and discussions, notably on the Third Programme (later called Radio 3) of the BBC. In his academic work he was particularly well informed on French political thought, contemporary as much as classical, and he wrote extensively on Sartre and more briefly on Camus and Foucault. He was himself fluent in the French language (though he spoke it with a pronounced English accent) and he translated Rousseau's Social Contract and Discourse on Inequality for the Penguin Classics series. He was proficient in German and Italian too, and he knew enough Danish to translate a book on Wittgenstein written in that language. His love of literature often led him to illustrate philosophical points with apt examples from classical novels. He even wrote a couple of novels (of detection) himself in his youth. It will be plain from this brief catalogue that he was an eminently civilized person. He was, in addition, an exceptionally friendly man and engagingly modest about his own abilities.

Abstract A total of 166 species of Agromyzidae have been recorded from the Muránska planina National Park in the Gemer region in Central Slovakia during surveys of Diptera in years 2012–2019. Abstract Stephomyia Tavares, 1916 comprises seven species, all Neotropical: S. clavata (Tavares, 1920); S. epeugeniae Gagné, 1994; S. espiralis Maia, 1993; S. mina Maia, 1993; S. rotundifoliorum Maia, 1993; S. tetralobae Maia, 1993; and S. eugeniae (Felt, 1913). In the present study, a cladistic analysis based upon adult, pupa, larva and gall morphological characters as well as host plant data is carried out in order to discuss the monophyly of the genus and the relationships among the known species. The Stephomyia monophyly was supported by eight synapomorphies: five homoplastic characters and three non-homoplastic characters. Analyzes showed S. clavata with great instability within the genus, probably due to lack of larva, pupa and female data, so S. clavata was deactivated in analyze. The topology found was (S. mina ((S. eugeniae + S. epeugeniae) (S. tetralobae (S. rotundifoliorum + S. espiralis)))).

Résumé :

This article presents a new tree-ring chronology of Schrenk spruce (Picea schrenkiana Fisch. et Mey.) developed based on the samples collected at the upper tree limit of the northern Tien Shan (southeastern part of Kazakhstan). The correlation analysis with daily climate data revealed that precipitation in the period from the previous July 8th to November 5th is the main limiting factor of tree-growth r = 0.648 (p<0.05). The obtained chronology was used to reconstruct precipitation in the period from 1829 to 2016. The reconstruction explains 41% of the variance in instrumental precipitation records during the calibration period 1948-1987. The reconstruction revealed six extreme years (± 2σ). Extreme drought years were detected in 1846, 1886, and 1912, and extreme wet years were detected in 1879, 1917, and 1920. Both the occurrence of extreme years and variation of increase/decrease of the amount of precipitation changed significantly during the last 70 years. The amount of precipitation increased in the periods 1829-1843, 1856-1869, 1880-1905, 1920-1935, 1946-1955 and 1978-1993 and decreased in 1843-1856, 1869-1880, 1905-1920, 1935-1946, 1955-1978 and 1993-2016. The Morlet wavelet analysis revealed ~2-4, ~5-7, and ~10-16 year cycles, indicating a possibility to connect the precipitation variability in the study area with the oscillations of certain atmospheric circulation indices. The study provides new information for understanding high-mountain environmental changes in the northern Tien Shan.

Résumé :

In about 1920, Miss Edith Hodson set up a draper’s and haberdasher’s shop at the family home in front of her brother Edgar’s lock factory in the Midlands town of Willenhall. This article explains how the author became involved with the shop’s remaining stock and looks at some of the customers’ experiences of it. It goes on to describe the collection of clothes and related items, mostly comprising working-class women’s and children’s garments and accessories from 1920 to the early 1960s. The collection includes Utility pieces, quantities of haberdashery, and costume jewellery and cosmetics of the 1950s. A large archive has also been preserved of the shop’s paperwork (bills, invoices, bank statements, correspondence), warehouse catalogues, advertising pamphlets and women’s magazines. The ownership of the collection was passed to Walsall Museum in February 1993.

The Ryazan gastroenterological school was formed in the sixties and seventies of the twentieth century. It was during these years that clinical schools of surgeons (Professor A. L. Gushcha), pediatricians (Professor N. V. Dmitrieva), therapists (Professor V. Ya. Garmash), and pharmacologists (Professor A. A. Nikulin) were formed in Ryazan. In 1967, Professor A. M. Nogaller came to Ryazan from the Astrakhan Medical Institute. (1920-2021), who from 1967 to 1993 headed the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases of the Ryazan Medical Institute / Academician I. P. Pavlov.

The Coordination Function. The growing diversification of international affairs, and thereforce the development of central administration in the ministry of Foreign Affairs hâve created the need for an instance able to exercise authority upon the whole range of the ministry’ s services. Since the permanent set up of a General Secrétariat in 1920, its rôle and place have varied. Internai service régulations in the department do not explicitly mention this coordinating function which results from a sériés of practices and traditions. The reform of the Ministry of Foreign affairs in september 1993 has confirmed and reinforced the General Secretary’s coordinating rôle.

En el presente artículo se ha juntado el estudio del financiamiento fiscal en su relación con la atención del Estado a la educación, en tanto necesidad pública. Su desarrollo, de enfoque teórico e histórico, revela una política estatal como constante histórica, en virtud de la cual se ha mantenido una prioridad por el pago de la deuda pública sacrificando y subordinando la atención de la educación a la disponibilidad de los escasos recursos fiscales que quedaban con la grave afectación de los sectores de la población que resultan marginados de este derecho, a la vez del incumplimiento del ideal de la Independencia. Para este objeto se ha analizado, teórica y doctrinalmente, los artículos correspondientes de las Constituciones del Perú de 1823, 1920 y 1993. Palabras claves: Deuda pública, educación, constitución, independencia, centenario, bicentenario. Abstract This article gathers research on public financing focusing on the attention the government gives to education as a public need. Its development approach is both theoretical and historical and reveals a public policy ever so constant. This is a consequence of priorities being set on the payment of public debt, sacrificing and leaving education relegated as a result of scarce fiscal resources, thus profoundly affecting several sectors of the population, thereby excluding them from this right as well as from the ideal of independence. To achieve this purpose, articles from the 1823, 1920 and 1993 Peruvian Constitutions have been analyzed from a theoretical and doctrinal point of view. El presente trabajo tiene el propósito de analizar los espacios laberínticos de los castillos en la manera en que se presentan en las siguientes películas: Ojo del diablo (1966) de J. Lee Thompson (Inglaterra, 1914-2002), basada en la novela Día de la flecha (1964) de Philip Loraine (Inglaterra, 1920-2002), y La novena puerta (1999) de Roman Polanski (Francia, 1933), basada en la novela El Club Dumas (1993) de Arturo Pérez Reverte (España, 1951). En estas películas, las imágenes de castillos recrean simbólicamente los enigmas planteados en los conflictos de los personajes para proyectar una presencia elusiva y ubicua constituyendo un portal hacia lo desconocido.

Nyctimantis Boulenger, 1882 was considered a monotypic genus for over a century. In a recent phylogenetic analysis of the Lophyohylini tribe with more than 96% of its representatives, Nyctimantis was redefined with the well-supported inclusion of some species from the genus Aparasphenodon, Argenteohyla and Corythomantis (Blotto et al. 2020). Therefore, the genus Nyctimantis currently consists of seven described species: N. arapapa (Pimenta, Napoli & Haddad, 2009); N. bokermanni (Pombal, 1993); N. brunoi (Miranda-Ribeiro, 1920); N. galeata (Pombal, Menezes, Fontes, Nunes, Rocha & Van Sluys, 2012); N. pomba (Assis, Santana, Silva, Quintela & Feio, 2013); N. rugiceps Boulenger (1882) and N. siemersi (Mertens, 1937).

В статье на основе ретроспективного анализа правового института юридической помощи делается вывод, что его развитие сопряжено с определенными этапами формирования уголовно-процессуального законодательства, в частности судебной реформы 1864 г., кодификацией уголовно-процессуального законодательства в 1920-х гг., конституционными положениями 1977 г. и 1993 г. В настоящее время содержательная сторона и формальная реализация норм о получении и оказании квалифицированной юридической помощи в большой степени определены нормами отраслевого законодательства (уголовно-процессуального и уголовно-исполнительного), которое не согласуется с нормами законодательства об адвокатуре и адвокатской деятельности. Having conducted the retrospective analysis of legal assistance, the authors conclude that its development is associated with certain stages of the formation of criminal procedure legislation, in particular the 1864 judicial reform, the codification of criminal procedure legislation in the 1920s, and the constitutional provisions of 1977 and 1993. Currently, the substantive side and the formal implementation of the norms on obtaining and providing qualified legal assistance are largely determined by norms of the sectoral legislation (criminal procedure and penal), which is not consistent with the norms of legislation on advocacy and practice of law.

The socialist ideas of Russian Revolution were well-known in Peru, according with the struggles of working-class and student movements and the birth of socialist and communist parties. But the Peruvian Constitutions of 1920 and 1993 only opened someone social rights, not only for the workers, but also for the indigenous people to protect their community territories. Only with the Constitution of 1979 the leftwing constituents were almost one third of the constituents. In this way the Constitution included social ideas in the type of State as social and democratic Rule of Law, the equal rights between all persons, particularly between men and women, the employment was protect by the State, the public education cost-free, the property had a social function, the natural resources were of the Nation, and the indigenous and Amazonian communities were protected, etc. But, with the neoliberal Constitution of 1993 the economic model was liberalized in favor of the market and the international investors, reducing the social rights, and the national power was centralized in the Executive Power. But, since 2000, after the fall-down of Fujimori’s regimen, the Constitutional Court played a role of balanced the impact of this new model, according with the international treaties of human rights and social rights. In this sense, the Constitutional Court was able to give the Constitution of 1993 a social content.

O povo mapuche do Chile faz parte desse país que lhe impõe o espanhol como língua nacional. A pesquisa foca os processos históricos da língua do povo indígena mapuche do Chile e seus processos de escolarização a partir da incorporação desse povo pelo Estado-nação chileno. Para tal, buscou-se os sentidos mobilizados no discurso governamental, quando se fala desses processos históricos. Na pesquisa analisamos – na ótica discursiva francesa – as leis de Educação de 1860, de 1920 e a Lei Indígena 19.253 de 1993. Mas, o foco deste artigo está nos significados da Lei Indígena, que nos permitirão localizar a discussão sobre as tentativas de Educação Intercultural Bilíngüe – EIB, e sobre os processos de escolarização no Chile hoje.

O presente trabalho se propôs a tecer discussões teórico-analíticas sobre uma linguística que se instaura dialogicamente, em que a linguagem é delineada tanto a partir dos mecanismos linguísticos estruturais quanto por meio de discursos que se circunscrevem no social. Para tanto, fundamentamo-nos nos pressupostos teórico-metodológicos de Bakhtin (1993 [1920-1924]), 2006 [1979]), Volochínov (2017 [1929]) e Medviédev (2016 [1928]), na medida em que se articulam as principais produções presentes em seus escritos sobre dialogismo, língua e discurso. Nesse sentido, tivemos que 2) tecer considerações sobre uma linguística que se inscreve dialogicamente nos domínios da linguagem e 3) analisar um enunciado bíblico neotestamentário sob os pilares da arquitetônica discursiva bakhtiniana.

The paper evaluates the growth, structure, production, quality, leaf area index and dendrochronology of 100 years old Austrian pine (Pinus nigra ARNOLD) monoculture situated in the forest type group Fageto-Quercetum in the locality Horné Lefantovce (Nitrianska Streda Forest District, Topoľčianky Forest Enterprise). Codominant trees, trees with stem of high quality, with medium-sized crown, medium dense and straight crown are the most abundant in the stand. The tree number in the stand is 1,024 trees/ha, basal area 51.75 m2/ha, growing stock 571.56 m3/ha, aboveground biomass stock 348.76 t/ha and leaf area index 21.85 ha/ha. Dendrochronological analyses examined the response in individual sample trees and minimum annual ring width was found in 1920, 1922, 1925, 1929, 1933, 1938, 1944, 1946, 1947, 1949, 1952, 1954, 1963, 1968, 1976, 1982, 1990, 1993, 1998, 2001. Marked maximum values of annual ring width in the years 1919, 1923, 1926, 1930, 1936, 1937, 1941, 1948, 1951, 1955, 1959, 1966, 1972, 1975, 1980, 1985, 1997 were found as a positive productive feature. Beginning in the year 1993, dry Austrian pine trees occurred in the stand as a result of the fungal infection by Sphaeropsis sapinea (Fr.) Dyko et Sutton.

A great deal of confusion exists on how to discuss, and theoretically characterize, political developments in India during the last decade and a half. There is, of course, a consensus that the Congress party, a towering political colossus between 1920 and 1989, has unambiguously declined. While there are legitimate doubts about whether the decline of the Congress party will continue to be irreversible, it is clear that much of the political space already vacated by the Congress has so far been filled by three different sets of political forces. The first force, Hindu nationalism, has attracted a great deal of scholarly attention (Basu 1997; Hansen and Jaffrelot 1998; Jaffrelot 1993; Varshney 1993). The second force, regionalism, has also spawned considerable research of late (Baruah 1999; Singh forthcoming; Subramanian 1999). A third force, not so extensively analyzed, covers an array of political parties and organizations that encompass groups normally classified under the umbrella category of “lower castes”: the so-called scheduled castes, the scheduled tribes, and the “other backward classes” (OBCs). How should we understand the politics of parties representing these groups? How far will they go? What are the implications of their forward march, if it does take place, for Indian democracy?

Este artigo aborda a trajetória da gravadora Festa, criada na década de 1950, no Rio de Janeiro, por Irineu Garcia (1920-1984). Entre 1955 e 1971, tendo à frente Garcia, o selo fonográfico gravou dezenas de discos de literatura (poesia, prosa, teatro) e de música erudita e popular, sobretudo de autores brasileiros. Apesar das dificuldades enfrentadas por Festa no sentido de viabilizar sua produção, principalmente na década de 1960, essa iniciativa contribuiu para sinalizar a existência de um nicho fonográfico no país voltado para produções ditas refinadas do ponto de vista cultural e ajudou a pavimentar o caminho para o surgimento nas décadas posteriores de gravadoras voltadas para uma fatia ignorada pelo mercado de discos no Brasil, a exemplo da Discos Marcus Pereira (1972), Eldorado (1977), Kuarup (1977) e Biscoito Fino (1993).

Se várias gerações passadas foram influenciadas pelas criações de Ray Harryhausen (1920-2013), as novas gerações que se interessam por animação sofrem a influência direta de Tim Burton (1958-). Não apenas pelo fascínio da técnica, como também pelos traços, cores e formas contidas na filmografia do cineasta. Uma das principais estratégias narrativas utilizadas por Burton para construir seus universos particulares e excêntricos concentra-se na concepção visual, destacando-se o recurso da cor. Interessa aqui compreender de que forma Burton concebe a utilização da cor em seus dois projetos pessoais realizados na técnica de stop-motion, a saber: O Estranho Mundo de Jack (The Nightmare Before Christmas – EUA – 1993), de Henry Selick, e A Noiva Cadáver (Corpse Bride – EUA/Reino Unido – 2005), direção de Burton e Mike Johnson

The species of six genera (Atanycolus Foerster, Craspedolcus Enderlein, Ectemnoplax Enderlein, Shelfordia Cameron, Stenobracon Szépligeti and Vipio Latreille) of the subfamily Braconinae (Hymenoptera, Braconidae) from China are revised and 29 species are recognized, including 11 new species (Atanycolus carinatus sp. nov., A. longiquus sp. nov., A. maculipennis sp. nov., A. setosus sp. nov., Craspedolcus maculithorax sp. nov., C. nigrabdominalis sp. nov., Ectemnoplax bimaculosus sp. nov., Shelfordia fulva sp. nov., S. obscuripennis sp. nov., Stenobracon (Stenobracon) longatus sp. nov. and Vipio abnormis sp. nov.), which are described and illustrated. Ectemnoplax xizanginensis Wang, Chen et He, 2006, is proposed as a syn. nov. of E. peruliventris Enderlein, 1920. Two species, Shelfordia longicaudata van Achterberg, 1993, and Vipio mongolicus Telenga, 1936, are reported from China for the first time. Keys to the Chinese species of the genera Atanycolus, Craspedolcus, Ectemnoplax, Shelfordia, Stenobracon and Vipio are provided.

Abstract Often praised for its cinematic artistry and faithfulness to the homonymous novel (Edith Wharton, 1920), The Age of Innocence (Martin Scorsese, 1993) is sometimes seen, however, as a reminder of the perils of voice-over narration in fiction films (Herman). By examining its use in relation to notions of novel adaptation (Whelehan; Leitch) and approaching irony in the film as a rhetorical device (Booth; Hutcheon; MacDowell), this article counterpoints the opinion (Travers; Cahir) that the voice-over narration might have decreased the dramatic potency of Scorsese’s work. In doing so, two main hypotheses emerged: (1) displaying a voice that purposefully invokes the novel’s author might have enhanced the degree of association between adaptation and source material, and (2) in deepening the viewers’ understanding of certain scenes by revealing inside information, the voice-over adds an ironic overlay to the film.

Una svolta nella ricerca sulla storia della psicoanalisi in Russia fu rappresentata dal libro di Alek-sandr Etkind Eros dell'impossibile, pubblicato in russo nel 1993, presto tradotto in varie lingue, e rivisto nel 2016 (versione sulla quale è stata condotta la traduzione italiana, apparsa nel 2020). A differenza degli studi precedenti, Etkind ebbe accesso agli archivi sovietici che erano stati aperti agli studiosi alla fine degli anni 1980 e poté così ricostruire il contesto sociale e politico che, prima e dopo la Rivoluzione bolscevica, aveva favorito lo sviluppo della psicoanalisi in Russia fino alla fine degli anni 1920. Nel libro era ampiamente illustrato il rapporto stretto tra la psicoanalisi e la cultura letteraria e filosofica in Russia nei primi due decenni del Novecento, un tema che era stato trascurato dagli studi occidentali, circoscritti alla storia della diffusione della psicoanalisi essen-zialmente dal punto di vista teorico.

O que se segue é uma apresentação e a tradução de Das Ziel alles Lebens ist der Tod - Schopenhauer und Freuds Todestrieb, de Marcel Zentner (Zürich), publicado em: RAINER, Specht (Org.). Archiv für Geschichte der Philosophie. Berlin: Walter de Gruyter, 1993, vol. 75, p. 319 – 340. Trata-se de um detalhamento dos problemas que envolvem o tópos criado por Freud de que, com seu dualismo dos instintos de vida e de morte, exposto em Além do princípio do prazer (1920), “desaguara no porto da filosofia de Schopenhauer”. As diferenças fundamentais desse dualismo com a dicotomia schopenhaueriana da afirmação e negação da Vontade merecem um esclarecimento pormenorizado – defende Zentner, para que não se perca de vista o fato de que a principal antecipação schopenhaueriana de Freud concerne, antes, ao complexo conceitual articulado em torno à primeira teoria dos instintos, a teoria da repressão e o “modelo estrutural da psique”.

Psychodidae Newman, 1834 is a large family of small, hairy nematoceran dipterans, comprising more than 2,600 described extant species. It is currently subdivided into seven subfamilies: Bruchomyiinae Alexander, 1920, Horaiellinae Enderlein, 1936, Phlebotominae Rondani, 1840, Psychodinae Newman, 1834, Sycoracinae Jung, 1954, Trichomyiinae Tonnoir, 1922, and the fossil subfamily Protopsychodinae Stebner et al., 2015. Some authors consider the group to consist of two families, i.e., Psychodidae and Phlebotomidae (Williams, 1993; Azar et al., 1999). This fact is founded only on the hematophagous and medically important aspects of the phlebotomines, nevertheless this arrangement is unfounded, because the phylogenetic relationships between the psychodid subfamilies remain unresolved, even if there is a possible sister-group relationship between the Phlebotominae and Psychodinae (Curler & Moulton, 2012). We consider recognizing phlebotomines as a separate family would necessitate also giving separate familial status to all the currently recognized subfamilies, which is not adopted here.
