Roquefortine C (ROC) and mycophenolic acid (MPA) are secondary metabolites produced by various fungal species. It is known that both ROC and MPA may co-occur in raw materials or food. However, to date there is a lack of information regarding their toxicity. In this study, ROC and/or MPA cytotoxicity was evaluated on human intestinal (Caco-2) and monocytic cell cultures (THP-1 and CD14+). After 48 h single mycotoxin exposure, viability tests showed that monocytes (THP-1 and CD14+) were more sensitive to ROC (inhibitory concentration 50% (IC50)=55 and 45 μM, respectively) than to MPA (IC50>78

The study reported here was designed to determine whether a phytoestrogen-containing soy extract (SSE) could negate/overwhelm the inhibitory effects of ICI 182 780 on the growth of estrogen-sustained human breast cancer xenografts (MCF-7), in ovariectomized athymic mice. As expected, estradiol-supplemented tumors did not grow over the study period in ICI 182 780-treated females; concomitant administration of 50 mg/kg per day SSE slightly potentiated the inhibitory activity of the drug, while at 100 mg/kg per day, SSE partially negated ICI 182 780 activity. Investigations were made for optimizing ZnTe as a THz detector at 1560-nm probe beam wavelength, and was compared with its performance at 780[Formula: see text]nm. Résumé :

We demonstrate a frequency modulated 780 nm Brillouin laser pumped by a semiconductor laser. We achieve a 1.4 kHz 1/p integral linewidth and 24 Hz fundamental linewidth and a 22 kHz modulation bandwidth.

Visible, red emitting vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) [1] in the wavelength regime between 650 and 780 nm are very attractive light sources in low cost optical interconnects with on polymer optical fibers (POFs). We have fabricated GaAs-based 780 nm emission wavelength VCSELs using solid source MBE and p-type Carbon doping. Single layer 30 nm thick oxide apertures provide current and optical confinement. Résumé :

We experimentally demonstrate frequency tuning of on-chip electrically-driven isolators at 780 nm via thermo-optic control. Coarse tuning of up to 1 nm (6 mode pairs) is demonstrated, and can increase the operational bandwidth of the device.

This research was aimed to develop an active film from chitosan film incorporated with green tea extract to enhance antioxidant and antimicrobial properties in order to be used for food shelf life extension.
