Résumé :
Collision is a common problem in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs). There are several backoff algorithms that have been proposed to avoid this problem. This paper proposes a new backoff algorithm called the Square Root Backoff (SRB). Moreover, it identifies that no algorithm can perform the best in all cases. Therefore, an adaptive strategy is proposed to choose the best backoff mechanism from a set of mechanisms based on network density and mobility parameters. The proposed adaptive algorithm is implemented in two phases, the offline phase and the online phase. Such design aims at reducing the

Résumé :
The performance of backoff algorithm plays an important role in designing efficient Medium Access Protocols for Ad hoc networks. In this paper, we propose three backoff algorithms for Ad hoc networks. The first algorithm aims at higher fairness, and the second aims at stronger adaptivity. Then, we combine the first two algorithms to propose an optimized backoff algorithm. We use NS2 to simulate Ad hoc network environment to evaluate the performance of our improved backoff algorithms. The results show that our algorithms exhibit a significant improvement in throughput and fairness with the exist

Résumé :
The media access control (MAC) protocol is a key element in the design of vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) that directly affects the network performance. The backoff schemes of existing MAC protocols apply the single backoff process and therefore are not suitable for multi-class data transmission. Additionally, they cannot satisfy the delay requirements of emergency data in the case of varying number of vehicles, causing an adverse effect to the intelligent transportation system (ITS). This paper presents a priority-based adaptive backoff scheme that can enhance the binary exponential backof

When congestion occurs in VDSL networks, it will drop incoming frames because the buffer fills up frames until it over°ows. In backpressure algorithm suitable for low traffic [1], it prevents buffer overflows. Abstract Optimizing WLAN performance in IEEE 802.11 network with extremely different working environments is a difficult task. We must use a network that can provide the most benefits to its end-users to improve network strength and data transmission. To increase performance in this congested situation, we construct an adaptive backoff algorithm for the IEEE 802.11 DCF that enhances in congested network conditions, system throughput is improved, the collision probability is reduced, and good fairness is maintained. Résumé :
The performance improvement in IEEE 802.11 WLANs in widely fluctuating network loads is a challenging task. To improve the performance in this saturated state, we develop an adaptive backoff algorithm that maximizes the system throughput, reduces the collision probability, and maintains a high fairness for the IEEE 802.11 DCF under dense network conditions. In this paper, we present two main advantages of the proposed ABA-CW algorithm. First, it estimates the number of active stations and then calculates an optimal contention window based on the active station number. Each station calculates t

In the 802.11 protocol, the fundamental medium access mechanism is called Distributed Coordination Function (DCF). In DCF, before making any transmission attempt, the nodes count down a timer with a value randomly selected from the Contention Window (CW) size. If the transmitted packet is involved in a collision, the node increases the CW size in an attempt to reduce the collision rate. Conversely, if the packet is transmitted successfully, the node reduces the CW size in order to increase the frequency of the transmission attempts. The growth or reduction in the CW size has a critical effect

However, according to recent research, legacy schemes are only appropriate in a network environment of low or high active nodes density. In mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), the number of active nodes changes dynamically. Thus, slow convergence of contention window (CW) could cause high collision and large delay. OFDM is widely used and has been adopted for current mobile broadband wireless communication systems such as IEEE 802.a/g wireless LANs, WiMAX, 3GPP LTE, and DVB-T/H digital video broadcasting systems. Despite their many advantages, however, OFDM-based systems suffer from potentially high peak-to-average power ratio (PAR).
