AbstractNatural systems agriculture is based on an understanding that natural systems are self-sustaining due to regulatory mechanisms and processes that help to ensure the long-term maintenance of the ecosystem. An agroecosystem modeled after nature should encompass greater stability and biodiversity at all levels of organization than an agroecosystem based on conventional agricultural practices. The main objective of this study was to determine whether agroecosystems modeled after nature exhibit advantages over conventional agroecosystems. Five treatments were examined: winter wheat (Triticu

The article analyzes the main approaches to assessing the stability of agrocenosis soils. It is revealed that the mechanisms of soil stability are embedded in the structure and nature of the connections between the biota and the abiotic parts of the system, as well as the intra-component and inter-component connections between them. It is established that the structure of the soil is the most important aspect of the stability of any agroecosystem, which persists when its conditions change. Résumé :
A study was conducted in an irrigated arid agroecosystem in southwestern USA, to compare two conservation tillage systems (strip tillage (ST) and no-tillage (NT)) to conventional, plow-based tillage (PT) system. Corn silage (Zea mays L.) was planted in this trial. Growth parameters (plant population and height) of corn silage were measured during the season and yield was evaluated at harvest. Soil physical measurements assessed included mean weight diameter of dry aggregates, wet aggregate stability, and penetrometer resistance. While soil biological measurements included total microbial bioma

In modern agriculture, climate change, environmental degradation, and natural resource depletion constitute one of the major potential issues for sustainable crop production and environmental management. Integrated pest management (IPM) is a promising technology for the environment. Insect pests and weeds have long posed a danger to rice production systems, resulting in severe output losses. Although insect, pest, and weed control has remained the most efficient plant protection tool, environmental risks have prompted scientists to propose alternate pest management options. Invasions of alien insect pests often result in dramatic shifts in the entire ecosystems brought about by severe outbreaks of the pests exploiting new and frequently defenseless host plants. The explosive population dynamics of invasive insects often enable them to outcompete native pest species and alter both the abundance and diversity of communities of their natural enemies. These impacts are probably the most conspicuous and notorious when the invaded host plant is a key commodity crop and the invasive pest an aphid (Hemiptera: Aphididae).
