The goal of the study is to analyse the outcomes of a questionnaire survey which concerns understandability of military language used on former Afghanistan missions. Two groups of respondents took part in the survey – 50 soldiers with experience from a foreign mission, 50 soldiers without such experience. The data have indicated that when it comes to decoding randomly generated expressions, an important role is mainly played by the soldiers' other foreign missions, professional specialisations, length of service, and close contact with the participants of the Afghan missions.

Dans cet article je soutiens la thèse, encore controversée dans l’Église, selon laquelle la situation historique produite par la mondialisation oblige l’Église à repenser sa mission dans le monde et à y déployer un ministère de réconciliation au service du bien commun universel. Je présente d’abord une analyse de la situation historique actuelle, que je complète par des réflexions bibliques, une analyse de l’évolution du magistère, des arguments contre le prosélytisme et finalement une théologie de la mission, guidée par l’appel divin à la réconciliation.

The success rate of currently performed CubeSat missions shows that despite their popularity, small satellites are still not as reliable as larger platforms. This research was conducted to analyse in-orbit experience from the KRAKsat mission and discuss methods for mission design and engineering that can increase CubeSats reliability and prevent their failures. The main purpose was to define best practices and rules that should be followed during mission development and operations to ensure its success based on the overview of the lessons learned from KRAKsat and problems encountered during its mission. This paper summarizes the experiences obtained and provides methods that can be used while carrying out future robust CubeSat projects. It was written to prove that there are some parts of the small satellite missions that are often neglected in the university-led projects and, by ensuring proper testing and planning before the actual mission, its reliability can increase. The following analysis could be used as a guide during the development of the next CubeSat projects.

En intégrant à nouveau le Ministère de l’Éducation Nationale en 1981, les acteurs de l’Éducation Physique et Sportive (EPS) se voient confier de nouvelles missions. Cet article interroge la participation des acteurs de l’EPS à une mission qui dépasse une réflexion strictement disciplinaire : la lutte contre le décrochage scolaire. Depuis 1981, une analyse de contenu des articles de la revue EP.S a été menée et a été enrichie par une analyse statistique des données textuelles des principaux textes officiels régissant la discipline. Seuls six articles de la revue traitent de la problématique du décrochage scolaire et aucun texte disciplinaire ne fait le lien entre décrochage scolaire et l’enseignement obligatoire de l’EPS. Les résultats de ces analyses croisées montrent que la problématique du décrochage scolaire, reste durant cette période, une mission scolaire oubliée des discours institutionnels et des pratiques professionnelles innovantes en EPS. Depuis 1981, la discipline EPS semble ancrée dans une logique disciplinaire contraignant l’engagement de ses acteurs dans des problématiques scolaires plus larges. Ces résultats interrogent la capacité des praticiens et des législateurs d’une discipline corporelle à répondre aux défis scolaires du moment.

SUMMARY The GRACE and GRACE-FO missions have been observing time variations of the Earth's gravity field for more than 15 yr. For a possible successor mission, the need to continue mass change observations have to be balanced with the ambition for monitoring capabilities with an enhanced spatial and temporal resolution that will enable improved scientific results and will serve operational services and applications. Various study groups performed individual simulations to analyse different aspects of possible NGGMs from a scientific and technical point of view. As these studies are not directly comparable due to different assumptions regarding mission design and instrumentation, the goal of this paper is to systematically analyse and quantify the key mission parameters (number of satellite pairs, orbit altitude, sensors) and the impact of various error sources (AO, OT models, post-processing) in a consistent simulation environment. Our study demonstrates that a single-pair mission with laser interferometry in a low orbit with a drag compensation system would be the only possibility within the single-pair options to increase the performance compared to the GRACE/GRACE-FO. Tailored post-processing is not able to achieve the same performance as a double-pair mission without post-processing. Also, such a mission concept does not solve the problems of temporal aliasing due to observation geometry. In contrast, double-pair concepts have the potential to retrieve the full AOHIS signal and in some cases even double the performance to the comparable single-pair scenario. When combining a double-pair with laser interferometry and an improved accelerometer, the sensor noise is, apart from the ocean tide modelling errors, one of the limiting factors. Therefore, the next big step for observing the gravity field globally with a satellite mission can only be taken by launching a double pair mission. With this quantification of key architecture features of a future satellite gravity mission, the study aims to improve the available information to allow for an informed decision making and give an indication of priority for the different mission concepts.

Il fait ressortir le besoin de redéfinition de la mission sociale de l’éducateur physique. Celle-ci doit s’appuyer sur des objectifs nouveaux émanant d’une philosophie nouvelle. Une triple mission sociale pourrait être adaptée pour réellement intégrer l’éducation physique dans la société. Des missions éducative, sanitaire et écologique sont développées. L’auteur retourne aux sources des concepts sous-jacents à ces trois volets. Ces solutions de rechange rendraient l’éducation physique socialement présente. Les éducateurs physiques sont-ils prêts pour une telle ouverture d’esprit?

Aim: Assesment of the preparedness of paramedics for mission trips. Evaluation of the mission as a place for professional development of paramedics. Assesment of the usefulness of the experience gained by paramedics on missions in working conditions in Poland. Analysing the attendance of paramedics on missions. Learning about personal opinions and experi¬ences of selected participants of missions. Material and Methods: The study was conducted between 01.2020 and 08.2020. The research group consisted of 20 paramedics of different ages. Data were collected using an electronic survey consisting of 22 questions and extended tel¬ephone interviews consisting of 33 questions. Statistical data obtained from the Redemptoris Missio Foundation were used to analyse attendance. Results: The majority of survey participants rated their preparation for their first mission at a score of 3 (f=0.45) or 4 (f=0.35) on a 5-point scale. The most frequently used skill was foreign language, with 9 (f=0.45) respondents using it all the time and 9 (f=0.45) using it frequently. The paramedics experienced the greatest development in the area of non-medical skills (f=0.6) and in foreign language use (f=0.5). Most of the respondents rated the usefulness of the experience gained as 5 (f=0.35) or 4 (f=0.25) on a 5-point scale. Analysis of the obtained statistical data showed very low attendance of paramedics on missions compared to other medical professions. The interviews provided an in-depth look into the feelings and opinions of selected paramedics regarding missions, which were mostly consistent or similar. Conclusions: The paramedics believe that they are sufficiently prepared to go on missions. Thanks to missions: they gain new experience, consolidate their knowledge and skills, exchange experience with medical personnel from all over the world. However, missions do not allow one to fully utilize their expertise in emer¬gency medicine. Experience gained abroad is proved to be useful for paramedics in working conditions of Polish health care system. Attendance of paramedics on missions is very low, but there are a lot of potential areas where their knowledge and skills could be used.

This paper explores how Korean migrant churches in Aotearoa New Zealand can find a balance between missions (understood as extending the Church) and Mission (construed as participation in the missio Dei), in relation to their sense of belonging. For this purpose, the research uses a qualitative methodology interview method guided by interpretivism. The paper begins by identifying key contextual factors related to Koreans in New Zealand as migrants, Christians and missional beings. The responses of 31 research participants regarding what constitutes a “sense of belonging” are analysed in terms of visible and invisible belonging. Visible belonging is associated with churches that have strong boundaries, and invisible belonging is found in one’s relationship with God; the two can be correlated with missions and Mission, respectively. The analysis suggests that a missional understanding can be a trigger for enabling interaction between visible belonging as missions and invisible belonging as Mission, through three missional concepts: purpose, progress and experience. Finally, the paper suggests practical ways that Korean churches in New Zealand can balance missions and Mission by following three missional guidelines.

Der Brief ist bekannt für seine Anweisungen an Sklaven, Ehemänner und Ehefrauen sowie für seine Ansichten zu Leiden, sozialer Gerechtigkeit und Führung in der Gemeinde. Nichtsdestoweniger legt dieser Artikel nahe, dass das soziale Engagement des 1. Petrusbriefs sein missionales Denken nicht ausschließt. Der Artikel nimmt die Herausforderung seitens zeitgenössischer Theologen zur Frage an, wie die Theologie des 1. Petrusbriefs sein soziales Engagement zu erhellen vermag. Er bietet eine missionale Lesart des Briefes, die aufzeigt, inwieweit der Petrus die Leser einlädt, an der Mission Gottes teilzuhaben, und vor allem, wie die missionale Strategie im Brief funktioniert. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit wird dabei den Haustafeln zuteil. Nach einer Analyse, welche Auswirkungen eine Nacherzählung der Mission Gottes in Christus für die Zuhörerschaft von Petrus hat, und einer Bewertung, welche Folgen ihre christliche Identität für ihre Teilhabe an dieser Mission hat, befasst sich der Artikel mit den Haustafeln. SUMMARY First Peter contains a number of themes that demonstrate the author’s burden for the Church. The letter is known for its instructions to slaves, husbands and wives, for its views on suffering, on social justice and on leadership in the Church. Yet this article suggests that the social engagement of 1 Peter also incorporates his missional thinking. The article takes up challenges from various contemporary scholars to analyse the question how the theology of 1 Peter informs this social engagement. It offers a missional reading of the letter which shows to what extent it invites the readers to participate in the mission of God and, more specifically, how Peter’s missional strategy works. Specific attention is paid to the household codes. After analysing the implications of re-telling the story of God’s mission in Christ for Peter’s audience, and evaluating the consequences of their Christian identity for participating in mission, the article tackles the household codes by assessing the extent to which they invite readers to change the world around them. At the end there are some conclusions for our time. RÉSUMÉ La première épître de Pierre contient divers thèmes qui témoignent de la préoccupation de son auteur pour l’Église. Cette lettre est connue pour ses instructions aux esclaves, aux maris et aux épouses, pour son approche de la souffrance, pour son enseignement sur la justice sociale et sur la direction d’Église. Le présent article vise à montrer qu’elle intègre à son traitement de questions sociales une pensée missionnelle. En s’appuyant sur divers travaux contemporains, Svetlana Khobnya cherche à déterminer comment la théologie énoncée dans la lettre influe sur le traitement des questions sociales. Elle propose ainsi une lecture de la lettre dans une perspective missionnelle montrant à quel point les lecteurs sont invités à prendre part à la mission de Dieu et, plus spécifiquement, comment fonctionne sa stratégie missionnelle. Elle prête une attention particulière au code domestique. Purpose As a result of space debris problem, it is necessary to deorbit uncontrollable satellites or repair them to extend mission duration to avoid sending a new satellite. The purpose of this paper is to develop a docking mechanism that can be easily customized for different missions, providing on-orbit servicing for nanosatellites. Design/methodology/approach This research outlines a system and mechanism design for the docking phase of on-orbit servicing to nanosatellites. The umbrella-inspired mechanism is designed with utmost simplicity to minimize the likelihood of failure. CAD, structural analyse and mechanism analyse tools are used for designing and analysing the system. To ensure that the design attains the desired durability, numerous iterations are conducted. A three-dimensional (3D)-printed prototype is generated for mechanism verification in laboratory conditions. Findings The aimed mechanism is generated successfully. A 3D-printed prototype is assembled to verify the mechanism. Also, an equation for customis the presented design is generated for different mission requirements in the future. Practical implications The usage of the proposed design can help increase the lifespan of satellites. Originality/value The primary innovation in this study is the development of a docking mechanism featuring a movable platform to provide servicing for nanosatellites in orbit. The mechanism presented can be displaced without initiating the unfolding process. This provides a customizable coupling distance for different mission requirements. Therefore, the presented mechanism can serve both different types of satellites and more than one satellite on-orbit with a cost-effective design. Also, the presented design can be easily customized to enable adaptation for the different mission requirements in the future.

ZusammenfassungDieser Aufsatz untersucht den Bekehrungsprozess aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven, um dessen Auswirkungen für die Praxis der Mission verständlich zu machen. Im ersten Abschnitt wird der Bekehrungsprozess einer kritischen Analyse unterzogen. Zuerst betrachtet der Verfasser die Bedeutung von Bekehrung aus evangelikaler Perspektive, dann wird die Form der Bekehrung innerhalb der christlichen Theologie und gegenwärtigen sozialwissenschaftlichen Forschung erörtert. Diese Analyse wird dann verwendet, um daran praktische Auswirkungen für die Mission der Ortsgemeinde festzumachen. Die unterbreiteten Vorschläge konzentrieren sich auf die Resultate, die für die strategischen Ziele der Gemeinde und ihren Bedarf an kontextueller Wahrnehmung relevant sind. Dies geschieht zu dem Zweck, dass die Gemeindeglieder gestärkt und ausgerüstet werden, Fürsprecher für den Glauben zu sein und für die Botschaft, die sie vertreten, sowie die Aktionen, die sie vornehmen.RésuméL’auteur considère le processus de conversion sous des perspectives diverses afin d’en tirer des implications pour la pratique missionnaire. Dans la première partie, il analyse de façon critique le processus de conversion. Ayant établi le sens de la conversion d’un point de vue évangélique, il considère la structure de la conversion en théologie chrétienne et dans la recherche socio-scientifique contemporaine. Cette analyse sert souvent à dégager des implications pratiques pour la mission de l’Église locale. Les propositions se concentrent alors sur les implications pour la stratégie de l’Église, la nécessité d’une prise en compte du contexte culturel afin d’équiper les membres d’Église pour défendre la foi, et sur le message proclamé et les actions mises en oeuvre.SummaryThis article examines the conversion process from multiple perspectives in order to understand its implications for the practice of mission. In the first section the conversion process is critically analysed. Having considered the meaning of conversion from an evangelical perspective, the structure of conversion within Christian theology and contemporary social-scientific research is discussed. This analysis is then used to identify specific practical implications for the mission of the local church. The proposals advanced focus on the implications for the strategy of the church, its need for contextual awareness, for empowering and equipping church members to be advocates for the faith, and the message and actions it employs.

Two applied propositions are educed according to the characteristic of timely maintenance system usability by stochastic process. According to propositions, machine should be maintained in time. These conclusions can be referred by personnel of using the machinery.Keywords: random process; maintain usability; probability.System usability is the probability of the system in working condition in the beginning of the mission when the system completes the task in a random time. The system is a timely maintenance system if this system can be maintained in time when it is broken down. The system usability of timely maintenance system relate to time, so it can be analyzed by stochastic process.

This study aimed at analysing the African Inland Mission and social transformation in Machakos District of Eastern Kenya from 1895 to 1971. It sought to establish how the elements of the Akamba social life underwent a social change as a result of the mission's presence in the district. The study was guided by the question: How effective was the mission in influencing social change in the district? The structural- functionalism theory formulated by Herbert Spencer and developed further by Emile Durkheim was used to analyse the role of the African Inland Mission in influencing social change in Machakos District. The qualitative research design involving the use of in-depth interviews with key informants was used. A target population consisting of local residents, former administrators and African Inland Mission/church leaders was interviewed. The study used the purposive method of sampling. Primary data was collected using in-depth oral interviews as well as from archival records, while secondary data was obtained through a thematic review of literature related to the topic of study. This study has provided sufficient knowledge on the African Inland Mission and the social transformation in Machakos District in the colonial and the early post-colonial periods of Kenyan history. In addition, the findings have constituted part of the historiography of the African Inland Mission in Kenya.

Long-range and long-duration autonomous missions of manned transport systems have different objectives depending on the environment. They can be tasks of studying and mastering the depths of the world ocean, Arctic and Antarctic multi-purpose missions, etc. The most complicated of such missions may be manned flights to planets with the purpose of their exploration during long stays. Reliable technologies of life support systems (LSS) of autonomous transport systems (ATS) mastered in space missions can be fully or fragmentarily used in missions of other habitats. The reliability of any long-term manned missions depends on the degree of LSS autonomy, the level of its biologisation, and the efficiency of integrated closed biotechnological cycles. With the help of unmanned interplanetary vehicles, the presence of water reserves on Mars has been proved, the Mars atmosphere has been studied, and methane, the origin of which is yet to be discovered, has been discovered, all of which will undoubtedly contribute to the exploration of the planet. This indicates the possibility of organising human life on Mars and contributes to the preparation of a manned mission with the mission of thorough exploration of the planet. Biotechnology has long ago mastered in Earth conditions biosynthesis of animal microbial protein on the basis of methane, water, and air. If the LSS ATS of the Martian manned mission includes closed biotechnological cycles with the participation of these substances, they will make it possible to provide food for the ATS crew not only at the stage of a long flight to Mars, but also on its surface at the initial stage of colonisation, including the use of planetary resources. The purpose of this paper is to analyse and identify ways to improve the reliability of ATS during long-duration and extended manned missions when there is no possibility of resupply in the LSS.

Promotional strategies have become discursive practices in corporate companies’ mission and vision statements. However, less focus was given to the role of grammar in shaping this text type as part of promotional discourse. Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) is arguably the most definite and certain linguistic analysis as a meaning-making resource. Hence, the purpose of this study was to use transitivity grammar theory in SFL to analyse the use of experiential processes in enacting promotional rhetorical moves. Following purposive sampling, mission and vision statements of hundred international companies, which were ranked by current market capitalization, were selected. Using textual analysis, we applied transitivity grammar theory to manually analyse promotional rhetorical moves. The results were quantified and presented in tabulation form. The findings revealed that mental and relational processes are favoured grammatical patterns used by corporate firms to write mission statements that focus on building public image and establish self-concept. The findings of this research can prove helpful for other corporate companies to use similar grammatical patterns to develop mission and vision statements.

The objective of this paper is to analyse the process of the definition and deployment of a company’s mission, to obtain a better understanding of the employees’ role. On the basis of the literature investigating the dimensions of the internalization of a mission (leadership, importance, knowledge, co-workers’ engagement and implication), the paper proposes a model that shows the cause and effect relationships among these dimensions. A survey addressed to Spaniards was launched, and 400 valid responses were received. The data was analysed using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) for an initial model that shows the causal relations among the dimensions for the internalization of a mission. An array of Lagrange multiplier tests suggested modifications for refining the model and proposed one with acceptable fit indices, where the last dimension to be accomplished is “Implication”. The findings show a direct effect between “Leadership” and “Implication”, and double mediation. On the one hand, there is second order mediation through “Knowledge” and “Importance”. On the other hand, there is mediation through “Co-workers’ engagement”. This sequencing among the five dimensions of the internalization of the mission gives new clues and evidence for managers that will help them to define and implement a successful mission statement.

Abstract The GRACE mission has demonstrated a tremendous potential for observing mass changes in the Earth system from space for climate research and the observation of climate change. Future mission should on the one hand extend the already existing time series and also provide higher spatial and temporal resolution that is required to fulfil all needs placed on a future mission. To analyse the applicability of such a Next Generation Gravity Mission (NGGM) concept regarding hydrological applications, two GRACE-FO-type pairs in Bender formation are analysed. The numerical closed loop simulations with a realistic noise assumption are based on the short arc approach and make use of the Wiese approach, enabling a self-de-aliasing of high-frequency atmospheric and oceanic signals, and a NRT approach for a short latency. Numerical simulations for future gravity mission concepts are based on geophysical models, representing the time-variable gravity field. First tests regarding the usability of the hydrology component contained in the Earth System Model (ESM) by the European Space Agency (ESA) for the analysis regarding a possible flood monitoring and detection showed a clear signal in a third of the analysed flood cases. Our analysis of selected cases found that detection of floods was clearly possible with the reconstructed AOHIS/HIS signal in 20% of the tested examples, while in 40% of the cases a peak was visible but not clearly recognisable.

Since the publication in 1964 of Conrad Charles’s article on the origins of parish missions and, in 1978, of Declan O’Sullivan’s list of Passionist missions in Staffordshire from 1842 to 1850, no historians have made a detailed study of the missionary activities of the Passionists in the mid-nineteenth century. Even Conrad Charles, within the parameters he had set himself, took only an overview of the parish missions given by the Passionists, while he also included material on the similar activities of the Rosminians and Redemptorists. The purpose of this present article is to analyse the nature and extent of the missionary apostolate of Dominic Barberi, the pioneer of the Passionist Mission to North West Europe, with particular reference to the impact of the Irish on his missionary activities in England.

The study seeks to assess the relationship between financial inclusion and women entrepreneurship in the context of Mission Shakti in Odisha. It aims to evaluate the impact of Mission Shakti on women entrepreneurship. The study employs empirical techniques and utilises statistical tools, such as Structural Equation Model, to analyse the collected data. Statistical software like AMOS, SPSS and Excel is being utilised. The primary data is gathered from 499 respondents. The study explores three key constructs: Financial Inclusion, Women Entrepreneurship and Mission Shakti, using Exploratory Factor Analysis. The results of the measurement model indicate that all constructs meet the criteria for validity and reliability. Furthermore, the study finds a significant positive impact of Mission Shakti on women entrepreneurship. This research contributes to the existing knowledge in the field of financial inclusion, Mission Shakti and women entrepreneurship through multivariate analysis. The study emphasises the practical implications of employing modern statistical techniques and primary data for future research in the areas of financial inclusion, Mission Shakti and women entrepreneurship.

Introduction: Pharma companies deal with the same important challenges that humans face: to grow and stay healthy. The crucial role of pharma companies in preserving health would suggest that they might rank highly in the reputation indexes. However, this does not seem to be the case. Our aim was to collect, cluster and analyse the words used by pharma companies in their mission, vision and value statements as a base to identify areas of improvement in their corporate communication.
Methods: A total of 97 multinational pharma companies were selected based on their size and presence within major markets. Mission, vision and company values were captured from company websites and analysed. Word clouds were built to analyse the frequency of words in the statement. The influence of company size and location was also analysed.
Results: Most companies (90.7%) have a mission and 54.6% have a clearly stated vision statement, 71.4% mention values. “Life/lives” “patients”, “innovative”, “people/persons” are the most frequently used words. “Innovation” and “integrity” are by far the most common values, followed by “respect”, “ethics”, “responsibility” and “passion”. References to healthcare professionals, access to treatment and sustainability, open science, transparency and care for the environment are more scanty.
Conclusions: Most, but not all, pharma companies provide comprehensive statements focussing mostly on the innovation and its impact on patients. Topics such as role of health care professionals, economic sustainability and care for the environment are rarely listed. An in-depth analysis of their alignment with key needs and trending topics is warranted to further engage customers and build reputation and value.

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to analyse the reception of the missio Dei paradigm in the Eastern Orthodox theology of mission. We will start with a short presentation of the genesis of the concept, and we will continue with its reception in the Protestant and Roman Catholic theology, as well as in the Eastern Orthodox thinking. The paper attempts to demonstrate that the contemporary way to understand the missionary theology and practice is in accordance with the Orthodox traditional missionary theology. At the same time, the article emphasizes the fact that the reception of missio Dei is connected with the view that different ecclesiastical bodies have about church itself. The conclusion includes some practical remarks about ways of applying the concept in the contemporary ecumenical missiology and in the field of spiritual missiology.

La connaissance des langues étrangères n’était pas un facteur déterminant dans la nomination des chefs de mission, mais les autres employés des missions étaient promus en fonction du niveau de leurs compétences linguistiques et d’autres aptitudes professionnelles consignées en détail dans les sources. L’article traite également du système de formation des chevaliers d’ambassade et des étudiants du Collège qui étaient envoyés dans les missions russes à l’étranger pour étudier les langues, ainsi que des possibilités d’évolution de leur carrière.

This study aimed to find and analyse stakeholders' perceptions regarding formulating the vision, mission, and objectives of the Postgraduate of Arabic Language Education Masters Program at IAIN Metro and its implications on curriculum development. This research was field research with a qualitative descriptive approach using observation, interview and documentation techniques. The results of the study show that: (a) The scope of the vision is not only at the regional and national levels but also international; (b) The language of the mission should be formulated operationally so that it can be immediately understood and implemented without further guesswork; (c) Vision to accommodate technological developments; (d) To place faith and piety at the beginning of the vision and be actualised in the mission; (e) The implication of the formulation of the vision, mission and objectives on curriculum development is that the content of the material in the curriculum already represents the vision.

AbstractAt the Moravian mission station Goshen in South Africa's Eastern Cape, conflicts over land rights between missionaries and dissenting congregants around the turn of the twentieth century, led to court cases between the two parties. Through a case study of such a conflict with ensuing court cases, the strategies and practices of the parties involved are analysed and the impact of the civil disobedience of the dissenting congregants is shown. La station missionnaire morave de Goshen, à l'est du Cap en Afrique du Sud, vit émerger au tournant du vingtième siècle des conflits entre missionnaires et croyants dissidents autour des droits sur la terre, conflits qui entrainèrent les deux parties devant la justice. En étudiant ces conflits et les aff aires judiciaires qui s'ensuivirent, ce texte analyse les stratégies et les pratiques des parties impliquées ainsi que l'impact de la désobéissance civile des croyants dissidents.

Underwater gliders are energy-efficient vehicles that rely on changes in buoyancy in order to convert up and down movement into forward displacement. These vehicles are conceived as multi-sensor platforms, and can be used to collect ocean data for long periods in wide range areas. This endurance is achieved at the cost of low speed, which requires extensive planning to ensure vehicle safety and mission success, particularly when dealing with strong ocean currents. As gliders are often involved on missions that pursue multiple objectives (track events, reach a target point, avoid obstacles, sample specified areas, save energy), path planning requires a way to deal with several constraints at the same time; this makes glider path planning a multi-objective (MO) optimization problem. In this work, we analyse the usage of the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA-II) to tackle a MO glider path planning application on a complex environment integrating 3D and time varying ocean currents. Multiple experiments using a glider kinematic simulator coupled with NSGA-II, combining different control parameters were carried out, to find the best parameter configuration that provided suitable paths for the desired mission. Ultimately, the system described in this work was able to optimize multi-objective trajectories, providing non dominated solutions. Such a planning tool could be of great interest in real mission planning, to assist glider pilots in selecting the most convenient paths for the vehicle, taking into account ocean forecasts and particular characteristics of the deployment location.

The belief in lord Krishna and the religious significance of Mathura Vrindavan has attracted a growing number of tourists in recent years. However, the rapid influx of religious tourists and urbanization poses multiple challenges. Though Government of India (GOI) has introduced various missions and schemes like HRIDAY (Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana), AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation), PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive), and Smart Cities Mission in 2015 to ensure sustainable and heritage-inclusive development of the pilgrimage cities of India. It is important to analyse the recent development in the city under the above schemes for its sustainability and heritage inclusiveness. The United Nations laid out 17 Sustainable Goals in 2015 UNSDG 11 is Sustainable Cities and Communities. NITI Aayog has laid down the Indian version of UNSDGs. Abstract The article aims to analyse the contemporary conception of mission of architecture. The analysis is done by comparing the conception with principles of rationally organised activity, first of all clarity. The analysis revealed that the description of the mission is unclear and there are logical contradictions between the general definition and elaborated details of it. Two different “philosophies” govern architecture – the theoretically declared one and the one that is used in practice. It was concluded that there is a need for the modernisation of paradigm of architecture.

Abstract. Public opinion shifted markedly between 2006 and 2007 regarding Canadian military participation in Afghanistan. Multivariate analysis of survey data reveals that the interplay of cognitive and emotional responses fractured support and consolidated opposition to the mission. Subsequently, a major government communication strategy, aimed at bolstering support for the Afghan mission succeeded at an informational level but failed to connect at an emotional one, leaving overall support for the mission essentially unchanged. Our analysis points to the need for nuanced interpretation of shifts in public support for war as well as in assessing political marketing efforts by government.Résumé. L'opinion publique s'est nettement décalée entre 2006 et 2007 concernant la participation militaire canadienne en Afghanistan. L'analyse multi variée des données d'aperçu indique que l'effet des réponses cognitives et émotives a divisé l'appui et a consolidé l'opposition à la mission. D'ailleurs, une stratégie importante de communication du gouvernement, destinée à augmenter le soutien de la mission afghane a réussi à un niveau informationnel, mais ne s'est pas reliée au niveau émotif, laissant le soutien global de la mission essentiellement inchangé. Notre analyse indique le besoin d'une interprétation diversifiée et nuancée des variations de soutien public face à la guerre ainsi qu'une évaluation du marketing politique du gouvernement.

Abstract This paper describes a recently developed training module on the “ecosystem approach”, with the military as target group. Initiated by NATO-affiliated Civil-Military Co-operation Centre of Excellence (CIMIC COE), the module fits into a multidisciplinary new training approach, in which the military learns to integrate specific concepts into their missions, such as environmental issues. In developing the training module, a combination of the Rapid Ecological Assessment (REA) and Rapid Rural Appraisal (RRA) techniques has been formed into a stepwise approach for military to enable them to quickly scan and analyse important environmental issues in their mission environments. Abstract. Today, monitoring the evolution of sea level in coastal areas is of importance, since almost 11 % of the world's population lives in low-lying areas. Reducing uncertainties in sea level estimates requires a better understanding of both altimetry measurements and local sea level dynamics. In New Caledonia, the Nouméa lagoon is an example of this challenge, as altimetry, coastal tide gauge, and vertical land motions from global navigation satellite systems (GNSSs) do not provide consistent information. The GEOCEAN-NC 2019 field campaign addresses this issue with deployments of in situ instruments in the lagoon (GNSS buoy, pressure gauge, etc.), with a particular focus on the crossover of one Jason-series track and two Sentinel-3A missions tracks. In this study, we propose a method to virtually transfer the Nouméa tide gauge at the altimetry crossover point, using in situ data from the field campaign. Following the philosophy of calibration and validation (Cal/Val) studies, we derive absolute altimeter bias time series over the entire Jason and Sentinel-3A periods. Overall, our estimated altimeter mean biases are slightly larger by 1–2 cm compared to Corsica and Bass Strait results, with inter-mission biases in line with those of Bass Strait site. Uncertainties still remain regarding the determination of our vertical datum, only constrained by the three days of the GNSS buoy deployment. With our method, we are able to re-analyse about 20 years of altimetry observations and derive a linear trend of −0.2 ± 0.1 mm yr−1 over the bias time series. Compared to previous studies, we do not find any significant uplift in the area, which is more consistent with the observations of inland permanent GNSS stations. These results support the idea of developing Cal/Val activities in the lagoon, which is already the subject of several experiments for the scientific calibration phase of the SWOT wide-swath altimetry mission.

Purpose – This paper aims to argue that innovation system foresight (ISF) can significantly contribute to the third mission of universities by creating an active dialogue between universities, industry and society. Design/methodology/approach – This paper’s approach is conceptual. The authors analyse the third mission and relevant literature on innovation systems and foresight to explain how and why foresight contributes to the third mission. Findings – The authors propose that foresight contributes to the third mission of universities, particularly to the research and development and innovation dimensions through the development of joint understanding of the agendas and future needs of stakeholders. In addition, foresight enables education to be designed to address identified needs. Research limitations/implications – The findings are both conceptual and exploratory in nature. Thus, the argument needs further examination through a broader study on foresight in the university–industry context and/or longitudinal research on the outcomes and impact of foresight in this context. Practical implications – The findings highlight the importance of understanding the systemic nature of innovation and its role in economic development. Universities must understand their role within the larger innovation system to fulfil the potential of economic development and by extension, their third mission. Originality/value – The paper outlines a novel approach of using ISF to promote university–industry partnerships and the growth of innovation systems. The paper also contributes to the discussion of the third mission by outlining that mission in practical terms.

Abstract The dedicated gravity satellite missions, in particular the GRACE (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment) mission launched in 2002, provide unique data for studying temporal variations of mass distribution in the Earth’s system, and thereby, the geometry and the gravity fi eld changes of the Earth. The main objective of this contribution is to estimate physical height (e.g. the orthometric/normal height) changes over Central Europe using GRACE satellite mission data as well as to analyse them and model over the selected study area. Physical height changes were estimated from temporal variations of height anomalies and vertical displacements of the Earth surface being determined over the investigated area. The release 5 (RL05) GRACE-based global geopotential models as well as load Love numbers from the Preliminary Reference Earth Model (PREM) were used as input data. Analysis of the estimated physical height changes and their modelling were performed using two methods: the seasonal decomposition method and the PCA/ EOF (Principal Component Analysis/Empirical Orthogonal Function) method and the differences obtained were discussed. The main fi ndings reveal that physical height changes over the selected study area reach up to 22.8 mm. The obtained physical height changes can be modelled with an accuracy of 1.4 mm using the seasonal decomposition method.

In December 1871, the Iwakura Mission was sent by the Meiji government to the US and Europe. One of the aims of the mission was the observation of foreign practices and technologies. If Japan wanted to suppress the Unequal Treaties and be considered a “first rank nation”, it had to adopt the “civilized” manners and rules of North America and Europe (Nish, 1998). Five Japanese girls, aged six to sixteen accompanied the Mission to be educated in the US for a ten-year period. Their presence didn’t go unnoticed by the American Press, and the articles reporting on their stay provided an opportunity to bring up broader themes on Japanese women and Japan. The five girls were the first women to officially represent Japan in the US. Identified by the American media as “Japanese Princesses”, their reception was confronted with the American image and understanding of Japan. This article analyses the representations of the five girls, and of Japanese women in general, in the San Francisco Chronicle and the Chicago Tribune during the two months that the Iwakura Mission travelled eastward from San Francisco to Washington, via Chicago. I identify and analyse the recurring tropes: the girls’ social position, the craze they created among the Americans, their beauty, the exoticism of their kimono, the education they will receive in America. The newspapers’ representation of the girls are full of inaccuracies and mistakes, myths and exoticism. Nonetheless, the representations are overwhelmingly positive and the girls – as well as the whole of the Mission’s members – are warmly welcomed by the American press.

Ce qui pose la question de la place des passager.ère.s dans cette association et plus précisément de leur participation. Bien que les passager.ère.s ne participent pas aux décisions prises par l’association, notre analyse pragmatiste du savoir-faire des modératrices et modérateurs, employé.e.s par Noctambus, démontre que, dans la pratique, la modération exige une certaine participation des passager.ère.s, sans laquelle la mission des professionnel.le.s ne pourrait pas être remplie.

The purpose of this study is to analyse data from the marine pilots’ bio-sensor readings to determine how experience affects their biometrical response during the port approach. The experiences play a significant role in the participant’s decision-making process and correlate with the repetitions. Through the repetitions of the experimental task, the participants gain experience, which correlates with the biometrical response, e.g., heart rate, electrodermal activity, etc. After exposing the two experience-distinct groups of participants to the same simulated port-approaching task, their collected biometric data is analysed and discussed. The results show that biometrical readings of the less experienced participants typically vary compared to that of the experienced participants, who take the simulated task more seriously. The study also yields insight into the workload process, involving disturbing factors during the task.

This study aimed to analyse the relationship between the Kaimosi Rural Service Programme’s (RSP) mission objectives and its activities in Vihiga Sub-county County (formerly Hamisi district). The contingency theory guided this study, which shows how factors interact in an interdependent manner to produce either positive or negative results. The analysis adopted a descriptive survey research design where the relationship between the NGO’s mission objectives and its activities was investigated. This study applied two approaches: qualitative and quantitative, to collect data. The analysing unit was made up of the RSP staff and field officers, key informants and twelve Community-Based Organisations (CBOs), six from each of the two divisions of Vihiga Sub county. The study used both probability and non-probability. Data was obtained through focus group discussions, questionnaires, and observation schedules. Data collected was processed and analysed using both descriptive and inferential statistics with the help of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Tables and figures were used to summarise the findings. The study revealed that RSP is meeting its objectives. However, it still faces the challenge of matching its mission and its operations on the ground. If the decisions made affect some staff, this can be a point of contention within the organisation. Furthermore large percentage of respondents was of the view that the organisation structure is closed.

Abstract. Over the past decade, sea-ice freeboard has been monitored with various satellite altimetric missions with the aim of producing long-term time series of ice thickness. While recent studies have demonstrated the capacity of the CryoSat-2 mission (2010–present) to provide accurate freeboard measurements, the current estimates obtained with the Envisat mission (2002–2012) still require some large improvements. In this study, we first estimate Envisat and CryoSat-2 radar freeboard by using the exact same processing algorithms. We then analyse the freeboard difference between the two estimates over the common winter periods (November 2010–April 2011 and November 2011–March 2012). The analysis of along-track data and gridded radar freeboard in conjunction with Envisat pulse-peakiness (PP) maps suggests that the discrepancy between the two sensors is related to the surface properties of sea-ice floes and to the use of a threshold retracker. Based on the relation between the Envisat pulse peakiness and the radar freeboard difference between Envisat and CryoSat-2, we produce a monthly CryoSat-2-like version of Envisat freeboard. The improved Envisat data set freeboard displays a similar spatial distribution to CryoSat-2 (RMSD = 1.5 cm) during the two ice growth seasons and for all months of the period of study. The comparison of the altimetric data sets with in situ ice draught measurements during the common flight period shows that the improved Envisat data set (RMSE = 12–28 cm) is as accurate as CryoSat-2 (RMSE = 15–21 cm) and much more accurate than the uncorrected Envisat data set (RMSE = 178–179 cm). The comparison of the improved Envisat radar freeboard data set is then extended to the rest of the Envisat mission to demonstrate the validity of PP correction from the calibration period. The good agreement between the improved Envisat data set and the in situ ice draught data set (RMSE = 13–32 cm) demonstrates the potential of the PP correction to produce accurate freeboard estimates over the entire Envisat mission lifetime.

The numerous and voluminous reports and letters which the Jesuits wrote on the Moro mission, as on all their missions in Asia, are perhaps of less interest to us now for what they reveal of the methods adopted by the Society of Jesus in this remote corner of their mission field or the details they contain about the successes and failures of individual missionaries, than for the wealth of information they provide on the islands where the Jesuits lived and the indigenous societies with which they came into contact through their work of evangelization. In other words, it is not theprimary purpose of this essay to analyse the Jesuit documents with a view to reconstructing the history of the Moro mission in narrative form but rather to glean from them some of the informationthey contain about the social and political conditions in Moro during the forty years or so in the sixteenth century when both the Jesuit missionaries and the Portuguese were active in the regio Because the Jesuits were often in close touch with local rulers and notables, whether or not they succeeded in converting them to Christianity, and because they lived among their subjects for long periods, depending upon them for the necessities of life and sharing their hardships, their letters and reports often show a deeper understanding of the social, economic and political conditions of the indigenous societies and, one suspects, give a more accurate and measured account of events and personalities than do the official chroniclers and historians of the time, most of whom never ventured further east than Malacca and who in any case were chiefly concerned to glorify the deeds of the Portuguese and justify their actions to the world.

ABSTRACT Space weather forecasting aims at predicting the impacts of the Sun, interplanetary space, and the planetary environment on biological and technological systems. To monitor space weather, the European Space Agency is developing the Vigil mission. Vigil will carry the Plasma Analyser (PLA) instrument. We investigate the expected impact of Solar Energetic Particles (SEPs) on PLA. We analyse previous measurements from Solar Orbiter’s Solar Wind Analyser (SWA) Electron Analyser System (EAS) that, like PLA, uses a microchannel plate (MCP) as its detector. Using a fitting algorithm, we extract the number of erroneous counts created by the interaction between SEPs and the MCP. Using SEP flux measurements from Solar Orbiter’s Energetic Particle Detector (EPD) and multilinear regression, we establish a linear relationship between the number of erroneous counts and SEP fluxes. We define an SEP index, characterizing the impact of SEP events on EAS measurements. We then simulate PLA measurements during SEP events characterized by their SEP index. We show that moderate SEP events cause significant discrepancies in PLA plasma moment estimations under common solar-wind conditions. Based on our results, we propose a correction method for erroneous counts created by SEPs in instruments such as EAS and PLA.
