AbstractThe method of analytic tableaux is employed in many introductory texts and has also been used quite extensively as a basis for automated theorem proving. In this paper, we discuss the complexity of the system as a method for refuting contradictory sets of clauses, and resolve several open questions. We discuss the three forms of analytic tableaux: clausal tableaux, generalized clausal tableaux, and binary tableaux. We resolve the relative complexity of these three forms of tableaux proofs and also resolve the relative complexity of analytic tableaux versus resolution. We show that there is a quasi-polynomial simulation of tree resolution by analytic tableaux; this simulation is close to optimal, since we give a matching lower bound that is tight to within a polynomial.

ABSTRACT New tax accountants are expected to possess strong technical tax and data analytic skills. This case provides an opportunity to improve students' corporate tax and accounting for income taxes knowledge and experience with professional tax workpapers. It also provides exposure to two powerful data analytic platforms, Tableau and Excel. Students must complete a set of tax workpapers, including a Schedule M-3 reconciliation. Students begin to view tax through an analytical mindset, gaining familiarity with descriptive data for tax analyses. This case helps students calculate GAAP and cash effective tax rates, taxable income, temporary and permanent book-tax differences, and formulate a professional written communication. Students also complete tax workpapers; benchmark tax data across time and industry peers; clean, format, and combine data using Excel and Tableau; analyze and visualize data using Tableau; and access and use the IRS's SOI database. Data Analytics is the process of analyzing unprocessed data to draw conclusions by studying and inspecting various patterns in the data. Several algorithms and conceptual methods are often followed to derive legit and accurate results. Efficient data handling is important for interactive visualization of data sets. Considering recent researches and analytical theories on column-oriented Database Management System, we are developing a new data engine using R and Tableau to predict airport trends. The engine uses Univariate datasets (Example, Perth Airport Passenger Movement Dataset, and Newark Airport Cargo Stats Dataset) to analyze and predict accurate trends. Data analyzing and prediction is done with the implementation of Time Series Analysis and respective ARIMA Models for respective modules. Development of modules is done using RStudio whereas Tableau is used for interactive visualization and end-user report generation. The Airport Trends Analytics Engine is an integral part of R and Tableau 10.4 and is optimized for use on desktop and server environments.

As data becomes more accessible, visualization methods are needed to help make it easier to understand the information. Analyzing and visualizing data makes it easier to understand a dataset without having to read through it, and elucidate connections between two or more different datasets. Tableau is one of the most popular interactive data visualization software. By using Tableau, it is easy to find correlations between datasets, reorganize datasets through pivoting or joining them, and create visualizations such as geo map charts, geo bubble charts, table charts, line charts, pie charts, and treemap charts. This project aims to show the correlation between a country’s gross domestic product (GDP) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) through Tableau. Large data sets related to the GDP and HIV were gathered from open data sources. The data will be cleaned through Tableau and Excel, and correlations between datasets will be shown through variable charts with Tableau.

Predictive analytics can forecast trends, determines statistical probabilities and to act upon fraud and security threats for big data applications. Predictive analytics as a service (PAaaS) framework based upon ensemble model that uses Gaussian process with varying hyper parameters, Artificial Neural Networks, Auto Regression algorithm and Gaussian process is discussed in the authors' earlier works. Such framework can make in-depth statistical insights of data that helps in decision making process. This article reports the presentation layer of PAaaS for real time visualization and analytical reporting of these statistical insights. Result from various feature engineering strategies for predictive analytics is visualized in specific to type of feature engineering strategy and visualization technique using Tableau.

Accounting education has been encouraged to increase the business knowledge, analytical skills, and data analytic skills of accounting students. This case blends these areas in a single, multi-part project for Accounting Information Systems (AIS) courses. The case includes the technical function of extracting data from databases, integrating multiple data stores and using multiple software tools (MS Access and Tableau). Additionally, students learn to assess the business needs driving the use of integrated data stores to produce quality information for decision making. Using a basic business scenario (lemonade stand), this case provides a stand-alone project focusing on incorporating data analytics into an AIS course. Students assume the role of a professional consultant to a lemonade stand and will become familiar with the business processes and the data of the company, develop queries to answer various business questions, and integrate internal and external data to graphically analyze the combined data for a business analysis. The case allows integration of the course content of data extraction and reporting elements with data analytics. Students indicated that they perceived that they increased their knowledge about business analysis and data analytics tools. Student also indicated they enjoyed the case and had many positive comments about their experience. Results from a pre-/post-test quiz reflect that students did significantly increase their knowledge of business analysis and data analytics.

Thailand has been ranked as one of the most dangerous countries in terms of death from road accidents, representing ineffective road safety policies. The crucial mission of the Thai government is to provide safety and reduce accidents for road users on the highway system. This paper aims to explore the potential of using Business Intelligence (BI) in accident analysis. The availability of open accident data provides an opportunity for the BI, which can provide an advanced platform for conducting data visualization and analytics in both spatial and temporal dimensions in order to illustrate when and where the accidents occur. The accident data and provincial data were combined by using the Talend Data Integration tool. The combined data was then loaded into a MySQL database for data visualization using Tableau. The dashboard was designed and created by using Tableau as an analytical visualization tool to provide insights into highway accidents. This system is advised to be adopted by the Thai government, which can be used for data visualization and analytics to provide a mechanism to formulate strategy options and formulate appropriate contingency plans to improve the accident situation.

Abstract Objective While electronic health record (EHR) systems store copious amounts of patient data, aggregating those data across patients can be challenging. Visual analytic tools that integrate with EHR systems allow clinicians to gain better insight and understanding into clinical care and management. We report on our experience building Tableau-based visualizations and integrating them into our EHR system. Materials and Methods Visual analytic tools were created as part of 12 clinician-initiated quality improvement projects. We built the visual analytic tools in Tableau and linked it within our EPIC environment. We identified 5 visual themes that spanned the various projects. To illustrate these themes, we choose 1 exemplary project which aimed to improve obstetric operating room efficiency. Results Across our 12 projects, we identified 5 visual themes that are integral to project success: scheduling & optimization (in 11/12 projects); provider assessment (10/12); executive assessment (8/12); patient outcomes (7/12); and control and goal charts (2/12). Discussion Many visualizations share common themes. Identification of these themes has allowed our internal team to be more efficient and directed in developing visualizations for future projects. Conclusion Organizing visual analytics into themes can allow informatics teams to more efficiently provide visual products to clinical collaborators.

ABSTRACT We present a case for teaching data analytics skills in auditing classes using the data visualization software Tableau. We use the Tableau-embedded data file “US Superstore,” which we edited to include cash receipts and discounts to provide a complete order to cash cycle. Students learn how to create data visualizations and dashboards, and how to apply them to audit-planning considerations. Students then perform substantive testing of the revenue (order to cash) cycle and identify issues in the data that relate to revenue. We propose that this case material can be tailored by instructors to fit their particular needs and course curriculum. This case provides students with hands-on exposure to data analytic and visualization capabilities. Student feedback was very favorable and student comments indicated that the case was practical, realistic, and informative, and provided them a better understanding of data visualization. Public eagerness to use Transjakarta as a transport mode has been increasing over the past few years as the ridership growth consistently. To keep the growth up, stakeholders need to understand the passenger behavior by creating an effective operational system so that the passenger satisfaction maintained. An understanding of passenger behavior can be obtained by identifying its pattern and trend which recorded as passenger transaction data. This project uses passenger transaction data which contains information about time and space to produce interactive visualization as a means to identify passenger behavior. Interactive visualization created in this project depicts the trend of bus stop occupancy and passenger movement from one stop to another. The visualization consists of a map and diagrams which relate to each other as one integrated analytical dashboard system. The visualization design process combines Tableau 2019.2 and Mapbox GL JS to create powerful visualization supported by a 3D map view that facilitates analytical reasoning work. Geovisual analytics dashboard as a result of this project is intended for PT. Transportasi Jakarta staff to make decisions. Some staff was asked to examine the usability of the dashboard regarding its effectiveness, efficiency, and accessibility aspects. The usability test pointed out that the analytical dashboard can generate new information about the patterns and trends of Transjakarta passengers.

Purpose Libraries throughout the world use OCLC’s EZproxy software to manage access to e-resources. When cleaned, processed, visualized and enhanced, these logs paint a valuable picture of a library’s impact on researcher’s lives. The purpose of this paper is to share techniques and procedures for enhancing and de-identifying EZproxy logs using Tableau, a data analytics and visualization software, and Tableau Prep, a tool used for cleaning, combining and shaping data for analysis. Design/methodology/approach In February 2018, The Ohio State University Libraries established an automated daily process to extract and clean EZproxy log files. The assessment librarian created a series of procedures in Tableau and Tableau Prep to union, parse and enhance these files by adding information such as user major, user status (faculty, graduate or undergraduate) and the title of the requested resource. She last stripped the data set of identifiers and applied best practices for maintaining confidentiality to visualize the data. Findings The data set is currently 1.5m rows and growing. The visualizations may be filtered by date, user status and user department/major where applicable. Safeguards are in place to limit data presentation when filters might reveal a user’s identity. Originality/value Tableau used in concert with Tableau Prep allows an assessment librarian to clean and combine data from various sources. Once procedures for cleaning and combining data sources are established, the data driving visualizations can be set to refresh on a set schedule. This expedites the ability of librarians to derive actionable insights from EZproxy data and to share the library’s positive impact on researcher’s lives.

At below replacement level, fertility changes are subtle and complex; distinguishing statistically significant trends from random shifts is becoming a relevant issue. The probabilistic fertility table describes the uncertainty of the childbearing process, and provides a significance test for the annual changes of various fertility measures, which is essential for distinguishing a statistically significant change from a random fluctuation. This paper provides an analytical model for the total fertility of the probabilistic fertility table, and extends the significance test to period trends that include multiple annual changes. The extended significance test indicates that complex annual changes could accumulate to become a significant trend. Applying the analytical model and extended test to the total fertility of Canada, it indicates that the 2002–11 increase trend is statistically significant and, therefore, supports project future increases of total fertility.En-dessous du seuil de remplacement des générations, les changements à la fertilité sont subtils et complexes. Aussi, il est devenu pertinent de pouvoir distinguer les tendances significatives au plan statistique des écarts aléatoires. Le tableau probabiliste de fertilité décrit l’incertitude liée au processus de reproduction et fournit un critère de signification des changements annuels dans les diverses mesures de fertilité, élément essentiel pour distinguer un changement important au plan statistique des fluctuations aléatoires. Cet article fournit un modèle analytique pour l’ensemble du tableau probabiliste de fertilité et élargit la portée de cette mesure aux tendances dans le temps incluant les multiples changements annuels. Ce critère élargi indique que les changements complexes annuels peuvent représenter une tendance significative. En appliquant le modèle analytique et le critère au tableau de fertilité du Canada, on constate que la tendance à la hausse de 2002–11 est importante au plan statistique et, par conséquent, augure des hausses futures dans la fertilité totale.

The objective of this study was to analyze the perceptions of lato sensu business students on an accounting big data case. The case was developed by Hoelscher and Mortimer (2018) and was designed to be used with the Tableau software. It was implemented in two distinct accounting courses from two higher education institutions located in the South region of Brazil. Right after the end of the case’s development, surveys were administered to collect data from the 41 participants. Survey questions were divided into three sections: (i) student’s demographic information; (ii) student’s proficiency level in Excel, Tableau, and Statistical software packages; and (iii) ten case-related and Tableau-related questions that were extracted from prior literature. According to the descriptive statistics, most of the students had low proficiency levels in Tableau before the case’s implementation. After the case, students’ perceptions changed from “none” to “basic” regarding their proficiency level. Also, students found the case interesting, engaging, and useful. It helped them to gain an understanding of how data analytics can be used to answer crucial business questions. Results from the association tests indicated that the students’ demographic and academic information is not significantly associated with the case-related and Tableau-related questions. It means that students who majored in accounting and non-accounting areas had similar perceptions. Then, the case has shown to be a productive activity even for those whose academic background is not directly related to the accounting field. Finally, students’ comments reinforced the positive experience with the case.

Evidence from applications suggests that the case is relevant, interesting, and useful for the goal of teaching introductory data visualization skills, using Tableau, to accounting students. The case is easy to implement, authentic, engaging, and a timely instructional resource for accounting instructors and students.

This led to the emergence of a variety of software tools to analyze data. Before adopting the tool, organizations need to know how they will fit into their larger business goals. Due to ever changing requirements from people practicing Data Analytics, many new tools are entering into the market and few tools are losing importance. A review of current popular tools is provided in this paper to help the analytics practitioners to choose the appropriate tool for the requirement at hand. This paper provides a review of seven popular tools viz., R, Python, RapidMiner, Hadoop, Spark, Tableau, and KNIME.

This paper investigates the data analytics between consumer purchase decisions relative to the on-line reviews. The multi-attributes associated with purchase decisions are comprised of nationalism and consumer preference to be correlated with online reviews using big data analytics. By far, a small fraction of meaningful studies have sought to correlate nationalism and ethnocentrism with big data analytics to date. Globally accepted generic products are selected to expedite the process of data engineering. Two sets were arranged: passenger automobiles for transportation with an estimated $9 trillion global market and the smart phone, boosting its market size of approximately $5 billion. Both products provide minimized cultural, linguistic, gender, age, and/or custom barriers of entry for prospective digital consumers, thereby allowing relatively unrestricted engagement with online reviews and purchases. A series of hypothesis tests indicate that there is a positive correlation between nationalism and automobiles. As to smart cell phones, however, nationalism had nominal control factors. Multi-variate analytics were performed by using R and Tableau Public.

This paper deals with analytical modelling of microstrip patch antenna (MSA) by means of artificial neural network (ANN) using least mean square (LMS) and recursive least square (RLS) algorithms. Our contribution in this work is twofold. We initially provide a tutorial-like exposition for the design aspects of MSA and for the analytical framework of the two algorithms while our second aim is to take advantage of high nonlinearity of MSA to compare the effectiveness of LMS and that of RLS algorithms. We investigate the two algorithms by using gradient decent optimization in the context of radial basis function (RBF) of ANN. The proposed analysis is based on both static and adaptive spread factor. We model the forward side or synthesis of MSA by means of worked examples and simulations. Contour plots, 3D depictions, and Tableau presentations provide a comprehensive comparison of the two algorithms. Our findings point to higher accuracies in approximation for synthesis of MSA using RLS algorithm as compared with that of LMS approach; however the computational complexity increases in the former case.

ABSTRACT Recent changes in the accounting profession require students to enter the workforce with technical and critical-thinking skills using large datasets. In an audit setting, an important skill is the ability to identify anomalies and risk factors in the client's data. This instructional case provides students with experience using visualization to identify anomalous transactions for further substantive testing based on relationships between financial data (revenues) and nonfinancial data (weather patterns). Students must also create a memo for the workpaper files that documents their findings, including recommendations for the audit team to select specific sales transactions for substantive testing. Aside from gaining experience with Tableau visualization software, this case will improve students' problem-solving and analytical skills by encouraging them to work independently and to break a complex problem into manageable pieces. This case is most applicable for implementation in undergraduate or graduate auditing or internal auditing courses.

This article analyses the complex dynamics between the human body and the urban environment in the work of French photographer Valérie Jouve. Focussing on a number of works drawn from the series Les Personnages and Les Façades, I propose the notion of containment to be crucial to the study of Jouve's urban portraits. I first approach it as a matter of containment of the human body by the civic and architectural structures of the city, arguing that Jouve renders visible the usually hidden mechanisms of such containment. This leads me to consider the question of boundaries and the relationship of the urban centre to its periphery, which, in the context of France, is bound up with narratives of social stratification. In the final part of the article I consider Jouve's photography as the space of representation, contained by the photographic frame, with theoretical discourse on the tableau providing the main analytical framework.

In the article, dedicated to 250-years anniversary of the first version of "Tableau économique", the logic of F. Quesnay’s (1694-1774) early thought is investigated. The need to fill the gap in such analysis is stipulated both by the state of affairs in present-day historiography of physiocracy and analytics and by the logic of development of political economy from Marx, pre-revolutionary Russian thought (including S. A. Podolinsky) up to P. Sraffa. In treating Quesnay’s article "Évidence" (1756) as a key point of his metaphysics, the author concludes that there is a surprising similarity of Quesnay’s metaphysics and Kant’s epistemology in his "Critique of Pure Reason". This specifies a route of further research in political economy as a science.

AbstractA workflow is an automation of a process, in which participants (people or programs) are involved in activities for solving a set of tasks according to certain rules and constraints in order to attain a common goal. The concept of workflow appeared in business informatics. Currently the workflow techniques are used in many other fields such as medical informatics, bioinformatics, automation of scientific research, computer-aided design and manufacturing, etc. An ontology is a formal description (in terms of concepts, entities, their properties and relationships) of knowledge for solving a given class of problems. In particular, ontologies can be used in problems related to workflows. In this paper, we introduce a formalism that extends the language of the interval Allen’s logic, and show how this formalism can be applied to specify temporal knowledge in ontologies for workflows. For the extended Allen’s logic, we construct a deduction system based on the analytic tableaux method. We also show (by examples) how to apply the deduction method to query answering over ontologies written in the extended Allen’s logic.

Background Visual analytics (VA) promotes the understanding of data with visual, interactive techniques, using analytic and visual engines. The analytic engine includes automated techniques, whereas common visual outputs include flow maps and spatiotemporal hot spots. Objective This scoping review aims to address a gap in the literature, with the specific objective to synthesize literature on the use of VA tools, techniques, and frameworks in interrelated health care areas of population health and health services research (HSR). Methods Using the 2018 PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews) guidelines, the review focuses on peer-reviewed journal articles and full conference papers from 2005 to March 2019. Two researchers were involved at each step, and another researcher arbitrated disagreements. A comprehensive abstraction platform captured data from diverse bodies of the literature, primarily from the computer and health sciences. Results After screening 11,310 articles, findings from 55 articles were synthesized under the major headings of visual and analytic engines, visual presentation characteristics, tools used and their capabilities, application to health care areas, data types and sources, VA frameworks, frameworks used for VA applications, availability and innovation, and co-design initiatives. We found extensive application of VA methods used in areas of epidemiology, surveillance and modeling, health services access, use, and cost analyses. All articles included a distinct analytic and visualization engine, with varying levels of detail provided. Most tools were prototypes, with 5 in use at the time of publication. Seven articles presented methodological frameworks. Toward consistent reporting, we present a checklist, with an expanded definition for VA applications in health care, to assist researchers in sharing research for greater replicability. We summarized the results in a Tableau dashboard. Conclusions With the increasing availability and generation of big health care data, VA is a fast-growing method applied to complex health care data. What makes VA innovative is its capability to process multiple, varied data sources to demonstrate trends and patterns for exploratory analysis, leading to knowledge generation and decision support. This is the first review to bridge a critical gap in the literature on VA methods applied to the areas of population health and HSR, which further indicates possible avenues for the adoption of these methods in the future. This review is especially important in the wake of COVID-19 surveillance and response initiatives, where many VA products have taken center stage. The ability to import data from online sources and various document formats, the ability to simultaneously visualize several criteria using different forms of data presentation and filters, as well as instant automatic changes in analytics when changing data are the advantages of using these tools. The algorithm of competitive strategy in the BP Simulator business process simulator is developed. It includes six stages of development: studying the educational services market and defining the needs of consumers of various groups of stakeholders; identification of leaders in the educational services market; identification of strengths and weaknesses of competitors; self-analysis of the institution running, identification of its own strengths and weaknesses; differentiation of services in order to create a unique service; designing a competitive strategy. Fractional functional differential equations with delay (FDDEs) have recently played a significant role in modeling of many real areas of sciences such as physics, engineering, biology, medicine, and economics. FDDEs often cannot be solved analytically so the approximate and numerical methods should be adapted to solve these types of equations. In this paper we consider a new method of backward differentiation formula- (BDF-) type for solving FDDEs. This approach is based on the interval approximation of the true solution using the Clenshaw and Curtis formula that is based on the truncated shifted Chebyshev polynomials. It is shown that the new approach can be reformulated in an equivalent way as a Runge-Kutta method and the Butcher tableau of this method is given. Estimation of local and global truncating errors is deduced and this leads to the proof of the convergence for the proposed method. Illustrative examples of FDDEs are included to demonstrate the validity and applicability of the proposed approach.

Information systems designs are increasingly concerned with entity relationships and technical programmatic approaches to solutions architecture as opposed to semantic based, business focused information architecture that places business definitions at the centre of the information system design and implementation. The disconnect between information technology and business is perpetuated by an overly prescriptive information technology technical design method that fails to incorporate qualitative and normative aspects of business, where information is structured and delivered according to business. The paper will discuss various decision support and semantic approaches to information design and delivery and argue that the traditional modes of solution delivery do not include meaning making of the data elements which are essential to business information reporting and analytics. The meaning making aspect identified is linked to data dictionary or business data glossary that allows for the discovery of semantic meaning from the SQL Server. Using Christian Fürber’s methodology on semantic programming, the analytics team developed a semantic model that enabled detailed definition of fields and the discovery of information using semantic search functionality embedded in the SQL Server. The project provided semantic data framework that provided business with the capability for semantic reconciliation and data sets that were further integrated with Tableau visualization and SQL auto processes.

How do multiple obligations to give, to receive, and to reciprocate contribute to the evolution of international society? This question can be derived from the works of the French anthropologist and sociologist Marcel Mauss, in particular from his classic essay The Gift, published in 1925. The aim of this article is to introduce Mauss’ theory of the gift to international political theorists, to develop a general theoretical argument from his claim about the universality of gift-giving, and to lay out the plan of the Special Issue. First, we explore the basic concepts of gift-giving and reciprocity and how they highlight a type of exchange that differs from market exchange and from other forms of quid-pro-quo interactions. Second, we consider the Marshall Plan as an iconic and controversial example of international gift-giving. Third, we use Martin Wight’s division of international political thought into realism, rationalism, and revolutionism to locate the work of Mauss and neo-Maussian scholars within the tableau of modern international thought. Fourth, we take a look at the interplay between analytical and normative aspects of Mauss’ works and assess the theoretical purchase of these works for international studies. Finally, we introduce the contributions of the Special Issue.

Nowadays we are moving towards digitization and making all our devices produce a variety of data, this has paved the way to the emergence of NoSQL databases like Cassandra, MongoDB, and Redis. Big data such as geospatial data allows for geospatial analytics in applications such as tourism, marketing, and rural development. Spark frameworks provide operators storage and processing of distributed data. This article proposes “GeoRediSpark” to integrate Redis with Spark. Redis is a key-value store that uses an in-memory store, hence integrating Redis with Spark can extend the real-time processing of geospatial data. The article investigates storage and retrieval of the Redis built-in geospatial queries and has added two new geospatial operators, GeoWithin and GeoIntersect, to enhance the capabilities of Redis. Hashed indexing is used to improve the processing performance. A comparison on Redis metrics with three benchmark datasets is made. Hashset is used to display geographic data. The output of geospatial queries is visualized to the type of place and the nature of the query using Tableau.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the operation and management as well as the activities of tribal libraries in general, providing insights and implications in five areas: general operations and management, staffing and human resource management, financial operations, service and program management, and technology-related activities, using Oglala Lakota College (OLC) Library as a case study. Design/methodology/approach This paper uses information visualization techniques to create visual displays of report data collected from OLC Library. Visualizations were created using Tableau software to provide a quantitative, analytical, and evidence-based view of how tribal libraries operate and are managed. Findings Tribal populations can be well served despite limited funding and staff resources, providing academic and public library services on par with urban libraries. Research limitations/implications Drawing a story from the data proved to be difficult because a bias had been created by the legal service area that most tables of the state data set used to compare reported data. How tribal libraries translate value also posed another challenge. Because the research was conducted in a single tribal library, further research in different, expanded settings and contexts is suggested. Originality/value This study is one of the first to investigate tribal library activities by exploring report data and quantitatively using information visualization techniques.

The history of the Gentzenization of relevant logics goes back to Kripke [17], who in 1959 Gentzenized R→ and went on to prove its decidability. Formulae were separated by commas on the left side of the turnstile, the commas just representing nested implications. Kripke employed just a singleton formula to the right of the turnstile. He also considered adding negation, as well as other connectives, but it was not until 1961 that Belnap and Wallace, in [5], Gentzenized and proved its decidability, though their Gentzenization employed commas on both sides of the turnstile. Subsequently, in 1966, the logic R without distribution, now called LR (for lattice R), was Gentzenized in a similar style by Meyer in [20]. He also went on to show decidability for LR by extending Kripke's argument. Later, in 1969, Dunn Gentzenized R+ (published in [1], pp. 381–391) using two structural connectives (commas and semicolons) to the left of the turnstile, and with a single formula to the right. Here, the commas represent conjunction and the semicolons represent an intensional conjunction, called “fusion”. This is all nicely set out in McRobbie [19], where he also introduces left-handed Gentzenizations and analytic tableaux for a number of fragments of relevant logics. In 1979, further work on distributionless logic was done by Grishin, in a series of papers, including [16], in which he produced a Gentzenization of quantified RW without distribution (which we will call LRWQ), and used it to prove the decidability of this quantified logic.

Abstract Background Integration of evidence from systematic reviews is an essential step in the development of clinical guidelines. The current practice for reporting uses a static structure that does not allow for dynamic investigation. A need exists for an alternate reporting modality to facilitate dynamic visualization of results to match different end-users' queries. Objectives We developed a dynamic visualization of data from a systematic review using the commercial product Tableau and assessed its potential to permit customized inquiries. Methods Data were selected and extracted from a previously completed systematic review. The resulting dataset was then used to develop an interactive, web-based report designed for use by a guidelines development committee. Results A novel example of combining existing reporting standards for systematic review data and modern reporting tools was developed to investigate potential benefits of a dynamic report. Demonstrations of the report to clinicians sitting on previous and future guideline committees received positive feedback for its potential benefit in guidelines development. The report received a runner-up award during the design challenge at the 2018 Workshop on Visual Analytics in Health Care. Conclusion The use of interactive, accessible data may increase the use of systematic reviews and aid decision makers in developing evidence-based practice changes.

123 Background: Many factors contribute to long wait times for oncology patients on the day of their infusion appointment. At Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), one of the main causes of delay to infusion start is providers not signing medication orders in advance of patients checking in for their infusion appointment. We conducted a project to improve provider order signing behavior on the gynecology cancer patient infusion floor at DFCI. Methods: A data working group was formed which consisted of the infusion floor medical leads, nurse lead, pharmacy lead, and analytics and process improvement leads. Starting in February 2018, the working group shared baseline order signing data from September 2017 through January 2018 with the Gynecology Cancer Group. Descriptive and timestamp data from Epic were extracted and cleaned via Tableau to analyze the percentage of non-investigational medication orders, including chemotherapy, that were signed after a patient checked into infusion and the distributions of late order signing times. Results: Gynecology cancer patient providers had higher late order signing percentages at baseline (September 2017 through January 2018) than after sharing those data, which occurred from February through May 2018. The table below provides medication order counts and late order signing percentages by month. Although late signing percentages decreased after sharing the baseline data, the distribution of how late the late orders were signed did not show improvement, staying at an average of 20 minutes late. Conclusions: Sharing late order signing data with providers on a routine basis reduced late signing percentages. Initiating this process with all disease groups is crucial so that downstream workflows can start sooner and patient wait times reduced.[Table: see text]

This article presents an edited version of lectures given by Paul Ricœur at Johns Hopkins University in April 1966. Ricœur offers a comparative analysis of Wittgenstein’s and Husserl’s late works, taking the problem of language as the common ground of investigation for these two central figures of phenomenology and analytic philosophy. Ricœur develops his study in two parts. The first part considers Husserl’s approach to language after the Logical Investigations and concentrates on Formal and Transcendental Logic; leaving a transcendental reflection on language behind it re-examines a phenomenological conception, according to which the sphere of logic is not separable from that of experience. The main focus of the second part is Wittgenstein’s later philosophy as it moved on from the conception of an isomorphic relation between language and the world, as set out in the picture theory in the Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, to the more pragmatic notion of a language-game in the Philosophical Investigations. In order to get beyond the irrevocable differences between the two philosophies and the unresolved theoretical issues on both sides, Ricœur suggests turning to a semiological paradigm based on the Saussurean distinction between “language” and “speaking.” Keywords: Analytic Philosophy, Husserl, Phenomenology, Semiology, Wittgenstein.Résumé Cet article est une version éditée de conférences données par Paul Ricœur à la Johns Hopkins University en avril 1966. An analysis of individual and department triage variances to identify, quantify, and improve markers of nurse triage accuracy. Rebecca Cotton, Richard Drew, Matthew Douma, Domhnall O’Dochartaigh, Candice Keddie, Karen Muncaster, Christopher Picard Background: Canadian Emergency Departments (ED) use the five-point Canadian Triage Acuity Scale (CTAS) to sort and prioritize patients according to acuity. CTAS scores are used to make decisions on patient flow, staffing complement, and funding. Despite this, there is a paucity of literature describing how CTAS data can be audited, and how the data can inform quality improvement/assurance (QI/QA). Implementation: Triage data downloaded from Tableau were analyzed using Microsoft Excel and IBM SPSS 26. Staff were informed of the audit using email and social media, and invited to discuss the results with educators and administrators. Staff identified for intervention were approached individually with the administrative plan. Anonymized versions of the work plan were posted on the departmental audit board. Nurses triaging greater than 50% department average were offered the option to triage less frequently, while nurses triaging less than 50% the department average were preferentially placed in triage. Nurses triaging fewer than 100 patients per year were informed they would be relieved of triage responsibility unless their rates increased above threshold. Nurses “down-triaging” patients at rates greater than 2 SD were informed that if their practice remained outside 2 SD at repeat audit they would be relieved of triage responsibility until they voluntarily completed CTAS refresher training. Nurses with average assigned CTAS scores > 2 SD department average had 20 visits randomly audited per month for error/appropriateness. Evaluation Method: Computer-assisted analysis of complete triage records was conducted for August 2019 to August 2020 at the Misericordia Hospital Emergency. Complete triage entries of every patient triaged by all triage trained nurses in the department were examined. Nurse’s with practice variation two deviations from department mean were identified and received additional detailed audits. Items examined for error were: FTE adjusted triage frequency; average CTAS score assigned; triage score manual override “down/up-triage” rate; proportion of absent Numeric Pain Scores (NPS) for patients with primary presenting complaints of pain; and vital signs modifier error rates. Initial department averages were used for benchmarking individual nurses; zone averages were used to benchmark department performance. Nurses were interviewed, audit results and action plans were posted. Repeat audits were performed on a three-month basis and benchmarked to initial measures, and a staff awareness campaign was enacted to improve NPS scoring. Data were extracted using text-parsing algorithms programmed into Microsoft Excel and analyzed using IBM SPSS 26. Data were normally distributed and descriptive statistics were calculated using means and standard deviations. T-testing was used for comparisons, and all testing was two-tailed with a pre-defined significance set at 0.05. Results: After the 3rd quarterly audit and associated interventions, global improvements were appreciated in triage nurse practice. There was a 68% reduction in the need for administrative action (n=51, n=18) with reduced variance in individual nurse triage rates and a 50% reduction in nurses who triaged >50% more patients than their peers. 50% fewer nurses had a mean triage rate >.02 above or below department average, there was an 86% reduction in high risk vital sign error rates, a 78% reduction in ”down-triage” rates, and a 6.5% improvement in documentation of numerical pain scores. Advice and Lessons Learned:1) Triage data analytics can rapidly identify staff with significant deviations from the average,making auditing and QI/QA activities more efficient and effective. 2) Having a concrete performance management framework and dissemination plan in place areessential for auditing to have a significant impact on triage consistency and quality over time. 3) Future QI/QA work should consider expanding computer-assisted text parsing to identifypatients at risk for mis-triage for reasons other than vital sign derangement, which will allowfor broader ED rollout across the Edmonton Zone and beyond.

In order to control the surface properties (adhesion, friction, wear) of HPMC films, additives are frequently incorporated during film formulation: these are in most cases hydrophobic lubricant (like fatty acids) or hydrophilic plasticizer. Hydrophilic plasticizer like polyethylene glycol (PEG) will determine the diffusion properties of water through the film and thus drug release but also its deformability as well as its surface softness. The main objective is to use dedicated analytical tools to access HPMC formulated film surface characteristics in terms of structuration, surface morphologies, surface phase separation, wettability, nano-adhesion and nano-friction properties. At nanoscale, Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) in contact mode and in friction mode (FFM) is a powerful tool for studying nano-adhesion and nano-friction. The presented paper underlines the strong dependence of film surface properties on additive nature and concentration. It also shows that first the HPMC-additive compatibility seems to be an interesting factor behind the variation of surface properties of HPMC formulated films, and second that formulation is an International audience Tableau sequences of bounded height have been central to the analysis of $k$-noncrossing set partitions and matchings. We show here that families of sequences that end with a row shape are particularly compelling and lead to some interesting connections. First, we prove that hesitating tableaux of height at most two ending with a row shape are counted by Baxter numbers. This permits us to define three new Baxter classes which, remarkably, do not obviously possess the antipodal symmetry of other known Baxter classes. Oscillating tableau of height bounded by $k$ ending in a row are in bijection with Young tableaux of bounded height 2$k$. We discuss this recent result, and somegenerating function implications. Many of our proofs are analytic in nature, so there are intriguing combinatorial bijections to be found. Les séquences de tableau de hauteur bornée sont au centre de l’analyse des partages et couplages. Nous montrons que les familles de séquences qui se terminent par une seule ligne sont particulièrement fascinantes. AbstractThe way societies conceive of themselves is an essential part of their nature. The belief that societies are mainly ruled by economic laws is part of the myth of our modern societies. That myth is disguised under the name of science. In this view, the proclamation of economics as a science is an important and even crucial event for our modern society. This took place in France, namely with the elaboration of the Tableau économique. The following questions are addressed in this article: What are the intellectual and political circumstances which made the invention of the Tableau possible? Do they account at least partially for its content? How far does the Tableau support the basic propositions of Quesnay and the economic policy he advocates? Some tentative answers are suggested: Social science and politics are closely intertwined as a comparison between the Tableau and the Traité de la monarchie reveals; Its analytical expression is Quesnay’s theory of production and circulation which dramatically changes the way political problems are settled; However Quesnay’s political aspirations are betrayed by his Tableau as an internal critique of it shows.

This advisory case is designed to develop data analytics skills using multiple large real-world datasets based on eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL). This case can also be used to introduce students to XBRL concepts such as extension taxonomies. Students are asked to recommend an XBRL preparation software for a hypothetical company (ViewDrive) that is adopting XBRL to satisfy the financial report filing requirements imposed by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Students perform data cleansing (extract, transform, load) procedures to prepare large datasets for data analytics. Students are encouraged to think critically, specify assumptions before performing data analytics (using analytic software such as Tableau), and generate visualizations that support their written recommendations. The case is easy to implement, promotes active learning, and has received favorable student and instructor feedback. This case can be used to introduce technology and data analytics topics into the accounting curriculum to help satisfy AACSB’s objectives.

Using materials from PwC’s data analytics case study with a fictitious company, Pixystems Toy Company, Inc. (PwC, 2017), henceforth Pixystems Toys, the authors developed a comprehensive, multi-part data analytics project applicable in a variety of accounting courses. The project follows the common data analytics framework (ask the right questions, extract, transform and load (ETL) the data, perform appropriate analyses and present the results). Students apply this framework to the sales and purchases cycles. For each students develop relevant questions, build a data model and perform other ETL procedures, perform analytics and prepare a presentation to convey insights and recommendations. For the sales cycle, Microsoft Excel is the analytics tool; for the purchases cycle, Tableau is used. This project provides an opportunity for students to gain experience with two analytics tools, understand the process of building a data model, and wrestle with how to convey the results of their analysis.
