Prokaryotic cell division is one of the most fundamental processes in biology, but the dynamics and mechanics are far from being understood. In many bacteria, FtsZ, a tubulin homologue assembles into a ring-like structure – Z-ring at precisely the middle of the cell. This accurate site selection is dependent on the Min proteins. Min D and MinE self-organise into waves in vitro, and oscillate pole to pole in vivo. MinC is thought to couple the Min oscillations to FtsZ by direct interaction. The mechanism of inhibitory action of MinC on FtsZ assembly is not known. Critical to the understanding o

Bacterial taxonomy is the science of classifying, naming, and identifying bacteria. The scope and practice of taxonomy has evolved through history with our understanding of life and our growing and changing needs in research, medicine, and industry. As in animal and plant taxonomy, the species is the fundamental unit of taxonomy, but the genetic and phenotypic diversity that exists within a single bacterial species is substantially higher compared to animal or plant species. Résumé :
Introduction: The quality of neonatal care is mainly determined by long-term neurodevelopmental outcome. The neurodevelopment of preterm infants is related to postnatal head growth and depends on medical interventions such as nutritional support. Head circumference (HC) is currently used as a two-dimensional measure of head growth. Since head deformities are frequently found in preterm infants, HC may not always adequately reflect head growth. Laser aided head shape digitizers offer semiautomatic acquisition of HC and cranial volume (CrV) and could thus be useful in describing head size more p

Résumé :
Lactic acid bacteria were isolated from 10 samples of the traditionally fermented foods (5 samples of Vietnamese fermented pork roll and 5 samples of the salted field cabbage) and 5 samples of fresh cow milks collected from households in Vietnam. 22 strains of lactic acid bacteria were isolated for inhibition to Lactobacillus plantarum JCM 1149. Of these, only 2 strains including DC1.8 and NC1.2 have rod shape, the others have coccus shape. 7 strains showing higher antibacterial activity were selected for checking spectrum of antibacteria with indicator bacteria consistting of Bacillus subtili

Biochar is defined as a carbon-rich, fine-grained, porous substance, which is produced by pyrolysis biomass with little or no oxygen. Biochar is usually produced from crop residues, wood biomass, animal litters, and solid wastes. Recently, biochar is increasingly receiving attention as an environmental-friendly approach, especially as a climate change mitigation strategy. Biochar is especilly demonstrated to remove diesel oil (DO) from soil and water. In this report, 4 biofilm forming bacteria including Klepsiella sp. VTD8, Pseudomonas sp. BQN21, Rhodococcus sp. Résumé :
Content: Surfactants are used as auxiliaries in every wet processing process of leather production and discharged into wastewater, which would cause potential ecological risks. In this paper, fresh luminescent bacillus liquids were employed to evaluate the ecological toxicity of six surfactants, including anionic, cationic and non-ionic surfactants, and mixture of two typical ionic and nonionic surfactants after a 15-min exposure period. Non-ionic surfactants AEO and Tween80 showed slight light inhibition ie.10-35% to luminescent bacteria. The toxicity of anionic surfactants with polar sulfoni

Résumé :
Soybean meal (SBM) is residua product after oil extraction, the SBM with 48% protein is used for poultry, cattle. The SBM contains significant amount of anti-nutritional factors. Degradation of most antigenic proteins and protease inhibitors in SBM fermented by fungal, yeast and bacterial strains. Soybean fermented products are used as feed for livestock or aquaculture. Recently, biofilm forming microorganisms were broadly applied for fermentation process using substrates such as rice bran, corn, soybean meal ... to produce probiotics. In this study, we isolated and selected beneficial microbi

Bacterial cell wall proteins (S-layer) are - due to both the capability to self-assemble into two-dimensional crystals and their distinct chemical and structural properties - suitable for the deposition of metallic particles at their surface . The cluster growth is subject of this thesis. The binding of metal complexes to S-layers of Bacillus sphaericus and Sporosarcina ureae and their subsequent reduction leads to the formation of regularly arranged platinum or palladium cluster arrays on the biomolecular template. A heterogeneous nucleation mechanism is proposed for this process consisting o

Résumé :
Seventeen bacterial strains were isolated from 9 marine mud samples from the inshore environments of the East Sea. Four bacterial strains showed an inhibition against all tested microorganisms Staphylococcus aureus ATCC10832, Escherichia coli JM109, and Fusarium oxysporum. 16S rRNA sequences of four bacterial strains were obtained by PCR using specific primers. PCR products were cloned into E. coli DH5a using pJET1.2 blunt vector. The recombinant plasmids were sequenced and the lengths of these 16S rRNA sequences were ~930bp. The 16S rRNA sequence from the four bacterial DB1.2, DB1.2.3, DB4.2
