Abstract. Background: A common suicide prevention strategy is training gatekeepers to identify at-risk individuals and refer them to services. Aims: The study aimed to examine whether differences in training outcomes were observed for brief versus in-depth gatekeeper trainings for trainees from varied professional settings while controlling for differences in trainee characteristics and community context. Method: Trainees' identification and referral behavior 3 months after gatekeeper training was compared with a sample of respondents matched on individual- and community-level variables using propensity score-based techniques. The value was estimated, in terms of additional identification and associated costs, of adopting in-depth training. Results: A higher proportion of trainees who participated in in-depth trainings from K-12 and community settings identified at-risk youth, and a higher proportion of in-depth trainees from mental health settings referred youth to services compared with participants of brief trainings from the same setting and with similar characteristics. The effect of training type on outcomes varied by professional role and community context. Limitations: Self-report measures were used to assess outcomes. Similar measures are used in other studies; their validity has not been conclusively established. Conclusion: Findings suggest certain individuals may benefit from in-depth training more than others, which favors targeting this intervention to particular gatekeepers.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a therapy model that has been practiced since the 1980s. Unlike traditional therapy models, it focuses on solutions instead of problems. The basis of the application of SFBT is the solution-focused questions that have been developed for many years by the method of tacit presence. With the growing interest in SFBT in recent years, specific trainings in this area have begun to be provided. Though there are SFBT Association standards regarding the content of SFBT training, it usually takes two days training in Turkey. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the SFBT training by investing view of counselors and counselor candidates, who participated in a SFBT training. To do this, 76 participants were asked about the educational evaluation of the Northwest Brief Therapy Training Center via the Google form, and 50 people completed to answer these questions. This study is researched by the qualitative research design, and it is preferred to collect data by open-ended questionnaire using case study method. Results are displayed on Google form and coded in response to given responses. In conclusion, for most participants, practicing in counseling under supervision is the reason to attend the training, counseling practice activities that they are most satisfied with, and they thought more counseling practice activities could be in training. It has been observed that the SFBT training has had a positive impact on some of the participants' professional and personal opinions about themselves and encourages participants to improve themselves in their fields. Lastly, participants stated that they would like to have a longer duration of SFBT training.

Purpose In April 2015, we initiated a training program to facilitate earlier diagnosis of breast cancer among women with breast symptoms in rural Rwanda. The goal of this study was to assess the impact of the training intervention in breast cancer detection on knowledge and skills among health center nurses and community health workers (CHWs). Methods We assessed nurses’ and CHWs’ knowledge about breast cancer risk factors, signs and symptoms, and treatability through a written test administered immediately before, immediately after, and 3 months after trainings. We assessed nurses’ skills in clinical breast examination immediately before and after trainings and then during ongoing mentorship by a nurse midwife. We also examined the appropriateness of referrals made to the hospital by health center nurses. Results Nurses’ and CHWs’ written test scores improved substantially after the trainings (overall percentage correct increased from 73.9% to 91.3% among nurses and from 75.0% to 93.8% among CHWs ( P < .001 for both), and this improvement was sustained 3 months after the trainings. On checklists that assessed skills, nurses’ median percentage of actions performed correctly was 24% before the training. Nurses’ skills improved significantly after the training and were maintained during the mentorship period (the median score was 88% after training and during mentorship; P < .001). In total, 96.1% of patients seen for breast concerns at the project’s hospital-based clinic were deemed to have been appropriately referred. Conclusion Nurses and CHWs demonstrated substantially improved knowledge about breast cancer and skills in evaluating and managing breast concerns after brief trainings. With adequate training, mentorship, and established care delivery and referral systems, primary health care providers in sub-Saharan Africa can play a critical role in earlier detection of breast cancer.

Objectives: Paraprofessional substance use disorder counselors (SUDCs) are an important component of expanding access to substance use disorder treatment, but little research on SUDC training currently exists. We evaluated knowledge and self-efficacy gain from brief in-person and virtual workshops for paraprofessional SUDC student-trainees. Methods: Student-trainees (N = 100) enrolled in an undergraduate SUDC training program completed 6 brief workshops from April 2019 to April 2021. Three in-person workshops during 2019 covered clinical assessment, suicide risk and evaluation, and motivational interviewing, and 3 virtual workshops during 2020-2021 covered family engagement and mindfulness-oriented recovery enhancement, as well as screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment for expectant mothers. Pretest and posttest online surveys measured student-trainee knowledge gain related to all 6 SUDC modalities. Results of paired sample t tests evaluated changes in knowledge and self-efficacy from pretest to posttest. Results: All 6 workshops showed a significant gain in knowledge from pretest to posttest. Four workshops showed a significant gain in self-efficacy from pretest to posttest. Hedges g ranged from 0.70 to 1.95 for knowledge gain and from 0.61 to 1.73 for self-efficacy gain across workshops. Common language effect sizes indicating the probability that a participant increased one’s score from pretest to posttest ranged from 76% to 93% for knowledge gain and from 73% to 97% for self-efficacy gain across workshops. Conclusions: Results of this study add to the limited research base on training for paraprofessional SUDCs and suggest that in-person learning and virtual learning are both viable brief training tools for students.

Background: The peer recovery specialist (PRS) workforce has rapidly expanded to increase access to substance-use disorder services for underserved communities. PRSs are not typically trained in evidence-based interventions (EBIs) outside of motivational interviewing, although evidence demonstrates the feasibility of PRS delivery of certain EBIs, such as a brief behavioral intervention, behavioral activation. However, characteristics that predict PRS competency in delivering EBIs such as behavioral activation remain unknown, and are critical for PRS selection, training, and supervision if the PRS role is expanded. This study aimed to explore the outcomes of a brief PRS training period in behavioral activation and identify predictors of competence. Method: Twenty PRSs in the United States completed a two-hour training on PRS-delivered behavioral activation. Participants completed baseline and post-training assessments, including roleplay and assessments of PRS characteristics, attitudes towards EBIs, and theoretically relevant personality constructs. Roleplays were coded for competence (behavioral activation specific and PRS skills more broadly, i.e., PRS competence) and changes were assessed from baseline to post-training. Linear regression models tested factors predicting post-training competence, controlling for baseline competence. Results: There was a significant pre-post increase in behavioral activation competence (t = −7.02, p < 0.001). Years working as a PRS significantly predicted post-training behavioral activation skills (B = 0.16, p = 0.005). No variables predicted post-training PRS competence. Conclusions: This study provides preliminary evidence that behavioral activation may be appropriate for dissemination to PRSs through brief trainings, particularly for PRSs with more work experience. However, additional research is needed to examine predictors of competence among PRSs.

Substance use disorders (SUD) remain a long-standing problem for adolescents. Medication assisted treatment (MAT) is now standard treatment for adult SUD but less common in adolescents. This article provides a brief summary of the available psychotropics used to treat SUD in adolescent patients; psychotropics should be considered as one part of a multi-disciplinary approach to treatment of SUD. Due to the growing impact of the opioid public health crisis in the adolescent population, pediatricians have an expanding role in identifying and treatment of opioid use disorders, in addition to other substance use disorders. Pediatricians and adolescent medicine physicians are critically important in the solution to the addiction problem. There is expanding evidence that treatment of SUDs must be integrated into multiple parts of the delivery care system, including primary care settings. Medications Used to Treat Opioid Use Disorders (OUD): Methadone and buprenorphine are the two primary methods of MAT available to treat OUD. Methadone is highly regulated and only available to patients over age 18 in the United States. Buprenorphine/naloxone is FDA-approved for patients age ≥16, with the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Substance Use and Prevention (2016) recommending improved pediatrician access to buprenorphine training and MAT consideration for adolescents. Buprenorphine/Naloxone (Suboxone) and Buprenorphine (Subutex): Buprenorphine is a schedule III drug, requiring additional prescriber trainings and requirements. Buprenorphine is a mu-opioid partial agonist with greater safety margins than full agonists and less withdrawal. It is often combined 4:1 with naloxone, an antagonist; Alho, et al. found that this combination reduced “street value”, likely decreasing abuse potential.

The article analyzes the problem feld of the distance education system. To determine the popularity of distance learning in Moscow universities among teachers and students, a sociological survey was conducted, which allowed us to identify an increasing trend in the number of students who would prefer distance learning to traditional with a strict schedule and draw conclusions about the prospects for distance education in Russian higher education institutions. The article presents a model of the educational process in the distance learning system with a brief description of each block. The model includes all the stages that a student goes through when entering, studying and graduating from a higher educational institution before receiving a diploma confrming the appropriate level of education. Each of the blocks contains descriptions of the actions required to pass this stage, as well as recommendations for improving and extracting the maximum result for both teachers or educational institutions, and for the students themselves. Alternative options are provided if one of the stages is stopped or impossible to overcome. Conclusions are drawn, in which cases the presented model of the educational process is applied, and the prospects of distance education in General are considered.

Purpose: The current quasi-experimental study aimed to develop and evaluate a virtual staff training on age-related hearing loss at a care organization for older adults. Method: Training included the use of affordable headset amplifiers and a hands-on activity in which hearing loss was simulated. Staff were encouraged to offer amplifiers to assist in communication given the high prevalence of untreated hearing loss among older adults and the increased communication difficulty that results from mask-wearing. Results: Quantitative results ( N = 51) from the pre/post questionnaire suggest that staff members gained knowledge about hearing loss and communication through the training session. Qualitative data over the 6-month post training suggest that some older adults had not only improved speech understanding but also improved quality of interactions with staff. The main reasons for not using the amplifiers were that staff would forget they had access to the amplifiers or the older adult would refuse to use the device. Conclusion: This article highlights successes of the training as well as ideas for future trainings suggested by staff members. A key finding was the need to identify a core group of staff members who would be charged with facilitating use of personal amplification for older adults in the organization. In addition, providing multiple brief trainings over time was suggested to improve adoption of good communication practices among staff. [ Journal of Gerontological Nursing, 50 (4), 48–56.]

Introduction Care coordinators (CCs) are specialized healthcare providers and often the primary point of contact for patients with multiple medical and mental health comorbidities in integrated healthcare settings. Prior work shows CCs have lower comfort addressing mental health than physical health concerns. Digital mental health interventions can support CCs’ management of patient mental health needs, but training gaps must be addressed prior to a digital mental health intervention's implementation. Methods As part of a quality improvement initiative, a 1-hour training focused on the assessment and management of depression and suicide-related thoughts and behaviors was delivered to CCs within a large midwestern healthcare system's Division of Ambulatory Care Coordination. CCs completed online surveys prior to and following the training. Conclusion Training resulted in increased comfort working with clinical populations, including patients who experience suicide-related thoughts and behaviors. Gains around screening for suicide risk were modest. Brief trainings for CCs can address training gaps, however, ongoing training and case consultation may also be indicated.

Background: Brief educational trainings are often used for disseminating and implementing evidence-based practices (EBPs). However, many accessible trainings are ubiquitously standardized. Tailored training focused on modifying individual or contextual factors that may hinder EBP implementation is recommended, but there is a dearth of research comparing standardized versus tailored training. This study sought to: (a) assess the impact of MBC training on clinician intention to use measurement-based care (MBC); (b) compare the effect of standardized versus tailored training on clinician intention to MBC; and (c) identify clinician-level predictors of intention. Methods: Clinicians ( n = 152) treating adult clients with depression at 12 community mental health clinics were randomized to either tailored or standardized MBC training. Clinic-specific barriers and facilitators were used to inform training content and structure tailoring. Linear mixed modeling tested the association between training condition and post-training intention to use MBC, as well as hypothesized individual-level predictors of post-training intention (e.g., age, gender). Results: Clinician intention pre- and post-training increased across training conditions ( B = 0.38, t = −5.95, df = 36.99, p < .01, Cohen's d = 0.58). Results of linear mixed modeling procedures suggest no significant difference in clinician intention between conditions post-training ( B = −0.03, SE = .19, p > .05, Cohen's d = .15). Only baseline intention emerged as a predictor of post-training intention ( B = 0.39, SE = .05, p < .05). Conclusions: These findings suggest the additional effort to tailor training may not yield incremental benefit over standardized training, at least in the short term. As a result, implementation efforts may be able to reserve time and finances for other elements of implementation beyond the training component. Plain Language Summary Educational training is a common approach for enhancing knowledge about research-supported mental health treatments. However, these trainings are often not tailored to meet the needs of the trainees, and there is insufficient evidence about whether tailoring might improve the impact of training compared to a one-size-fits-all, standard version. This study compared the impact of a tailored versus standard training on mental health clinician’s intentions to use measurement-based (MBC) care for monitoring treatment progress for clients with depression. Study results indicated that intention to use MBC improved for clinicians receiving both the tailored and standard training after training completion. There were no differences in intention to use MBC care when the two types of training were compared. These study findings suggest that tailoring, which may require substantial time and effort, may not be a necessary step to improve the short-term impact of educational trainings.

Many trafficked persons receive medical care in the Emergency Department (ED); however, ED staff have historically not been educated about human trafficking. In this article, we describe interventions aimed to train ED providers on the issue of trafficking. We performed a scoping review of the existing literature and found 17 studies that describe such interventions: 14 trainings implemented in the ED, two taught at conferences for ED providers, and one assessing a state-mandated training. These studies demonstrate that even brief education can improve provider confidence in screening and treating patients that experienced trafficking. We advocate for interventions to promote a team-based approach specific to the ED setting, acknowledge the importance of survivors’ input on curriculum development, and assess outcomes using pre- and post-surveys.

Using AR/MR for AI simulation and training is not a new thing for many trainings simulations AR/MR is used in areas like military and medical. Although same cannot be said with the manufacturing industry there is need in manufacturing plants for training new employees/visitors about the process and machines along with instructions to use them. This can be done using mixed reality and marker less detection. Assembly line in Manufacturing plants is a brief process which needs to be followed by workers for better efficiency and quality. Using mixed reality for training workers by walking though assembly line will help immensely as mixed reality-based applications are very intuitive and they help in learning. This study focusses on finding challenges and proof of concept android mobile application while benchmarking them with various metrics which will help in further developments in area.

The article provides a brief description of Dr. Thomas Gordon’s programs: Parents Effective Training, Training Effective Teachers, Training Effective Children and Youth. They have proved their efficiency in recent decades, combining traditional techniques with innovative methods of pedagogical interaction with children. Previous surveys in this direction show the desire of the trainees in the program to have more interaction with the leader, practical exercises and, of course, lots of games. The training methodology of the programs includes a high percentage of use of the game approach when interacting with the participants. The opinion of 40 persons trained in the programs was studied through a survey card, with the aim of tracking their attitude towards the use of the game approach during the training. Of course, there are also negative opinions – some of the participants in the training do not want to waste their time in games or do not get involved due to the lack of communication skills. On the basis of the obtained results, relevant conclusions were made, which give good ideas for optimizing the practice. Program coaches are trained to use the game approach, including themed and recreational games, as well as familiarization and de-stressing games, which in most cases lead to positive outcomes.

Introduction:Currently, there are no universally accepted personal protective equipment (PPE) training guidelines for Emergency Medicine physicians, though many hospitals offer training through a brief didactic presentation. Physicians’ response to hazmat events requires PPE utilization to ensure the safety of victims, facilities, and providers; providing effective and accessible training is crucial. In the event of a real disaster, time constraints may not allow a brief in-person presentation and an accessible video training may be the only resource available.Aim:To assess the effectiveness of video versus in-person training of 20 Emergency Medicine Residents in Level C PPE donning and doffing (chemical-resistant coverall, butyl gloves, boots, and an air-purifying respirator).Methods:A prospective observational study was performed with 20 Emergency Medicine residents as part of Emergency Preparedness training. Residents were divided into two groups, with Group A viewing a demonstration video developed by the emergency preparedness team, and Group B receiving in-person training by a Hazmat Team Member. Evaluators assessed critical tasks of donning and doffing PPE utilizing a prepared evaluation tool. At the drill’s conclusion, all participants completed a self-evaluation to determine their confidence in their respective trainings.Results:Both video and in-person training modalities showed significant improvement in participants’ confidence in doffing and donning a PPE suit (p>0.05). However, no statistically significant difference was seen between training modalities in the performance of donning or doffing (p>0.05).Discussion:Video and in-person training are equally effective in preparing residents for donning and doffing Level C PPE, with similar error rates in both modalities. Future trainings should focus on decreasing the overall rate of breaches across all training modalities.

We present results from a large (n = 3,016) field experiment at a global organization testing whether a brief science-based online diversity training can change attitudes and behaviors toward women in the workplace. Our preregistered field experiment included an active placebo control and measured participants’ attitudes and real workplace decisions up to 20 weeks postintervention. Among groups whose average untreated attitudes—whereas still supportive of women—were relatively less supportive of women than other groups, our diversity training successfully produced attitude change but not behavior change. On the other hand, our diversity training successfully generated some behavior change among groups whose average untreated attitudes were already strongly supportive of women before training. This paper extends our knowledge about the pathways to attitude and behavior change in the context of bias reduction. However, the results suggest that the one-off diversity trainings that are commonplace in organizations are unlikely to be stand-alone solutions for promoting equality in the workplace, particularly given their limited efficacy among those groups whose behaviors policymakers are most eager to influence.

Accordingly, the requirements for the maintenance of curriculums of the trainings for the management specialists in the university, the ratio of the technical-technological disciplines in economics, organization and production management, socio-political relations organization and management are determined. The post-graduate management education is also considered.

PurposeStandardisation of the postoperative handover process via checklists, trainings or procedural changes has shown to be effective in reducing information loss. The clinical friction of implementing these measures has received little attention. We developed and evaluated a visual aid (VA) and >1 min in situ training intervention to improve the quality of postoperative handovers to the intensive care unit (ICU) and postoperative care unit.Materials and methodsThe VA was constructed and implemented via a brief (<1 min) training of anaesthesiologic staff during the operation. Ease of implementation was measured by amount of information transferred, handover duration and handover structure. 50 handovers were audio recorded before intervention and 50 after intervention. External validity was evaluated by blinded assessment of the recordings by experienced anaesthesiologists (n=10) on 10-point scales.ResultsThe brief intervention resulted in increased information transfer (9.0–14.8 items, t(98)=7.44, p<0.0001, Cohen’s d=1.59) and increased handover duration (81.3–192.8 s, t(98)=6.642, p=0.013, Cohen’s d=1.33) with no loss in structure (1.60–1.56, t(98)=0.173, p=0.43). Blinded assessment on 10-point scales by experienced anaesthesiologists showed improved overall handover quality from 7.1 to 7.8 (t(98)=1.89, p=0.031, Cohen’s d=0.21) and improved completeness of information (t(98)=2.42, p=0.009, Cohen’s d=0.28) from 7.3 to 8.3.ConclusionsAn intervention consisting of a simple VA and <1 min instructions significantly increased overall quality and amount of information transferred during ICU/postanaesthetic care unit handovers.

Abstract Although approximately a third of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) also experience a mental health concern, caregivers often miss early identification of these issues. In this perspective piece, we present an outline for a mental health literacy program that can enhance existing training approaches for caregivers of individuals with IDD. We describe three processes of the Mental Health Awareness and Advocacy (MHAA) curriculum and detail how it provides a strong preventative model to train caregivers to increase their mental health literacy. In describing these processes, we provide illustrative examples and conclude by providing a brief vignette that highlights how this process could be used by caregivers to help reduce mental health concerns in individuals with IDD.

Abstract Background Care refusal by older adults with cognitive impairment creates significant challenges for professional caregivers. Humanitude is a multimodal care method that promotes well-being during care for both care recipients and caregivers. This study evaluated the impact of Humanitude training for professional caregivers on refusal of care behaviors in older adults with cognitive impairment in an acute care setting. Methods Two 4-day Humanitude care method (HCM) trainings were conducted for 23 healthcare professionals from six geriatric wards of an acute hospital. Training included theory, simulation, and clinical practice of Humanitude techniques with identified older adults. The participants identified 17 older adults with cognitive impairment who routinely refuse care. Refusal of care was measured at baseline and after Humanitude training using the Refusal of Care Informant Scale (RoCIS). Results Most of the 23 healthcare professionals participating in the training were nurses, 78%, with an average of seven years of experience. The older adults identified were women (65%), with an average age of 83. All the older adults identified had a diagnosis of a major neurocognitive disorder, and the average Functional Assessment Staging Tool score was 4.9. The average RoCIS scores decreased by 71.4% after the participants used Humanitude techniques during the training’s clinical practice. Conclusion A brief 4-day HCM training reduced care refusal by older adults with cognitive impairment. Implementing Humanitude care methods could improve caregiver capacity to address care refusal challenges and mitigate its effects on caregiving. Studies on Humanitude’s sustainability and outcomes are needed for caregiver and organizational adoption.

Patient–provider communication has been recognized as a critical area of focus for improved health care quality, with a mounting body of evidence tying patient satisfaction and provider communication to important health care outcomes. Despite this, few programs have been studied in the emergency department (ED) setting. The authors designed a communication curriculum and conducted trainings for all ED clinical staff. Although only 72% of clinicians believed the course would be a valuable use of their time before taking it, 97% reported that it was a valuable use of their time after ( P < .001). Pre-course self-evaluation of knowledge, skill, and ability were high. Despite this, post-course self-efficacy improved statistically significantly. This study suggests that it is possible, in a brief training session, to deliver communication content that participants felt was relevant to their practice, improved their skills and knowledge, changed their attitude, and was perceived to be a valuable use of their time.

Intelligent information systems in geoinformatics are a promising area of science, production and education. An analysis of publications on intelligent GIS is presented following a brief overview of Russian courses and tutorials on the topics of intelligent geographic information systems. The structure and content of lectures and trainings of the course on geoinformation technologies in intellectual sciences, which is being taught to the undergraduate students of the 4th year on the specialty “Cartography and Geoinformatics” at the Department of Geographic Information Systems, Institute of Radio Electronics and Informatics of MIREA – Russian Technological University since 2021, have been considered. A description of software for the course training and application of AI-tool ChatGPT (Chat Generative PreTrained Transformer) were given and discussed. Noted, that the course content should be updated annually based on the materials of GIS- and IT-conferences and scientific papers. Course could be taught to the baccalaureate and masters students, as well as to the students of 5-years education (specialists)

The article presents a brief characteristics of the main ways of human capital development and shows the concept of management by projects (MBP) as a tool for this development. The author based the article on her analysis of specialist literature in the area of management and pedagogy as well as the results of interviews conducted with members of the project teams from a clothing industry company. It was found that the implementation of MBP has a direct impact on the sphere of employee trainings and promotion. Consequently, MBP has an influence not only on the development of human capital components such as knowledge and skills, but also on the motivation.

Indigenous Australians have high rates of mental illness comorbid with substance misuse. The complex needs of this client group create challenges for the alcohol and other drug (AOD) workforce. This paper describes the outcomes of an Indigenous-specific “Yarning about Mental Health” training for the AOD workforce to strengthen knowledge and skills in mental health approaches and in their engagement with Indigenous clients. The training provides culturally adapted strategies and tools for understanding mental health, promoting wellbeing, and delivering brief interventions in the substance misuse setting. A nonexperimental evaluation which incorporated pre-post questionnaires was conducted with workshop participants attending one of four trainings. The training was perceived to be highly appropriate and helpful in participants’ work with Indigenous AOD clients. There was significant improvement in confidence and knowledge related to Indigenous mental health and wellbeing and qualitative data supported these positive outcomes. This study supports the need to blend Indigenous concepts of health and wellbeing with non-Indigenous ways of understanding and treating illness in order to develop services which are appropriate to Indigenous peoples. It also suggests research is required to understand whether self-reported increases in knowledge and confidence can translate into behavioural changes in participants' teaching and practice of culturally competent care and to improved client outcomes.

Telemedicine today is a tool that may be considered to optimize the logistics of medical care and to reduce the financial costs of clinics. The article presents a brief report on the Center’s activities in the field of “telemedicine” and identifies the main difficulties and prospects for this work.

Abstract The dairy industry’s Farmers Assuring Responsible Management (F.A.R.M.) program expects annual employee training in cattle handling. Offering meaningful, accessible educational courses should be a priority of the industry as consumers demand quality care for cattle from farm to table when they make purchasing decisions. In response to this industry expectation, SDSU Extension offered multiple formats for cattle handling trainings. Methods used with University students and dairy employees to teach skills of proper cattle handling as it relates to quality products and animal well-being will be discussed. The objective is to evaluate knowledge gained and present outcomes learned from the trainings. In 2018, cattle handling and a brief introduction to the F.A.R.M. program was taught in an upperclassman Physiology of Lactation course (n=25 students) through two 50-minute lectures and one 2-hour hands-on cattle lab. Students were evaluated using multiple-choice questions as part of an exam. In 2019, one 50-minute lecture introducing the F.A.R.M. program and one 2-hour lecture/hands-on cattle lab on basic stockmanship skills was presented to the underclassman Introduction to Dairy Science course (n=27 students). Students were evaluated using a 10-question lab worksheet with multiple-choice, true-false, and short answer questions plus seven questions on a later exam. The same year, a pre and post evaluation quiz was implemented with farm employees for cattle handling trainings on a commercial dairy (n=19 employees). Students in 2018 had an average score of 79.43%, while students in 2019 had an average score of 93.60% on the lab worksheet and 84.26% on the exam questions. The employee average score on the pre-test was 78.95% and 87.89% on the post-test. Students scored well overall. Despite improvement in the post-test scores, employees scored high on the pre-test. Further evaluation of cattle handling teaching methods using strategic assessments is needed to better understand whether implementation of proper skills is occurring from the knowledge learned. Adding follow-up accountability may enhance implementation of consistent proper care and maintain consumer confidence in dairy products.

In this paper, a deep learning (DL)-based physical (PHY) layer authentication framework is proposed to enhance the security of industrial wireless sensor networks (IWSNs). Three algorithms, the deep neural network (DNN)-based sensor nodes’ authentication method, the convolutional neural network (CNN)-based sensor nodes’ authentication method, and the convolution preprocessing neural network (CPNN)-based sensor nodes’ authentication method, have been adopted to implement the PHY-layer authentication in IWSNs. Among them, the improved CPNN-based algorithm requires few computing resources and has extremely low latency, which enable a lightweight multi-node PHY-layer authentication. The adaptive moment estimation (Adam) accelerated gradient algorithm and minibatch skill are used to accelerate the training of the neural networks. Simulations are performed to evaluate the performance of each algorithm and a brief analysis of the application scenarios for each algorithm is discussed. Moreover, the experiments have been performed with universal software radio peripherals (USRPs) to evaluate the authentication performance of the proposed algorithms. Due to the trainings being performed on the edge sides, the proposed method can implement a lightweight authentication for the sensor nodes under the edge computing (EC) system in IWSNs.

Aim:A qualitative research project to explore how clients experienced their short-term therapy and the therapeutic relationship with trainee integrative practitioners; focusing on capturing clients’ unarticulated thoughts, feelings, transferences and interactions (i.e. psychological depth).Method:IPA was chosen as it looks for em bodied, experiential meanings and uses a systematic analysis to examine in detail how individuals make sense of a phenomenon. Face-to-face semi-structured interviews were conducted individually with clients who had recently ended their therapy at a low-cost counselling agency. An ‘object-tray’ of miniature objects was used in each interview to facilitate access to clients’ intrapsychic processes and metaphorical thinking.Findings:Clients entered therapy with wide-ranging fears and doubts that linked to negative, defensive and resistant behaviour, however, if they overcame their fears their commitment and collaboration in therapy increased. Findings also illustrate how clients reflected upon their therapy and therapeutic relationships. Three superordinate themes emerged: Therapy as dangerous; Feeling safe and understood; Journeying together for personal discovery and change.Implications:The impact of this study could influence assessment procedures, counselling services, therapeutic practice and trainings by helping assessors and therapists develop their skills in addressing client fears and aid understanding of the underlying reasons for drop-outs. This study emphasises the need for therapists to surface and attend to client fears and to obtain client feedback both early on and continually throughout the course of therapy and for therapists to work collaboratively according to clients’ needs and wants.

Introduction As part of high-quality cancer care, healthcare professionals (HCPs) play a significant role in identifying and addressing specific needs of cancer patients parenting minor children. However, HCPs experience various barriers to adequately support parents with cancer. This systematic review explores current CSTs incorporating child- and family- specific modules for HCPs in oncology. Moreover, outcome measures and effectiveness of trainings are systematically investigated. Methods The systematic review was registered within PROSPERO (registration code: CRD42020139783). Systematic searches were performed in four databases (PubMed, Cinahl, PsycInfo, Web of Science) in 12/2020, including an update in 12/2021 and 08/2022. Quantitative, primary studies fulfilling the pre-defined inclusion criteria were included. Due to the expected heterogeneity a meta-analysis was not conducted. Study selection and quality assessment were conducted by two independent researchers, data extraction by one. Study quality was assessed using an adapted version of the National Institutes of Health quality assessment tool for pre-post studies without control group. Results Nine studies were included in this review following an experimental pre-post design only. Two CSTs were specifically designed to improve communication with cancer patients parenting minor children, the remaining seven incorporated a brief family module only. Seven programs were face-to-face trainings, one an e-learning and one a webinar. Eight studies found at least one statistically significant improvement in communication after training. However, quality of most studies was fair. Conclusion This is the first review exploring specific CSTs for HCPs caring for cancer patients parenting minor children. As only two CSTs focused on parental cancer, evidence on the effectiveness of such CSTs is limited. Existing CSTs should be evaluated properly and include details on content of family modules. Further studies including and evaluating specific CSTs focusing on parental cancer are needed in order to strengthen HCPs’ competencies to meet specific needs of patients parenting minor children.

Abstract MADURA is an R25 Advancing Diversity in Aging Research (ADAR) undergraduate training program funded by the National Institute on Aging and based at the University of California San Diego. Its objectives are to improve retention and academic success of underrepresented minority (URM) trainees, and to increase graduate/medical school applications and/or entry into Aging/ADRD careers. This multi-component program includes paid research lab experience, research and academic skills training, peer support, faculty-led small groups, guest seminars, and additional professional development opportunities. The Year 1 Cohort of 32 students consisted of Hispanic/Latinx and other students under-represented in collegiate MSTEM studies. Almost ¾ of the mentees also came from disadvantaged backgrounds, per current NIH criteria. Evaluation data have been collected through brief, weekly, anonymous online student surveys, plus more comprehensive quarterly mentee and mentor surveys. This poster will describe the Program structure and 20+ group activities, trainings, seminars, and modalities, and report student ratings of satisfaction and utility. 92% of trainees rated the overall program value as Excellent, and 92% also rated effectiveness in promoting Aging/ADRD careers among underrepresented students as Excellent. Quality ratings of components such as pay, research placements, group training and group mentorship were rated as Excellent or Good by 96%. Relative student component rankings, specific suggestions for improvements, plus Mentee and Mentor perspectives on research-specific training needs, will also be presented. Based upon these experiences and data, the authors will make specific suggestions for future URM research training, mentorship program content, and expanded delivery modalities.

To improve the quality of intrapartum care in public health facilities of Bihar, India, a statewide quality improvement program was implemented. Nurses participated in simulation sessions to improve their clinical, teamwork, and communication skills. Nurse mentors, tasked with facilitating these sessions, received training in best practices. To support the mentors in the on-going facilitation of these trainings, we developed a digital, interactive, comic series starring “Super Divya”, a simulation facilitation superhero. The objective of these modules was to reinforce key concepts of simulation facilitation in a less formal and more engaging way than traditional didactic lessons. This virtual platform offers the flexibility to watch modules frequently and at preferred times. This pilot study involved 205 simulation educators who were sent one module at a time. Shortly before sending the first module, nurses completed a baseline knowledge survey, followed by brief surveys after each module to assess change in knowledge. Significant improvements in knowledge were observed across individual scores from baseline to post-survey. A majority found Super Divya modules to be acceptable and feasible to use as a learning tool. However, a few abstract concepts in the modules were not well-understood, suggesting that more needs to be done to communicate their core meaning of these concepts.

This article arises from qualitative, embodied, arts-based research. Research began by interviewing ClydeRae Jolie-Ashe, master trainer in the GYROKINESIS® and GYROTONIC® methods. Additional data were gathered from experiential physical practice and reflections on continuing education trainings in Gyrokinesis and Gyrotonic. Results include a brief description of the Gyrokinesis and Gyrotonic methods, contextual somatic principles and background on ClydeRae Jolie-Ashe. Topics explored within the interview include experiencing kinaesthetic joy in movement, perspectives on ageing, feminine presence and the impact of community in somatic bodywork. From tracking physical experiences and sensory observations, kinaesthetic, emotive awareness(es) and cognitive questions emerged, resulting in multidimensional, poetic transcriptions. In conclusion, the importance of somatic communities, feminine role models and a commitment to embodied practice were examined. Contemplating the sustenance that I have received from teaching and learning somatic bodywork has led me towards an understanding of physical spirituality and the curious, emerging path of somatic sustainability.

The article presents the results of an empirical study, the main tasks of which were to identify the features of the value-semantic sphere among students studying at the law faculty and students studying at the faculty of psychology. The sample consisted of 128 students studying at the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Legal Psychology. The hypotheses of the research were made by the assumption that, firstly, there are statistically significant differences in the system of life meanings, life-span and career orientations, in the leading values of law students and students of the psychology department, and, secondly, there is an interconnection of life-meaning orientations with educational motivation of students of law and psychological faculties. The authors conducted a brief analysis of the characteristics of the formation of the value-semantic sphere of the personality during the period of study at the university. The results obtained in the study can be used when conducting individual psychological counseling with students, when planning and conducting trainings aimed at the formation of students' professional self-awareness.

Aim: Hostility and its behavioral components, anger and aggression are psychosocial risk factors for coronary heart disease. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of physical training on the level of negative emotions, the cognitive aspect of adaptation to disease and physical capacity in patients after MI who participated in cardiac rehabilitation. Materials and Methods: We enrolled 60 post-MI men and women in the study. They underwent an 8-week training program. Before and after completion of trainings patients underwent exercise test and a psychological examination.The Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire and the Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire were performed with results analysis in the entire group and in subgroups of men, women, patients under 60 years of age (younger) and over 60 years of age (older). Results: After rehabilitation a significant reduction in the general level of negative emotions was found in younger: 67.8±4.6 vs 63.9±3.7 points (p< 0.01). Similarly, a significant reduction in the sense of the impact of the disease on life was found only in younger 6.96±0.5 vs 5.48±0.5 points (p<0.01). There was a significant improvement in overall adaptation to the disease in women from 40.6±2.2 to 35.7±1.9 points (p < 0.05).Moreover,patients with higher levels of negative emotions had more difficulty adapting to the disease r=0.361, p<0.01. Physical capacity increased significantly in all groups. Conclusions: Participating in cardiac rehabilitation improved physical capacity, beneficially contributed to a decrease in negative emotions and had a positive effect on disease adaptation but only in younger post -MI patients.

Purpose National Széchényi Library is introducing a new blended learning-based curriculum model on Web archiving for public collection professionals. The purpose of this paper is to describe this curriculum concept together with its international context. Design/methodology/approach A qualitative case study is being offered. The concept of the curriculum applying the results of an international questionnaire of the International Internet Preservation Consortium. A detailed curriculum structure is being presented together with a brief description of the major professional/ methodological concepts. It is based on constructive pedagogical approach. Based on the same general approach, some major methodological differences among the on-site and e-learning elements of curriculum design are also being described. Findings There is a high need to offer trainings in Web archiving filed to digital library professionals throughout Europe. A complex curriculum is highly needed to different target groups by various course delivery forms. The course concept offers a solid base; however, the structure of the curriculum has to reflect to the differences of specific methodological requirements in on-site and e–learning environments. A main goal of the study is describing the possibility to build-up that kind of hibrid blended learning-based training structure. Based on the described curriculum trainings are starting on April 2019. Sharing practical experiences about practical training activities based on this course structure can initiate further discussion on web archiving education field in the future. Research limitations/implications This paper would like to imitate some further discussions about methodological issues by developing education and training curricula on Web archiving in various European countries. By the framework of the Training Working Group of the International Internet Preservation Consortium, these proposed discussions can be elaborated. Practical implications The main practical implications are to encourage other partner libraries by the framework of the Training Working Group of International Internet Preservation Consortium to build-up similar training programmes and to plan various collaborative activities in this field. Social implications The proposed curriculum aims to acquire some major skills and competences on web archiving field by librarians from both the research library and public library sectors. The course can be available to museum professionals and archivists […]. The main goal is to learn to build-up small-scale web archiving projects in local, institutional environments in Hungary. It is quite necessary to preserve Web documents and other materials that are reflecting to the life of the local society. The social impact of preserving the local Web history can be overwhelming in the future. Originality/value Much untapped potential exists for librarians, archivists and museum professionals to plan and realize Web archiving projects in their own local institutional environments. This paper describes a new type of national model to offer them getting the necessary skills and competences in this field. There is a significant gap of describing education concepts in Web archiving.

Abstract Objective: Aotearoa New Zealand, a commonwealth country, is situated in the South Pacific Ocean, in the southwestern most part of Polynesia. The country comprises two main islands – the North and South Islands – with total population of 5 million. Within this context, the authors describe mental health (including indigenous Māori perspective), psychiatrist training, mental healthcare system, and recent research in New Zealand. This review is intended to familiarize the readers of the Taiwanese Journal of Psychiatry with the current status of psychiatric practice in New Zealand. Methods: The authors of this review collected and reviewed relevant literature on psychiatric care, education, training, and research in New Zealand. In addition, official government publications, such as reports from the Stats New Zealand and Ministry of Health, were examined to gather relevant data. Results: After providing a brief overview of New Zealand’s geography and history, the authors describe two major ethnic groups, New Zealanders of European descents, and the Māori, who are descendants of Polynesian settlers. Then, the prevalence of psychiatric diseases, trainings for the psychiatrist workforce, the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, the New Zealand Mental Health Act, and recent psychiatric research are highlighted. Conclusion: New Zealand, with dominant European and Māori cultural groups and an emerging Asian population, has a growing, diverse population. Its universal healthcare system, restructured in 2022 under Te Whatu Ora (Health New Zealand) is aimed at enhancing efficiency and equity but faces challenges like Māori underrepresentation in the psychiatry workforce and rising demands from the growing Asian community. While mental health issues have gained government attention, future advancements are needed to improve psychiatrist recruitment and retention, enhance equitable service delivery, strengthen mental health laws, and increase psychiatry funding.

The scientific article is devoted to the problem of determining the psychological and pedagogical conditions of media literacy formation in the cadets of the National Academy of the National Guard of Ukraine during their professional training. A brief analysis of the concept «media literacy» revealed that it includes the skills to analyze, assess and use media communication in different forms and genres. A classification of objective and subjective psychological and pedagogical conditions for the formation of media literacy for cadets has been proposed. It has been established that the objective psychological and pedagogical conditions for the formation of media literacy in cadets include: diagnostics of the media literacy level, formation of subject-subject relationships in the educational process, conducting trainings on media literacy and the development of the ability for critical thinking, compliance with the psychological and pedagogical structure in the study of media literacy in the process of professional training, stimulating the process of self-development of cadets in the direction of mastering the skills of media literacy, prevention of mental health issues in cadets due to the influence of media on the psyche. Subjective conditions are the following: social responsibility, critical thinking, locus of control, emotional intelligence. The attention is focused on the formation of conscious behavior in the Internet, in particular, understanding of the causes and consequences of destructive information and psychological threats, compliance with the critical distance to various genres of media texts in media communications, recognition of psychological mechanisms of impact on the identity of the cadet through emotions. The described psychological and pedagogical conditions for the formation of media literacy in the cadets of the National Academy of the National Guard of Ukraine will contribute to increasing the resistance of future officers to the negative impact of media, increase the level of media literacy, the ability to control the consumption of media products; it is easier to navigate the media space, to distinguish information from official sources from destructive information, which may harm both a personality and the state as a whole.

Purpose Parents of children who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) often report difficulty engaging their children in successful reading experiences. Shared book reading (SBR) is associated with many aspects of language growth for children who are deaf and hard of hearing. The primary purpose of this pilot study was to investigate the effectiveness of a 4-week training program in improving caregiver knowledge of emergent literacy features and SBR practices for deaf and hard-of-hearing children. Method Three caregivers with infants or toddlers who were DHH attended a 4-week SBR training. Each week focused on a specific language or literacy construct taught within the context of a picture storybook. Pre- and posttest questionnaires were used to assess caregivers' knowledge of SBR and early literacy. An additional follow-up questionnaire was completed to rate self-perceived changes in confidence levels and overall satisfaction with the training. Results All caregivers made gains in knowledge of shared-book reading practices. Caregivers reported increased confidence in their ability to implement SBR practices at home with their child who was DHH. Caregivers also shared important insight regarding ways in which this pilot program can be improved for the future. Conclusions This study contributes to the field by determining that knowledge gains and increased confidence can result from a brief caregiver training, as well as providing suggestive feedback for future trainings of this nature. Our supplemental materials include the PowerPoint files that were used for this training. Early identification of young children who are DHH and the provision of appropriate amplification or hearing technology, such as hearing aids or cochlear implants, has given children greater access to oral language. Early provision of services may provide families the support they need to become actively involved in promoting their child's linguistic development ( Moeller, 2000 ). Family involvement, in the form of parent–child reading, has led to gains within receptive and expressive vocabulary, narrative skills, and later reading comprehension for children who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH; Ezell et al., 2000 ; Hargrave & Sénéchal, 2000 ; Zevenbergen & Whitehurst, 2003 ). Introduction and purpose: Nutrition plays an important role in the lives of young athletes. A well-balanced diet is crucial not only for their sports performance, but also for their proper growth and optimal health. The aim of this study is to evaluate the dietary intake of the School of Sports Championship students. A brief description of the state of knowledge: When compared to the nutritional needs of regular teenagers, young athletes have higher caloric requirements. They need to follow precise meal scheduling, must maintain proper hydration, and sometimes need to use dietary supplements. Moreover, adolescent athletes, especially females, have a higher risk of athlete triad, anemia, or eating disorders. In addition, young athletes seem to be unaware of the importance of their diet and how it directly affects their overall health and athletic performance. Conclusions: The results of this study indicate that the dietary choices of young athletes significantly affect their sports performance. We found a correlations between the duration of trainings and the intake of sequentially: protein, fiber, and vitamin D. Also, we discovered that female athletes consume less vitamin D and iron compared to male athletes, which may lead to a dangerous health implications, including anemia or the female athlete triad. However, there is a need for more prospective randomized clinical trials conducted on a larger sample size to reach final conclusions.

Abstract After a brief introduction on history of activities of Japan Academy for the Prevention of Elder Abuse for the past 20 years, this study presents trends in number of elder abuse cases that were reported and substantiated as “elder abuse”, and trends in reporters and types of abuse in both institutional and domestic settings by using the nationwide data collected by the Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare each year since the Act on the Prevention of Elder Abuse was enacted in 2006. The number of elder abuse cases in 2022 increased 5.3% compared to that in 2021 in domestic settings, while about 17% of increase for institutional settings. And the data in 2022 showed only 7.4% of the municipalities had implemented “leadership trainings” to promote actions and measures to prevent elder abuse in institutions and agencies that provide nursing care services; accordingly, it is not surprising, without leaders, the number of elder abuse cases reported and substantiated as elder abuse increased. Moreover, although there was no amendment of the Act on the Prevention of Elder Abuse, we discuss the most recent policy amendment on “Responses to Elder Abuse and Support for Caregivers in Municipalities and Prefectures”, so-called National Manual, which was enacted in April 2023 for the first time in 5 years. This policy change required a collaboration between prefectures and municipalities to develop infrastructure to prevent elder abuse. Finally, we make recommendations for solving issues identified during the past 20 years.

IntroductionPsoriasis (PS) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease accompanied by reduced quality of life. Mindfulness is the ability to focus on the present moment without evaluation. Findings on the effects of 8-week mindfulness trainings in patients with PS reveal positive effects on the severity of the disease and quality of life. However, it remained unclear what distinguishes patients with PS interested in psychological interventions from those without interest and whether also a shorter, namely 2-week mindfulness-based intervention is beneficial in this patient group. This will be investigated with this study.Methods and analysesData will be collected at a rehabilitation clinic in Germany. The study is divided into two parts: study 1a is an observational study. Its aim is to investigate whether sociodemographic, skin-related and psychological factors are significant predictors of interest in a brief psychological intervention in 127 patients with PS. Study 1b is a randomised controlled trial, in which 60 patients (retrieved from study 1a) will be randomised to an intervention or control group (treatment as usual). The main outcome variables are mindfulness and self-compassion. In addition, mediation analyses will be used in an explorative manner to test whether there is a relationship between mindfulness/self-compassion and the severity of PS and whether it is mediated by itch catastrophising and fear of negative evaluation (first model) or perceived stress (second model).Ethics and disseminationThe study protocol has been approved by the University of Giessen. Study results will be disseminated by publication of the results at (inter) national conferences and in scientific journals.Trial registration numbersDRKS00017426 and DRKS00017429.

Abstract Background: Current psychological trauma-focused interventions have left a gap for individuals who may not be ready for trauma-focused treatment and/or who present with other forms of clinically significant distress, such as subthreshold post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Emotion regulation is a possible transdiagnostic mechanism of change that may promote and maintain some of the varied mental health problems related to trauma exposure. Aims: This study examines the feasibility and initial impact of two brief emotion regulation skill trainings targeting different processes hypothesized to reduce trauma-related problems, compared with an active control. Method: Subjects (n = 156) were randomized to receive one of three brief internet-based trainings: (1) skill training on accepting emotions, (2) skill training on changing emotions, or (3) stress psychoeducation (control). Participants completed measures of emotion regulation, mindfulness, and affect intensity 24 hours pre- and immediately post-training. Results: Results suggested that a brief internet-based skills training programme was feasible and acceptable, with 91.9% completing the training programme to which they were randomized. Results showed that participants in all conditions demonstrated significant decreases in emotion regulation problems over time; yet these improvements did not vary by condition. Participants in the Change condition with higher PTSD symptoms were significantly more likely to have greater increases in positive affect compared with those with lower PTSD symptoms. Conclusions: Although the three conditions did not show different outcomes, all three brief internet-delivered trainings were feasible. Results provide direction for future studies to evaluate the delivery of emotion regulation skills in individuals with trauma-related distress.

Purpose: Authors discuss program theory and the crafting of long-term care based educational trainings, derived from implementing New Jersey’s mandated legislative policy. Method: This article applies program theory to explain how trainings were designed and implemented, thereby illustrating how sometimes change mechanisms may not be the intervention itself but the response that the activities generated. Results: Program created activities triggered desirable mechanisms to occur which then led to desired educational outcomes. In brief, university social work educators observed the paucity of research on LGBT+ older adults, ran focus groups at senior centers and nutrition sites, and responded to legislation passed in March 2020. Conclusion: Social work researchers, expert in HIV/AIDS, combined efforts via a multi-university collaboration and developed trainings based on local and national research to meet requirements of the S2545 NJ bill. Trainings were created and offered by both a for-profit organization and university collaboration and evaluation measures have been considered.
