Résumé :

This essay discusses the circulation of the language of caste in the Indian world in the context of the Portuguese empire. Caste is an inevitable word in the moment of considering the Indian social system, as well as to compare it with European/Western societies. Since it was a word initially brought by the Portuguese to the Indian world, it is relevant to ask whether the Portuguese played an important role in its transformation into such a relevant social category. Six of the most important sixteenth-century narratives about the Portuguese presence in India, as well as treatises, letters, legal documents, vocabularies and dictionaries of the early-modern period will be under scrutiny in order to identify the variations of the word “casta”, its circulation in Estado da Índia, and beyond it. The analysis of these sources will also permit to understand how Portuguese colonial experience shaped the future meanings of “casta”, and therefore, the ways “casta” shaped Indian society (and not only).

Il saggio proposto intende analizzare l'importanza della canzone sociale come strumento d'espressione popolare nella Parigi degli anni quaranta del XIX secolo. L'autore offre una panoramica storiografica internazionale degli studi sulla canzone popolare, soffermandosi soprattutto sul contesto italiano e francese. La prospettiva adottata permette all'autore di considerare il canto nella sua globalitÀ, sia come "testo" che come "pratica sociale". Attraverso il concetto di sociabilitÀ, l'attenzione si focalizza sui modi di circolazione della produzione canora. Il lavoro archivistico sulle carte di polizia permette di mettere in luce i luoghi di diffusione del canto, come la strada, i cabaret e le associazioni musicali popolari, come le goguettes. L'autore svolge uno studio approfondito dei testi musicali per presentare alcuni importanti aspetti della politica e del pensiero dell'artigiano-operaio. Si evince chiaramente la funzione della canzone come un luogo d'emancipazione, come spazio di riflessione e di rivendicazione del lavoratore.

Lo studio dell'innovazione è un'area di ricerca in rapida crescita degli studi organizzativi. Tra i diversi punti di attenzione, la distinzione tra organizzazioni pubbliche e private ha rappresentato per lungo tempo uno dei temi maggiormente discussi. All'interno di questo ambito di studio, questo contributo si pone l'obiettivo di comprendere se la trasformazione di un istituto di ricerca da ente pubblico a fondazione privata costituisca di per sé un'innovazione organizzativa. Gli autori presentano uno studio di caso in cui vengono esplorate le dinamiche di trasformazione a partire da tre specifiche, ma interdipendenti, angolazioni: i processi di; l'introduzione del primo contratto collettivo di lavoro privato della ricerca; le procedure amministrative e contabili. L'ultima parte è dedicata a rispondere in modo complessivo alla domanda di ricerca alla base di questo studio.

La produzione storiografica sulla Cina, sulla Corea e sul Giappone negli ultimi venti anni ha conosciuto un aumento quantitativo, una diversificazione e una ibridazione con le ricerche storiche condotte in altri Paesi. Tuttavia, gli studi storici sull'Asia orientale rimangono tuttora poco sviluppati se confrontati con la vasta produzione linguistica e letteraria che costituisce una porzione cospicua della sinologia, della nipponistica e della coreanistica italiana. La collocazione degli studi storici sull'Asia orientale presenta luci ed ombre. Da un lato, la ridefinizione dello statuto epistemologico degli studi storici areali ha fatto della consultazione di fonti in lingua una componente imprescindibile delle ricerche e ha garantito autonomia e sviluppo allo studio della storia di Cina, Corea e Giappone. Il maggior dialogo con altre discipline ha contribuito inoltre a creare nuove possibilità di integrazione. D'altro canto, queste storie rimangono tuttora appendice, mentre sarebbe auspicabile che fossero percepite e riconosciute come parte integrante del progresso storico umano, pur con tutte le loro specificità.

Résumé :

This study aims to determine the prohibition of inter-caste marriage in Ngafan Village, Southeast Maluku, and Islamic legal views on caste marriage in the customs of the Kei tribe, especially in Ngafan Village, Southeast Maluku Regency. This research is descriptive qualitative research with the type of field research (Field Research). The data collection techniques used were in-depth interviews and documentation. The results showed that: 1) The prohibition of inter-caste marriage (not equal) carried out by some people in Ngafan Village is the prohibition of marriage between women from the Mel-Mel caste (highest caste) and men from Riy-Riy (lowest caste). If there is a marriage between these castes, it depends on their family, if they agree then the marriage is still safe, but if they refuse the marriage can be canceled. 2) In Islamic law the scholars differ on the issue of caste (equality) in marriage. Jumhur ulama said that the caste referred to in marriage is religion, independence, social strata and, descent. Imam Malik said that the caste in question was the religion and was free from diseases that were deemed incurable. Meanwhile, the al-Ẓahiriyyah mazhab said that only Muslims were the conditions for marriage. The scholars do not require that caste be part of the legal requirements of marriage, but caste is included in the category of luzu> m requirements, a condition that allows a female guardian to request an annulment of marriage if the male partner is not in the same caste. So the prohibition of marriage is not equal in Ngafan Village can be justified based on the opinion of some scholars. The implementation of this research is expected to contribute theoretically and practically to religious leaders, parties with special interests, and society in general.

La persona oggigiorno si trova all'interno di un vortice di cambiamenti. Questa situazione č tanto piů percepibile nei momenti di passaggio tra una fase e l'altra della vita come quella che vede la persona avvicinarsi al mondo del lavoro. Le istituzioni sono chiamate, pertanto, a sostenere le persone nel loro processo di crescita e nel percorso formativo che permette loro di dotarsi di strumenti per l'orientamento e per il governo della complessitŕ. Azioni in questa direzione, utili nell'incontro tra la persona e il mondo del lavoro, sono quelle previste nella disciplina dell'alto apprendistato. Nel presente articolo si sottolineano, a partire dalla lettura della normativa, quegli aspetti legati alla progettazione formativa e di ricerca di percorsi di dottorato in alto apprendistato facendo cenno anche all'esperienza della sperimentazione in atto presso l'Universitŕ degli Studi di Padova.

Gli studi sull’attorialità e sul divismo sembrano solo apparentemente distanti dal campo letterario, eppure alcuni testi fondativi degli Stardom Studies intercettano questioni cruciali relative alle teorie del personaggio, al paradigma del doppio, alle riflessioni su fiction e non-fiction, al dibattito sempre aperto sulle scritture del sé. Tale contributo, attraverso il caso di studio di Elsa de’ Giorgi (attrice-scrittrice, diva del cinema dei telefoni bianchi) intende mostrare il significato ermeneutico della categoria di divagrafia (scrittura delle e sulle dive) e la sua feconda tensione transdisciplinare.

Résumé :

ABSTRACT Dehydration of ricinoleic of castor oil into mixed of linoleic acid (LA) and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) named DCO (dehydrated Castor Oil) was conducted by using P2O5 at temperature 125°C and 175°C were held time variety at 1, 2, 3 and 4 hour. Dehydration was maintained under reduced pressure 50 to 70 mmHg, gentle bubbling with Nitrogen , magnetically stirred between 800 to 1000 rpm and 0.1 g Zn powder as antipolymerization agent. The concentration changes of the ricinoleic and DCO followed by contrentation GC. The elucidation of ricinoleic, LA and CLA were analyzed by GC-MS. The result showed that reaction was first order with rate constant (k) was 1.0 × 10-2 h-1 at 125°C and 0.9631 h-1 at 175°C and energy of activation (Ea) was 191.152 kJmol-1and Keywords: Dehydration, Kinetic, Ricinoleic, LA and CLA.

Penelitian ini berjudul “Penggunaan Teknik Bel Canto Dalam Lagu Il Sogno Ciptaan Isyana Sarasvati”. Bel canto menjadi salah satu teknik vokal yang perlu dipelajari secara detail dan dalam jangka waktu yang panjang. Isyana Sarasvati menjadi salah satu penyanyi Indonesia yang menguasai teknik bel canto. teknik bel canto yang dimiliki oleh Isyana menjadi salah satu gaya musik yang berbeda yang diterapkan dalam beberapa lagunya. Penelitian ini dimaksud untuk mengidentifikasi penggunaan teknik bel canto seperti apa yang diterapkan oleh Isyana Sarasvati dalam lagu Il Sogno. Tanggapan beberapa komunitas musik menjadi bukti bahwa lagu Il Sogno memiliki teknik vokal yang berbeda di Industri Musik Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus sehingga hasil dari penelitian ini berupa data-data yang disajikan dalam bentuk deskripsi atau penejelasan secara terperinci mengenai informasi yang telah ditemukan selama proses penelitian dengan maksud untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis bagaimana teknik bel canto yang diterapkan oleh Isyana Sarasvati..Kata kunci : Bel canto, Il Sogno, Isyana Sarasvati, karakter dan ciri teknik bel canto

Obiettivo: Nelle ricerche sui consumi di sostanze psicotrope, solitamente il contesto viene trattato come un prodotto di processi strutturali più ampi, riducendo le possibilità di una comprensione più accurata delle specificità locali. Durante il lavoro sul campo (2017-2018), Milano Rogoredo veniva considerata la più grande scena aperta del consumo osservabile nel nord Italia. L’obiettivo della ricerca è quello di documentare come il contesto in esame viene influenzato dalle pratiche di consumo e viceversa. Metodologia: La ricerca si serve della metodologia del caso studio per raccogliere e mettere in dialogo diversi tipi di informazioni. L’approccio etnografico utilizzato include interviste in profondità e semi strutturate (42), osservazione partecipante (70 giorni), articoli di cronaca, mappe e fotografie. La cornice teorica post-strutturalista, si basa sugli elementi analitici proposti da Duff (2007): spazio, incorporamento e pratiche. Risultati: La scena aperta del consumo di Rogoredo si configura come un luogo di segregazione socio-spaziale. Le pratiche di consumo che la caratterizzano, creano uno spazio di resistenza nella città tossica. Il disordine droga-correlato percepito dai cittadini porta alla richiesta di purificazione sociale e spaziale. La zona di resistenza che si configura nella scena aperta del consumo fa emergere di legami di comunità e favorisce la diffusione di pratiche di consumo, che richiedono competenze specifiche. La tecnologia della siringa riproduce mondi e divisioni sociali, così come differenze generazionali. La violenza permea le routine e le pratiche quotidiane, che includono lavoro sessuale droga correlato e attività informali di sussistenza. La mancanza di interventi di riduzione del danno strutturati e duraturi riduce lo spazio per negoziare questa violenza. Limiti/implicazioni: I risultati sono specifici del contesto in cui lo studio è stato condotto. I contatti e le informazioni sono stati raccolti in buona parte attraverso gli interventi di riduzione del danno (gatekeeeper). Considerata la strategia di reclutamento adottata, i consumatori non possono essere considerati come rappresentativi della popolazione di riferimento. Valore aggiunto: Nonostante un’ampia letteratura internazionale, l’Italia mostra una mancanza di studi sociologici sulle scene aperte del consumo, in particolare per quanto riguarda l’impatto del contesto sulle pratiche locali di consumo. I risultati possono orientare strategie di riduzione del danno più efficaci e fornire delle evidenze iniziali sull’impatto delle misure istituzionali adottate per far fronte alle scene aperte. La ricerca si propone anche come riferimento per future indagini sulle pratiche di consumo di sostanze psicotrope in relazione al contesto.<br>Purpose: In most recent drug research, context is still treated as a product of broad structural processes, reducing the chances for a more finely-grained understanding of time and place of consumption. At the time of the field work, Milano Rogoredo was the biggest urban open drug scene in northern Italy. Starting form this case study, the goal of the present work is to document how the specific context is produced through the activity of drug use and how the so constructed context intervenes in the modulation of drug use itself. Methodology: In the research, the case study methodology is implied in order to collect and put into dialogue data of different nature. Analysis was conducted through an ethnographic approach which includes in-depth and semi-structured interviews (42), participant observation (70 days), news articles and use of maps and photos. Drawing on a post-structural theoretical framework, the methodology is based on the analytical elements proposed by Duff (2007): space, embodiment and practices. Findings: Drug use practices embedded in the Milano Rogoredo open drug scene impact on space representations creating a place of resistance in the narcotic city. The so-called drug related nuisance tends to result in a claim for social and spatial purification from citizens. The resistance zone that develops within the open drug scene allows the emergence of community bonds and fosters the spread of drug use practices that involve specific skills. The social object of the syringe reproduces social worlds, social divisions and generational differences. Violence permeates the every-day routines and practices which include drug related sex work and beggary. The lack of structured harm reduction interventions reduces the space to negotiate this violence. Research limitations/implications: The results are specific of the context in which the study was conducted. Contacts and data were mainly gained starting from harm reduction interventions, since these organisations provide the most accessible contact with drug users. Given the recruitment strategy adopted, individuals who are part of the study cannot be considered as representative of the drug using population as a whole. Value/practical implications: Despite a wide international literature, Italy shows a lack of sociological accounts of open drug scenes, particularly regarding the impact of context on local drug use practices. This research gives visibility to the effect of the local setting on drug use practices in a long-lasting ODS in Milan (Italy). In the effort to make interventions always more effective, results can orient harm reduction strategies and provide initial evidence on the impact of institutional measures to face ODS. Along with punctual aspects, outcomes can also orient future research on drug consumption practices and context relevance in drug use settings.

L'obiettivo di questa tesi è analizzare e testare la programmazione reattiva, paradigma di programmazione particolarmente adatto per lo sviluppo di applicazioni altamente interattive. La progettazione di sistemi reattivi implica necessariamente l'utilizzo di codice asincrono e la programmazione reattiva (RP) offre al programmatore semplici meccanismi per gestirlo. In questa tesi, la programmazione reattiva è stata utilizzata e valutata mediante la realizzazione di un progetto real-world chiamato AvvocaTimer. Verrà affrontata la progettazione, implementazione e collaudo di una parte del sistema attraverso l'approccio reattivo e, successivamente, confrontata con la prima versione, realizzata con i metodi attualmente usati per gestire codice asincrono, per analizzare vantaggi e/o svantaggi derivanti dall'utilizzo del nuovo paradigma.

I sistemi esperti sono programmi che cercano di riprodurre le prestazioni di esperti umani nella risoluzione di problemi specifici. Essi rappresentano il più conosciuto risultato pratico della ricerca in intelligenza artificiale. Ne vengono analizzate la struttura interna, i paragidmi su cui si basano, i componenti che ne fanno parte e i linguaggi di programmazione principali. Viene studiato uno dei primi distemi esperti: il MYCIN. Esso opera nel campo medico ed è stato di notevole importanza e innovazione nei primi anni in cui questi sistemi venivano sviluppati.

La finanza di progetto, conosciuta come Project Financing (da ora in avanti anche “PF”) rientra tra le forme di PPP contrattuale e rappresenta oggi il più utilizzato modello di cooperazione tra partner pubblico e privato per la realizzazione di opere pubbliche. Nello specifico, un’operazione di PF può essere definita come “Un’operazione di finanziamento di una particolare unità economica, nella quale un finanziatore fa affidamento, sin dallo stato iniziale, sul flusso di cassa e sugli utili dell’unità economica in oggetto, come la sorgente di fondi che consentirà il rimborso del prestito e le attività dell’unità economica come garanzia collaterale del prestito ” (P.K. Nevitt ). L’utilizzo di tale istituto, quindi, permette alla PA di trasferire in capo ai soggetti privati, in tutto o in parte, i costi necessari per progettare e realizzare l’opera, garantendo loro, come unica contropartita dell’operazione, il diritto di gestire e sfruttare economicamente l’opera stessa. Un’operazione di PF di successo deve essere strutturata in modo tale da minimizzare i costi del finanziamento del progetto, e deve chiaramente specificare l’allocazione dei rischi tra partner pubblico e privato

Syftet med att analysera fyra ungdomsböcker av Stefan Casta är att undersöka varje bok för sig, ur ett narratologiskt perspektiv, samtidigt som en jämförelse görs. Syftet är även att uppsatsen ska vara användbar för både lärare och elever i undervisningen och romanernas innehåll och form står i fokus. Jag avslöjar emellertid ledtrådar i romanerna och föreslår därför att romanerna läses innan uppsatsen, för att inte läsupplevelsen ska utebli. I den narratologiska analysen är det aspekter som romanernas handling, karaktärer, miljö, intertextualitet, berättare och berättelsenivåer, fokalisering samt romanens tid som fokuseras. Ett för romanerna gemensamt tema är ”kamp” och det visar sig att Stefan Castas karaktärer ofta är utanför, fundersamma och söker efter mening. Naturen i böckerna skildras både som en idyll och som ett hot och samtliga romaner berättas ur ett jagperspektiv med retrospektiva berättare där olika narrativa nivåer möts.

Studi e progetti europei degli ultimi anni suggeriscono e spiegano come l’Intercomprensione sia da intendere come la nuova frontiera dell’educazione linguistica. Molti di questi studi sottolineano la necessità di spostare il focus delle lezioni scolastiche di lingua straniera dall’insegnamento di una sola LS all’insegnamento di più LS, con il conseguente sviluppo nei giovani di nuove strategie e abilità di comprensione e di apprendimento. Il presente studio di caso si prefigge come obiettivo quello di confrontare i risultati di un primo gruppo (G1) di studenti di terza media (n=52) che studia una sola LS (inglese), con quelli di un secondo gruppo (G2) di studenti di terza media (n= 52) che studia due LS (inglese e spagnolo), ottenuti attraverso un test di Intercomprensione basato su un breve articolo in lingua tedesca, ovvero una lingua a loro sconosciuta e appartenente ad una famiglia linguistica diversa da quella della loro lingua madre (italiana, cioè romanza). Dopo la somministrazione del test di Intercomprensione a tutti gli studenti e dopo un colloquio individuale con alcuni dei partecipanti allo studio di caso, i risultati hanno dimostrato che il G2 sembrerebbe saper utilizzare in modo più efficace le strategie di comprensione del testo attraverso associazioni linguistiche originali.

Il gioco è un concetto che accompagna la vita di innumerevoli specie animali in forme, modi e tempi differenti. L’uomo scopre il gioco sin dai primi mesi di vita. Con l’obiettivo di migliorare la condizione emotiva dell'uomo nello svolgimento delle azioni quotidiane, nasce negli ultimi anni la gamification. Il termine consta nell’integrazione delle tecniche di progettazione dei giochi in contesti esterni ai giochi. Consiste nel progettare ponendo particolare attenzione sul coinvolgimento dell’utente per renderlo capace di sperimentare le emozioni tipiche dello svago: fierezza per le proprie azioni, qualunque esse siano. Gli ambiti di applicazione sono innumerevoli. Questa tesi si concentra sullo studio del contesto aziendale, focalizzandosi sulle mansioni di data entry, allo scopo di creare una piattaforma completa, composta da strumenti informatici ed elementi di gioco, che possa aumentare il coinvolgimento dei dipendenti nel proprio lavoro. Si è scelto questo tipo di attività in quanto composta da incarichi facilmente misurabili e allo stesso tempo poco appassionanti per il dipendente perché altamente meccanici e ripetitivi. La sperimentazione in questo ambito permette quindi di valutare con certezza matematica se i miglioramenti introdotti dall'integrazione delle tecniche di gamification nello stato d’animo dei dipendenti hanno anche la conseguenza di aumentare la produttività, verificando quindi se una piattaforma ludicizzata possa essere auto-sostenibile in ambito aziendale. Al termine della tesi si giungerà ad ottenere il progetto di un sistema completo, composto da software ed attività extra-informatiche, che i dipendenti valuteranno con un questionario. La piattaforma otterrà buoni voti necessitando principalmente di un maggior apporto contenutistico e del contributo professionale di un esperto progettista di giochi perché abbia le potenzialità per diventare un caso di successo.

AbstractThis paper looks at the transformative nature of intangible cultural heritage and its co-relation to the evolution of a community. In order to do so the paper looks at the caste labour of *Naga Kalam Pulluvan Pattu* which is a form of *Kalamezhuth Pattu* where *Kala* means art or picture and *mezuth* is the act of making, and *pattu* is to sing i.e. it is *the song of making art*. It is performed primarily by the Pulluva caste community. Although different regions of Kerala, where this ritual art practice is found often sees other caste groups associated to this practice. Naga Kalam Pulluvan Pattu is a negotiation with snakes of the region where it is mediated through the Pulluvas—at least that is the belief—that the snakes would not destroy crops or bite small children and this ritual will bring prosperity. In 2014, I first saw a performance of Nagakalam Pattu as part of a narrative called *Clear Enigma*directed by Eugenio Barba. Clear Enigma was to have only one performance to celebrate the 50 years anniversary of Odin Teatret at a small village in Denmark called Holstebro where the theatre is located. From what is known, the village of Holstebro is not infested by snakes! Although both ritual and theatre have often been seen as embodied and transformative, this paper looks at what happens to caste labour that is entrenched in belief and a community’s social being, when there is a transference of it as theatre.

Il 15 agosto 1897 Vittorio Emanuele di Savoia-Aosta, conte di Torino, si scontrò in duello con Henri d’Orléans, colpevole di aver offeso l’onore dell’esercito italiano in una corrispondenza giornalistica dall’Etiopia. In particolare, l’italiano voleva salvaguardare il prestigio del regio esercito dopo Adua, che fu la più grave disfatta militare fino ad allora subita in Africa da un esercito europeo. I due governi, però, non volevano dare un carattere nazionale alla vertenza perché impegnati in una politica di riavvicinamento dono anni di tensioni. Il combattimento alla spada Aosta-Orléans, dunque, si presenta come un caso di studio paradigmatico per dimostrare quante esigenze diverse ruotavano intorno a un duello.

Abstract One of the main reasons for the decline of lifetime and premature depreciation of the heat resistant cast steels, with long-term high temperature application, is simultaneous carburization and oxidation of these steels in gaseous atmosphere of CO2.Thus in order to study this effect, the CO2 gas heating-test was carried out in the laboratory and the heat resistant HH cast steel (according to the ACI standard) as well as two other heat resistant cast steels which had different chemical compositions were studied and tested. In order to examine the surface layers, the Electron Microscope and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) analysis were used. To examine the variations in the structure as a result of carburization, the Optical-Microscope was used. Also the EDS analysis was applied for identification of phases in samples' structure. Moreover, the variation of the carbon concentration in the direction of the samples’ thickness was studied. The studies showed that the steels which have more chromium and nickel, are more resistant in relation to this effect or phenomenon, and have less absorption in comparison with other samples.

Abstract Mechanisms of differential-flow-rate-cell corrosion (differential-aeration-cell corrosion caused by differential flow rates) of cast iron in seawater were studied. Potential and current density distributions produced by the differential-flow-rate-cell were measured on actual pumps and a model test cell. Boundary element analysis was also performed on differential-flow-rate-cell corrosion occurred in the model test cell. These studies demonstrate that differential-flow-rate-cell corrosion has characteristics similar to those of galvanic corrosion, and thus can be treated in the same manner as galvanic corrosion.

Abstract The corrosion behavior of duplex stainless steels in open seawaters of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at two different locations namely, Arabian Gulf at east coast and Red Sea at west coast has been studied in order to find out suitable alloys for seawater handling system particularly pumps in desalination plants as the conventional materials like austenitic stainless steel 316 (UNS 31600), iron and copper base alloys failed unexpectedly during early years of operation. Ten duplex stainless steels were immersed in raw and chlorinated seawaters for a period extending 365 to 470 days. Additionally, superaustenitic, austenitic SS 316L (UNS S31600) and austenitic cast-iron were studied for comparison purposes. The corrosion rates and crevice corrosion behavior of the alloys were determined from mass loss data and by determining rate of crevice corrosion occurrence, "R", respectively. The pitting corrosion was studied by macroscopic examination and pit depth determination. The results of the studies show that super duplex steels are most resistant to general and localized corrosion attack. Superaustenitic has nearly the same resistance as that of super duplex steels. In general, forged alloys have much higher corrosion rates than cast duplex steels. Alloys having PREN greater than 38 have extremely low corrosion rates. Presence of copper and tungsten appears to increase the corrosion resistance of duplex steels appreciably.

Abstract Localized corrosion of metal matrix composites in marine environments poses a serious concern to the structural integrity of components made of aluminum based composites. Studies on cast composites of aluminum alloys reinforced with different volume percent of SiC particles of different sizes indicated the enhanced susceptibility of composites to localized corrosion like pitting and crevice corrosion. Aging treatments were performed to enhance the resistance to pitting and crevice attack. These studies were performed to choose the electrochemical technique which provides the maximum information about the mechanism of attack with best sensitivity of detection.

Abstract Intragranular chromium nitrides precipitation in superduplex grades has received much attention due to their negative influence on the material properties. These nitrides are formed due to insufficient time available for the nitrogen supersatured in ferrite to diffuse into austenite during cooling after heat treatment. Based on microstructural investigations, the susceptibility of various cast superduplex alloys to nitride precipitation has been studied as a function of the chemical composition and heat treatment temperature. The influence of such a microstructural state on the pitting corrosion resistance as well as Charpy v-notch tests is also studied. For the conventional cast grades, an increase in nitrogen content of the alloy, increasing heat treatment temperature promotes nitride precipitation. For the highest nitrogen containing cast superduplex composition, intragranular nitrides negatively influence the impact toughness at sub-zero temperatures but do not impact the localized corrosion resistance. The addition of copper as an alloying element to the cast superduplex grade leads to a refinement in the microstructure. This enables shorter diffusion paths for nitrogen and attainment of intragranular nitride free microstructural state.

Abstract The low carbon 46Ni-35Cr-9Mo alloy is a solid solution strengthened cast Ni-Cr-Mo alloy additionally containing Cu and N. This alloy displays the best known mechanical properties and corrosion resistance among the existing cast low carbon Ni-Cr-Mo alloys. This work reports on the properties achievable for a centrifugally cast low carbon 46Ni-35Cr-9Mo alloy tube of 4500 mm length and 55 mm wall thickness. The phase formation after the solidification as well as the influence of heat treatment on the microstructure development is examined. The influence of the various heat treatment states on the mechanical properties as well as corrosion resistance is studied. An extensive testing program has been taken for the determination of mechanical properties on samples taken from different orientations within the centrifugally cast tube. The properties do not exhibit directionality and hence demonstrate the isotropic behavior of the cast product.

Abstract There is significant interest in the development of alumina forming, creep resistant alloys for use in various industrial process environments. It is expected that these alloys can be fabricated into components for use in these environments through centrifugal casting and welding. Based on the successful earlier studies on the development of wrought versions of Alumina Forming Austenitic (AFA) alloys, new alloy compositions have been developed for cast products. These alloys achieve good high-temperature oxidation resistance due to the formation of protective Al2O3 scales while multiple second-phase precipitation strengthening contributes to excellent creep resistance. This work will summarize the results on the development and properties of a centrifugally cast AFA alloy. This paper highlights the strength, oxidation resistance in air and water vapor containing environments, and creep properties in the as-cast condition over the temperature range of 750°C to 900°C in a centrifugally cast heat. Preliminary results for a laboratory cast AFA composition with good oxidation resistance at 1100°C are also presented.

Abstract High chromium white cast irons are used in a number of applications in alumina refineries where wear is a significant issue. However, recent case studies of failures of white irons in high temperature digestion have suggested that significant corrosion of these materials is occurring and this may be leading to accelerated wear rates. In this paper, the corrosion behavior of a series of high chromium (Cr) white irons in concentrated caustic solutions is studied in the laboratory at temperatures from up to 280°C. The morphology of the oxide films is studied along with corrosion rates measured using weight loss measurements, and this is correlated with compositional and microstructural variations in the white irons. The failure mechanisms of these white irons involve preferential corrosion of the matrix, particularly in circumstances where the matrix is pearlitic. Recommendations regarding the heat treatment and compositions of white irons for use in high temperature digestion are made.

Abstract The cavitation corrosion behavior of a commercial cast duplex stainless steel was studied in seawater using an ultrasonically induced cavitation facility at a frequency of 20 kHz and an amplitude of 25 μm. The work included measurements of the free corrosion potential and mass loss in addition to microscopic examinations. Cavitation caused an active shift in the free corrosion potential. The rate of mass loss was negligible in quiescent seawater, while, it significantly increased in the presence of cavitation. The application of cathodic protection reduced the rate of mass loss by 19%. Microscopic examinations revealed that the first signs of cavitation damage were in the form of slip bands and small cavities in the austenite islands and at the ferrite/austenite boundaries. With the progress of cavitation, material loss became mainly at the austenite phase and spread to the ferrite phase at a later stage. Cathodic protection decreased slightly the number of cavities. Cross-sectional examinations revealed the presence of microcracks in the bulk of the material. The microcracks initiated at the surface in the ferrite matrix. Crack propagation was impeded by the austenite islands and branched along parallel slip systems.

CLPR undertook a study to review the implementation of the laws relating to caste discrimination in India – the Protection of Civil Rights Act, 1955, the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 and the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013. The study focuses on the four Southern states – Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala – and analyses data from the Crime in India report of the National Crime Records Bureau, reports of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, and case law from High Courts and the Supreme Court of India.
