he article deals with the history of the development of the Catholic Church in East Timor since the appearance of the first Catholic priests on the island in the 16th century. Since its inception, the Catholic Church has played an important role in the political history of East Timor. In many cases, the Church took the side of the local population against the colonial regime, but became the center of the struggle for independence, turning from an institution closely associated with the Portuguese colonial order, to the institution that discovered a new mission to protect the interests of the T

The church was probably built in the 16th century and then destroyed during the Turkish occupation of Podolia in 1672–1699. In 1716, Bishop Rupniewski rebuilt the church. However, it was not completely rebuilt. The reconstruction of the church lasted throughout the eighteenth century and at the beginning of the nineteenth century. The constant stresses between local, national and international interests frequently informed the rise of conflict, when these various interests were in tension. He goes on to discuss the difficulties that national Churches have experienced in subsequent history. Reputations were turned upside down by the development of evangelical activism in the 1560s. By the late 1560s the city was once more firmly placed in the Roman Catholic camp. Résumé :
On the Problem of Church Slavonic Writing in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the 16–18th Centuries: Religious and Didactic Editions from Two Podlasie Printing Houses. The boundary of Eastern and Western Christianity not only divides Slavs but also fosters the formation of specific space of their contact. For centuries, this space has been represented by Podlasie, which is the borderland of ethnos, languages and confessions. Cultural and spiritual centres of Orthodox Church — Suprasl that possesses unquestionable significance in the history and culture of Podlasie and Zabludov that is also important in some respects — were formed on this border in the 16th century. Historical monuments of writing that were created in Podlasie prove that Church-Slavonic-Ruthenian tradition has become an inseparable part of the common national heritage of the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth. The 16th–18th centuries Cyrillic writings published in Zabludov and Suprasl make it possible to investigate mutual permeation of elements of Slavia Romana and Slavia Orthodoxa cultures. They are also an important source in studies of the Church-Slavonic language and “prosta mova” that was entering religious texts more and more boldly.

Résumé :
The pipe organ, with more than two millennia of history, has been a favourite instrument for centuries. It was also the instrument that played the accompaniment at the massacre of the first Christians. Yet the beauty of its sound helped to ensure that, despite initial dislike, the Church in time (9th-10th centuries) gave it a place in worship. Finally, the Church and the liturgy played a major role in the development of the organ, and it is thanks to the organ that it has taken its present form. The organ appeared in a few places in Hungary and in Transylvania during the 15th and 16th centuries. Organ building and the organ builders themselves began to spread along with the instruments. The organ builder Ignácz Takácsy (1830-1906), whom I have researched, was one of the most prolific organ builders in Transylvania. I was saddened to find that the literature contains only a negligible amount of information about this master, who was active for 40 years (1860-1900) and made 79 organs. It has become increasingly clear that there is a huge lack of information about our organ builders and the instruments they built in Transylvania. With my work, I would like to join the ranks of those who have undertaken the task of uncovering this extremely incomplete segment of our history at the archival level. However, I am not specifically researching the organ history of a particular religious denomination, but rather, unusually, I am focusing on the lives and work of two organ builders in particular. Ignácz Takácsy (1830-1906) and his pupil István Vass (1852-1921) were two of the most important organ builders in Târgu Mureș and its surroundings in the second half of the 19th century. I am trying to reconstruct their biographies on the basis of the archival sources available, so my work is primary research. Similarly, I am trying to learn the history of the new organs they built (about 95) and the numerous repairs and modifications they made. In this way, I will know the antecedents, the processes and the fate of the organs for more than a hundred years. Hopefully, my thesis will not only be a tribute to these two great masters, but also to our faithful ancestors, whose main desire and intention was to praise God with the sound of the organ. In this study, I would like to illustrate the history of an organ built in a very special place in my research, which is the 60th work of Ignácz Takácsy. This instrument was built in 1890 for the Catholic church of Teiuș in Alba County, one of the oldest in Transylvania.

This chapter begins with an overview of George Everett Adams's and Helen Taft's speeches, which they delivered as Protestants in a country that was increasingly home to a large and growing Catholic minority. It argues that Adams's and Taft's speeches were part of a much larger religious pattern in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In the ongoing currents of anti-Catholicism in U.S. culture, many late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Protestants joined their Catholic compatriots in speaking with nostalgia and admiration about the figures and institutions of Roman Catholic exploration and evangelization. The chapter also describes how men and women celebrated idealized versions of Catholic imperial pasts as the United States grew into a global power. It traces Catholic origin stories that emerged in three different sites and circumstances: the upper Midwest, Southern California, and the U.S. colonial Philippines.

Abstract The sixteenth century proved determinative for the status of the deuterocanonical books in the Roman Catholic Church and in Protestant groups. The century began with the one Western church allowing for the apparently contented ambiguous status of these books that had characterized their Christian reception for the previous fifteen centuries, but midway through this decisive century opposing church bodies settled their opposing views in regard to the books that counted as authoritative Christian Scripture, with Roman Catholics deciding at the Council of Trent—and especially in the reception of this Council—that the deuterocanonical books enjoyed full canonical authority, whereas Protestants dissented from this judgment. Most Protestant groups were willing to acknowledge the spiritual value of the deuterocanonical books—resulting in their inclusion, for instance, in Luther’s German Bible—though they denied them a status equal with the canonical books.

Abstract This chapter surveys popular fiction written about and by Catholics in England and Ireland when the consumption and production of fiction rose dramatically. It selects a range of novels to explore authorial preoccupations in relation to Catholicism. Setting fiction at the time of the early Church or of the Reformation and Elizabethan Settlement enabled English authors to explore the nature of English identity, Church doctrine, and the question of Catholic loyalty to Crown and State. Notably, preoccupations did not include the Irish Catholic migrants. Irish Catholic fiction of the same era sought to counter the ways that Catholics were perceived in Britain and to assert Catholic respectability. Novelists who wrote for the Irish diaspora, however, advocated a more vigorous Catholicism and by the early twentieth century this trend had influenced fiction in Ireland too. By this time Catholic novelists became more focused on Catholicism’s response to the modern world.

In 1934, after several years of struggle, the Orthodox community of Maribor was awarded a lot to construct a new sacral object on General Maister Square (then Yugoslavia Square) in Maribor, at the site of the recently removed monument dedicated to vice-admiral Wilhelm Tegetthoff. The square boasts a rich symbolic history, wherein the very names of the square have clearly indicated the identity of the city through time. The new government sought to modify public space in accordance with the new state – these spaces had to be given not only a Slovenian but also a Yugoslav outlook. The first modi

Even the mere mention of "transplantation of human body parts" is reason enough to deal with this topic for who knows how many times. Quite simply, we need to discuss the topics discussed from time to time !? Let's get down to explaining some of the "hot" life issues that arise in connection with them. To, perhaps, determine ourselves in a different way according to the existing solutions ... to understand what a strong dynamic has gripped the world we live in, colored our attitudes with a different color, influenced our thoughts about life, its values, altruism, selflessness, charities. the d

THE SEVEN APOSTLES OF THE SLAVS AND THE FORMATION OF THE BULGARIAN “PROTO-NATIONAL” IDENTITY (Summary) Some historians assume that the emergence of national identities in Europe is a result of social changes occurring in the Early Modern era, while others claim that this process was set in motion already in the Later Middle Ages. Similar disputes on the beginnings of the modern Bulgarian nation are also present in historiographic works. The Slavo-Bulgarian History of Paisiy Hilendarski is usually presented as the first clear sign of the emerging Bulgarian nation. The aim of this article is to

Résumé :
The religious landscape of the 21st century is experiencing a set of unique historical circumstances that have shifted attitudes toward the role of religion in society. With the contemporary amplification of the secular worldview in mainstream Western culture, the Roman Catholic Church, in particular, is witnessing a decline of its faithful followers, more so with its younger generation straying further away from the Christian compass. However, there is an interesting dichotomy that this research considers. That is the resurgence of lay ecclesial ministries and communities within the Catholic
