Bailey, Lesley Anne. « From anorexia to celebration : sickness and healing in the parish church and the community of Moreton ». Thesis, University of Birmingham, 2013. http://etheses.bham.ac.uk//id/eprint/4685/.

Résumé :
Using a collaborative action research methodology and a liberation theology approach, the thesis draws on the psychology of anorexia, the insights of Isaiah 58:1-12 and its socio-religious setting, the contextual setting of the Parish Church and the community of Moreton, to develop new insights into the breakdown and restoration of community. It devises what it terms “diagnostic theology” to aid in the understanding of complex forces acting on communities and individuals. Developing from a grassroots exegesis, the signs and symptoms of both breakdown and restoration are clearly delineated, always with a view to celebration, in the knowledge that full restoration can never be achieved. It is posited both that this work will be of value to other communities of faith, and that the methodology can be applied in other situations.

Brandt, Newton. « An analysis of the interpretation and celebration of the three pilgrimage festivals in Messianic Jewry and their impact on Christian practice ». Thesis, 1999. http://hdl.handle.net/10413/5752.

Résumé :
The Christian canon comprises of sixty six book. Of these the majority, thirty nine to be precise, stem from the Jewish religion. These books, comprising the Hebrew Bible direct or guide the adherents of Judaism till today. Christians consider the Hebrew Bible as the Old Testament in the light of a new revelation in Jesus Christ. This thesis questions the last premise, firstly in the light that Messianic Jews or present day Jewish Christians, also still adhere to their heritage as stemming from the Old Testament. Secondly, it should be noted that due to missionary influence both the Old Testament (Hebrew) culture and African culture were discarded. In the light of so many correlations between the Old Testament values and culture and African values and culture I set out to trace whether there is more to the Old Testament than the deductions we, Africans, have inherited from the Western minds down the centuries, as we in the process could have tapped into their (unconscious?) anti-Jewish motivations. As a start in this wide field, I focus on the three pilgrimage festivals, Passover, the Feast of Weeks and the Feast of Tabernacles, prescribed in the Old Testament. I go back in history, through the eyes of Messianic Jews, to learn about the celebrations and interpretations that surround these festivals. Once I have gained that insight I contrast it with the general Christian interpretations and celebrations and where there is room for implementation of Messianic Jewish insight I put these forward towards liturgical enrichment and worship enhancement in the Lutheran Church.

The present research in theology concerning the Roman ritual of the exequial celebration, carried out by the Portuguese Episcopal Conference, is presented as a relational study of both liturgy and escathology. The aim of the study is to orient christian hope towards a new vision of the exequial celebration. On one hand, the ‘exequial’ pertains the accompanying of a defunct by the community, in a kind of exodus path into the promise land, the new Jerusalem. On the other, the ‘exequial celebration’ honors the journey of the departing pilgrim. In other words, it is the process of solemnization not only of material life but also of the new life in Christ. For this reason, the exequial celebration is grounded on the paschal mystery. It is the divine promise come true in face of death, the gift of the resurrection. Hence, the departed is not forgotten, nor given onto loneliness and delivered to death. Memory of him is made, he becomes present in our life.
