Résumé :

As the Kalmar Union came to an end in 1523 the balance of control and power shifted in Scandinavia. Due to the tyranny of Christian II, Sweden rebelled and broke away under the leadership of Gustav Vasa while Norway remained in union with Denmark. Although Danes and Norwegians shared common traits and identifiers; including religion, language and cultural aspects, they had a stronger sense of identity to their own country rather to the union. Because of their political and economic influence in Norway prior to 1523, Danish nobles had increased Norwegian's sense of being Norwegians rather then Danish. Frederik I, who ruled from 1523 to 1533, did all in his power to increase his own and Denmark's control of Norway in this period. In clear violation of his Norwegian Coronation Charter of 1524, Frederik placed prominent Danish nobles in central political and military positions in Norway. Frederik also by-passed the Norwegian National Council in many matters that rightfully should have been handled by the council rather then the King. After Frederik I's death in 1533 the Danish-Norwegian throne remained vacant until 1536. Within this interregnum a civil war broke out in Denmark, followed by the Count's War, instigated by the Hanseatic town of Lübeck, which sought to place Christian II back on the throne. This war, which ended in 1536, brought an end to Lübeck’s Baltic dominion and placed Christian III, son of Frederik I, as king of Denmark-Norway. Once in power, Christian III obliterated the Norwegian Council, thus removing Norway's political influence in the union permanently. Although Sweden officially broke away, it maintained a diplomatic relations with Denmark-Norway. In fact, Gustav Vasa made efforts to strengthen their diplomatic during Frederik I's reign. The outbreak of the Count's War in 1534 rallied the former members of the Kalmar Union to cooperate militarily. Together they defeated Lübeck and secured a peaceful relationship between Sweden and Denmark-Norway which lasted until 1563.

Maurice (1805-1872), pastore anglicano, prima professore di letteratura inglese e storia presso il King's College di Londra e poi di filosofia morale e teologia presso l'Università di Cambridge, e si focalizza in particolare sui concetti di conscience e social order, nuclei speculativi in cui convergono i molteplici interessi di questo Autore. Dopo aver presentato una ricostruzione dei suoi anni di formazione, la ricerca considera i primi scritti di Maurice, di carattere etico e antropologico, dai quali emerge una decisa critica sia al soggettivismo razionalista, sia allo scetticismo empirista dell'epoca, e una riproposta dell'oggettività dell'esperienza e della conoscenza morali. Affrontando poi i suoi scritti di carattere socio-politico e di argomento religioso, si analizzano i fondamenti del vivere associato e il modello educativo proposto da Maurice, insieme ai suoi saggi su problemi storici e politici del tempo e alla polemica di argomento gnoseologico e teologico che lo ha opposto a Henry Mansel, a riguardo delle capacità e dei limiti della conoscenza umana. La ricerca considera infine il tema della coscienza collocando la trattazione mauriciana in materia di ontologia, antropologia, gnoseologia ed etica sociale.
This thesis is a study and critical analysis of the philosophical work of F. D. Maurice (1805-1872), Anglican priest, first professor of English literature and history at King's College, London, and later professor of morals and theology at Cambridge University. The thesis focuses on Maurice's ideas of conscience and social order, topics which uniquely characterise and best exemplify the divergent and speculative aspects of his thought. After reconstructing Maurice's education, the thesis considers his first writings about ethics and anthropology: these are characterized by a strong critique of both rationalistic subjectivism and the moral scepticism typical of empiricism. As a response Maurice stressed the objectivity of experience and consequent possibility of a genuinely moral knowledge. Then, considering Maurice's political and social works, the research presents an analysis of the basis of human social life, the pedagogic model proposed by the author, and his essays about the mid 19th century historical and political situation. In the same section, as a means of further elucidation, the thesis evaluates Maurice's debate with Henry Mansel about the capacity and the limits of human knowledge. The present study, finally, considers the topic of conscience, placing his thought within the fields of ontology, anthropology, knowledge, and social ethics.

Résumé :

In the past, research has been done on suicide as a phenomenon. This focus has been changed over the years to support the people that have been left behind after the suicide has been committed. This study’s aim is to examine the way in which cognitive restructuring can be of use in pastoral care to help a person whose spouse has committed suicide to work through her grieving process. In the exegetical study, the author has used Ecclesiastes 7:1-14 and Psalm 94 in the Old Testament, as well as Romans 12:1-2 and 1 Peter 1:13-15 in the New Testament to form the basis theory of cognitive restructuring. Ecclesiastes 7:1-14 motivates believers to live through their sorrows by not denying their emotional pain. The poet of Psalm 94 finds himself in circumstances in which he could easily believe that God has forsaken him. He argues that God is his shelter, no matter what the circumstances are. Paul calls upon the believers in Romans 12:1-2 to offer, by the mercy of God, their lives to him. They have to let God transform their minds. Peter says in 1 Peter 1:13-15 that the believer must be holy, for God is holy. Because God has implanted holiness in believers, they have to strive to be holy. In an attempt to broaden the basis theory, the author had to use the theological basis theory by examining popular theological pastoral studies. The grieving process plays a major role in the pastoral practice. It has been clear to the author that this grieving process is influenced by negative thoughts, choices and lies that have been believed to be the truth, as well as by the truth itself. As far as the metatheory is concerned, the focus has been on the contribution made by disciplines outside theology. At first, psychology is discussed briefly to determine where cognitive restructuring is situated in the broader picture of psychology and psychiatry. This is also used to argue the choice of using cognitive restructuring after a spouse’s suicide. Cognitive restructuring as a psychological approach has been discussed, as well as the physiological processing of information in the recalling of this information. The phenomenon of suicide, as well as the influence of suicide on the spouse, has been discussed. The author has found that schemes, perception and intuitive thinking have been influenced by the reaction of the community, the stigma surrounding suicide and the spouse’s own schemes, perceptions and intuitive thinking, and that these all play a role in the grieving process of the spouse. Cognitive restructuring argues against the spouse’s schemes, perceptions and intuitive thinking. The researcher has used six persons who have survived the suicide of their spouses as participants in an empirical research to verify, confirm and broaden the abovementioned theories. It has been determined that schemes, perceptions and intuitive thinking are present and influence the grieving process of the spouse. In cases where cognitive restructuring has been used, the grieving process of the spouse followed naturally and healing was attained. Following the above research, the researcher has developed a practice theory of cognitive restructuring after a spouse’s suicide.

The South African pharmaceutical market is seen as part of the so called "pharmerging" markets, together with countries like India, China and Brazil. These "pharmerging" markets are the fastest growing markets within the global pharmaceutical industry. The distribution of chronic medicine in South Africa is a growing market, as the disease burden in South Africa continues to escalate, with the incidence of chronic conditions growing at a rapid rate. The study will focus on one of South Africa’s pioneer courier medication service providers, with more than twenty years’ experience in the healthcare industry. The company will be referred to as Pharmacy X. The mission of Pharmacy X is to provide the right chronic medication, to the right patient, at the right place, at the right time. It is imperative to ensure that a patient receives his/her chronic medication on the scheduled date of delivery to ensure compliance and customer satisfaction. To achieve a competitive advantage, companies increasingly depend on their supply chain partners to minimize cost and improve business processes. The core value chain activity of outbound logistics has been outsourced by Pharmacy X to several courier companies. This study will aim to understand the importance of the outbound logistics function within the value chain of the company and the costs involved with the outsourcing of the function. The primary objective of this study was to determine the feasibility of an in-house courier operation in the Bloemfontein area versus the current outsourced courier model. In order to achieve the primary objective of the study, several secondary objectives were set and reached throughout the four chapters of this study. The study applied cost benefit analysis techniques to determine the feasibility of the Bloemfontein courier investment project. All the cost benefit analysis techniques concluded that the Bloemfontein courier investment will be a financial viable operation. The Bloemfontein courier investment will increase shareholder value over the period of the project compared to the current outsourced model. The contribution of this case study to determine the feasibility of a courier operation investment can be of value to Pharmacy X. The current projected total courier cost of Pharmacy X for the 2013 financial year amounts to more than a third of the total operational cost. The findings within the case study can lead to a greater national roll out of courier operations in order to reduce costs and increase profit margins for Pharmacy X.

This present body of work aims to investigate the presence and the contribute of the woman figure to the design evolution of the domestic space, namely of the kitchen, having a particular focus on the national context. In order to fulfill this objective, the present investigation is divided in four main chapters that are complementary to one another. To start off, an historical contextualization of the women's character, and the way that she is perceived and treated by society, is necessary addressing subjects as the feminist movement and the portuguese Estado Novo regime. Then, we move on to a brief analysis and contextualization od the dwelling as a whole, paying special atention to the issues regarding the private life and the developing of the portuguese house. Next, on the third chapter, we investigate the international kitchen of the end of the 19th century and beggining of the 20th, highlighting three different female figures, that have revolutionized the domestic economy and the living space, with their studies and proposals. Finally, on the forth and final chapter, the portuguese kitchen is studied mainly through newspapers, magazines and some manuals regarding the domestic economy. A small chapter is dedicated to the only portuguese woman that can be considered a pioneer in the domestic realm. More than an investigation, the present work is intended to be a set up of various facts and historical documents, between the 19th century and the 1970's, pertaining the importance of said women and of their contribute to the evolution of kitchen design into what we know and use today
