Résumé :
Cloning is a new phenomenon. As a new phenomenon, it always causes controversy. The controversy does not only occur amang moralists (either islam, jewish, Christianity, or other religion in the world). For scientists, the success of clonig is the achievement of scientific development. While for moralists and religionists and religionists, the success of cloning is a dangerous phenomenon for people in the future thus, moral principles, humanity, honesty, and course, religious law and social ethics must constantly bicom basic consideration in responding cloning phenomenon, in order not to neglec

Résumé :
Carson Strong argues, in “Cloning and Infertility,” that if cloning of humans by somatic cell nuclear transfer were to become a safe procedure, then infertile couples should have access to it as a last resort. He lists six reasons such couples might desire genetically related children. Of these, two are relevant to justifying their access to cloning—namely, that they want to jointly participate in the creation of a person, and that having a genetically related child would constitute an affirmation of their mutual love. According to Strong, these reasons justify at least some infertile couples'

Résumé :
We propose a scheme for implementing a general quantum cloning machine with distant qubits. By regulating some times and phases, we can easily realize almost all kinds of quantum cloning machines (optimal phase-covariant cloning, optimal universal quantum cloning, optimal economical phase-covariant cloning and optimal real state cloning). The quantum cloning machine may have important applications in quantum cryptography for quantum network.

In this article, I inquire into ethical problems in cloning through somatic cell transfer. Cloning is divided into two ; animal cloning and human cloning. Animal cloning, combined with genetics, is useful in producing transgenic food or remedying human diseases. It can exert a negative influence upon ecological system. For it can destroy genetic diversity in nature and bring a new species into nature. However, this is a practical objection. Ethical objections to animal cloning are grounded on animal rights and the order of nature. That is, animal cloning violates animal rights to life and is c

The review is devoted to the current biomedical direction in cell-replacement therapy - therapeutic cloning, which is the most universal approach for obtaining patient-specific embryonic stem cell lines (hESC) with tremendous potential in maintaining and restoring human health. Now the main sources of stem cells directly for biomedical work are stem cells from umbilical cord blood and adult stem cells. Both sources have serious limitations: umbilical cord blood stem cells are autogenous only to the newly born, and receiving stem cells from the patient himself is unsafe for him. In addition, i

The no-cloning theorem is one of the fundamental concepts of quantum information theory. It tells us that no general quantum state can be perfectly replicated. In this thesis we introduce the notion of imperfect cloning, and define the properties of the universal cloning machine. Furthermore, we construct an ansatz of how our universal cloning machine should perform as to produce two imperfect clones from one input qubit. We find an optimal fidelity of 5/6 for our universal cloning machine. We then reevaluate our ansatz and construct a class of unitary transformations such that an optimal fide

Virtual environments allow human beings to be represented by virtual humans or avatars. Users can share a sense of virtual presence is the avatar looks like the real human it represents. This classically involves turning the avatar into a clone with the real human's appearance and voice. However, the possibility of cloning the gesture expressivity of a real person has received little attention so far. Gesture expressivity combines the style and mood of a person. Expressivity parameters have been defined in earlier works for animating embodied conversational agents. In this work, we focus on exp

Genetic engineering of microbes has developed rapidly along with our ability to synthesize DNA de novo. Yet, even with decreasing DNA synthesis costs there remains a need for inexpensive, rapid and reliable methods for assembling synthetic DNA into larger constructs or combinatorial libraries. While technological advances have resulted in powerful techniques for in vitro and in vivo assembly of DNA, each suffers inherent disadvantages. Here, an ex vivo DNA cloning suite using crude cellular lysates derived from E. coli is demonstrated to amplify and assemble DNA containing small sequence homol

Within many communities and religions, including the LDS community, there is some controversy surrounding the use of stem cells – particularly embryonic stem cells (ESC). Much of this controversy arises from confusion and misconceptions about what stem cells actually are, where they come from , and when life begins. The theology of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has interesting implications for the last of these considerations, and it becomes less a question of “when does life begin” and more an exploration of “when does personhood begin” or “when does the spirit enter the bo

Résumé :
A group of Escherichia coli clones harbouring recombinant pBR322 plasmid, containing Cellulomonas fimi DNA inserts, that reacted with antiserum to C.fimi culture supernatant, was screened for their ability to hydrolyze carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and 4-methylumbeliferyll-β-D-cellobioside (MUC). A clone, pEC62, hydrolyzed MUC but did not hydrolyze CMC. The recombinant enzyme encoded by pEC62 was shown to be a β-glucosidase (cellobiase). C.fimii itself was shown to encode an extracellular β-glucosidase in C.fimi. This is the first report of an extracellular β-glucosidase from a bacterium. Del
