The article is devoted to the methodological problem of the interaction of individual and collective in the phenomenon of historical memory. The identification of specific features of collective memory, the nature and dynamics of collective memories allows, on the one hand, to conceptualize collective memory, to substantiate its ontological status, on the other, to reveal the features of the mechanisms of collective memories. The article analyzes such features of collective memory as conventionality, tradition, repeatability, selectivity, etc. The thesis about the ambivalent nature of collective historical memory as a process is defended.

At the end of the twentieth century, questions of a secondary nature suddenly became topical: what do we remember and who owns the memory? Memory as one of the mental characteristics of an individual’s activity is complemented by the concept of collective memory, which requires a different method of analysis than the activity of a separate individual. In the 1970s, a situation arose that gave rise to the so-called "historical politics" or "memory politics." If philosophical studies of memory problems of the 30’s and 40’s of the twentieth century were focused mainly on the peculiarities of perception of the past in the individual and collective consciousness and did not go beyond scientific discussions, then half a century later the situation has changed dramatically. The problem of memory has found its political sound: historians and sociologists, politicians and representatives of the media have entered the discourse on memory. Modern society, including all social, ethnic and family groups, has undergone a profound change in the traditional attitude towards the past, which has been associated with changes in the structure of government. In connection with the discrediting of the Soviet Union, the rapid decline of the Communist Party and its ideology, there was a collapse of Marxism, which provided for a certain model of time and history. The end of the revolutionary idea, a powerful vector that indicated the direction of historical time into the future, inevitably led to a rapid change in perception of the past. Three models of the future, which, according to Pierre Nora, defined the face of the past (the future as a restoration of the past, the future as progress and the future as a revolution) that existed until recently, have now lost their relevance. Today, absolute uncertainty hangs over the future. The inability to predict the future poses certain challenges to the present. The end of any teleology of history imposes on the present a debt of memory. Features of the life of memory, the specifics of its state and functioning directly affect the state of identity, both personal and collective. Distortion of memory, its incorrect work, and its ideological manipulation can give rise to an identity crisis. The memorial phenomenon is a certain political resource in a situation of severe socio-political breaks and changes. In the conditions of the economic crisis and in the absence of a real and clear program for future development, the state often seeks to turn memory into the main element of national consolidation.

Through the lens of Michel Foucault’s theory on popular memory, the study highlights the tensions between official narratives and revisionist perspectives. The analysis reveals how national patriotism and historical revisionism shape collective memory, questioning the ownership of historical truth. The Enola Gay controversy exemplifies the ongoing debate over historical representation, public history, and the ethical implications of wartime actions. By revisiting this controversy, the paper aims to provide a nuanced understanding of how history is constructed and contested, emphasizing the importance of inclusive and critical engagement with historical events.

Résumé :

The authors carried out an analysis of semantic constructions about the role of Sevastopol in the Great Patriotic War. The basic question of the study is to assess the risks and opportunities of countering the technologies of information and cognitive wars, the scenarios of which involve the formation of lines of "civilizational faults" that destabilize social processes with the reformatting of history. The relevance of this research is connected with the definition of mechanisms for creating new historical and media meanings in the conditions of hybrid confrontation and modeling different variants of the development of historical events with changes in the historical and political maps of the world. First of all, this process concerns assessments of the Great Patriotic War and Victory as a historical and geopolitical achievement of Russia. The scientific novelty of the study consists in considering the collective memory of the Great Patriotic War as a network in the understanding of actor-network theory. It was revealed that the historical collective memory is filled with new symbols and signs, turning into an unstructured stream. Social actions that determine historical attitudes are being reinterpreted, a new symbolism becoming a new sociality with the broadcast of "victory" and the rejection of social and geopolitical achievements in the Great Patriotic War of the Russian people and the Soviet state. The current state of historical collective memory is filled with traces formed by both a fundamental event – the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, and events of a political and social nature. Consideration of the collective memory of the Great Patriotic War as a network in the understanding of the actor-network theory allowed us to identify signs of information campaigns aimed at discrediting the role of the Soviet Union and transforming the Victory Day through the formation of an "import" information agenda.

This article highlights a view of collective memory that explains its connection, on the one hand, to individual memory, and on the other, to history. It is noted that the role of both individual and collective memory is not only cognitive, but also normative. That is, memory, in addition to transferring information from the past to the present, also transfers responsibility. Collective memory makes claims about the past because it has a cognitive aspect. These claims can be either confirmed or refuted by relevant historical research (studies). However, this does not mean that collective memory is only a bad story. This is probably the story written by the first person, and its role is to inform the current generation about its responsibility to the past. The aim of the present paper is to study the role that lived and historical memories havein the conformation of collective memory through the participant’s appraisals in the recent past of Argentina. These memories operate as sources that nurture collective memory. Lived memories are related to live experiences, while historical memories are related to indirect sources that inform about the past. 60 participants, divided in two groups (above and below 46 years of age) appraised the present and recent past, based on lived and historical memories. Results show that lived or autobiographical and historical memories contribute differently to collective memory.
Se estudia el rol que desempeñan los recuerdos vividos e históricos en la memoria colectiva por medio de la valoración del pasado reciente argentino. Estos recuerdos operan como fuentes que nutren a la memoria colectiva. Los recuerdos vividos están vinculados a la experiencia directa, mientras que los recuerdos históricos a las fuentes indirectas que informan sobre el pasado. 60 participantes, divididos en dos grupos (mayores y menores de 46 años), realizaron valoraciones sobre el presente y el pasado reciente, en base a recuerdos vividos y en recuerdos históricos. Los resultados muestran que los recuerdos vividos o autobiográficos tienen una incidencia distinta en las valoraciones que los recuerdos históricos.

How, if at all, should we remember the histories of injustice and atrocity that haunt most modern states? Since World War II, it has become commonplace to suggest that properly responding to injustices requires societies to remember them, and to remember the experiences of those they touched. But what specific value might memory in this sense constitute in or contribute to the lives and societies of those coping with troubled history? This question raises two issues. The first is ontological: what does it mean to say that a society should remember in the first place? Is it to say that the individuals who make up society should each privately remember, or is to say that the society as a whole should somehow create or maintain a collective memory that is not reducible to the sum of individual cognitive processes? The second issue is normative: what exactly can memory so conceived do to ameliorate the undesirable legacies that historical injustices leaves on the world? How might remembering help us to move forward, or help us to lessen the pains we can’t leave behind? This study takes on both of these issues. On the first, I suggest that when we speak of societies remembering, we’re speaking of irreducibly social processes, by which individual memories are translated into publicly available traces of the past, which can then inform recollection by others, perhaps at some distance from the original event. On the second, I suggest that this sort of remembering can be valuable in the wake of injustice as a way of combating the legacies of persistent harm and exclusion that sometimes follow victims long after an injustice is over, and challenge their abilities to stand, participate, and identify as full members of the political community. Memory in this sense is crucial for re-negotiating the boundaries of membership, and for rebuilding a more inclusive public world.

After World War II, every country that had been touched by or involved in the war had to come to terms with its past. In the case of Switzerland, the Swiss government, the army and some of the country’s leadership established a strong official historical memory of the war, portraying Switzerland as a neutral, benevolent and well-fortified country that remained innocent and untouched by the war. From the 1960s onwards, Swiss artists and intellectuals challenged these myths by presenting alternative views of the Swiss past in their work. Beginning in the 1970s, Swiss historians published an increasing amount of scholarly research concerning Switzerland’s World War II past, and challenging the official historical memory promoted by the government. In the 1990s, after the discovery of thousands of dormant Swiss bank accounts containing Holocaust assets, Switzerland was forced to adopt a more realistic memory of its involvement in World War II. An Independent Commission of Experts, established by the Swiss government, conducted thorough research about Switzerland’s wartime involvement and published its Final Report in 2002.

This study traces the current status of Spanish ethics as seen through the optics of historical memory. Starting from the Spanish Civil War in 1936, the thesis relates contemporary themes to their proposed origin throughout three additional distinctive eras of the 20th and 21st century in Spain: 1982-1996 (Socialist Spain), 1997-2010 (Post-modern Spain), and 2011-present (current Spain). Spanish narratives ranging from Los Abel by Matute, La magnitud de la tragedia by Monzó, "Fidelidad" of Ha dejado de llover by Barba and Las fosas de Franco by Silva are contextualized through their ethical architecture, in accordance with their socio-political context, and relationship to past historical traumas. This work proposes that the themes of anticlericalism, the pursuit of social equality, anti bureaucracy, and political distrust are trends culminating from Kohlberg's third level of morality. The thesis aims to be an exposition and legitimization of different ethical schemas that might otherwise be polarized as wrong and inferior by others.

We analyze the memory of collective events in Peru and its relationship with Peruviannational identity in a middle-class sample from Lima (N = 81). Peruvian collective self- esteem and two dimensions of the Peruvian self-concept (Peruvians as proactive-capable and negative image of Peruvians) are related moderately to valence of historic characters remembered. Nevertheless, valence of remembered historical events was not associated to Peruvian national identity. Results also suggest that characters and events from 20th century comprise the majority of remembered instances, and 20th century instances are worse evaluated than characters and events from previous periods of Peruvian history. Results confirm a recency bias and a tendency to make more positive meaning attributions to distant eventsand characters than those made to more recent events.
Se analizan las relaciones entre la memoria de hechos colectivos en el Perú y la constitución de la identidad nacional peruana en 81 habitantes de clase media de Lima Metropolitana. La valencia positiva del recuerdo colectivo de personajes históricos, más no el de eventos, se asocia moderadamente a la autoestima colectiva y a dos dimensiones del autoconcepto colectivo (peruanos proactivos-capaces e imagen negativa de los peruanos). Se encontró que personajes y eventos del siglo XX conforman el porcentaje mayoritario de recuerdos colectivos, y en promedio personajes y eventos del siglo XX son peor evaluados que personajes y eventos previos a este siglo. Esto confirma la presencia de un sesgo de recencia y la tendencia a atribuir un significado más positivo a personajes y hechos que se recuerdan a largo plazo en contraposición con aquellos más recientes.

Never before has it been so important to investigate the way in which televised historical drama recreates and represents the past, for, as Robert Rosenstone (2003) acknowledges, “the increasing presence of the visual media in modern culture and the vast increase in TV channels seems to ensure that most people now get their knowledge of the past, once school is over, from the visual media” (p. 10). Therefore, this research uses the popular PBS Masterpiece Theatre program Downton Abbey as a case study to examine the accuracy of depictions of historical periods in contemporary television programs with the intent of discovering the impact of historical fiction on audiences’ perceptions of the past and, subsequently, on the collective memory of the public domain. Using a reception analysis approach, this research considers both producer-encoded and audience-decoded content within the four categories of (I) Setting, Details, and Design; (II) History; (III) Behavior; and (IV) Agenda, Values, and Effects outlined by Paul B. Weinstein (2001) to form conclusions concerning the relationship between the encoding and decoding of Downton Abbey, in particular, as well as the larger implications these findings have for televised historical drama and society’s collective memory, in general. Ultimately, this essay argues that through its precision of post-Edwardian detail, Downton Abbey attempts to construct a veil of accuracy behind which the series’ narrative is theoretically able to operate freely and without rigid constraint by history’s “hard and fast rules” (Fellowes, 2012a, p. 60). The findings also reveal an incongruity between this philosophy of encoding and the subsequent decoding process of Downton Abbey’s audience members. Finally, this study offers two potential functions historical drama may serve in contemporary society: as either a catalyst for historical inquiry or as a purveyor of distinctly modern, as opposed to historical, lessons

Relations between China and Japan suffer under the "history issue", an inability to reconcile these nations' relative perspectives on past wartime events. With emphasis on China's construction of the history issue, this thesis analyzes when and why China calls particular attention to Japan's past aggression and the degree to which China's actions have impacted bilateral relations from 1972 to 2016. Using elements from collective memory, national identity, and balance of power theories, this thesis makes four main arguments. First, provocative Japanese behavior revives the collective memories of past trauma and provokes criticism of Japanese politics. Second, when China perceives threats from Japan, it highlights Japan's past atrocities and lack of contrition to contain Japan's ambitions or gain relative power. Third, when collective memory is the main driver in shaping relations, balance of power plays a more supporting role and vice versa. Last, the public's collective memory and the volatile activation of the public's genuine anti-Japanese sentiments were the strongest factors in explaining the downturn of relations. As the United States implements its security strategy in East Asia, understanding historical disputes and their implications on the security status of the region is crucial, as they will affect agreements with our allies.

As the Second World War in Europe came to an end the Russians advanced from the east towards Berlin. German occupation of Poland and Czechoslovakia had been particularly brutal. Both of these countries, products of German defeat at the end of World War I contained millions of ethnic Germans, who had previously co-existed with their Slav neighbours, often for many centuries, but were now perceived by these neighbours as having encouraged and collaborated with Nazi Germany. Russians, Poles and Czechs now sought revenge triggering the largest forced expulsion in recorded history. Somewhere between 8 and 16.5 million ethnic Germans fled to the west, and between 2 and 3 million perished during flight. Expellee property was subsequently seized by the Poles and Czechs. In broad terms, until the 1990s these events were seen within Germany as part of a submerged collective memory, suppressed in part by their having lost the war. In the last 20 years with an increasingly powerful expellee organisation (the Bund der Vertriebenen, Federation of Expellees) influencing mainstream German politics, academia, and the German media, an attempt has been made to change historical memory, or rewrite what has been referred to as an 'unacceptable past'. This, in recent years has led to claims by former expellees against the Czech Republic, and Poland for restitution. This in itself has led to bitter accusations by these countries that the expellees have rewritten German history portraying themselves as victims of the Second World War. This thesis explores the methods employed by the expellee groups and their supporters in the restructuring of their historical memory by examining literature dating from the 1950s until the present day from primarily German and American sources, as well as German television documentaries from 2000. These sources are considered in relation to how collective and historical memory have evolved into a position that has allowed the expellees to create an 'acceptable past'.

Collective Memory and the Dutch East Indies: Unremembering Loss examines the afterlife of decolonization in the collective memory of the Netherlands. It offers a new perspective on the cultural history of representing the decolonization of the Dutch East Indies, and maps out how a contested collective memory was shaped. Taking a transdisciplinary approach and applying several theoretical frames from literary studies, sociology, cultural anthropology and film theory, the author reveals how mediated memories contributed to a process of what he calls "unremembering." He analyses in detail a broad variety of sources, including novels, films, documentaries, radio interviews, memoirs and historical studies, to reveal how five decades of representing and remembering decolonization fed into an unremembering by which some key notions were silenced or ignored. AbstractThe labor of memory presented in this volume involves marking out and following different, multiple trajectories that we cluster along four broad themes. The first part, the “Politics of Collective Memory,” covers competing or evolving representations of particular events, customs or traditions, and historical personae in official and popular expression as they are shaped by economic, political, and cultural forces. The second part deals with memories of war and peace, examining the transnational conflict and collaboration, the role of political elites and state projects in dealing with the aftermath of military aggression, and most of all the impact and responses of civilians. The third part focuses on the framing of various historical actors and figures by the state and civil societies, which transcend the dichotomy of heroes and victims. The fourth part, “Curating Memory,” looks at the way Indonesian museums and museology after 1998 serve as the sites where new kinds of memory work occur.

This paper examines the limitations of traditional historiography and proposes a novel approach incorporating the existential concept of responsibility into historical understanding and writing. It argues that conventional historicization methods are inadequate, especially when addressing catastrophic events like genocide that transcend mere factuality. These events challenge historians to move beyond passive documentation and engage in responsible historicization. The proposed approach emphasizes the historian's active role in shaping historical narratives, particularly in preserving the memory of silenced voices. By integrating responsibility into historiography, historians can more effectively address the ethical implications of their work, especially in contexts where memory erasure and non-existence are central concerns. This responsible historicization offers a more profound and ethically grounded engagement with history. It acknowledges the historian's duty not only to record facts but also to grapple with the moral dimensions of historical events and their representation. The paper suggests that this approach can lead to a more nuanced understanding of the past, particularly in dealing with traumatic events that challenge traditional historical methodologies. By adopting this framework, historians can contribute more meaningfully to collective memory and the ongoing process of coming to terms with difficult histories.

The paper focuses on the analysis of dramatic texts on historical themes that deal with the so-called founding myths of the Slovak and Serbian people. Mytho-motorics or mythologization represents the creation of myths based on historical facts (with minor or drastic deviations) in order to establish the image that a community has of itself and defining it’s values. It serves to create a fixed image that is transmitted from generation to generation and creates national identity in collective memory. This image is subject to transformation, because it is subject to reexamination in each subsequent generation in accordance with current social needs. On the Slovak side, it is about the memory of the Great Moravian Principality, which is examined by V. Klimáček in the text „Mojmir II or Twilight of the Principality”, and on the Serbian side, it is about the acute problem of Kosovo, presented in the dramas „Was There a Prince’s Dinner?” by V. Ognjenović and „The Battle of Kosovo” by Lj. Simović. In these texts, we follow the development or change of the myth from the initial romantic matrix to the present day and its (mis)alignment with current social needs.

Résumé :

In this paper, I base my work on the theory of cultural memory and the definition of “figures of remembrance”. These are culturally created and socially binding images of remembrance (M. Halbwachs), with the concept of figure being preferred to image because it is required not only for iconic but also for narrative formation (Assmann 2001). The three established aspects of figures of remembrance include the relationship to space and time, the relationship to the group, and the specific process of reconstructivity. If we perceive literature as the (linguistic) objectification of images and memories, we can also identify several symbolic images of collective remembrance in the literature of Vojvodina Slovaks. They are associated with the formation and spread of collective memory and are tied to certain places (lowlands, Dolná zem, Báčka) and time segments – calendar holidays and manifestations, during which past events such as moving, founding a village or building a house are symbolically revived. Through the figures of remembrance, the characteristics of the group, its values and ideals are reproduced, for example, industriousness, cleanliness, but also creativity among Vojvodina Slovaks. The origin and succession of historical duration must also be confirmed (by thematizing ancestors and significant personalities). The last aspect of reconstructivity actually determines what is to be remembered and what is needed, because the process is not so much related to the truthfulness as to the usefulness of memories, it is also socially conditioned (by linguistic and extra-linguistic means). However, most often, reconstructivity is related to the first two aspects of the figures of remembrance. Recently, in Slovak minority culture, "figures of remembrance" have been more intensely present in other arts and media (theater, stage performances, folklore, instinctive art), but it was precisely artistic literature that contributed to their establishment and persistence to a significant extent. We illustrate the aspect of reconstructivity with the national narrative about the migration to the Lower Land.

Résumé :

Some collective efforts to preserve and disseminate Portuguese digital games are led by retro gaming communities and have contributed to the emergence of other narratives about the history of video games in the last decade in Portugal. In this paper, we present two of these communities, namely Planeta Sinclair and RetroArquivo, and examine how their preservation activity can be a way to promote the recognition of the cultural, historical, and material values of old games. We conclude that digital game preservation is mostly contained in an informal and networked infrastructure, within which archival libraries of these same artifacts are developed.

The main objectives of the "ArchiVico Digitale" project are the digitization, cataloging and web publication on an Omeka-based platform of the documentary material preserved in the Historical Archive of Vicopisano (HAV) to facilitate the access to several documents and the exploration of thematic discovery paths linked to local historical memory.The result of the publication of this material on the web is a digital archive collecting and enhancing archival documents to allow scholars and the general public to carry out research. Since the HAV keeps a large number of documents gathered in files, a preliminary selection of two types of documents/files was necessary: those in a poor state of conservation and those of extreme interest which bear witness to relations with the territory and historical dynamics. The proposed approach, implemented in synergy between different public and private subjects, provides the restoration of documents in a poor state of conservation, the digitization and archival description of each selected document, the web publication in a digital archive and the dissemination of the contents of the documents relating to local historical dynamics to students of schools of all levels in educational courses aimed at preserving the collective historical memory. The project, conducted in a three-year period, resulted in 12 thematic paths for a total of 194 documents (765 image files), a total of 6 restored archives (5,130 image files) and a dissemination activity of the thematic itineraries involving a total of over 160 students and over 15 teachers.

The essay aims to analyse historical-critical and typological reading of Cosenza city, by highlighting the rarefied traces of the glorious castle-village that, for centuries, has characterized the historic centre. The historical nucleus analysed has inexorably changed over the centuries: events, earthquakes and wars have written and rewritten its history, restoring it with an almost completely different appearance from its original conformation. In fact, today the city appears with an eighteenth-century face that hides vestiges that are more ancient and a purely medieval layout. Due to these stratifications, remains little of the fortified aspect of the city: the castle, dominating the Pancrazio hill, remains witness of this historical, plant and urban aspect. Instead, the ancient walls, the towers and doors that once made up the castle-village appear totally disappeared. Through the reading of archival documents and documentary sources, as well as urban planning, typological and material aspects, therefore, this essay wants to bring the ancient face of the city back to light and collective memory, reconstructing its fortified system and relocating some important parts, today forgotten or completely disappeared.

Résumé :

The article presents the role of folklore archives in society. It proposes to begin by specifying the premises that preceded the appearance and institutionalization of these settlements in European and national culture. The interest in the knowledge and valorization, first editorially, of the oral tradition manifests itself late, precisely in the XVI century. The first, who turn their attention to the recording and conscious collection of folklore, are the philosophers and literati from the West and Northern European countries. The openings offered by the discovery of the value of popular creation (historical, scientific, artistic) amplifies the interest of researchers on the European continent, and not only, for the collection, research and promotion of folklore, strengthening the conviction that it can serve as a source of knowledge of the past, but also as inspiration that can find its valorization in cult creation. Being aware of the importance of the historical and identity dimension of culture based on oral tradition and of its fragility in the perspective of time, the folklore heritage collection becomes a practical necessity of the XX century, which determined the creation of folklore archives.

This article aims to explore crimes against humanity through a chronological lens, categorizing them into past, present, and future impacts. Firstly, it delves into historical crimes, such as the destruction of cultural heritage and the erasure of the historical origins of peoples, highlighting the long-term effects on collective memory and identity. Secondly, it addresses contemporary crimes, focusing on the persecution of minorities and the systematic violence they face, underscoring the immediate and ongoing violations of human rights. Lastly, it projects into the future, examining crimes that threaten future generations, particularly the destruction of child identities through indoctrination and exploitation, as well as environmental destruction, or ecocide, which imperils the planet’s sustainability. This tripartite framework not only facilitates a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted nature of crimes against humanity but also emphasizes the importance of memory and justice in preventing future atrocities. By analyzing these crimes through their temporal dimensions, the article aims to foster a deeper dialogue on accountability and reconciliation, ensuring that the lessons of the past and present guide us toward a more just and sustainable future.

The article deals with the problem of the meaningfulness (essence) of the worldview journalism in the context of the argumentative resources of the work of influentive authors, for which the missionary role of the word is decisive. The search for meaning has been debated for centuries by orators, philosophers, psychologists, writers, sociologists, historians, journalists, and so on. In addition to other factors, a combination of the principles of worldview journalism and conceptual humanitarianism gives effective results. The author explores the acute problem of the effectiveness of a journalistic text through the prism of knowing the truth, meaning, since this is precisely where the source of wisdom is found; we are talking about spirituality, culture, historical memory. As influental authors proved with their arguments, the collection of facts is not enough, it is important to find the meaning of the existence of the individual, communities, and humanity. A number of examples show how the speakers of worldview journalism use all texts, not only from the archives: we are talking about poetry, art, in general, about literature, which revealed the most truth. Figuratively speaking, it is not only about the world of borders, it is important to consider horizons. Turning information into a commodity, focusing on “seasonal” interest based on the materialism of facts, or the inadequacy of many concepts and categories, the faking of media, relativity, obscurity of texts, anti-culture, in other words, the revolution of nihilism inevitably relativizes the very essence of journalism. If creative life is a manifestation of the freedom of the spirit, based on authentic truth, then we should strive to achieve the “extension of vision”, to master combinatorial (combinative) thinking. The ability to think in this way differs from ordinary logic in which the main universal thing remains in the center of attention, and the personality is not lost in individual details. Consequently, we can build a genealogy of ordered things and concepts, feel their inner relationship. Key words: meaning, worldview, journalism, argument, influence, moral principles, creativity.

Aiming at (re)thinking memory politics in contexts of ongoing total violence against non-white bodies, I propose, in this working paper, to engage with Maria Beatriz Nascimento’s multifaceted notion of quilombo. Once understood as alternative regimes of conviviality that entail existential (beyond material) aspects, Nascimento’s notion of quilombo enables critical access to the onto-epistemological basis on which memory politics generally takes place. After primary considerations about violence and the archives, I highlight three main aspects of Nascimento’s notion of quilombo to (re) think memory politics: (1) the introduction of a temporality that displaces underlying analytical assumptions of a linear, progressive and sequential time; (2) the idea of paz quilombola, which allows analytical space for “opacity” in the generation of knowledge; (3) the link between personal and collective intergenerational memory that, for Nascimento, requires the fostering of spaces of body encounters.
