Résumé :
Recent WHO guidelines for antiretroviral therapy recommend switching to less toxic, but more expensive medicines for first-line and second-line ART, raising questions about the financial sustainability of many AIDS treatment programmes. At the same time, many key generic producing countries such as India now grant pharmaceutical product patents so competition between multiple manufacturers will not be able to play the role it has in bringing down the price of newer drugs. Overcoming these patent barriers will require a range of solutions, such as restricting patentability criteria, or compulso

The Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) and self-consumption frameworks defined in Directive (EU) 2023/2413 and Directive (EU) 2024/1711 are currently being integrated into national regulations across EU member states, adapting legislation to incorporate these new entities. These regulations establish key principles for individual and collective self-consumption, outlining operational rules such as proximity constraints, electricity sharing mechanisms, surplus electricity management, grid tariffs, and various organizational aspects, including asset sizing, licensing, metering, data exchange, a

To accelerate the energy transition, the EU “Clean Energy for all Europeans” package aims to strengthen the involvement of end consumers in the energy market. To this end, together with so-called “active consumers” and provisions for individual and collective renewable energy self-consumption, two types of energy communities were introduced. The EU framework, however, leaves many details of the transposition process to the national level. The corresponding directives were supposed to be transposed by the end of December 2020 (recast Electricity Market Directive, defining active consumers and c

Motivation: The functioning of the audiovisual sector strongly depends on the use of copyrights and related rights. Problems with their clearing could harm the functioning of companies and might even lead to strong financial problems. The distribution of copyright-protected audiovisual works requires the licensing of rights by different rightsholders. Some of them are represented by Copyright Management Organizations (CMOs), which allow users to clear rights for many works without individual negotiations. The recent spate of media leaks has brought tax intermediaries and their role in tax avoidance (and evasion) schemes employed by taxpayers around the world to the forefront of collective consciousness. Hence the prevalent opinion is that there is no ‘tax dodge’ without an intermediary. This makes them a force to be reckoned with in the global tax sphere. It is against this background that this article appraises the role of tax intermediaries from a theoretical and factual perspective as well as providing the framework for their regulation and management in Nigeria, and comparatively assess the

Being involved in a university start-up is like a roller-coaster ride. While university faculty are typically attuned to scientific discovery, successful start-ups require so much more. Intellectual property protection, streamlined licensing, talent recruitment, product definition, customer discovery and scale-up challenges are just a few that highlight the complex landscape of technical and non-technical problems that start-ups have to deal with. Overlaid on that is the constant pressure of fundraising to support a fledgling business, while satisfying the growing and changing demands of spons

This research examines the implementation of Copyright Law for street musicians in Indonesia, focusing on the intersection between legal protection and cultural practices. The phenomenon of street musicians performing cover songs creates tension between the formal legal framework and the tradition of sharing art in Indonesian culture, as seen in the cases of Tri Suaka and Zinidin Zidan. The research aims to analyze the effectiveness of Law Number 28 of 2014 in addressing copyright infringement while considering cultural practices, and to identify socio-cultural factors that influence legal com

This paper examines the property rights of the Cochin estuarine fisheries in India, which in spite of having well-defined access and conservation rules imposed by the state, have failed to ensure proper resource management. Considering the resource characteristics and the causes for state's failure, co-management, which requires a redefinition of management functions by state as well as users, has been proposed as an alternative. Analysis of user characteristics, using the two-stage estimation procedure, throws policy signals that under co-management the state can strengthen the licensing syst
