The exposome concept was defined in 2005 as encompassing all environmental exposures from conception onwards, as a new strategy to evidence environmental disease risk factors. Although very appealing, the exposome concept is challenging in many respects. In terms of assessment, several hundreds of time-varying exposures need to be considered, but increasing the number of exposures assessed should not be done at the cost of increased exposure misclassification. Accurately assessing the exposome currently requires numerous measurements, which rely on different technologies; resulting in an expen

Difficulty in obtaining the correct measurement for an individual’s longterm exposure is a major challenge in epidemiological studies that investigate the association between exposures and health outcomes. Measurement error in an exposure biases the association between the exposure and a disease outcome. Usually, an internal validation study is required to adjust for exposure measurement error; it is challenging if such a study is not available. We propose a general method for adjusting for measurement error where multiple exposures are measured with correlated errors (a multivariate method) a

These events refer to a progression in which a signal generates a subsequent one, correlated in time to the initial detection. The timescale for correlated background ranges from nanoseconds to days. The earliest signal is a prepulse generated by a photon incident on d1. Late pulses relate to the k-to-d1, and k-to-anode transit time. The next category, the afterpulses, spans ~100 ns to 10 μ‎s, with a peaked time distribution. There is a long-lived source of photons, extending to days

Proximal tubular cells reabsorb any filtered proteins during health via cell surface receptors such as megalin and cubulin so that very low levels of protein are present in the excreted urine. Significant proteinuria is a common finding in patients with many renal diseases. Proteinuria is a marker of glomerular damage and podocyte loss and injury in particular. The degree of proteinuria at presentation or during the course of the disease correlates with long-term outcome in many renal diseases. Samples of nanocoatings were also tested by exposing them to an accelerated corrosion cabinet test and to the natural marine environment. Results of laboratory testing and exposure to the natural marine environment are correlated along with supporting evidence of metallographs.

Abstract Often the most severe maritime environmental degradation for ships occurs just above the waterline within the splash zone where periodic wet-dry cycles accelerate corrosion. Similarly, increased corrosion also occurs at coastal areas where nearby wave action generates more sea-spray aerosols. These areas are subjected to typical degradation through atmospheric deposition and stressors such as UV light but also have an increased time of wetness (ToW) and higher chloride deposition rate compared to atmospheric exposure alone. It has been seen previously that elevated ToW and chloride lo

Abstract New methods and materials are constantly being evaluated by the Navy in an effort to provide better corrosion protection to topside equipment from harsh marine environments. The purpose of this investigation is to study several new coating systems using atmospheric exposure field tests, salt fog (American Society Testing and Materials (ASTM) B 117-85 standard) testing, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and shipboard exposure tests. The ultimate goals are to find improved coating systems and techniques to facilitate corrosion control of topside systems. This paper will focus

Abstract The ability of a corrosion detection system to sense corrosion in its earliest stages in aircraft applications is an important indicator of NDE system virtue. Microwave NDE is an emerging technology that uses the interaction between incident microwave radiation and the dielectric materials on the surface of the inspected item, including corrosion products, paints, and appliques, to detect the presence of corrosion. To assess the sensitivity of microwave methods to early corrosion product formation a series of aircraft aluminum plates with varying levels of corrosive exposure were fabr

Abstract As a new corrosion resistant alloy (CRA), high strength 15Cr martensitic stainless steel (0.03C-15Cr-6Ni-2Mo-1Cu) offers an OCTG material for the completion of HTHP deep water wells and large bore gas wells, due to a combination of high specified minimum yield strength (SMYS) of 125 ksi (862 MPa) without cold drawing, good notch toughness, and superior CO2 corrosion resistance. Abstract UNS S20910, also known as XM-19 according to ASTM A276, is an austenitic stainless steel used in several industrial applications including oil and gas, chemical, nuclear and cryogenic industry due to its combination of high strength and excellent corrosion resistance. In solution-annealed condition, UNS S20910 shows strength levels significantly higher than conventional austenitic stainless steels. Strength can be further increased by strain hardening without deteriorating other material properties. UNS S20910 exhibits remarkable corrosion resistance in most industrial environments, h

A large empirical literature has shown that countries that trade more with each other have more correlated business cycles. We show that previous estimates of this relationship are biased upward because they ignore common trade exposure to other countries. When we account for common trade exposure to foreign business cycles, we find that (1) the effect of bilateral trade on business cycle comovement falls by roughly 25 percent and (2) common exposure is a significant driver of business cycle comovement.
