Littering of public areas is a significant problem worldwide. Here we evaluate the success of persuasive and demonstrative messages at reducing littering in highly visited river beaches in Argentina. We made an intervention at the beaches which consisted of a personalized verbal request asking visitors to take their litter to the waste cans (persuasive message) while they were exposed to the example of picking up the litter already left on the beach (demonstrative message). We conducted 102 observations distributed over 29 dates, two years and four beaches. Each observation consisted of three

This study contributes to the research on the development of pragmatic particles from the perspective of the Bantu language Makhuwa. Makhuwa shows synchronic variation in the use of va and vo, which function as locative demonstratives, va (proximal) and vo (medial), but also as pragmatic particles in the left as well as the right periphery, where they draw the attention of the addressee, intensify the illocutionary force and indicate the relationship between speaker and addressee. It is a concept which not only pervades his work in mathematics but is also involved in all situations where conclusions are to be reached and decisions to be made. Rhetorical text description is aimed at exposing the persuasive strategies employed in a text. It entails a description of the selection of topic, but in particular a stylistic analysis. Résumé :
Communication lays the foundation for cooperation in human society and in multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL). Humans also desire to maintain their privacy when communicating with others, yet such privacy concern has not been considered in existing works in MARL. We propose the differentially private multi-agent communication (DPMAC) algorithm, which protects the sensitive information of individual agents by equipping each agent with a local message sender with rigorous (epsilon, delta)-differential privacy (DP) guarantee. In contrast to directly perturbing the messages with predefined D

Résumé :
Commit messages, which summarize the source code changes in natural language, are essential for program comprehension and software evolution understanding. Unfortunately, due to the lack of direct motivation, commit messages are sometimes neglected by developers, making it necessary to automatically generate such messages. State-of-the-art adopts learning based approaches such as neural machine translation models for the commit message generation problem. However, they tend to ignore the code structure information and suffer from the out-of-vocabulary issue. In this paper, we propose CoDiSum t

Vehicular communication allows vehicles to interact with road users, roadside infrastructure, and cloud-connected devices. It holds a crucial position in modern transportation systems, impacting both fundamental and advanced aspects and enhancing traffic safety and efficiency. C-V2X is a wireless communication technology that uses cellular networks to enable communication between vehicles and infrastructure. C-V2X can be used for applications such as collision avoidance, traffic management, and remote vehicle diagnostics. This project conducted a feasibility study on the current position of C-

Résumé :
This presentation discusses the most important findings of the Development Effectiveness Overview (DEO) of 2010. The DEO is a reporting instrument of the Development Effectiveness Framework approved in 2008. The main messages are (i) Demonstrating the effectiveness of our work becomes even more relevant given that today the IDB is a larger and more strategically-focused bank. (ii) Our development effectiveness agenda has produced encouraging results. (iii) The Bank's performance shows an upward trend in becoming a results-based organization, as depicted by indicators across all areas of our wo

Key messages • We found that there are limited studies analysing the effectiveness of e-cigarette cessation interventions in a clinical setting and of those that do exist the sample sizes are small, and the studies are underpowered to make any confident assessment of their effectiveness. • Clinical interventions appropriate for young people included nonpharmacologic interventions such as contingency management and behavioural counselling while NRT may be an effective pharmacologic intervention. • There was limited evidence to demonstrate the effectiveness of behavioural counselling as a stand-

Résumé :
Evacuations are the preferred response to human- or natural-caused disasters. The process often involves people deciding when and how to evacuate based on messages from local authorities. However, diverse opinions of the affected people may influence their decision to evacuate or to stay and see how the situation unfolds. This project applies an opinion dynamics concept to model the opinion and decision-making of people threatened by wildfire. To demonstrate how individual opinions evolve with time, the model applies an agent-based approach that includes the interaction between an agency sendi

Résumé :
This evidence brief draws on anthropological research in Ealing, a borough in Northwest London, to demonstrate how investing in community engagement infrastructure is fundamental to pandemic preparedness. While traditional preparedness often focuses on plans and protocols, the Ealing experience shows that the ability to rapidly mobilise trusted community relationships may be more critical for effective emergency response. Such relationships enable both broad public cooperation with emergency measures and targeted support for diverse groups, including those who are often marginalised or harder

Background Lung cancer is the number one cause of cancer death worldwide.(1) It is the fifth most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia (12,741 cases diagnosed in 2018) and the leading cause of cancer death.(2) The number of years of potential life lost to lung cancer in Australia is estimated to be 58,450, similar to that of colorectal and breast cancer combined.(3) While tobacco control strategies are most effective for disease prevention in the general population, early detection via low dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening in high-risk populations is a viable option for detecting asy
