This thesis describes a method to create local maps from an omni-directional vision system (ODVS) mounted on a mobile robot. Range finding is performed by a structure-from-motion method, which recovers the three-dimensional position of objects in the environment from omni-directional images. This thesis examines the properties of spatial (i.e., locational and directional) Ps within the minimalist framework (Chomsky 1995,1998,1999), which has put an ultimate emphasis on economy in terms of derivation and representation. The principal goals of this thesis are (i) to investigate how the syntax of such nature derives PPs in accordance with the properties of Ps and (ii) to show how the internal PP structure interacts with the external syntax of PP. The structures of gallosilicates TNU-6 and TNU-7 have been solved from powder X-ray diffraction. TNU-6 (P6₃, a = b = 10.5078(1)Å, c = 8.5277(1)Å) is found to possess a stuffed tridymite-like structure isostructural with BaFeGaO₄.
