Résumé :
Objectives: To determine whether unpublished dissertations are an important source of trials for systematic reviews. Methods: In a review of infant massage, we identified 17 dissertations. We recorded whether each dissertation was included in the review and, if so, whether it contributed data to any analyses. Results: Thirteen dissertations were excluded, 11 because of poor reporting of methodology. Three dissertations were also published as journal papers. The data from the remaining dissertation were not included in any analysis. Reviewing data on the Cochrane Library, only one of 878 reviews included data from a dissertation that might have changed a review's conclusions. Conclusions: Searching for and retrieving unpublished dissertations involves considerable time and effort and appears to influence the conclusions of a review only rarely.

Résumé :
Geographic study of hazards has gained considerable prominence in the fifty years since Gilbert White's Human Adjustment to Floods dissertation was published. Over 130 hazards dissertations have been written in the US. and Canada, and hazards articles have gained greater acceptance in major journals. Although White and several of his students served as advisors for nearly a fifth of these dissertations, most hazards dissertations represent efforts by students whose advisors have neither written nor advised a previous hazards dissertation. The majority of hazards dissertation writers obtain employment in positions where they are unable to advise future hazards dissertation writers, thus the production of the next generation of hazards geographers may be in peril.

Résumé :
As a part of their doctoral education, students complete a dissertation. Examining these dissertations can provide one analysis of research in a field. The primary purpose of this study was to analyze all physical education dissertations with a teaching focus that were completed between 1985 and 1999. All possible dissertations were examined through the electronic version of Dissertation Abstracts International. For the teaching dissertations (n = 201), each abstract was coded for (a) research type, (b) research focus, (c) student variable measured, (d) observation used, (e) interview used, (f) other methods used, (g) population, (h) general methodology, and (i) statistics reported/used. Most research on teaching dissertations addressed issues related to teacher effectiveness and focused on motor skill learning and attitude. There was an increase in qualitative methods from those reported in a previous study (Silverman, 1987). While there were methodological advances, many dissertations still used methods that were not informed by the research methods literature.

Résumé :
Planning and implementation of services which shall make the family a part of the process in the construction of pre-school education services which were provided during early childhood that is one of the most critical periods of life are highly important in terms of child’s healthy development. Within this frame, study upon the dissertations about family involvement and family education in pre-school has become necessary. For this purpose, “family involvement” and “family education” indexes in the departments of Pre-school Education, Pre-School Teaching, Child Development and Education; and Primary School which have been carried out in the Institute of Educational Sciences and Institute of Social Sciences at Council of Higher Education Dissertation Centre have been scanned. As a result of this scan, 35 postgraduate dissertations have been found out. These dissertations have been analyzed by content analysis. This content analysis has been carried out according to specific criteria. These criteria include the year in which the dissertation was made; the level, paradigm, research design, target group, group size, data collection tools and the subject of the dissertation. The data obtained from the dissertations which were examined with content analysis were analyzed. 27 of these dissertations are postgraduate dissertations and 8 of them are doctoral dissertations. One of the remarkable findings of the research is that the percentage of the dissertations upon “investigation of the opinions” is 37%. The findings of the research have been discussed within the frame of literature and recommendations have been made for pre-school teachers.

Résumé :
The study of the scientific language and the structural elements of the dissertations is an important aspect in the study of dissertational culture. At the turn of the 19th-20th centuries, unwritten rules were formed for writing the introductory section of dissertations. The authors attempted to identify the process of formulatingacademic conventions. The article provides a comparative analysis of the prefaces to the dissertations on Russian history written by scholars from Moscow and St. Petersburg. The authors make conclusions about specifics of the introductory section of the dissertation in the context of scientific schools, and the presentation features of the individual components of the introduction.

Résumé :
Objective - To investigate the overall prevalence of citations to theses and dissertations, as well as their prevalence in feature articles, editorials, and review articles in top research nursing journals. To evaluate differences between journals and to determine whether there was a change in use over time. Methods - Journals were selected from the Medical Library Association’s Nursing and Allied Health Resource Section’s 2012 Selected List of Nursing Journals. An evaluation was conducted of citations from 3,711 articles published in 2011 and 2018 in 7 top nursing journals. Thesis and dissertation citations were identified and categorized by type of scholarly communication: feature articles, reviews, and editorials. Analysis was conducted for the prevalence of citations for theses and dissertations based on percentage of overall citations and the percentage of articles with a thesis and dissertation citation. Results - Thesis and dissertation citations accounted for 0.41% of all citations. However, 9.43% of the articles contained at least one thesis and dissertation citation. Feature articles contained more thesis and dissertation citations than review articles and editorials. The Journal of Advanced Nursing, Journal of Clinical Nursing, and the Scandinavian Journal of Caring Sciences published a higher percentage of articles with at least one thesis and dissertation citation. Conclusion - The overall use of theses and dissertations in nursing scholarship is comparatively low compared to other forms of scholarly communication. However, this unique form of scholarship viewed from its impact on the percentage of scholarly articles in nursing demonstrates that theses and dissertations have made more of a contribution than previously reported. Our research provides libraries and the nursing academy with empirical evidence for the value of theses and dissertations. It provides librarians and the nursing academy justification for continuing efforts to preserve, enhance access through digital repositories, and to continue to explore strategies to promote the use of theses and dissertations in research.

Résumé :
<strong>BACKGROUND</strong> Increasing attention is being paid to the integrity of scientific research proposals and dissertations in the fields of medicine and other healthcare or allied medicine fields. Therefore, it is vital for researchers, trainee resident doctors, undergraduate and postgraduate students in any healthcare field to be confident that the research methods and outcomes of their proposals and dissertations be trusted, reproducible and transparent. It appears that the number of unpublished output of dissertations is increasing and often constitute gray literature. [1] In one study, the publishing rates of dissertations in general surgery was low, with only 22% being published in Science Citation Index Expanded journals.[2] This may be due to low overall quality of the proposals and dissertations owing to poor preparation. This has led to failure rates in examinations and often led to prolonging the duration of postgraduate studies. Therefore, preparation of proposals and dissertations is often a challenging process that requires considerable effort and time.[3] Proposal and dissertation writing must continue to update and refine their processes in order to protect against examination failures and publication failures. It is of confidence that identifying these well-articulated 40 rules of proposal and dissertation writing will help to cement the easiness of the proposal and dissertation writing processes among undergraduate and postgraduate students. Although these rules are not exhaustive, the available 40 are based on experiences gathered over the years on supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students in proposal and dissertation writing. The rules could be general or specific.

Résumé :
The ability to extract figures and tables from scientific documents can solve key use-cases such as their semantic parsing, summarization, or indexing. Although a few methods have been developed to extract figures and tables from scientific documents, their performance on scanned counterparts is considerably lower than on born-digital ones. To facilitate this, we propose methods to effectively extract figures and tables from Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETDs), that out-perform existing methods by a considerable margin. Our contribution towards this goal is three-fold. (a) We propose a system/model for improving the performance of existing methods on scanned scientific documents for figure and table extraction. (b) We release a new dataset containing 10,182 labelled page-images spanning across 70 scanned ETDs with 3.3k manually annotated bounding boxes for figures and tables. (c) Lastly, we release our entire code and the trained model weights to enable further research (https://github.com/SampannaKahu/deepfigures-open).<br>Master of Science<br>Portable Document Format (PDF) is one of the most popular document formats. However, parsing PDF files is not a trivial task. One use-case of parsing PDF files is the search functionality on websites hosting scholarly documents (i.e., IEEE Xplore, etc.). Having the ability to extract figures and tables from a scholarly document helps this use-case, among others. Methods using deep learning exist which extract figures from scholarly documents. However, a large number of scholarly documents, especially the ones published before the advent of computers, have been scanned from hard paper copies into PDF. In particular, we focus on scanned PDF versions of long documents, such as Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETDs). No experiments have been done yet that evaluate the efficacy of the above-mentioned methods on this scanned corpus. This work explores and attempts to improve the performance of these existing methods on scanned ETDs. A new gold standard dataset is created and released as a part of this work for figure extraction from scanned ETDs. Finally, the entire source code and trained model weights are made open-source to aid further research in this field.

Shier, Lisa Marie. "The power source of very luminous infrared galaxies." Diss., The University of Arizona, 1995. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/187129.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Seven very luminous galaxies were examined to determine the contribution of active nuclei to their luminosity, the nature of their stellar population, and the validity of previous measurements of their H₂ content. Spectra of the 2.3 μm bands of CO were used to measure the stellar velocity dispersion, and hence the mass in the central regions. The bolometric luminosity, ionizing continuum luminosity, CO index, and 2.2 μm luminosity were also determined. Models of young stellar populations were compared to the observed properties of the galaxies. It was found that four of the seven galaxies have properties which are inconsistent with those of stellar populations. The active nuclei of these four galaxies produce more than half the total light of the galaxies, but less than one-third of the 2.2 μm light. The galaxies containing AGN also have young stellar populations. There is no evidence for the existence of active nuclei in the other three galaxies. The stellar populations that dominate the starlight in the galaxies have a wide range of properties. Stellar populations range in age from 10 to 65 Myr. The timescale for star formation ranges from 5 Myr to 100 Myr. The local initial mass function is ruled out for one of the four galaxies for which stellar population analysis could be done. The molecular gas masses for some very luminous galaxies determined from the ¹²CO J = 1 → 0 line are in error. The previously determined molecular gas masses are larger than the dynamical masses. The I(CO)/M(H₂) conversion factor found for Milky Way giant molecular clouds is evidently not correct for some very luminous infrared galaxies.

Lewis, Sylvester. "Dissertation: Sociodemographics and Pancreatic Cancer Survival Rate." ScholarWorks, 2018. https://scholarworks.waldenu.edu/dissertations/5745.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Pancreatic carcinoma or pancreatic cancer (PaCa) is an insidious disease with a prognosis of 6- to 12-month survival time for a late stage diagnosis. This problem has become crucial given that no study to date had been able to establish a definitive association between independent factors (other than a few diseases) and the survival rate of pancreatic cancer. The purpose of this quantitative, cross-sectional study was to determine whether an association exists between the independent, sociodemographic variables (marital status, age, education, income, and employment) and the outcome variable of survival rate. The social cognitive theory was the framework that provided the blueprint throughout the development of this study and helped guide the analysis of the secondary data, which was procured from the surveillance, epidemiology, and end results program. The sample of 56,166 participants was collected from 2009 to 2013 and Cox proportional hazard was used to analyze the data and arrive at the answers to the research hypotheses. A Cox proportional hazard model was used to analyze whether an association existed between each of the independent variables and the outcome variable. The analysis showed significant association between age, education, income, and employment and survival rate. It was not the same for marital status. These findings could stimulate social change by allowing stakeholders and other policy makers to become aware of the role that sociodemographic factors can play in health care. In addition, a need exists for effective research to be undertaken in the prevention and intervention of this disease. This could then lead to private and public health innovations and procedures to benefit patients with PaCa.

Nelli, Debora Kay. "Gender Representations in U.S. Ed.D. Dissertations: A Feminist Content Analysis." PDXScholar, 2014. https://pdxscholar.library.pdx.edu/open_access_etds/1700.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Educational access, achievement and opportunity for students and educators in U.S. educational institutions is influenced and often limited by gender. Although the U.S. Glass Ceiling Commission reports that the gender equity values, beliefs and commitments of institutional leaders are a key factor in reducing institutional gender inequities (U.S. Dept of Labor, 1995), very little is known about the current preparation or evaluation of educational leadership values, especially at the doctoral level (Hess & Kelly, 2007, Grogan & Andrews, 2002; Levine, 2005; Murphy & Vriesenga, 2004). This study utilized feminist content analysis as a conceptual framework and research methodology to examine the collective gender equity values, beliefs and commitments of educational leaders represented in a key textual artifact of doctoral study, the Educational Doctorate (Ed.D.) dissertation. This sequential mixed method content analysis examines 15,014 dissertation titles of Ed.D dissertations completed from 112 U.S. public doctoral granting institutions between 1998-2007 to identify 1185 dissertations indicating gender in their title. A purposeful sample of 177 abstracts was selected from emergent themes for further analysis. The final research phase examined a purposeful sample of 9 complete dissertation texts selected from the analysis of the abstracts. The research focused on two questions, 1.) How prevalent is gender focused inquiry in recent Ed.D. dissertation scholarship, from 1998-2007? 2.) What are the cultural gender beliefs and gender conceptualizations represented in Ed.D. dissertation scholarship from 1998-2007? The findings indicate gender focused inquiry is not prevalent in Ed.D. dissertation titles, in public doctoral granting institutions from 1998-2007; only 7.4 % indicated any mention of gender. The findings also revealed great institutional variation in the prevalence of gender focused dissertations in the 112 institutions examined. Three themes also emerged from patterns of representations illuminating problematic gender cultural beliefs, 1,) male leadership and intellectual authority is privileged, 2.) Black males are "othered", 3.) Latinas are silenced. Three additional problematic themes of gender bias are revealed because of scanty representation in the sample, 1.) LGTBIQ issues silenced, 2.) Title IX trivialized and 3.) Feminism marginalized. Each of these three gender focused categories represented less than 1% of the Ed.D. dissertations completed in U.S. public doctoral granting universities between 1998-2007. The findings have implications for program planning of doctoral Ed. D. programs for the development of gender equity dispositions. The findings also contribute to the discipline by adding to the knowledge of Ed. D. dissertation content. This report includes recommendation for future research and practice.

McLeod, Kim Katris. "Near-infrared properties of quasar and Seyfert host galaxies." Diss., The University of Arizona, 1994. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/186821.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
We present near-infrared images of nearly 100 host galaxies of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN). Our quasar sample is comprised of the 50 quasars from the Palomar Green Bright Quasar Survey with redshifts z ≤ 0.3. We have restricted the redshift range to ensure adequate spatial resolution, galaxy detectability, and minimal distance-dependent effects, while still giving a large sample of objects. For lower-luminosity AGN we have chosen to image the CfA Seyfert sample. This sample is composed of 48 Seyferts, roughly equally divided among types 1, 1.5-1.9, and 2. This sample was spectroscopically selected, and, therefore, is not biased towards Seyferts with significant star formation. Taken together, these samples allow a statistical look at the continuity of host galaxy properties over a factor of 10,000 in nuclear luminosity. We find the near-infrared light to be a good tracer of luminous mass in these galaxies. The Seyferts are found in galaxies of type S0 to Sc. The radio quiet quasars live in similar kinds of galaxies spanning the same range of mass centered around L*. However, for the most luminous quasars, there is a correlation between the minimum host galaxy mass and the luminosity of the active nucleus. Radio-loud quasars are generally found in hosts more massive than an L* galaxy. We also detect a population of low mass host galaxies with very low luminosity Seyfert nuclei. The low luminosity quasars and the Seyferts both tend to lie in host galaxies seen preferentially face-on, which suggests there is a substantial amount of obscuration coplanar with the galaxian disk. The obscuration must be geometrically thick (thickness-to-radius ∼ 1) and must cover a significant fraction of the narrow line region (r >100 pc). We have examined our images for signs of perturbations that could drive fuel toward the galaxy nucleus, but there are none we can identify at a significant level. The critical element for fueling is evidently not reflected clearly in the large scale distribution of luminous mass in the galaxy. We also present an infrared image of the jet of 3C 273 and compare it to optical and radio images from the literature.

Elias, Emmanuel. "Dynamique intracellulaire des protéines nucléolaires." Reims, 2005. http://www.theses.fr/2005REIMM203.

The nucleolus is the site where synthesis and maturation of ribosomal RNAs occur. The tandemly repeated rDNA genes are transcribed by RNA polymerase I associated to several transcription factors. Among them, the Upstream Binding Factor (UBF) is expressed from a unique gene by alternative splicing as two isoforms, UBF1 and UBF2. In order to visualize both variants, which are not discriminated by specific anti-UBF antibodies, we previously developed chimeric proteins between UBF1/UBF2 and GFP. Moreover, it is well-known that inhibition of RNA polymerase I by actinomycin D (AMD) (50 ng/ ml) induces a complex segregation of the nucleolar components as observed on cells fixed. In the present work, we addressed the 3D localisation of nucleolar proteins UBF1, UBF2, PAF53, Topoisomerase I, Fibrillarin, Nucleolin and B23 by confocal microscopy within fixed control KB cells and during the action of AMD. Furthermore, we followed the localisation of UBF1, UBF2 and Fibrillarin within living KB cells during the action of AMD. In order to study the complex 3D trajectories of the components containing GFP-UBF and GFP-fibrillarin during the nucleolar segregation, we used both classical visualization tools using (2D + time) modes and developed tools based on (3D + time) visualization procedure. Under action of AMD, the spots labelled by UBF aggregate and form caps localised at the nucleolar periphery. For fibrillarin, the rings observed in control cells evolved into spots under the treatment. Finally, these spots merged to form caps also localized at the nucleolar periphery. This study revealed a different kind of reorganization for both variants of UBF and Fibrillarin upon treatment

Nous tentons actuellement d’appliquer ce modèle à la poursuite de l’analyse du phénomène de « sauvetage » de souris en cours d’incubation par déplétion neuronale de la Prpc<br>The expression of the PrP protein is necessary for the replication and the propagation of the infectious agent of the prion disease. The human PRNP gene is localized in the HSA20p12/p13 region, wich has been designated as the PRNP locus. It comprises 3 related genes: PRNP, that encodes PrPC, PRND that encodes Doppel and PRNT that encodes a new putative PrP-related testicular protein. We have investigated the structure of this locus in goats and described the occurrence in this species of a Prnt pseudogene. Analysis of this locus expression in developing goat testes and ovaries highlited a sex-dismorphic Prnd expression pattern. In association with the investigation of Doppel cellular and subcellular localization, these data suggest that this protein could be involved in testis differentiation. Several unsuccessful attempts were made to try to establish a cell culture model permissive to BSE replication and propagation, which despite efforts to several laboratories has yet to be obtained. Transgenic mouse models were created for controlling special and temporal expression of the Prnp gene in vivo as a first step towards a better understanding of the implication of specific cell types in TSE diseases and of the PrPc biological fuction. Two complementary approaches were used i) RNA interference and ii) tetracycline inducible promoters. Expression of a Prnp-targeted artificial miRNA allowed the efficient down regulation of PrPc. The level of inhibition achieved could reach 80 % and appeared to be directly related to the miRNA expression level. A bi-transgenic approach was used to assess in vivo the potential control of the expression of a modified Prnp minigene by the TRSID trans-repressor and doxycycline. The results obtained demonstrated that this methodology could lead to an efficient spatial and temporal control of PrPc expression in vivo, opening new opportunities in TSE researches. We are currently applying this system to try to further assess the induced rescue of inoculated mice by neuronal depletion of PrPc

Résumé :
The study aims to examine postgraduate dissertations in the areas of social entrepreneurship, social entrepreneurship in tourism and entrepreneurship in tourism published in Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States through bibliometric analysis. For this purpose, a total of 126 doctoral dissertations published between 2015-2020 were reached through Proquest Dissertations, YÖK National Dissertations Center, EThOS British Library and EBSCO Dissertations databases. The obtained dissertations were discussed in line with parameters of country where the dissertations were prepared, type of the dissertations, publication year of the dissertations, title of the dissertation’s supervisor, university where the dissertations were prepared, field of study of the dissertations, and research method used in the dissertations. In conclusion, it was found that Turkey was behind the United Kingdom and the United States in terms of quantity of doctoral dissertations published about social entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship in tourism. Social entrepreneurship in tourism has been found to be a current issue that needs to be researched and has a large literature gap for all three countries.

Résumé :
Aim/Purpose The purpose of the research was to examine the function and application of delimitations—what the researcher includes and excludes in a study—in the dissertation process. The aim was to map the delimitations process to improve research, rigor and relevance of findings, and doctoral completion rates using a formalized and standardized approach applied flexibly. Background All research is bounded whether formally defined or not. Unlike limitations, which are issues which the researcher addressed after the completion of a study and cannot control, delimitations are what a researcher includes and excludes to make a project manageable and focused on the research question. Yet, there was no research identified which specifically discussed delimitations. Researching the structure and utility of delimitations in educational administration dissertations provided a systematic analysis of the formation of the scope and boundary of research in doctoral studies. Methodology The structure of delimitations in dissertations were examined using descriptive quantitative statistics and a qualitative thematic analysis from 28 universities. The first stage included delimitations from 30 dissertations. Triangulation was conducted using the findings with a training set of delimitations in 15 dissertations with a rubric generated from the primary sample. Contribution The thematic analysis presented a description and interpretation of the nature of delimitations and a systematic framework to improve the research process in dissertations. Mapping the delimitations process gave a detailed portrait of internal and external characteristics which could aid doctoral students in completing the dissertation. Doctoral attrition rates, poorly completed dissertations, and lack of relevance or applicability of results need remedied. Furthermore, the delimitations rubric provided a systematic method to focus communities of learners around a common goal. Findings Findings suggested doctoral students used delimitations haphazardly and lacked a systematic application to research. Three major themes emerged from the delimitations sections: rituals, equifinality, and pragmatism. Topics within delimitations sections centered around two axes: the internal topics of sampling procedures and factors/variables and external topics of research design and conceptual/theoretical framework. Recommendations for Practitioners Poorly understood and developed delimitations negatively impacted findings in dissertations, completion rates, and future research skills of doctoral students. By applying delimitations to a design of research framework in a community of learners, doctoral students and dissertation chairs could improve the dissertation completion process and improve research results using a Delimitations Evaluation Rubric. Recommendations for Researchers Developing a rules-based process with a formalized and standardized process could give researchers a way to evaluate and plan the dissertation process. Developing and applying rubrics to delimitations could serve as a conduit to effective mentoring, feedback, and empowerment. Impact on Society Improving doctoral completion rates in a timely manner would be beneficial to students’ long-term and personal interests. A well-defined delimitations process could improve the dissertation, and strengthened dissertations could add to the research base. Future Research Delimitations are listed in one section, but the scope and boundaries are often fragmented and disjointed throughout a dissertation. By examining complete dissertations for delimitations, there could be further insight. Expanding rubrics as a tool to build a community of learners could develop a holistic approach to doctoral education.

Ali, Azad, Umesh C Varma, and Shardul Pandya. "Qualitative vs Quantitative: The Difference in the Key Sections of Doctoral Dissertations – A Comparative Analysis and a Summary of Findings." In InSITE 2024: Informing Science + IT Education Conferences. Informing Science Institute, 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.28945/5310.

Résumé :
Aim/Purpose. The aim is to conduct a comparative analysis and summarize findings on the difference between the key sections of quantitative doctoral dissertations versus qualitative doctoral dissertations. A summary of the findings will be presented in a tabulated format with bullet points to help clarify the differences between the two approaches. Background. Doctoral students often face challenges in selecting a qualitative or quantitative doctoral approach for writing their dissertation documents. The challenge is usually faced at the outset of the process. Students contemplate which approach and the difference between them. The students also may not know the specific requirements for each section of the dissertation for each approach. Conducting a comparative analysis and providing a tabulated summary of the difference between the two approaches is deemed to be helpful to the students. Methodology. First, this research is an attempt to investigate and analyze the existing literature to establish a contextual framework for a structured and logical dissertation process applicable to both qualitative and quantitative research approaches. Second, the paper applies the framework to both approaches to guide doctoral students in the completion of the dissertation process. Unlike many other studies, this study provides doctoral students with a foundation to develop and build a research identity, leading to quality doctoral dissertations. This study is significant for doctoral students’ preparedness for the dissertation process as they move through different stages and apply appropriate pedagogical approaches to not only connect these stages but also scientifically and logically validate the relationships between these stages. Contribution. Developing a tabulated summary of findings based on comparative analysis for the differences between the key sections of qualitative and quantitative to be used as a reference for doctoral mentors/advisors as they guide their students on the choice between qualitative or quantitative dissertation approaches. This study is different from other studies published on the same topic for two reasons. First, this paper focuses on specific sections of the doctoral dissertation, namely seven sections that are considered “key” sections of the dissertation document. Second, the study provides a tabulated summary at the end. The one-page summary of keywords suggests what is included in each approach (qualitative vs quantitative). The summary of keywords could also initiate further discussion and research on the same topics. Findings. The outcome of this study is the presentation of a tabulated summary of findings on the difference in the key sections of qualitative doctoral dissertations versus quantitative doctoral dissertations. The findings of this research aim to help doctoral mentors/advisors guide students when contemplating the selection of research approach and doctoral students who are conflicted between the two approaches. Recommendations for Practitioners. Performing comparative analysis and presenting the findings in a tabulated summary to doctoral students is deemed helpful. It helps address the challenges the students face at the beginning of their dissertation writing when they contemplate the selection between the two study approaches. Recommendations for Researchers. More research is needed to give examples of the differences between qualitative and quantitative dissertations. Impact on Society. The findings of this research aim to help doctoral mentors/advisors guide students when contemplating the selection of research approach and doctoral students who are conflicted between the two approaches.

Résumé :
Digitalization, which changes the way of doing business in the tourism sector, is important in terms of being aware and not falling behind in transformation. The studies show that Turkey is interested in the tools used to change the functioning of the tourism sector. However, due to the difficulty of allocating financial resources to digitalization investments and the lack of necessary talent and human resources for digitalization, it is noteworthy that investments in technologies for web sites, mobile applications and business processes take precedence over technologies developing within the scope of digitalization in Turkey. The study aimed to examine the postgraduate dissertations, which cover digitalization and finance, completed in Turkey in the field of tourism between 2010-2022 and published in the Council of Higher Education database, within the framework of parameters such as “type of the dissertation”, “release year of the dissertation”, “university of the released dissertation”, “number of pages of the dissertation” and “subject of the dissertation”. Within the scope of this study, in which bibliometric analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, is used, 20 dissertations (18 master’s and 2 doctoral) were examined. The study was limited to the parameters mentioned above due to various limitations. Similar studies in the future can be expanded with parameters such as “department of released dissertation”, “title of the advisor”, “language of the dissertation” and “keywords of the dissertation”. It is thought that the results of the study will contribute to the literature and can be a reference for future studies. It is also thought that the contribution to the future related literature can be increased by adding articles, books/book chapters and conference papers in addition to postgraduate dissertations.
