Résumé :
Contemporary architectural proposals usually have to meet many different criteria. The most important are functionality and aesthetics, as well as rationality understood as a reference to costs. In this approach, the architectural proposal appears as a solution to the typical task considered in the Multi-criteria Decision Theory in the discipline generally referred to as Optimization. The paper presents examples of sixteenthcentury garden compositions, to try to answer the question of what the then residents (aristocrats) and the creators who fulfilled their wishes, were guided by. The homeland of the Renaissance is Italy, and the characteristics of this style were: geometry of space in the form of axial arrangement of rooms, symmetry, sheared forms of evergreen plants, and motifs referring to mythology. The basis of the Renaissance garden composition is a simple network of roads and squares, strongly connected to the main building and the remaining garden architecture. Mathematical principles, such as golden division of the segment and the Fibonacci sequence, were used as a way to bring beauty and balance to a design. This style is characterized by clipped garden ground floors with boxwood and molded vegetation. Roses, tulips, peonies and lavender were planted between shaped hedges. The terrace arrangement of some gardens has forced the creation of additional structures, such as retaining walls, ramps, balustrades and stairs. The paper discusses the subject of the golden division and its share in individual garden compositions. The authors showed many mathematical relationships that architects used when designing the described garden assumptions.

Résumé :
In the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), there are 63 territories of traditional land use of the Indigenous Minorities of the North within the boundaries of municipal districts and nasleg (lowest municipal division), as well as nomadic tribal communities. Almost 58 % of the republic’s territory is under the traditional land use status. The traditional use of natural resources and traditional lifestyles of indigenous peoples are inextricably linked to the resource potential and ecological state of natural landscapes. The paper is aimed to develop a standardized methodology for the design of a small-scale landscape map of traditional land use in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). Based on the review of atlas approaches to landscape structure mapping of protected natural areas, we propose to use a multi-thematic dataset of geospatial layers according to the criteria of the classification of typological, regional and basin categories of landscapes. The dataset includes layers from previously published landscape maps and permafrost-landscape regionalization maps, soil-vegetation maps, and global geospatial data for Hammond relief regions, GMTED2010 digital elevation model and HydroBASINS river basins. Methods for delineation of mapped units include overlay geoprocessing, zonal statistics, and relief analysis. For the basemap, the description of typological landscape units includes landscape subclass-genus-type(subtype) and terrain type. The methodology was tested for the Ust-Maiskij district with predominance of mountain taiga and mid-taiga landscapes and Eveno-Bytantaiskij national district with predominance of mountain-tundra, mountain-woodland and north taiga landscapes. The obtained landscape maps contain 36 typological units that synthesize 6 subclasses, 7 landscape types (subtypes) and 12 terrain types by 5 landscape provinces and large river basins (Lena, Yana, Omoloi and Aldan). Thus, the proposed landscape mapping methodology covers the holistic spatial structure of the leading components, allowing for a multidimensional approach to territorial planning and functional zoning of traditional land use.

Résumé :
One of the remarkable features of Mediterranean landscapes is the terraced land frame, usually supported by dry stone walling. The terraces, property division walls, pathways and traditional paths design a network compartmentalization that defines landscape identity. The informational content, aesthetic quality, ecological and cultural values allowed by this articulated construction are particularly important at coastal zones with intense human impact. On the Algarve, the hills displayed by such structures form the background scenario of an urban-touristic system. This paper aims to interrelate ecological, aesthetic, symbolic, socio-economic and political aspects that influence the spatial distribution and image of the terraces. The values that local people may assign to their landscapes will determine the acknowledgement of the structural elements under analysis, but the role of tourists must be seriously take into account. Beyond nostalgic solutions, one must prospect the future of the dry stone walling structure into the diversity of possible solutions for a sustainable landscape development, which enhances the living part of an inseparable unit that includes the densest urbanized areas with less ecological functions. We call such unit the urban-touristic region of Algarve and, therefore, we try to use landscape as an instrument of knowledge and acknowledgement of regional spaces.

This paper engages with debates over estate and empire during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars through a focus on park landscaping. Drawing on Colley's (1992) idea of a ‘cult of the elite hero’ and work on life geographies (Daniels and Nash, 2004), it examines landscape and monument design commemorating naval service. Unlike most other studies of this period, the paper examines naval monuments in the private setting of a landscape park and considers the ways in which this disrupts a neat division between public and private spheres. At Thoresby Park in Nottinghamshire, Charles Pierrepont, a naval veteran active in landscape improvement, created a ‘naval seascape’ which promoted a sense of a ‘service elite’ (Colley, 1992). The paper examines the contested meanings of this seascape and the ways in which they help revision the nature of landscape parks during the French Wars and their public and private roles.

Résumé :
With the vigorous development of computer, two-dimensional data acquisition technology and massive data dynamic visualization information technology, two-dimensional geographic information system (GIS) has gradually matured, and has been transferred from the initial visual expression to thematic application. Because 3D geographic information system has the characteristics of multidimensional data processing, classification, and presentation of information, it breaks through the confinement of monotonously displayed information on the traditional two-dimensional plane and has made breakthroughs in government assisted decision-making, national resource investigation, intelligent transportation, and other fields. E-commerce has been widely used in the field, and it is also very obvious in the field of spatial information socialization, playing an irreplaceable intergenerational effect. The visualization of landscape design is one of the key technologies to construct 3D GIS. Based on the combination of basic research and practical application, this paper deeply analyzes the openness of the garden 3D visualization system using artificial intelligence technology and completes the overall structure design of the 3D visualization system on the basis of studying the practical value and feasibility. Combined with the construction of the system, it is true to determine the acquisition method and construction method of three-dimensional landscape architecture model data, classify the landscape architecture information, and establish geometric model type libraries and texture model libraries. At the same time, the system adopts the object-oriented spatial relational database management mode to organize and manage the three-dimensional landscape building data efficiently and quickly. Determine the corresponding software and hardware configurations, carry out the interface design of the system and the division of functional modules, and establish a three-dimensional terrain visualization system for landscape architecture. In order to improve the operational efficiency of the system, the data is rationally organized and managed while taking optimization measures for the 3D model. Finally, the system adopts AI technology and uses component technology to realize the research of the intelligent terminal application system of landscape architecture.

Résumé :
Properly managed urban household waste landfills play a crucial role in achieving sustainable development and ecological civilization. This paper proposes an innovative design method that aims to overcome the limitations and extensive challenges of traditional urban domestic waste landfill design by combining aerial image segmentation with ecological restoration theory. We suggest an enhanced SEVnet, a combination of the basic vnet network and the sequence-and-excitation module, for precise and efficient garbage dump identification. Through this module, the network can independently analyze the significance of each feature channel and provide weights, leading to enhanced image detail recovery and more precise segmentation. We implemented the proposed SEVnet model based on an aerial photography database of urban garbage dumps. Following precise urban garbage disposal site division, we adopt ecological restoration theory to achieve sustainable design. This article presents the Saihanba area in China as a case study, collects pertinent data, and conducts image segmentation and GIS-assisted analysis. This paper examines the landscape application and design of the landfill site based on an analysis and planning of land use in its vicinity. The intervention of landscape ecology imbues the landfill site with new functions. We propose comprehensive planning and landscape restoration design measures from four perspectives, encompassing disadvantages, threats, opportunities, and strengths, using SWOT analysis to better integrate the Hebei Saihanba landfill site with the surrounding environment. This paper introduces a groundbreaking design scheme for a landfill that aligns with the principles of current green and sustainable development.

Résumé :
This contribution starts from a question: in what terms can the design reason that is guiding the action of numerous contemporary architects, city planners and project makers be considered and defined? We argue that that such reason can be defined as ‘forest intelligence’, opposed to the human-animal intelligence that has instead characterised the repertoire of architectural-urban solutions from modernity onwards. The latter is characterised by verticality, exemplified by classes of opposites such as centre and periphery, the space of ‘nature’ and the space of the ‘city’. On the other hand, the new ‘forest intelligence’ is characterised by horizontality – urban polycentrism, interrelation between the parts of the city, absence of a clear division between ‘natural’ and urban space. Therefore, we have investigated three remarkable moments of the first quarter of our century. From the art world, the Documenta 13 exhibition (2012); representing architecture and landscape design, Gilles Clément’s Manifeste du Tiers paysage (2004); and from the field of politics, the ‘New Landscape Declaration’ (2016), an updated manifesto for landscape practice. We believe that these three specific and topical events can be understood as activators, initiators and at the same time as spaces for publicising the aforementioned ‘forest intelligence’.

Résumé :
Excavations at Abreu Garcia provide a detailed case study of a mound and enclosure mortuary complex used by the southern proto-Jê in the southern Brazilian highlands. The recovery of 16 secondary cremation deposits within a single mound allows an in-depth discussion of spatial aspects of mortuary practices. A spatial division in the placement of the interments adds another level of duality to the mortuary landscape, which comprises: (1) paired mound and enclosures, (2) twin mounds within a mound and enclosure, and (3) the dual division in the mound interior. The multiple levels of nested asymmetric dualism evoke similarities to the moiety system that characterizes modern southern Jê groups, highlighting both the opposition and the complementarity of the social system. The findings offer deeper insight into fundamental aspects of southern proto-Jê social organization, including the dual nature of the community, the manifestation of social structure in the landscape, and its incorporation into mortuary ritual. The results have implications for research design and developing appropriate methodologies to answer culture-specific questions. Furthermore, the parallels among archaeology, ethnohistory, and ethnography enable an understanding of the foundation of modern descendent groups and an assessment of the continuity in indigenous culture beyond European contact.

Résumé :
Krakow is a city of high landscape values, which has found confirmation in the entry onto the UNESCO heritage list. Its cultural landscape requires protection and clarification within the context of intensive tourist use and a rapid pace of urban spatial development. For preservation protection and restoration of landscape values, the city authorities undertook work on the creation of a Cultural Park in the Stradom and Kazimierz districts, providing a comprehensive, sustainable, and multidisciplinary approach to natural, cultural and visual values of the urban structure. The article presents the application of the method of research on visual values in order to protect individual scenic resources of the historical urban structure. It is one of the analytical studies of a comprehensive protection plan project. This project defines the scope, framework and methods of development and management of a Cultural Park. The task of the visual analysis was to identify, characterize and evaluate the visual resources. It created a visual framework for further development of the historical district while preserving its local spatial identity. The studies resulted in a division into zones according to their nature and intensity of activities as well as outlining protection zones and intervention zones adjusted to individual characteristics of those places. An original method combining achievements of the method of landscape and visual assessment (LVIA) as well as achievements of the Krakow School of Landscape Architecture (KSLA) in terms of cultural landscape assessment was used for the research. The applied method provided guidelines to support sustainable project decisions regarding further development of the district for the preservation of local spatial identity. Its universal character creates possibilities for its application into the plans of other Krakow districts and is intended to be applicable to both urban and rural structures.

Résumé :
In the modernization process since China’s reform and liberalization, urban and village space design is reflected in the characteristics of Western cultures. The idea of Western space design has a profound influence on China, but the piecemeal individuation of art design, the disorderly public art modeling and concept, not only interferes with the aesthetic sense of urban and village public space itself, but also seriously affected the landscape order of public space. In fact, Chinese traditional settlement landscape excels in abundant landscape design and spatial sequence. This paper, using the methods of literature discussion, field research and spatial analysis, takes the typical traditional landscape settlement “Xinye Village” (新葉村) in the south of the Yangtze River as an example, and explores its public landscape order as a whole, and finds its spatial structure based on the “Five Elements and Nine Divisions (五行九宮)” cultural schemata. In the process of development, it has experienced the competition of public space, thus forming a stable and sustainable spatial order form. The purpose is to explore the cultural schema of the public landscape from the traditional Chinese settlement, and to put forward the possibility of “constructing the public landscape order based on culture” in future urban and village landscape design.

Résumé :
With the in-depth study of architectural planning in China, more and more designers and developers are aware of the superiority of the use of technological robots to improve the speed and quality of construction, weakening past experience and based on real-world research through modern technology. However, the application of this method in the predesign work is not mature. To be specific, designers may lack expertise due to the overly detailed division of labor. In addition, the developer’s blind pursuit of profitability leads to inaccurate market positioning and forecasting. At the same time, the lack of effective communication between designers and developers, architects and owners makes the predesign work ineffective and does not provide reasonable and accurate guidance for the building design. Therefore, the predesign work requires the designer to analyze and select the site reasonably. In addition, it is necessary to conduct in-depth research on the target customers. At the same time, it is necessary to accurately position and predict the dynamic market, and then to have a thorough understanding of the norms and regulations. As a result, the predesign work enables the design to be analyzed in the context of the actual situation. Then, according to the data and information from various aspects, effective planning and argumentation are carried out, and corresponding decisions are made to provide guidance for the design. Overall, predesign is a process of rational planning of the design process. In fact, in the process of landscape design innovation, it is necessary to fully consider the requirements of the intelligent era. Therefore, multimedia and advanced robotics can continuously enhance the interaction and experience of urban landscape to make it integrate into the intelligent system of the future city. In other words, multimedia technology can enhance the new image of the city in an intelligent, digital, and humanized interactive experience. Especially in the landscape design process, the advent of computers has enabled landscape designers to use relevant design software to design their own works, thus giving them unlimited design possibilities. Virtual reality technology, as a form of computer technology, provides designers with a new creative experience in the design phase of a landscape project. To be specific, this technology allows designers to freely grasp the design space and scientifically compare the differences between design options to make the design more reasonable and complete. Therefore, this paper analyzes the differences in the general environment and concepts of 3D software virtual reality technology, starting from the characteristics of the application of 3D technology as an entry point. At the same time, this study uses the similarities and differences in technology to discover the vital role of using virtual reality technology to reconstruct the space and the impact of robots on modern architecture.

This article reflects on the traditional distinction between scientific laboratories experimenting on theories and phenomena and a political outside where non-experts make do with human values, opinions, and passions. Since today all people are engaged in emerging collective experiments on matters as varied as climate, food, landscape, health, urban design, and technical communication as consumers, militants, and citizens, they can all be considered co-researchers. Co-researching has consequences for our understanding of nature and demands a renewed attention to “multinaturalist” politics. It also questions the division of labor between experts and nonexperts. The article finishes with a call to “dis-invent” modernity so that we “moderns” can finally become ordinary humans again.

Résumé :
The Dept. of Horticulture changed its curriculum prior to 1992 to conform to the change from the quarter to the semester system that took place in Fall 1992. As a result of changes in our student body, their interests, and new accounting procedures for determining productivity in our college and the university, another revamping of our curriculum was accomplished beginning in Fall 1992 and our curriculum was changed again to take effect in Fall 1994. Our students now have a choice of a Landscape, Design, Construction Management option or Horticulture. Students all take a two-semester sequence of an Introductory Horticulture course—they must choose a production and management course from three out of four commodity areas (floriculture, landscape, pomology, or vegetable crops), and three out of five upper-division courses in applied physiology or genetics. They must also take a course in Greenhouse Structures and Management and a senior-level capstone course in Horticutural Management. This curriculum has broadened our students' exposure to horticulture to a much greater degree than was present in our old curriculum. In addition, they have about 20–21 credits (out of 120) for electives.

Résumé :
Human-wildlife conflict (HWC) is a pressing issue worldwide but varies by species over time and place. One of the most prevalent forms of HWC in the mid-hills of Nepal is human-common-leopard conflict (HLC). Leopard attacks, especially in forested areas, can severely impact villagers and their livestock. Information on HLC in the Gorkha district was scarce, thus making it an ideal location to identify high-risk zones and landscape variables associated with such events. Registered cases were collected and reviewed from the Division Forest Office (DFO) during 2019-2021. Claims from DFO records were confirmed with herders and villagers via eight focus group discussions. To enhance modeling success, researchers identified a total of 163 leopard attack locations on livestock, ensuring a minimum distance of at least 100 meters between locations. Using maximum entropy (MaxEnt) and considering 13 environmental variables, we mapped common leopard attack risk zones. True Skill Statistics (TSS) and area under receiver-operator curve (AUC) were used to evaluate and validate the Output. Furthermore, 10 replications, 1,000 maximum iterations, and 1000 background points were employed during modeling. The average AUC value for the model, which was 0.726 ± 0.021, revealed good accuracy. The model performed well, as indicated by a TSS value of 0.61 ± 0.03. Of the total research area (27.92 km2), about 74% was designated as a low-risk area, 19% as a medium-risk area, and 7% as a high-risk area. Of the 13 environmental variables, distance to water (25.2%) was the most significant predictor of risk, followed by distance to road (16.2%) and elevation (10.7%). According to response curves, the risk of common leopard is highest in the areas between 1.5 to 2 km distances from the water sources, followed by the closest distance from a road and an elevation of 700 to 800 m. Results suggest that managers and local governments should employ intervention strategies immediately to safeguard rural livelihoods in high-risk areas. Improvements include better design of livestock corrals, insurance, and total compensation of livestock losses. Settlements near roads and water sources should improve the design and construction of pens and cages to prevent livestock loss. More studies on the characteristics of victims are suggested to enhance understanding of common leopard attacks, in addition to landscape variables. Such information can be helpful in formulating the best management practices.

Résumé :
A new methodology for determination of the ornamental value of woody plants of the Pinoрhyta division is developed. According to their decorative features, gymnosperms may be divided into two groups: the group of morphological features directly forming the decorativeness of coniferous plants and the group of features which indirectly influences the decorativeness of plants. The first group includes seven characteristics: architectonics of the stem and crown, crown shape, length of kweenie crown, color of the needles, a profusion of discoverproven, cones color, the aroma of pine needles and cones. To the second group belong: winter hardiness, frost resistance and damaging of the coniferous plants.
The 5-point scale has been developed for each of the ten characteristics of ornamental conifers. The total sum of which determines the degree of decoration of the species of Pinoрhyta division.
In ontogeny of conifers by the example of Picea abies (L.) Karst., landscape architecture, design and the art of gardening can fully satisfy the morphological condition of the coniferous at the early, young and middle-aged generative stages. In this period the viability of individual species as its external condition (external view), as a rule, aesthetically and emotionally sublime positively perceived by the majority of passers-by or observers. These stages of ontogenesis conifers are characterized by rather high or even maximum decorative value.

This paper delves into the realm of cryptographic analysis by employing mixed-integer linear programming (MILP), a powerful tool for automated cryptanalysis. Building on this foundation, we apply the division property method alongside MILP to conduct a comprehensive cryptanalysis of the IIoTBC (industrial Internet of Things block cipher) algorithm, a critical cipher in the security landscape of industrial IoT systems. Our investigation into IIoTBC System A has led to identifying a 14-round integral distinguisher, further extended to a 22-round key recovery. This significant finding underscores the cipher’s susceptibility to sophisticated cryptanalytic attacks and demonstrates the profound impact of combining the division property method with MILP in revealing hidden cipher weaknesses. In the case of IIoTBC System B, our innovative approach has uncovered a full-round distinguisher. We provide theoretical validation for this distinguisher and uncover a pivotal structural issue in the System B algorithm, specifically the non-diffusion of its third branch. This discovery sheds light on inherent security challenges within System B and points to areas for potential enhancement in its design. Our research, through its methodical examination and analysis of the IIoTBC algorithm, contributes substantially to the field of cryptographic security, especially concerning industrial IoT applications. By uncovering and analyzing the vulnerabilities within IIoTBC, we enhance the understanding of cipher robustness and pave the way for advancements in securing industrial IoT communications.

Résumé :
This study explores the origin and development of the caste system in ancient Aryan society in India. The caste system is a social construct that has shaped the social, economic, and political landscape of communities for centuries. The study uses a qualitative research design, with the framework based on the principle of the Varna System, meaning the division of labor according to social class. The caste system was established based on occupation and social class, dividing people into four groups: priests, rulers, producers or traders, and manual workers or servants. The caste system has endured throughout history, deeply rooted in cultural and traditional practices. The term 'caste' used to describe social hierarchy in Western countries has its roots in the Spanish and Portuguese as well as the Latin word 'casta' which only came into use in the 15th century. In India, the word 'caste' was originally used to refer to a social division system designed to preserve the purity of bloodlines within a group. Over time, the term expanded to include people with close social or blood ties as well as groups with economic privileges and rights, and it became associated with hereditary equality, independent traditional organizations, and customs. The study's objective is to explain the origins and evolution of the caste system in ancient Indian society.

Résumé :
Mixed reality (MR) is rapidly becoming a vital tool, not just in gaming, but also in education, medicine, construction and environmental management. The term refers to systems in which computer-generated content is superimposed over objects in a real-world environment across one or more sensory modalities. Although most of us have heard of the use of MR in computer games, it also has applications in military and aviation training, as well as tourism, healthcare and more. In addition, it has the potential for use in architecture and design, where buildings can be superimposed in existing locations to render 3D generations of plans. However, one major challenge that remains in MR development is the issue of real-time occlusion. This refers to hiding 3D virtual objects behind real articles. Dr Tomohiro Fukuda, who is based at the Division of Sustainable Energy and Environmental Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering at Osaka University in Japan, is an expert in this field. Researchers, led by Dr Tomohiro Fukuda, are tackling the issue of occlusion in MR. They are currently developing a MR system that realises real-time occlusion by harnessing deep learning to achieve an outdoor landscape design simulation using a semantic segmentation technique. This methodology can be used to automatically estimate the visual environment prior to and after construction projects.

Résumé :
Cancer is a devastating condition characterised by the uncontrolled division of cells with many forms remaining resistant to current treatment. A hallmark of cancer is the gradual accumulation of somatic mutations which drive tumorigenesis in cancerous cells, creating a mutation landscape distinctive to a cancer type, an individual patient or even a single tumour lesion. Gene editing with CRISPR/Cas9-based tools now enables the precise and permanent targeting of mutations and offers an opportunity to harness this technology to target oncogenic mutations. However, the development of safe and effective gene editing therapies for cancer relies on careful design to spare normal cells and avoid introducing other mutations. This article aims to describe recent advancements in cancer-selective treatments based on the CRISPR/Cas9 system, especially focusing on strategies for targeted delivery of the CRISPR/Cas9 machinery to affected cells, controlling Cas9 expression in tissues of interest and disrupting cancer-specific genes to result in selective death of malignant cells.

Résumé :
This article investigates architectural responses to everyday sociospatial practices in public spaces in the postconflict urban landscape of Belfast, where public buildings and façades impact pedestrian flows and movement patterns in the public space. While the city has an extended history of vibrant public spaces and active urban life throughout the first half of the twentieth century, devastating memories of the so-called Troubles leave imprints of division across the city’s public spaces. Inscribed by memories of conflict and violence, ground floor façades are mainly solid, disengaging, and do not encourage fluid movement across their thresholds. This article argues that the architectural design of public buildings and spaces characterise attributes of a reciprocal reproduction of memories of fear. A comparative analysis of the architecture of four different public spaces in Belfast city centre highlights factors that inform the relationship between the building façades, ease of accessibility, and use of the public space.

Résumé :
Background The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic significantly reduced elective surgery in the United States, but the impact of COVID-19 on acute surgical complaints and acute care surgery is unknown. Study design A retrospective review was performed of all surgical consults at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in the 30 days prior to and 30 days following confirmation of the first COVID-19 patient at the institution. Consults to all divisions within general surgery were included. Results Total surgical consult volume decreased by 43% in the post-COVID-19 period, with a significant reduction in the median daily consult volume from 14 to 8 ( P < .0001). Changes in consult volume by patient location, chief complaint, and surgical division were variable, in aggregate reflecting a disproportionate decrease among less acute surgical complaints. The percentage of consults resulting in surgical intervention remained equal in the 2 periods (31% vs 28%, odds ratio 0.85, 95% CI 0.61-1.21, P = .38) with most but not all operation types decreasing in frequency. The rise in the COVID-19 inpatient census led to increased consultation for vascular access, accommodated at our center by the creation of a new surgical procedures team. Conclusion The COVID-19 pandemic significantly altered the landscape of acute surgical complaints at our large academic hospital. An appreciation of these trends may be helpful to other Departments of Surgery around the country as they deploy staff and allocate resources in the COVID-19 era.

Résumé :
The fast-gearing and sudden changes in the work landscape brought by the pandemic have forced many organizations to undergo significant transformation and rethinking of the key elements of their processes and work systems including the migration of most office transactions to the digital platform. However, this also demands organizations to produce strategic personnel upgrades and skills harmonization programs to improve the work performance of the employees specifically tailored in the present work landscape. The purpose of this study was to prove the effectiveness of Project PUSH (Personnel Upgrade and Skills Harmonization) as a technical assistance model to improve the work performance of the employees in the Personnel Unit of SDO-Paranaque. This study was a mixed method experimental research design under the pre-experimental category which utilized one group pre-test-post-test. A total of 11 non-teaching personnel took part in the study and have been selected purposively. Initially, a survey questionnaire on personnel needs assessment was conducted as a basis for skills upgrade and harmonization. Then the midyear rating of the participants was collected as baseline data prior to the employment of the program. After the implementation of the program, the final rating was collected for comparison and interpretation. To determine whether there is a statistically significant difference on the mean scores on the skills categories before and after the intervention as well as the ratings for midyear and final rating, t-test was employed. The results revealed that for both computations, there was a statistically significant difference between the mean scores. The result of the qualitative analysis paralleled to the quantitative data presented which also indicated a positive impact to the participants in terms of communication, ICT, work, and social skills and manifested in their performance rating. Evidently, the intervention as a technical assistance model was effective. Research or Personnel implications were provided for future research directions.

Résumé :
Volumetric modular construction (VMC) has considerable benefits in providing better cost, time, quality, productivity, and sustainability performance. However, the adoption is low, owing to various associated risks. This study aims to identify VMC critical risk factors (CRFs) in project stages and project attributes by conducting a systematic literature review of 91 articles. In the project stages, 31 CRFs were identified based on frequency analyses, and divided into four stages: design and planning, offsite manufacturing, transportation and logistics, and onsite assembly. The project attribute risks were divided into the following categories: implementation and schedule, supply chain and financial, safety and ergonomic, and civil and structural. Overall, design and planning risks were critical, as they are crucial in maintaining the project’s upstream and downstream flow. Finally, the study proposed a mitigation framework for using digital technology-based circular strategies to overcome VMC risks. The framework includes disruptive and emergent digital technologies aiming to mitigate risks in VMC, keeping circularity in action. In terms of theoretical contributions, this research delivers a CRF register and categorical division for professionals to better understand the landscape of VMC risks. In terms of practical contributions, the study guides the practitioners towards strategies to overcome the pertinent risks.
