Résumé :
EDF-Based real-time scheduling approach is one of the efficient way of scheduling the recurrent real-time tasks in both soft real-time and hard real-time systems. EDF algorithms entile heavy overhead due to lower scheduling and huge migration. In this paper, an exploratory procedure has been presented for reprocessing of neglected task sets and also examine, whether an improved heuristic set attributed as Enhanced shared CAche Performance (ENCAP) can improve the shared cache performance which processes the task set based on Earliest-Deadline-First (EDF). An Object-Oriented real-time code reusable scheduling components which is designed from the scratch referred as LITMUSRT has been used to test the efficiency and average-case accomplishments where per task utilizations are shortened and overall utilization are not restricted. We also discuss the implementation and experimental evaluation of Task-Repo procedure for co-scheduling task sets, under the utilization of 50-60% (per-task) on small to medium-large multicore LINUX SYSTEM.

Résumé :
Today, due to recent advances in wireless technology, new products using wireless sensor networks are being employed. However, despite the excitement surrounding wireless sensor networks, it is not immune to the problem of energy consumption. To overcome this deficiency and enhance the real time aspect, a growing interest lies in the implementation of an “Earliest Deadline First” (EDF) scheduler. Thus, in this paper, the authors establish a management policy of periodic tasks that is preemptive, multiprocessor, and dynamic. The authors implement a real-time scheduling policy as a part of a user-level threads package under the Linux operating system as Linux does not support EDF. Furthermore, this paper describes the technique of the EDF scheduler and how it can yield to significant power savings.

Résumé :
In the article the authors analyze the institutional basis for strengthening the EU security and the implementation of specific projects designed to expand cooperation between the Member States in the defence and security sectors. The point at issue is about Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO); the Coordinated Annual Review on Defence (CARD) and the European Defence Fund (EDF). The relevance of the comprehensive study of PESCO, CARD, EDF, which activities are aimed at ensuring the strategic component of cooperation, the analysis of the defence sector and funding priorities in the security sphere of the Union have been proved. The authors claim that PESCO has become a key strategic initiative of the EU, CARD allows coordinating the development of military capabilities in the Member States; the EDF was created to coordinate, increase investment and improve defence interoperability between EU member states. The challenges faced within the functioning of these initiatives have been analyzed. It is alleged that a key challenge for the CARD is the unwillingness of Member countries to share national defence plans, as well as the available and potential coordination and harmonization of defence planning within NATO’s Defence Planning. The peculiarities of specific projects financed within the European Defense Fund (“Ocean 2020”, “Eurodrone”, “SPIDER”, “EuroSWARM”, “TRAWA”, “ACAMSII”, “Gossra”, “Vestlife”) have been analyzed. There is continued progress in the field of the EU security and defence: numerous defence projects have been initiated under PESCO; there is a synchronization of defence planning through the CARD; the investments in defence are stimulated by financing the defence research projects through the EDF, the improving military mobility is continuing; coordination of the EU-NATO cooperation is improving, etc.

Résumé :
Abstract Workstations, CPU etc are in a period of transition, moving from a relatively slow network links and data oriented services to a high set fibre optic services and more diverse services. As such many of the hard and soft real time will not only demand high bandwidth but also a predictable and guarantee Quality of Service (QoS) along side, which is not offered in a best effort network (BE). The provision and terms of (QoS) to real-time applications is a key issue in promising broadband packet switched networks and network of other sorts. Applications such as voice and video typically require QoS guarantees in terms of end-to-end data transfer delays. Supporting the diverse and of course, heterogeneous delay requirements of applications with widely varying characteristics requires packet scheduling schemes more sophisticated than First-In-First-Out (FIFO) at each switch in the network(2) are one of most accepted examples of such scheduling schemes. This points to the convincing need for a QoS, which apportion a high network utilization to be realized. In this paper, we focus on the EDF scheduling scheme, since it is known to provide the optimal delay performance (2), in the deterministic environment, and can for this reason be expected to perform well in the real time setting as well. The large amount of bandwidth as promised by the future network also offer the integration of real time applications, hard or soft.

Résumé :
AbstractA new approach to goodness-of-fit for Pareto distributions is introduced. Based on Euclidean distances between sample elements, the family of statistics and tests is indexed by an exponent in (0,2) on Euclidean distance. The corresponding tests are statistically consistent and have excellent performance when applied to heavy-tailed distributions. The exponent can be tailored to the particular Pareto distribution. The goodness-of-fit statistic measures all types of differences between distributions, hence it is also applicable as a minimum distance estimator. Implementation of the test statistics is developed and applied to estimation of the tail index in three well known examples of claims data, and compared with the classical EDF statistics.

Résumé :
This paper presents a novel design of a coprocessor that performs hardware-accelerated task scheduling for embedded real-time systems consisting of mixed-criticality real-time tasks. The proposed solution is based on the Robust Earliest Deadline (RED) algorithm and previously developed hardware architectures used for scheduling of real-time tasks. Thanks to the HW implementation of the scheduler in the form of a coprocessor, the scheduler operations (i.e., instructions) are always completed in two clock cycles regardless of the actual or even maximum task amount within the system. The proposed scheduler was verified using simplified version of UVM and applying billions of randomly generated instructions as inputs to the scheduler. Chip area costs are evaluated by synthesis for Intel FPGA Cyclone V and for 28-nm TSMC ASIC. Three versions of real-time task schedulers were compared: EDF-based scheduler designed for hard real-time tasks only, GED-based scheduler and the proposed RED-based scheduler, which is suitable for tasks of various criticalities. According to the synthesis results, the RED-based scheduler consumes LUTs and occupies larger chip area than the original EDF-based scheduler with equivalent parameters used. However, the RED-based scheduler handles variations of task execution times better, achieves higher CPU utilization and can be used for the scheduling of hard real-time, soft real-time and nonreal-time tasks combined in one system, which is not possible with the former algorithms.

Résumé :
The Tube Support Plate blockage, also named clogging, is a complex phenomenon that can occur in the steam generator of Pressurized Water Reactors. This deposit of iron oxides, that can reduce the coolant flux and constraint the primary tubes, could have significant consequences on heat exchanges and the integrity of the primary tubes. Since 2014, an experimental program carried out jointly by CEA-EDF, has been performed on a representative dedicated equipment, the COLENTEC loop at Cadarache. The physico-chemical properties of the deposit formed (chemical composition, thickness...) were determined at the end of each experimental campaign lead at thermohydraulic and chemical stable conditions. ... In order to determine the influence on clogging of parameters such as the chemistry, the temperature, the pressure in an on line process and without performing separate experimental campaigns, a method of measurement on radioactive tracer, the gamma emitter 59Fe, has been studied by our laboratory. First, a modelization with a monte carlo code, MCNP, has been carried out with the geometrical configuration of the Tube Support Plate zone of COLENTEC in order to determine the most adapted measuring station. These calculations had shown that a 30% efficiency, high purity, germanium detector, with a specific collimation would be able to detect the accumulation of 59Fe in the Tube Support Plate of COLENTEC. Then, in order to improve and ensure those important online measurements, our laboratory has proposed the installation of two additional measuring stations. One will be dedicated to a second on-line measurement, with a gamma detector of the same type, but positioned on a section of the loop remote from the previous area, to verify that there is no significant secondary deposit evolution elsewhere on the circuit. The last additional gamma measurement station will consist of a low background system able to carry out 59Fe concentration measurements of liquid samples taken from the loop during the test. This paper presents the context of this experiment and then focuses on the spectrometry measuring stations, modelizations and tests.

Résumé :
While modern low-power microcontrollers are a cornerstone of wearable physiological sensors, their limited on-chip storage typically makes peripheral storage devices a requirement for long-term physiological sensing—significantly increasing both size and power consumption. Here, a wearable biosensor system capable of long-term recording of physiological signals using a single, 64 kB microcontroller to minimize sensor size and improve energy performance is described. Electrodermal (EDA) signals were sampled and compressed using a multiresolution wavelet transformation to achieve long-term storage within the limited memory of a 16-bit microcontroller. The distortion of the compressed signal and errors in extracting common EDA features is evaluated across 253 independent EDA signals acquired from human volunteers. At a compression ratio (CR) of 23.3×, the root mean square error (RMSErr) is below 0.016 μ S and the percent root-mean-square difference (PRD) is below 1%. Tonic EDA features are preserved at a CR = 23.3× while phasic EDA features are more prone to reconstruction errors at CRs > 8.8×. This compression method is shown to be competitive with other compressive sensing-based approaches for EDA measurement while enabling on-board access to raw EDA data and efficient signal reconstructions. The system and compression method provided improves the functionality of low-resource microcontrollers by limiting the need for external memory devices and wireless connectivity to advance the miniaturization of wearable biosensors for mobile applications.

Résumé :
Background When we were unable to identify an electronic data capture (EDC) package that supported our requirements for clinical research in resource-limited regions, we set out to build our own reusable EDC framework. We needed to capture data when offline, synchronize data on demand, and enforce strict eligibility requirements and complex longitudinal protocols. Based on previous experience, the geographical areas in which we conduct our research often have unreliable, slow internet access that would make web-based EDC platforms impractical. We were unwilling to fall back on paper-based data capture as we wanted other benefits of EDC. Therefore, we decided to build our own reusable software platform. In this paper, we describe our customizable EDC framework and highlight how we have used it in our ongoing surveillance programs, clinic-based cross-sectional studies, and randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in various settings in India and Ecuador. Objective This paper describes the creation of a mobile framework to support complex clinical research protocols in a variety of settings including clinical, surveillance, and RCTs. Methods We developed ConnEDCt, a mobile EDC framework for iOS devices and personal computers, using Claris FileMaker software for electronic data capture and data storage. Results ConnEDCt was tested in the field in our clinical, surveillance, and clinical trial research contexts in India and Ecuador and continuously refined for ease of use and optimization, including specific user roles; simultaneous synchronization across multiple locations; complex randomization schemes and informed consent processes; and collecting diverse types of data (laboratory, growth measurements, sociodemographic, health history, dietary recall and feeding practices, environmental exposures, and biological specimen collection). Conclusions ConnEDCt is customizable, with regulatory-compliant security, data synchronization, and other useful features for data collection in a variety of settings and study designs. Furthermore, ConnEDCt is user friendly and lowers the risks for errors in data entry because of real time error checking and protocol enforcement.

Résumé :
The United Nations calls on the international community to implement an ecosystem approach to fisheries (EAF) that considers the complex interrelationships between fisheries and marine and coastal ecosystems, including social and economic dimensions. However, countries experience significant national challenges for the application of the EAF. In this article, we used public officials’ knowledge to understand advances, gaps, and priorities for the implementation of the EAF in Chile. For this, we relied on the valuable information held by fisheries managers and government officials to support decision-making. In Chile, the EAF was established as a mandatory requirement for fisheries management in 2013. Key positive aspects include the promotion of fishers’ participation in inter-sectorial Management Committees to administrate fisheries and the regulation of bycatch and trawling on seamounts. Likewise, Scientific Committees formal roles in management allow the participation of scientists by setting catch limits for each fishery. However, important gaps were also identified. Officials highlighted serious difficulties to integrate social dimensions in fisheries management, and low effective coordination among the institutions to implement the EAF. We concluded that establishing clear protocols to systematize and generate formal instances to build upon government officials’ knowledge seems a clear and cost effective way to advance in the effective implementation of the EAF.

Résumé :
Objective. To examine the implementation of estimated date of discharge (EDD) for planned admissions and admissions via the emergency department, to assess the variance between EDD and the actual date of discharge (ADD), and to explore the determinants of delayed discharge in a tertiary referral centre, Sydney, Australia. Methods. Primary data from a convenience sample of 1958 admissions for allocation of EDDs were linked with administrative data. The window for assigning EDDs for planned admissions was 24 h, for admissions via the emergency department it was 48 h. Logistic regression models were used to examine the key factors associated with an EDD being assigned within 24 h or 48 h of an admission. An ordinal logistic regression model was used to explore the determinants of delayed discharge. Results. Only 13.4% of planned admissions and 27.5% of admissions via the emergency department were allocated a timely EDD. Older patients, patients with significant burdens of chronic morbidity (OR = 0.903; P = 0.011); and patients from a non-English-speaking background (OR = 0.711; P = 0.059) were less likely to be assigned a timely EDD. The current Charlson Index score was a significant predictor of a positive variance between EDD and ADD. Conclusions. The prevalence of the timely assignment of an EDD was low and was lowest for planned admissions. The current Charlson Index score is an effective tool for identifying patients who are more likely to experience delayed discharge. What is known about the topic? Failure to assign an EDD is one of the major barriers to implementing effective discharge. Establishing an EDD for a patient within 24 h of an admission is thought to be a measure of efficient and high quality discharge planning. What does this paper add? Older patients, patients with significant burdens of chronic morbidity, and patients from a non-English-speaking background were less likely to be assigned a timely EDD. The current Charlson Index score was a significant predictor of a positive variance between EDD and ADD. What are the implications for practitioners? A significant gap existed between policy and the implementation of assigning EDD in a large sample of discharges. Effective discharge planning may be obstructed by failure to assign an EDD at the time of admission.

Résumé :
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the implementation of equity crowdfunding (ECF) within the record industry in terms of challenges and opportunities, in addition to the marketing and financial implications for independent music artists and major record labels. Design/methodology/approach This study adopted a qualitative methodology consisting of two-stage interview-based research methods. A total of 44 semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with the CEOs of ECF platforms in the record industry, other related record industry informants, independent artist managers and senior executives from major record labels. Findings The loyalty aspect of ECF may have significant marketing potential in terms of inconspicuously using the equity platform as a “prosumer” identification mechanism. As this early career stage of artists is delicate in terms of establishing trust and patronage from their fans, these early marketing and ECF ventures should be implemented directly from the artist without external third-party involvement. Research limitations/implications The implications of this paper’s findings and theoretical model are not limited to the two studied stakeholder groups of the record industry. The insights in relation to the obstinate lack of understanding and clarity (particularly for independent artists) which surround ECF are likely to influence short-term strategic approaches by other players throughout the wider music industry. Practical implications The insights regarding negative approaches towards ECF by the labels may influence future “coopetition strategies” for independent labels, as they seek to navigate the changing industry dynamics. Originality/value This paper is the first study to empirically explore the predominantly under-researched area of ECF implementation in the record industry in terms of marketing and financial consequences for artists and labels.

Résumé :
ObjectiveBetween 1998 and 2009 reported exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) rates in South African infants, aged 0–6 months, ranged from 6.2% to 25.7%. In 2011, the National Minister of Health shifted policy to promote ‘exclusive’ breast feeding for all women in South Africa irrespective of HIV status (Tshwane Declaration of Support for Breastfeeding in South Africa). This analysis examines early EBF prior to and through implementation of the declaration.SettingData from the three South Africa national, cross-sectional, facility-based surveys, conducted in 2010, 2011–12 and 2012–13, were analysed. Primary health facilities (n=580) were randomly selected after a stratified multistage probability proportional-to-size sampling to provide valid national and provincial estimates.ParticipantsA national sample of all infants attending their 6 weeks vaccination at selected facilities. The number of caregiver-infant pairs enrolled were 10 182, 10 106 and 9120 in 2010, 2011–12, and 2012–13, respectively.Primary outcome measureExclusive breast feeding as measured using structured 24 hours recall plus prior 7 days (8 days inclusive prior to day interview) and WHO definition.ResultsThe adjusted OR comparing EBF prevalence in 2011–12 and 2012–13 with 2010 were 2.08 and 5.51, respectively. Mothers with generally higher socioeconomic status, HIV-positive, unplanned pregnancy, primipara, postcaesarean delivery, resided in certain provinces and women who did not receive breastfeeding counselling had significantly lower odds of EBF.ConclusionWith what seemed to be an intransigently low EBF rate since 1998, South Africa saw an increase in early EBF for infants aged 4–8 weeks from 2010 to 2013, coinciding with a major national breastfeeding policy change. These increases were seen across all provinces and subgroups, suggesting a population-wide effect, rather than an increase in certain subgroups or locations. While these increases in EBF were significant, the 59.1% prevalence is still below desired levels of early EBF. Further improvements in EBF programmes are needed.

Recent Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) guidelines provide a regulatory framework for Title II of the Jumpstart Our Business Start-ups (JOBS) Act of 2012, that legalised interstate equity crowdfunding (ECF) in the USA. Concurrently, 18 states have passed legislation or regulations to allow intrastate ECF. Yet, the literature has not fully addressed what this nascent funding mechanism will offer to investors and those seeking funding for entrepreneurial projects in the USA. This article reviews current US legislation and the federal and state laws as they pertain to ECF. It also discusses the anticipated implications of ECF, provides a conceptual model that demonstrates how crowdfunding can change the traditional equity-financing continuum and discusses externalities that may emanate from implementation of this relatively new means of raising capital.

Résumé :
Background Statistical analysis, which has become an integral part of evidence-based medicine, relies heavily on data quality that is of critical importance in modern clinical research. Input data are not only at risk of being falsified or fabricated, but also at risk of being mishandled by investigators. Objective The urgent need to assure the highest data quality possible has led to the implementation of various auditing strategies designed to monitor clinical trials and detect errors of different origin that frequently occur in the field. The objective of this study was to describe a machine learning–based algorithm to detect anomalous patterns in data created as a consequence of carelessness, systematic error, or intentionally by entering fabricated values. Methods A particular electronic data capture (EDC) system, which is used for data management in clinical registries, is presented including its architecture and data structure. This EDC system features an algorithm based on machine learning designed to detect anomalous patterns in quantitative data. The detection algorithm combines clustering with a series of 7 distance metrics that serve to determine the strength of an anomaly. For the detection process, the thresholds and combinations of the metrics were used and the detection performance was evaluated and validated in the experiments involving simulated anomalous data and real-world data. Results Five different clinical registries related to neuroscience were presented—all of them running in the given EDC system. Two of the registries were selected for the evaluation experiments and served also to validate the detection performance on an independent data set. The best performing combination of the distance metrics was that of Canberra, Manhattan, and Mahalanobis, whereas Cosine and Chebyshev metrics had been excluded from further analysis due to the lowest performance when used as single distance metric–based classifiers. Conclusions The experimental results demonstrate that the algorithm is universal in nature, and as such may be implemented in other EDC systems, and is capable of anomalous data detection with a sensitivity exceeding 85%.

Résumé :
Tanzania has high fertility, low contraceptive prevalence and low exclusive breastfeeding (EBF). The Lake Zone, including Mara and Kagera regions, leads the country in total fertility; use of the lactational amenorrhea method (LAM) is negligible. This pre-/post-study explored the effects of a multi-level facility and community intervention (service delivery support, community engagement, media and LAM tracking) to integrate maternal and infant nutrition and postpartum family planning (FP) within existing health contacts. Mixed methods were used, including service statistics, exit interviews, patient-tracking tools for community health workers, client self-tracking tools, supervision data, focus group discussions and in-depth interviews. Results are presented using the reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation and maintenance (RE-AIM) implementation science framework. The intervention reached primarily the second and fourth wealth quintiles, increased FP and EBF at six weeks postpartum. LAM was very acceptable, provided an entry point for FP conversations and for addressing misconceptions, and reinforced EBF practices. Partners felt encouraged to support spousal nutrition, breastfeeding and FP. Higher adoption in Kagera may be influenced by performance-based financing. The intervention was implemented with generally high fidelity. Maintenance data reflected stakeholder interest in continuing the intervention. A multi-level facility and community intervention was feasible to implement and likely contributed to improved EBF practices and FP uptake, including LAM use.

Résumé :
Background. Pandemic of Covid-19 has claimed millions of human lives and affected all aspects of human life including the implementation of early initiation of breastfeeding (EBF) and exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) due to prolonged lockdown. Around two-thirds of infant death happened in neonatal age as the result of low practices the early initiation of breastfeeding and not exclusively breastfeed. Public health center has tasks to run health community program to reach the coverage of 50% EIBF and EBF. This study aimed to analyze the trend of prevalence of EIBF and EBF coverage from 2017 to 2020. Method. The study was a cross-sectional study using secondary data taken from Parongil Public Health Center, Dairi District. Data on the number of neonatal and babies aged 0-6 months and coverage EIBF and EBF were taken from the monthly report. Prior to processing the data, validation was conducted. Data was presented in the univariate table in frequency distribution and proportion. Trends of EIBF and EBF coverage were presented inline graphics. Results. The trend of prevalence of EIBF had been increasing from year 2017 to 2020 that was from 77.4% to 81.6% while EBF tended to decreasing from 45% to 40.0%. Pandemic Covid-19 might not have affected the coverage of EIBF and EBF. Factors of low education level worked as farmers, low income, low husband support, and no breastfeeding counselors were the main causes of low gaining of EBF.

Résumé :
Introduction: Despite evidence that triage liaison physicians (TLP) effectively reduce emergency department (ED) overcrowding, support for these interventions is patchy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the implementation of a TLP-like ED Disposition and Care Consultant (EDC) shift at an academic tertiary care ED. Methods: A 24-week pilot project was conducted 11/16-04/17. Physicians worked 8- hour day (07-15:00) and/or evening (15:00-23:00) EDC shifts and performed immediate triage and patient care when needed, assisted triage RNs, answered all incoming calls, and managed administrative matters. Due to their voluntary nature, not all shifts were filled. This study compared active (EDC) and control (C) shifts on the following ED metrics: length of stay (LOS), proportions of patients who left without being seen (LWBS), and safety (return visits to ED). Descriptive (median and interquartile range {IQR} and proportions) and simple (Wilcoxson-Mann-Whitney, chi-square, z-proportion) tests are presented for continuous and dichotomous outcomes, respectively. Multiple linear regression identified factors associated with LOS. Results: Of 112 possible EDC shifts, 58 (52%) were filled involving 4289 patients and compared to 276 C shifts involving 21,358 patients. ED volume, patient age (49; IQR: 31, 66), mode of arrival (~30% EMS), triage levels (~51% level 3), and complaints were similar between the groups. Overall, the EDC group reduced LWBS by 16% (8.7% vs. 10.4%; p=0.001), ED LOS for discharged patients by 30 minutes (5.5 vs. 6.0 hours; p<0.001), and ED LOS for admitted patients by 42 minutes (9.7 vs. 10.4 hours; p=0.02). The EDC increased the proportion discharged <4 hours by 28% (20.1 vs. 15.7%; p<0.001) and increased the proportion admitted <8 hours by 17% (8.2% vs. 9.6%, p=0.002). ED relapses <72 hours were similar (9.3% vs. 8.9%; p=0.4); however, admissions were higher in the EDC shifts (25.3% vs. 23.8%; p=0.04). In addition to EDC coverage status, LOS was influenced by triage level (1.7%, p<0.001), disposition (19.6%, p<0.001), and age (4.8%, p<0.001). Conclusion: Our results indicate that an EDC shift, while unpopular with many physicians, provides valuable services to an overcrowded ED and that the implementation of this type of shift could reduce LOS and LWBS statistics in a tertiary care institution. Additional evaluations to examine this and other front-end interventions in other ED centers are indicated.

Résumé :
Low coverage of EBF is a global public health problem. Employment has been recognized as a factor that contributes to additional problems of EBF practice among women employees in Indonesia as they work more than 8 hours per day. In Indonesia, about 200,000 industrial companies which employed women in their production activities and they give only 3 months maternity leave. As a result, the coverage of EBF among industrial remains low. While policies already exist, the technical guidelines on the interventions are not well implemented due to unpractical approaches on these guidelines. This dissertation aims to analyse the interventions to address barriers of EBF in order to increase EBF coverage among industrial women employees in Indonesia. This is an in depth study using secondary data to review best practices to increase low coverage of EBF among industrial women employees. Propose of the study was to provide recommendations that could be implemented in Indonesian setting. The study show that there are three group level barriers i.e individual, group and social-culture contributed to low coverage of EBF. The analysis revealed that work place intervention such as lactation program and increasing employers’ awareness on breastfeeding are effective in implementation and feasible to be implemented in Indonesia. Another intervention is personal intervention i.e prenatal planning and preparation, job sharing and day care. It is recommended that those two interventions could be implanted simultaneously to address the barriers of EBF practice among industrial women employees in Indonesia.

Résumé :
Nigeria has witnessed a rapid increase in female labour participation such that it risks a decline in exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) rate – despite the World Health Organization’s and government’s endorsement of EBF. EBF is a beneficial process of feeding an infant with breast milk only during the first six months. This study aims to assess the extent to which the Nigerian policy addresses the barriers and contributes to improved EBF rates among working mothers in Nigeria. It takes a qualitative approach – policy analysis. The policy analysis critically evaluated the content of the National Policy on Infant and Young Child Feeding in Nigeria (2010) and the Labour Act (2004). The policy documents addressed these barriers to an extent. However, they showed minimal coherence. There are still policy gaps and disparity between the policies and their implementation – attributable to inadequate clarity and insufficient mechanism to spur policy compliance. Therefore, nutritionists should be engaged in such nutrition-specific policy formulation. Further research to measure the impact of this recommendation is encouraged.

Résumé :
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused teachers and students to abandon their physical classrooms and move into emergency distance education (EDE) settings. Thus, sustaining the quality in education has become a challenge during this transitional period. Within this context, the aim of this study was to explore the impact of EDE on language skills development (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) of Turkish pre-service teachers of English as a foreign language (EFL). In this qualitative study, data were gathered from 118 pre-service EFL teachers about the advantages and disadvantages of EDE for their language skills development. Thematic analysis was used as a research design, and nine themes emerged for both advantages and disadvantages. The most important theme for both categories is content and implementation of online courses. This study pinpointed the eminence of this theme, for if it is emphasized enough and handled efficiently, it plays a huge role in developing language skills. The themes and sub-themes generated through thematic analysis showed the advantages and disadvantages of EDE for each skill in detail and also proved that EDE was most advantageous for writing skill and least advantageous for speaking skill. The participants stated that, since writing skill was constantly used for almost all homework, assignments and projects, that skill was nurtured the most. Nevertheless, speaking skill was ignored during online courses, and writing became the new mode of communication by replacing speaking. The outcome of the present study encourages preparedness for EDE against a possible second wave. Thus, the study is hoped to pave the way for anticipating issues and developing solutions for EDE contexts to preserve sustainability in higher education.

Résumé :
The concept of techno-economic pathways is used to investigate the potential implementation of CO2 abatement measures over time towards zero-emission steelmaking in Sweden. The following mitigation measures are investigated and combined in three pathways: top gas recycling blast furnace (TGRBF); carbon capture and storage (CCS); substitution of pulverized coal injection (PCI) with biomass; hydrogen direct reduction of iron ore (H-DR); and electric arc furnace (EAF), where fossil fuels are replaced with biomass. The results show that CCS in combination with biomass substitution in the blast furnace and a replacement primary steel production plant with EAF with biomass (Pathway 1) yield CO2 emission reductions of 83% in 2045 compared to CO2 emissions with current steel process configurations. Electrification of the primary steel production in terms of H-DR/EAF process (Pathway 2), could result in almost fossil-free steel production, and Sweden could achieve a 10% reduction in total CO2 emissions. Finally, (Pathway 3) we show that increased production of hot briquetted iron pellets (HBI), could lead to decarbonization of the steel industry outside Sweden, assuming that the exported HBI will be converted via EAF and the receiving country has a decarbonized power sector.

Résumé :
Organic solvents are widely used in wet coating for manufacturing Li ion batteries. This study focused on switching to environmentally benign solvent-free process, and examined a possibility of electrostatic dry coating (EDC) of cathode materials which are generally composed of active oxides, conductive and binder additives. Firstly, the composite particles containing the three components were prepared by dry mechanical treatment, and then EDC experiment was performed for the composite particles. Interestingly, the composite particles could be tribo-charged enough for electrostatic deposition on an earthed Al foil in air, with relatively high deposition rate. The as-deposited film was further dry-pressed to increase the film density (3 × 103kg/m3). A half cell was assembled using the pressed film as cathode electrode, and it was demonstrated that the initial charge-discharge characteristics were comparable to those obtained for wet-coated films. The results obtained indicate that there are some opportunities for the practical implementation of the EDC method for manufacturing functional composite films.

Résumé :
Abstract The empirical cumulative density function (ECDF) approach can be used to combine multiple, diverse assessment metrics into summary assessment metrics (SAMs) to analyze the results of impact experiments and preoperational implementation testing with numerical weather prediction (NWP) models. The main advantages of the ECDF approach are that it is amenable to statistical significance testing and produces results that are easy to interpret because the SAMs for various subsets tend to vary smoothly and in a consistent manner. In addition, the ECDF approach can be applied in various contexts thanks to the flexibility allowed in the definition of the reference sample. The interpretations of the examples presented here of the impact of potential future data gaps are consistent with previously reported conclusions. An interesting finding is that the impact of observations decreases with increasing forecast time. This is interpreted as being caused by the masking effect of NWP model errors increasing to become the dominant source of forecast error.

Résumé :
Whilst investigating student performance in design and arithmetic tasks, as well as during exams, electrodermal activity (EDA)-based sensors have been used in attempts to understand cognitive function and cognitive load. Limitations in the employed approaches include lack of capacity to mark events in the data, and to explain other variables relating to performance outcomes. This paper aims to address these limitations, and to support the utility of wearable EDA sensor technology in educational research settings. These aims are achieved through use of a bespoke time mapping software which identifies key events during task performance and by taking a novel approach to synthesizing EDA data from a qualitative behavioral perspective. A convergent mixed method design is presented whereby the associated implementation follows a two-phase approach. The first phase involves the collection of the required EDA and behavioral data. Phase two outlines a mixed method analysis with two approaches of synthesizing the EDA data with behavioral analyses. There is an optional third phase, which would involve the sequential collection of any additional data to support contextualizing or interpreting the EDA and behavioral data. The inclusion of this phase would turn the method into a complex sequential mixed method design. Through application of the convergent or complex sequential mixed method, valuable insight can be gained into the complexities of individual learning experiences and support clearer inferences being made on the factors relating to performance. These inferences can be used to inform task design and contribute to the improvement of the teaching and learning experience.

Résumé :
Purpose To describe the feasibility and benefits of implementing a custom radiation oncology electronic data capture (EDC) system in a large academic radiation oncology practice. Patients and Methods A Web-based point-and-click EDC known as Brocade was internally developed and implemented systemwide in 2016. Brocade captures key data elements, such as stage, histology, and patient and treatment characteristics; links this information to radiation dose data extracted from the record and verify system; and creates clinical notes that are automatically exported to the hospital electronic health record. We report the number of unique radiation episodes captured by Brocade in its first full year of implementation and describe the notes generated, toxicities captured, compliance with staging and quality assurance, and time of day in which documentation occurred with Brocade versus our prior human transcription system. Results A median of 756 radiation episodes per month was captured for a total of 9,283 unique episodes captured in the first full year of implementation. The most common notes were for on-treatment visits (29,913) and simulations (13,220). Stage was captured for 92.2% of Brocade episodes (8,513 of 9,236) versus 29.7% of courses pre-Brocade (3,025 of 10,170; P < .001). Quality assurance was documented for 96.3% of completed courses (7,601 of 7,892). The most common grade ≥1 toxicities were pain (10,031), fatigue (7,490), and dermatitis (6,172). Brocade implementation was associated with a reduction in off-hours documentation and increase in the proportion of documentation created between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm. Conclusion Brocade is a reliable Web-based EDC tool that improves clinical documentation without detracting from clinical workflow. Moreover, Brocade has the advantage of capturing data in a structured manner that facilitates real-time analytics and outcome reporting.
