A novel interpretation of modified Newtonian dynamics (MOND) is presented. For galactic data, in addition to Newtonian acceleration, there is an attractive acceleration peaking at Milgrom’s parameter, a0. The peak lies within experimental error where a0 = cH0/2π; H0 is the present-time value of the Hubble constant, and c the velocity of light. The physical interpretation of this relation and its connection to dark energy are discussed.

Several ingenious ongoing experiments to detect the DM particles have so far led to negative results. Abstract We propose a new method to constrain alternative models for dark matter with observations. Specifically, we consider hybrid models in which cold dark matter (CDM) phenomena on cosmological scales and Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) phenomena on galactic scales share a common origin. Various such models were recently proposed. They typically contain a mode that is directly coupled to matter (for MOND) and has a non-relativistic sound speed (for CDM). This allows even non-relativistic objects like stars to lose energy through Cherenkov radiation. This is unusual. Most modified gravit

Abstract There has been much interest in novel models of dark matter that exhibit interesting behavior on galactic scales. A primary motivation is the observed Baryonic Tully-Fisher Relation in which the mass of galaxies increases as the quartic power of rotation speed. This scaling is not obviously accounted for by standard cold dark matter. This has prompted the development of dark matter models that exhibit some form of so-called MONDian phenomenology to account for this galactic scaling, while also recovering the success of cold dark matter on large scales. Microbial fuel cells (MFC) are an emerging technology for waste, wastewater and polluted soil treatment. In this manuscript, pollutants that can be treated using MFC systems producing energy are presented. Furthermore, the applicability of MFC in environmental monitoring is described. Common microbial species used, release of genome sequences, and gene regulation mechanisms, are discussed. However, although scaling-up is the key to improving MFC systems, it is still a difficult challenge. Mathematical models for MFCs are used for their design, control and optimization. ABSTRACT The rate of microbial respiration can be described by a rate law that gives the respiration rate as the product of a rate constant, biomass concentration, and three terms: one describing the kinetics of the electron-donating reaction, one for the kinetics of the electron-accepting reaction, and a thermodynamic term accounting for the energy available in the microbe's environment. The rate law, derived on the basis of chemiosmotic theory and nonlinear thermodynamics, is unique in that it accounts for both forward and reverse fluxes through the electron transport chain. Résumé :
This research aimed to use kiwi waste as fuel to generate bioelectricity through microbial fuel cells. It was possible to generate an electrical current and voltage peaks of 3.807 ± 0.102 mA and 0.993 ± 0.061 V on day 11, showing an electrical conductivity of 189.82 ± 3.029 mS/cm and an optimum operating pH of 5.966 ± 0.121. The internal resistance of the cells was calculated using Ohm’s Law, resulting in a value of 14.957 ± 0.394 Ω, while the maximum power density was 212.68 ± 26.84 mW/m2 at a current density of 4.506 A/cm2. Résumé :
In this work we present a scalar field theory invariant under space-time anisotropic transformations with a dynamic exponent z. It is shown that this theory possesses symmetries similar to Hořava gravity and that in the limit z = 0 the equations of motion of the non-relativistic MOND theory are obtained. This result allow us to conjecture the existence of a Hořava type gravity that in the limit z = 0 is consistent with MOND.

Résumé :
This study proposes a mathematical modeling approach for evaluating the effect of applying a permanent electric field on the biodegradation of 1,2-dibromoethane by bacterial cells of Bradyrhizobium japonicum 273. Two models for inhibited microbial growth including product inhibition were composed—one using the Monod–Yerusalimsky approach and another one—the Levenspiel kinetic equation. The models were used to process own experimental data obtained without an electric field and ones obtained at the application of an electric field. The experiments were carried out at an optimum anode potential

Résumé :
Energy is a critical resource, and its optimization is central to sustainable building design. Occupant comfort, significantly influenced by factors, including mean radiant temperature (MRT), alongside air temperature, velocity, and humidity, is another key consideration. This paper introduces a hybrid crow search optimization (CSA) and penguin search optimization algorithm (PeSOA), termed (HCRPN), designed to simultaneously optimize building energy consumption and achieve MRT levels conducive to thermal comfort by adjusting HVAC system parameters. We first validate HCRPN using ZDT-1 and Shaff

Aims. Observational data show that the observed luminous matter is not sufficient to explain several features of the present universe, from gravitational structure formation to the rotational velocities in galaxies and clusters. The mainstream explanation is that the missing mass, although gravitationally active, interacts very weakly with ordinary matter. Competing explanations involve changing the laws of gravity at low accelerations, as in MOdified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND). Here, we suggest that the Dirac-Milne cosmology, a matter-antimatter symmetric cosmology where the two components rep

Motivation: A good quantitative epitope prediction, i.e. a reliable prediction of the strength of the MHC-epitope binding, is decisive in order to better understand the immune system response. The prediction is often performed by means of the scoring-matrix method that usually assumes a single binding configuration: each amino acid of the epitope binds to a specific pocket of the MHC molecule, in a way independent from other bindings. Results: We have put forward the assumption, suggested by the allosteric Monod framework, that a number of alternative states exist, each one characterised by an
