Résumé :
An integrable Hamiltonian system presents monodromy if the action-angle variables cannot be defined globally. As a prototype of classical monodromy with azimuthal symmetry, we consider a linear molecule interacting with external fields and explore the topology structure of its phase space. Based on the behavior of closed orbits around singular points or regions of the energy–momentum plane, a semi-theoretical method is derived to detect classical monodromy. The validity of the monodromy test is numerically illustrated for several systems with azimuthal symmetry.

Résumé :
Abstract We show that Hamiltonian monodromy of an integrable two degrees of freedom system with a global circle action can be computed by applying Morse theory to the Hamiltonian of the system. Our proof is based on Takens’s index theorem, which specifies how the energy-h Chern number changes when h passes a non-degenerate critical value, and a choice of admissible cycles in Fomenko–Zieschang theory. Connections of our result to some of the existing approaches to monodromy are discussed.

Résumé :
We study helical phase inflation which realizes “monodromy inflation” in supergravity theory. In the model, inflation is driven by the phase component of a complex field whose potential possesses helicoid structure. We construct phase monodromy based on explicitly breaking globalU(1)symmetry in the superpotential. By integrating out heavy fields, the phase monodromy from single complex scalar field is realized and the model fulfills natural inflation. The phase-axion alignment is achieved from explicitly symmetry breaking and gives super-Planckian phase decay constant. TheF-term scalar potenti

Résumé :
We consider the pp-wave limit of an exactly solvable gauged WZWN model proposed by Sfetsos and Tseytlin. The monodromy matrix is constructed for the model by adopting the methods utilized by us earlier. The pole structure of the monodromy matrix is analyzed and their properties are discussed in the context of the pp-wave limit of the gauged WZWN model.

Abstract We carry out a thorough numerical examination of field theory monodromy inflation at strong coupling. We perform an MCMC analysis using a Gaussian likelihood, fitting multiparameter models using CMB constraints on the spectral index and the tensor to scalar ratio. We show that models with uniquely positive Wilson coefficients are ruled out. If there are coefficients that can take on both signs, there can be a cancellation of terms that flattens the potentials and allows one to satisfy current data, and forecasts with strong constraints on the tensor to scalar ratio. Résumé :
The cannonical quantization of the WZNW model provides a complete set of exchange relation in the enlarged chiral state spaces that include the Gauss components M±, [Formula: see text] of the monodromy matrices M, [Formula: see text]. Regarded as new dynamical variables, the elements of M and [Formula: see text] cannot be identified — they satisfy different exchange relations. Accordingly, the two dimensional theory expressed in terms of the left and right movers' fields does not automatically respect monodromy invariance. Continuing our recent work on the subject we show that the definition o

Résumé :
Abstract A direct variational approach with a floating frame is presented to derive the ordinary differential equations of motion of a flexible rod, constant crank speed slider crank mechanism. Potential energy terms contained in the derivation include beam bending energy and energy in foreshortening of the rod tip (which were selected because of the importance of these terms in a pinned-pinned rod parametric resonance). A symbolic manipulator code is used to reduce the constrained equations of motion to unconstrained nonlinear equations. A linearized version of these equations is used to expl

Résumé :
The higher order effects from ball bearing nonlinearities cause complex vibration characteristics in rotor ball bearing systems. The sources of nonlinearities are internal radial clearance, Hertzian contact forces between balls and races and varying compliance effect. The same authors in their earlier work have identified the sets of parameters corresponding to instability and chaos for a horizontal flexible rotor supported on deep groove ball bearing. To the best of author’s knowledge, there is not much work reported in the literature on the dynamic analysis for instability and chaos, which i
