(2010), the depository for the holotypes of Atractides (Atractides) anatolicus Pešić, Erman & Esen sp. nov. and Atractides (Atractides) martini Pešić, Erman & Esen sp. nov., respectively, was not given. Therefore, the names of both species are invalid (International Code of Zoological Nomenclature 1999, Art. 16.4.2). We declare here that the holotype male of Atractides anatolicus and the holotype male of Atractides martini are deposited in the Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden (RMNH). The purpose of this note is to validate the name of both new species (International Code of Zoological Nomenclature 1999, Art. 13.1.2).

Abstract Measurements of uniaxial extension and compression were made on model poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) [−Si(CH3)2−O−]x networks to examine the molecular theories of rubber elasticity. The stress-strain isotherms showed that the Flory-Erman theory of rubber elasticity is in good agreement with experimental data from extension to compression (α−1: 0.3–13), while the Mooney-Rivlin relation is useful only in a specific region of extension ratio (α−1: 0.3–0.8). The experimental results strongly support the theory of Flory-Erman, rather than those of phantom and affine networks. It is thus evident that the Flory-Erman theory of rubber elasticity is the more nearly correct.

A review is given of all species of water mites reported from Turkey, based on published records and original data from recent research. In total, 236 species and subspecies in 52 genera and 23 families have been found. Two species, Atractides (Atractides) anatolicus Pešić, Erman & Esen sp. nov. and Atractides (Atractides) martini Pešić, Erman & Esen sp. nov. are described as new to science. The following species are reported for the first time for Turkey: Atractides inflatipalpis K.Viets, 1950, A. remotus Szalay, 1953 and A. orghidani Motaş & Tanasachi, 1960. The following synonyms are established: Hydrovolzia persica Bader & Sepasgozarian, 1979 and H. persica anatolica Oezkan, 1982 = H. cancellata Walter, 1906; Arrenurus (Rhinophoracarus) hazarensis Özkan & Erman, 1990 = A. abbreviator Berlese, 1888. The characteristics of the water mite fauna in the treated area are briefly outlined.

Abstract Equilibrium elongation moduli and swelling properties have been calculated for amorphous polymer networks prepared in a diluted reference state of polymer volume fraction υ2C. The three molecular elasticity theories employed are based on (i) an idealized affine deformation model (in which the constraints on junction fluctuations are infinite), (ii) an idealized phantom chain model (in which the constraints are absent), and (iii) the more realistic Flory-Erman theory (in which the constraints vary with crosslinking conditions, degree of swelling, and extent of elongation). A discussion of the dependence of the constraint parameter κ on υ2C is given, and is applied to the calculation of stress-strain isotherms in elongation specifically for cis-polyisoprene cured with dicumyl peroxide. The experimental dependence of κ on υ2C investigated by Erman and Mark was found to be similar to the dependence of the plateau modulus on dilution, and this is consistent with the constrained contour model proposed by Erman and Monnerie.

During a study of predatory mites of Western Siberia, I have recorded the following six species of the genus Stigmaeus (Acari: Stigmaeidae): S. dingus Kuznetsov; S. uzunolukensis Özçelik and Doğan; S. harsitensis Doğan, Doğan and Erman; S. fimus Doğan, Doğan and Erman; S. corticeus Kuznetsov; and S. pilatus Kuznetsov. These species were recorded for the first time from Asian Russia. Moreover, three of the six species—S. uzunolukensis, S. harsitensis and S. fimus—have been recorded for the first time from Russia as well. This article redescribes females of S. dingus and S. uzunolukensis based on materials from Western Siberia. Also, a S. uzunolukensis male is described for the first time.

Rainfall is one of the most important factors of the slope stability. After the "5.12" earthquake, there are a large number of loose solid produced by earthquake on the mountain, which leads to the soils strength loss in the earthquake disaster zones. and induces landslides and collapses easily in the heavy rainfall condition. The soil parameters obtained from the tests, the scene investigation of the Erman mountain landslide of Han Yuan County, the new developed control of ArcGIS to obtain intuitive landslide warning graphs have been carried out. Results show that the picture of hazard grade is consistent with the actual situation of landslide on Erman mountain. It will provide a scientific way to analyze the influence of heavy rainfall on slope stability.

The geological disaster is one of the important research contents of the field of Earth Science. In this paper, the method of theoretical knowledge,field surveys and laboratory experiments is adopted.The Erman Mountain in Hanyuan County is the research object.Analysis the environmental conditions,development characteristics and mechanism. Select the characters of landslide, geological structure, elevation, slope, slope, earthquake, rainfall and other factors as analysis variables. Combine GIS with fuzzy mathematical evaluation method, develop the landslide stability evaluation plug-in and then divide the risk regionalization of study area, in order to avoid occurrence of geological hazards in the area, reduce casualties and property losses. The results show that The occurrence of landslide areas are mainly concentrated in the elevation at about 1600 m and 30° ~ 50° slope area.With the increase of height and slope, the possibility of landslides is increasing.

Eva Erman and Niklas Möller have recently criticised a range of political theorists for committing a pragmatistic fallacy, illicitly drawing normative conclusions from politically neutral ideas about language. This paper examines their critique with respect to one of their primary targets: the pragmatist approach to political legitimacy that I proposed in earlier work, which draws on Robert Brandom’s theory of language. I argue that the charge relies on a misrepresentation of the role of pragmatist ideas about language in my analysis of legitimacy. Pragmatism’s significance for thinking about political legitimacy does not lie in the normative conclusions it justifies but in the way it reorients our thinking towards political practice. This raises the deeper question of what we are to expect from a theory of legitimacy. I argue that Erman and Möller presuppose a widely held but unduly restrictive conception of what a normative theory of legitimacy consists in and that pragmatism can broaden the scope of enquiry: a theory of legitimacy should not focus narrowly on the content and justification of criteria, but more fundamentally aim to explicate the forms of political activity in which such criteria are at stake.

Abstract Characterization of randomly crosslinked networks requires a topological description of imperfect network structure and a molecular-elasticity theory, preferably with a minimum number of adjustable parameters, relating macroscopic stress and strain or swelling ratios to molecular deformation. It is shown that simple relationships exist between the molecular weight between consecutive junctions, the molecular weight of linear precursor chains, the cycle rank, and the number of junctions for networks having no defects other than chain ends. The idealized affine deformation model (in which the constraints on junction fluctuations are infinite) and the idealized phantom-chain model (in which the constraints are absent) are inadequate for network characterization. The more realistic Flory-Erman constrained junction model is applied to the description of cis-polyisoprene cured with dicumyl peroxide. Swelling equilibrium experiments are in agreement with stress-strain measurements. Analysis of these stress-strain data with the constrained-junction and constrained-chain models gives similar results. This validates the Flory hypothesis that it is generally sufficient to concentrate the effects of the constraints on the junctions. Nevertheless, the constrained chain model proposed by Erman and Monnerie has the advantage of depending on one parameter, KG, instead of two, κ and ζ, for the constrained junction model.

German-Polish Relations in the Sejm and Senate Debate The paper concerns the position of Polish MPs and senators on shaping the principles of German-Polish cooperation in a situation in which Poland regains full sovereignty in foreign policy. The position of Polish deputies was analysed on the basis of stenographic reports from plenary sessions of the Sejm and Senate concerning the preparation and ratification of treaties with Germany on confirming the border and on good neighbourhood. In particular, it was a question of examining whether MPs and senators supported the concept of a G erman-Polish community of interest, which was defined and presented in the Sejm by Foreign Minister Krzysztof Skubiszewski. During the ratification debate, supporters of both treaties pointed out that they enabled Poland to leave the Eastern Bloc, making Poland independent of the support of the USSR for the western border. They also provided an opportunity for German support on Poland’s way to the European Communities. MPs and senators understood that it was possible to build a G erman-Polish community of interest on the basis of supporting and expanding the integration process and thus completely change Poland’s geopolitical situation. This did not mean that the solutions adopted in the treaty on good neighbourhood, especially with regard to compensation, the status of Poles in Germany and the German minority in Poland, were fully accepted.

Abstract A review of constitutive models for the finite deformation response of rubbery materials is given. Several recent and classic statistical mechanics and continuum mechanics models of incompressible rubber elasticity are discussed and compared to experimental data. A hybrid of the Flory—Erman model for low stretch deformation and the Arruda—Boyce model for large stretch deformation is shown to give an accurate, predictive description of Treloar's classical data over the entire stretch range for all deformation states. The modeling of compressibility is also addressed.

To some extent, we seem to use language in chunks – multiple words that are co-selected and used as gestalt units. By some estimates, these chunks constitute more than 50 percent of a given text ( Erman and Warren, 2000 ). The extent to which our communication is composed of these units has broad implications for linguistic theory, psycholinguistics and applied linguistics, and so is the focus of this study. This study shows that claims made regarding the nature of formulaic language ( Sinclair, 1991 ) lead to a method for the automatic detection of holistically used multi-word patterns in text corpora, which in turn allows for the estimation of the ‘chunkiness’ of linguistic corpora. These estimates may be useful for materials development in language teaching, as well as corpus linguistic and psycholinguistic studies.

We have designed special IPA characters for IPA phonemic transcriptions of the following languages: E[nglish—RP and GA], F[rench], G[erman], I[talian], P[olish], R[ussian], Sp[anish] and Sw[edish], using two different programs which can be run under MS-DOS (BIOS) on an IBM PC or compatible. One, the ChiWriter—henceforth CH—is a complete word processor whilst the other, the LETTRIX—henceforth L—has to be combined with a word processor, such as WordStar, which we have used. In either case, we have designed our characters for a 9-pin dot-matrix printer, though CH also allows font design for a 24-pin or a laser printer. A Quality option has to be chosen, which reduces the printing speed by a factor of two with L and four with CH.

Résumé :

Este trabalho discute construções ambíguas do português brasileiro com o verbo ver em que esse verbo pode ser um verbo pleno com o signifcado de verifcar ou pode ser um marcador pragmático. A hipótese defendida no trabalho é a de que essas leituras estão associadas a duas estruturas sintáticas distintas: as sentenças em que ver tem sentido de verifcação são bioracionais, ao passo que as sentenças em que ver funciona como marcador pragmático são mono-oracionais. Com base nas propostas de Speas e Tenny (2003) e de Hill (2007, 2014) acerca da existência de uma projeção associada ao ato de fala (denominada Speech Act Phrase – SAP) e visível para a computação sintática, propomos que, quando funciona como um marcador pragmático, ver é uma expressão que sofreu um processo de mudança linguística denominado pragmaticalização (Erman e Kotsinas 1993; Dostie 2004; Dievald 2011) e, em consequência disso, é inserido diretamente no núcleo de SAP, projeção que faz a interface da sintaxe com a pragmática conversacional.

Abstract This paper1 addresses the visual-pragmatic functions of the so-called common mark of abbreviation, or macron, in a section of BL Royal MS 18 D II (ff. 147v–162r) – one of the best known “deluxe” manuscripts containing Lydgate’s Siege of Thebes. Contextualised within the framework of visual pragmatics, or Pragmatics on the Page (Carroll et al. 2013), the manuscript in question is considered here as a visual text (Kendall et al. 2013) – one for which the readers construe the meaning through internalising the physical organisation of discourse. The paper attempts to unpack the ways in which the common mark of abbreviation, employed by the scribes as a visual-pragmatic marker, organises the discourse of the manuscript page on three levels of meaning: textual, interactional and metalinguistic (following Erman 2001). The pragmatic roles of the macron are then confronted with the visual forms and possible functions of its notorious graphic doppelgänger (i.e., the otiose stroke).

Os marcadores pragmáticos são componentes cruciais no discurso oral, e sua ausência na conversação tornaria o discurso inadequado ou até mesmo rude (BRINTON, 1996), como demonstram várias pesquisas feitas com aprendizes de inglês em níveis avançados (NIKULA, 1996; PIIRAINEN-MARSH, 1995; AUTOR, ANO). Em vista disso, refletimos sobre a necessidade de ensino dessas expressões a aprendizes de língua estrangeira e,para completar e corroborar nossas reflexões,investigamos a presença de marcadores da oralidade em diálogos de dois livros didáticos de inglês como língua estrangeira, bem como a presença de atividades que possibilitem seu uso, já que o livro didático direciona as ações do professor na maioria das vezes.(AUTOR, ANO). Nossos resultados revelaram uma diversidade significativa de marcadores, assim como atividades que propiciam o seu uso. Nosso arcabouço teórico tem como base os estudos de Schiffrin (1987), Fraser (2015, 2009, 2006, 1999, 1996), Keller (1979), Schorup (1999, 1985), Erman (1992), Östman (1981), Nikula (1996). Abstract1 This paper explores the dynamics of the textual-visual interface of a medieval manuscript page within the frameworks of historical pragmatics and pragmaphilological approaches to the study of historical texts. Whilst the former focuses on the contexts in which historical utterances, manifested as texts, occur (Jacobs & Jucker 1995: 11), the latter involves a context-based perspective in the study of individual historical texts (Jucker 2000: 91). Combining the two approaches allows for a more comprehensive study of the “visual text” (cf. Machan 2011) than has been possible for paleographic, codicological, or linguistic analyses of medieval manuscripts. The present paper adopts the “pragmatics-on-the-page” approach (cf. Carroll et al. 2013, Peikola et al. 2014) in its analysis of bibliographic codes in British Library Royal MS 18 D II, which contains the texts of Lydgate’s Troy Book and Siege of Thebes. Such visual elements of the manuscript page as mise en page, ink colour, as well as type and size of script will be examined as pragmatic markers, functioning on three levels of meaning: textual, interactional, and metalinguistic (cf. Erman 2001, Carroll et al. 2013), and providing (visual) contexts for interpreting the linguistic message of the text.

Hydroporus artvinensis sp. n., H. cagrankaya sp. n., H. lundbergi sp. n., H. sivrikaya sp. n., and H. toledoi sp. n. (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae) are described from north-eastern Turkey. All five species belong to the longulus-group of Hydroporus Clairville, 1806. They are externally very similar and only the males can be distinguished with certainty by the shape of their aedeagi. These are figured for all five new species, together with the female genitalia of H. cagrankaya sp. n. The males of the species have the proand mesotarsi provided with sucker cups, what is demonstrated for H. cagrankaya sp. n. by some SEM photos. The DNA of this species was also studied; the results suggest a close relationship with H. dobrogeanus Ieniştea, 1962, H. gueorguievi Wewalka, 1975, H. kraatzii Schaum, 1868, and H. sardomontanus Pederzani, Rocchi & Schizzerotto, 2004. The present data indicate an allopatric distribution for the new species, each occurring in a rather restricted area. Except H. artvinensis sp. n., they have been found on the northern slope of the Doğu Karadeniz Dağlari, a mountain range south of the coast of the Black Sea. The number of Turkish Dytiscidae is raised to about 145 species and that of the endemic taxa to 23. The total number of the members of the longulus-group increases from 18 to 23 species. Finally, some new records are presented for H. erzurumensis Erman & Fery, 2000.

AbstractThe eight-chain model, also known as Arruda-Boyce model, is widely used to capture the rate-independent hyperelastic response of rubber-like materials. The parameters of this model are physically based and explained from micromechanics of chain molecules. Despite its excellent performance with only two material parameters to capture bench measurements in uniaxial and pure shear regime, the model is known to be significantly deficient in predicting the equibiaxial data. To ameliorate such drawback, over the years, several modified versions of this successful model have been proposed in the literature. The so-called full-network model is another micromechanically motivated chain model, which has also few modified versions in the literature. For this study, two modified versions of the full-network model have been selected. In this contribution, five modified versions of the Arruda-Boyce model and two modified versions of full-network model are critically compared with the classical eight-chain model for their adequacy in representing equibiaxial data. To do a comparison of all selected models in reproducing the well-known Treloar data, the analytical expressions for the three homogeneous deformation modes, that is, uniaxial tension, equibiaxial tension, and pure shear have been derived and the performances of the selected models are analysed. The comparative study demonstrates that modified Flory-Erman model, Gornet-Desmorat (GD) model, Meissner-Matějka model, and bootstrapped eight-chain model predict well the three deformation modes compare to the classical eight-chain model.
