Résumé :
FET colleges are integral centres of learning to provide students with vocational learning opportunities. This paper examined if FET colleges in Kwazulu-Natal were aware of an entrepreneurial culture that could assist them in supplementing their income to become less dependent upon the State for operational subsidies. A quantitative study with a sample size of 100 candidates was undertaken. The study revealed that although there is an awareness of entrepreneurial activities, there is a weakness in the application of an entrepreneurial process at FET colleges.

Since 1994 South African further education and training (FET) has undergone significant and fundamental changes. These changes include the transfer of colleges between state departments, curriculum revision, forced mergers and a shift in the student population. As a result of the growing interest in, and funding of, vocationally aligned education, education and training excellence models have permeated into the management portfolio of South Africa's FET. The structure and operating principle of semiconductor devices are a central topic in teaching electronics, both in universities and in two-year colleges. Teachers teaching this subject normally run into substantial difficulties stemming from the fact that a major part of the concepts and processes that are relevant to understanding these devices are abstract. In light of the advantages of multimedia in illustrating dynamic processes, the chapter covering the field effect transistor (FET) has recently been taught through animation at a two-year college in Israel. The chapter includes a summary of how American and international colleges define students' wellbeing. American colleges began using wellbeing within the practice of positive psychology. Now, colleges in the United States use the term health and wellness, which encompasses a multidimensional meaning including psychological, social, physical, and spiritual wellbeing. The international colleges primarily define wellbeing as subjective wellbeing, dependent upon the students' perceptions, culture, and social support. A few wellness assessments will be introduced. The remainder of the chapter discusses varying wellness programs conducted on today's American college campuses.

William Goodell Frost was born into a New York reformist family who offered their home as a station on the Underground Railroad. Additionally, his aunt, Lavinia Goodell, was the first woman to practice law before the Wisconsin Supreme Court. In 1876, Frost received an AB at the progressive Oberlin College, where he later returned to teach Greek. While teaching at Oberlin, Frost became interested in Appalachia, and his interest deepened when he became the president of Berea College in Berea, Kentucky, in 1893. Berea College was founded in 1855 by Kentucky abolitionist John G. Fee as an interracial institution; its supporters, both black and white, also championed black colleges such as Howard and Fisk. In the years after Kentucky’s 1904 legislation outlawing interracial education, Berea kept its white students at the Berea campus and founded Lincoln Institute in Louisville to educate African Americans. Résumé :
The focus of this chapter is on the shift toward predominantly vocational enrollments in the 1970s, brought on by the combined pressures of market decline, state fiscal crisis, and the political ascendance of conservative business leaders. Nevertheless, it would be misleading to suggest that contrary forces were not in evidence at least in the first few years of the 1970s. The most important of these contrary pressures was the sheer growth of the community college and university systems, which, for a time, encouraged an increase in the absolute numbers of transfers. The community colleges in Massachusetts proved to be at least as attractive in a period of economic retrenchment as they had been in better times. Low-cost, close-to-home two-year colleges were a practical alternative to more expensive higher education. Between 1970 and 1973, the community colleges’ full-time enrollment increased by over one-third, and the other two tiers grew slightly less rapidly. As the system became more vocational in the late 1960s, it also grew. Because of this growth, the absolute number of community college students who transferred to four-year colleges increased, even though the transfer enrollment rates were slowly declining. The number of community college students transferring to the University at Massachusetts at Amherst, for example, increased from just 80 in 1964, when only seven community college campuses were open, to 425 in 1970 and then to 950 in 1972, when twelve campuses were operating at full capacity. In 1973, at the peak of transfer enrollments, 1,165 public two-year college students enrolled at the University of Massachusetts; 680 enrolled in the state colleges; and 525 enrolled in four-year private colleges in Massachusetts.2 Although never more than a small fraction of total community college enrollments, transfer rates did rise dramatically, from approximately 12.5 percent of the sophomore class in 1964 (a rate congenial to the original planners) to nearly 30 percent of the sophomore class in 1973 (Beales 1974). The nationwide decline in the market for college-educated labor in the early 1970s hit Massachusetts with slightly greater force than in other states, being reinforced by a recession in the newly emerging high-technology belt around Boston that was related to the winding down of the war in Southeast Asia.

In India, government aided and private engineering institutes provide engineering education. Government aided institutes include Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Regional Engineering Colleges (RECs) and government engineering colleges. Ten percent of the total students get education in government-aided institutes and are globally accepted too. Remaining ninety percent of the total students get education in private self-financed engineering institutes. Engineering technology programs in U.S colleges and universities were established by the 1970s. Their separate existence from engineering has resulted in mixed outcomes—some good, some bad, and some outright ugly. By ugly we mean the confusions generated by the divide between engineering and engineering technology. In this paper, critical analysis of the good, the bad, and the ugly is presented. It begins with a brief history of engineering technology as a discipline, discusses the current situation, points out the fact that few advanced countries practice such a divide, and offers some sugges

Nuclear Decommissioning Projects and Programmes (NDPs) are characterized by significant risks, long schedules, and high costs that keep rising. Additionally, due to the NDP complexity and variety, it is extremely hard to understand which are the NDP characteristics that are associated with the NDP performance. This research takes the project management perspective, collects empirical information on NDPs and investigates this relationship between NDP characteristics and NDP performance, both through qualitative cross-comparison and quantitative statistical analysis based on the Fisher’s Exact T

Many engineering educators have become sensitive to the improved outcome of student learning in their classes. This has been true for our colleagues in the colleges of education where teachers are prepared for the teaching pedagogy. In many cultures as well as ours, the teaching profession is upheld as a noble profession. At the same time, the university faculty are held with high esteem by the general population. Faculty teaching in undergraduate programs have begun to address the pedagogy of learning in recent years. There is a national trend towards helping in this phenomenon. Besides fundi

On the occasion of the centenary of the First World War, remembered across the world from 2014 until the end of 2018, many aspects and experiences of this global conflict have been re-examined or brought to light for the first time, as we honour the memory of those estimated 16 million soldiers and civilians who perished in what was then known as the ‘Great War’, or the ‘War to End All Wars’. So many of these died on the infamous fields of Flanders, where Allied and Central Forces dug themselves into trenches for the better part of four years. Much of the research on teachers and teaching in development literature focuses on observable and quantified factors, including qualifications and training. But simply being qualified (with a university degree in education or subject areas), or trained in certain ways (e.g., coaching versus in-service) explains very little of the variation in learning outcomes (Kane and Staige
