Abstract The aim of this paper is to evaluate the sustainability of a novel internet-based system for food logistics and to create a framework for more detailed future sustainability assessments. Digitalization enables food shopping via the internet and food delivery from producers to consumers using only a single terminal. The sustainability of different food logistic options was evaluated through a literature review and life cycle assessment. Given the frame of reference, there is a gap in the knowledge on the sustainability of food logistics. In addition, the current literature does not rec

There is significant interest by the food industry in applying milder processing conditions. A major area of research within predictive modelling has been the search for models which accurately predict the effect of combining multiple processes or hurdles. For a mild process, which has temperature as the major microbial injury step, the effect of the other combined hurdles in inhibiting growth of the injured organisms must be understood. The latter means that the inoculum size dependency of the time to growth must also be fully understood. This essentially links injury steps with the potential

Résumé :
This work was in response to the Defense Logistic Agency’s (DLA) Subsistence Network Broad Agency Announcement, BAA-0003-16 addressing 2019 NDAA Section 329 that states packaging materials used for Meals Ready-to-Eat (MRE) that contact food products must be free of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). This was addressed by determining the presence or absence of PFAS on MREs by extraction followed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Any samples positive for PFAS were quantitated using LC triple quadrupole (QqQ) MS

Asfaw, Etenesh. Uzbekistan’s Food Supply amid the COVID-19 Lockdown. TOSHKENT SHAHRIDAGI XALQARO VESTMINSTER UNIVERSITETI, 2020. https://doi.org/10.70735/vwph1533.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Lockdown containment measures disrupt food supply and Uzbekistan is not an exception. Significant food price increases, reduced access to nutritious food, and interrupted logistics were recorded over the months of the strict lockdown. The multiple and rapid government policy actions softened some of the severe impacts of the lockdown. Uzbekistan cannot however be compliant about its food systems resilience. More has to be done to guarantee households’ food security as the pandemic continuous.

Agency, Food Standards. The impact of labour shortages on UK food availability and safety. Food Standards Agency, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.46756/sci.fsa.oac747.

Résumé :
This research used a food systems approach to examine the impact of labour supply shortages on key aspects of the food system. It provides insight into the consequences of labour shortages as reported in 2021, the complex processes that combined to create the shortages and the resultant impact on the Food Standards Agency’s (FSA) ability to effectively do its job. The research also explored consumers’ perceptions of food availability and food safety. Three key questions guided our research: how do labour shortages impact on food availability and safety, now and in the future? how do labour sho

Résumé :
The effect of consumers stockpiling certain goods and the slow reaction of retailers to ration them exposed the limitations of cost-efficient and streamlined supply chains to be agile and adapt to unforeseen shocks. This suggests that changes may be needed to make the supply chain more resilient. Specific problems arose from the closure of parts of the catering sector and the lack of agility in redistributing supplies from this sector to retail outlets or the food donation/charity sector. This was due to challenges in packaging availability, logistics and labelling requirements; leading to an
