Geoenergy resources are a new type of clean energy. Carbon neutralization and carbon peaking require significant system reform in the field of energy supply. As a clean, low-carbon, stable and continuous non carbon-based energy, geothermal energy can provide an important guarantee for achieving this goal. Different from the direct way of obtaining energy, ground energy indirectly obtains heat energy from shallow soil and surface water. Résumé :
This month’s Geopolitics of Energy is devoted to a discussion of a concept called “geoenergeia”, which is a neologism created by the authors, Ioannis Vidakis and Georgios Baltos. Noting that geo-economics, and of course, geopolitics, have been areas of scholarly research for a hundred years or more, the authors contend there should be a term, perhaps even a field of study, to describe the intersection of geography and energy. Thus, they have come up with “geoenergeia”. The authors explain why a geoenergic point of view can be useful in deciphering contemporary wor

Résumé :
This study focuses on the significance of energy resources, supply networks and security, recognizing their key role in the analysis and interpretation of national and international politics and economics. Furthermore, the pursuit of ensuring guaranteed availability of oil and natural gas in the desirable quantities is gradually expected to play a pivotal role in the foreign policies and priorities of all the countries on the planet, especially those of the 'Great Powers' having increased dependence on hydrocarbons. Due to the consequent high stakes of energy security, governments and

The Styrian Basin (SB) is the westernmost basin within the Pannonian Basin Complex and is located in southeastern Austria, where the crustal thickness decreases from more than 40 km to less than 30 km. It can be divided into the West and the East Styrian Basin. The pre-Neogene basement includes Penninic and crystalline rocks overlain by Palaeozoic rocks. The age of the basin fill ranges from the early to late Miocene. Despite a long hydrocarbon exploration history, only a single sub-economic gas field has been discovered. The lack of commercial deposits is probably due to limited source rock q

Résumé :
Geoenergy is a new journal co-owned between the Geological Society and the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) that was established in 2023 (Geoenergy Home). Recently, May-June 2024, in its second volume, a thematic collection of 7 papers originating from talks presented at a two-day conference held 28–29 April 2022 at The Geological Society, London, entitled ‘Applicability of Hydrocarbon Subsurface Workflows to CCS’ were published. The conference examined the workflows underpinning current and planned CCS projects and activities, demonstrating similarities and differenc
