TamdrupRoyal residence and memorial church in a new light
Tamdrup has been shrouded in a degree of mystery in recent times. The solitary church located on a moraine hill west of Horsens is visible from afar and has attracted attention for centuries. On the face of it, it resembles an ordinary parish church, but on closer examination it is found to be unusually large, and on entering one discovers that hidden beneath one roof is a three-aisled construction, which originally was a Romanesque basilica. Why was such a large church built in this particular place? What were the prevailing circ

The argument of human dignity plays an important role in current debates on human rights and their relevance in modern biomedicine. When discussing the contribution of Christian theology to current debates on human dignity and human rights the thesis is not that the modern idea of human dignity depends on a theological grounding. Also, it is not the task of theology to legitimate rights as Christian a posteriori. We do not need to deduce modern human rights from theological doctrines. The theological challenge is to find an access for Christians from their belief to the modern idea of human ri

The article regards one of the key ideas of German expressionism drama, which was to aspire for spiritual renewal of man and the whole society by reviving the unique unspoiled nature of people. The plays under the analysis prove the transformation takes on the features of an artificial model, a Christian miracle or utopia. Resultively, it was expressionist playwrights who saw the spiritual rebirth of humanity as a vague dream and unattainable ideal.

Abstract The term “coenesthesia” was introduced at the end of the 18th century by the German physiologist Johann Christian Reil to designate the general perception of the living body through the nerves disseminated in it. Over the course of the 19th century, this notion circulated widely not only in Germany, but also in France, where it was developed in particular by Théodule Ribot. However, a good sixty years before Ribot, Maine de Biran had already employed the notion of “coenesthesia” to indicate the “immediate feeling of existence”, which he distinguishes from the apperception of the self

This essay argues that the dramatic oeuvre of mixed-race Asian Canadian playwright David Yee, which it surveys and classifies for the first time, constitutes a Canadian version of what Turkish born German director Shermin Langhoff calls “postmigrant theatre”—that is, theatre in which immigrant and racialized characters and performers are not limited to their ethnic roles as “others.” Yee’s body of work marks a departure from the drama of intergenerational conflict within immigrant families that has characterized so many of the first generation of plays by the “1.5” and second generations of As

They contain hundreds of fanfare-like melodies with little explanation as to how, why, or where they should be played. Written by trumpeters with limited musical education, the manuscripts present a unique challenge in deciphering distinct and personal notation styles. The aim of this research is to shed a new light on the so-called Thomsen and Lübeck manuscripts by stepping into the shoes of the trumpeters of the late renaissance and early baroque. The

In situations, however, where there is an interweaving of religion and conflict, interreligious dialogue, as a peace-building mechanism, is fundamentally challenged by its very foundation, which is the notion of religion. By taking the case of the Mindanao conflict, the aim of this paper is to demonstrate that religion expressed culturally and geographically as ethno-religious identity forces interreligious dialogue as primarily a process towards radical renewal of the involved faith traditions. Judith Butler identifies an increase in paranoia and censorship associated with these factors, which has greatly affected freedom of speech, politics, the press, and what constitutes the public sphere. Classical definitions of religion—substantive (e.g. Tylor) and functionalist (e.g. Durkheim)—fail, in part because they attempt to be in three places at once, as it were: they attempt to distinguish religion from non-religion; they attempt to capture what religions have in common; and they a

The labyrinth is probably the most universal trope of complexity. Deriving from pre-Greek labyrinthos, a word denoting “maze, large building with intricate underground passages”, and possibly related to Lydian labrys, which signifies “double-edged axe,” symbol of royal power, the notion of the labyrinth primarily evokes the Minoan Palace in Crete and the myth of the Minotaur. According to this myth, the Minotaur, a monster with the body of a man and the head of a bull, was born to Pesiphae, king Minos’s wife, who mated with a bull when the king of Crete was besieging Athen
