Author, feminist, nationalist, modernist, educator, and member of the National Assembly, she identified her person and career with the transformation of Turkey into a modern secular republic. Educated in the internationalist spirit of the American College for Girls in Istanbul, she was, throughout her life, a cosmopolitan intellectual with an international audience. Edib's personal transition from Ottoman society to the new nationalist elite, and her homeland's transition from empire to republic, posed no insurmountable historical, social, and cultural discontinuities; hers was a nationalism that, although grounded in Western notions of emancipation and self-determination, asserted with confidence its distinct identity and autonomy from the West.

On 23 May 1919, a large crowd gathered in Sultan Ahmet Square in the center of Istanbul. Facing them was one of the most famous female figures of modern Turkish history. Since that day, the gathering has come to symbolize the call by the masses for change in the structure of authority and their protest against the 15 May occupation of Izmir by Greek expeditionary forces. Not only has this gathering taken on a mythical aura, but so has the image of Halide Edib, the woman who faced the crowd that day.

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of biography-based values education on the attitudes of 4th grade students towards the value of patriotism. A semi-experimental design with pretest-posttest control group was used to find out differences concerning attitudes towards patriotism value between students in the experimental group in which biography-based values education was implemented and those in the control group where biography-based values education was not used. “Patriotism attitude scale” was used for quantitative data and “interview forms” were used for qualitative data in this study in which quantitative and qualitative research techniques were employed together. In this study, biographies of Halide Edip, Münevver Saime, Kara Fatma, Nene Hatun, Şerife Bacı, Tayyar Rahmiye, Gördesli Makbule, Kılavuz Hatice, Binbaşı Ayşe, Nezahat Onbaşı, Elif Bacı and Halime Çavuş, some women heroes of the Turkish independence, were used. After the implementation of biography-based values education, a significant difference was found between students' attitude scores concerning patriotism value in favor of the experimental group. In addition, there was a significant difference between students' attitude scores and their gender in favor of the experimental group while no significant difference was detected between students' attitudes regarding variables of parental education level and family income level.

Résumé :

A preparative method of synthesis of the new methyl 3-iodo-1-benzothiophene-2-carboxylate was elaborated. Electrochemical behavior of methyl 3-chloro-, bromo- and iodo-1-benzothiophene-2-carboxylates 1-3, and of their reduction and dimer products 4, 5 in anhydrous dimethylformamide has been investigated at mercury and platinum electrodes using polarography, cyclic voltammetry and voltammetry on a rotating platinum disk electrode. The reduction in divided cells follows the ECE mechanism (electron - chemical step - electron), where the primary radical anion is split into a halide anion and neutral heterocyclic radical, which is immediately reduced by the second electron and protonated. The only reduction product is the methyl 1-benzothiophene-2-carboxylate (5); whereas the EDim mechanism (electron - dimer formation) leading to the dimeric species 4 was not observed under the above conditions. Reduction of 1-3 on platinum causes formation of a blocking film on the electrode. Sonication during electrolysis successfully reactivates the electrode.

Japonya'nın, uzun bir kapalılık döneminin ardından girdiği modernleşme sürecinde, 1904-1905 Rus-Japon Savaşı'nda aldığı beklenmedik galibiyet, tüm dünyada olduğu kadar Türk dünyasında da yankı uyandırmıştır. Asyalı bir milletin ilk kez büyük bir gücü yenmesi, Türk aydınlarının yazılarında da yer almıştır. Bundan tam 40 yıl sonra Japonya'nın II. Dünya Savaşı'nda aldığı yenilgi de şüphesiz aynı şekilde Türk yazınına yansımıştır. Türk aydınlarının yazıları, halkın belleğinde Japonya imajının oluşmasında oldukça önem teşkil etmiştir. Bu çalışmada, II. Dünya Savaşı'ndan yenilgiyle çıkan Japonya'nın savaş sürecindeki durumu, Akşam gazetesi yazarlarından Halide Edip Adıvar, Refik Halit Karay, Vâlâ Nureddin (Vâ-Nû) ve Macid Arda'nın köşe yazıları üzerinden değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmamızın başlıca amacı, bu yazarların 1945 yılında Akşam gazetesinde yayımlanan köşe yazıları aracılığıyla II. Dünya Savaşı döneminde Japonya'nın nasıl algılandığı ve Türk halkına nasıl aktarıldığını incelemektir. Bu doğrultuda, öncelikle Japonya'nın II. Dünya Savaşı'na girme süreci ele alınmış, ardından da dönemin önemli yazarlarının Akşam gazetesinde yayımlanan Japonya ile ilgili köşe yazıları incelenmiştir. İncelemeler sonucunda, yazarların özellikle Japon milliyetçiliği, atom bombası ve Japonya'nın yayılmacı politikaları üzerinde durarak, Japonya karşıtı bir görüş yansıttıkları belirlenmiştir.

Religious buildings, since the very early ages, are structured through time in accordance with the social structures, changing belief systems, cultural differences, and technological developments. Each civilization studied the period prior to them, benefited from the past knowledge, and developed their own authentic architecture. An evaluation of the contemporary Turkish mosques shows that, instead of building through an understanding of past buildings, replicating structures have been built. Considering the number and characteristics of these practices, it is important that only a few mosques constitute architectural examples. The article examines the reasons why small number of modern mosques has been built whilst the new built mosques replicate the old architectural designs. The issue is discussed with reference to the idea of an “unchanging mosque typology; idealizing a particular era and style; ignoring the developments in technology and material resources; continuing with the accustomed style”. Throughout the concepts such as Islamic Architecture, Ottoman Architecture, social structure, aesthetic perception, meaning, material resources, approaches in ideological and design realms, the longing for past and criticism of the global are used. In the article, a project for Halide Edip Adıvar Complex National Architectural Project Competition is highlighted as a case which is designed by team members: Meltem Özçakı (leader), Yağız Ezer, Ali Derya Mutlu, Büşra Şık, Ecem Kocaarslan, Canan Ganiç and assistants: Mahmut Nimetoğlu, Kübra Çelik. The article ends with a commentary on traditional structures in the context of contemporary opportunities available through new technologies and materials.

AbstractWith the invention of writing around BC 3000 and the invention of the printing in 1450s, developments occurred in culture, art, science and communication fields and the human beings started to communicate and interact with each other. The immigration phenomenon, which can date back as far as the human history also developed and continued to increase with the globalization and the developments in communication tools. These two important facts developed and increased parallel with each other and they became the most important subjects of the world in recent times. The refugee and asylum-seeker movements form the world agenda nowadays and it continues to be in the agenda due to press and media organisations following the subject closely and creating a public opinion. The growing refugee crisis gained speed and continued to increase especially with the protests and civil wars called “The Arab Spring”, happening in the Arabic peninsula, and became the most emphasized topic by the media and the press agencies of many countries. In this study, six days’ news coverage on the topic of refugees in The Guardian in England and the Hürriyet newspaper in Turkey were analysed and compared. The study will try to explain and focus on the similarities and differences between these news contents, from what perspective the refugee problems are looked at and how they are reported in the news.ÖzM.Ö 3000’li yıllarda yazının bulunması ve 1450’li yıllarda matbaanın bulunmasıyla kültür, sanat, bilim ve iletişim alanında gelişmeler meydana gelmiş, insanlar birbirleriyle iletişim ve etkileşime geçmeye başlamışlardır. İnsanlık tarihi kadar eski olan göç olgusu da aynı şekilde küreselleşme ve iletişim araçlarına koşut olarak gelişim göstermiştir. Bahse konu olgular, günümüz dünyasında, yüksek önemi haiz yapıdadır. Bu çeçervede, mülteci ve sığınmacı hareketleri, basın yayın kuruluşlarının konuyu yakından takip edip kamuoyu oluşturmalarıyla, dünya gündeminde yer bulmayı sürdürmektedir. Özellikle Arap yarımadasındaki “Arap Baharı” olarak adlandırılan, protesto ve iç savaşlarla hız kazanan ve artarak devam eden mülteci krizi birçok ülkenin basın yayın kuruluşları tarafından önemle üzerinde durulan bir konu haline gelmiştir. Bu çalışmada İngiltere’deki The Guardian ve Türkiye’deki Hürriyet gazetelerinin mülteci konusu hakkında yapmış oldukları altı günlük haberleri incelenip karşılaştırılmıştır. Bu haberler arasındaki benzerlik ve farklılıklar üzerinde durularak haberlerde mülteci sorunlarına hangi açıdan bakıldığı ve değinildiği, haberlerin içerikleri incelenerek açıklanmaya çalışılacaktır.

In this study, it is aimed to develop a measuring device, which evaluates and determines the areas of Multiple Intelligences. With this aim, after the literature search is done expert opinipons have been taken and the scale has been put into the final form . The content validity of the form which is created with the help of expert opinions is done so the content validity of the items and areas are determined. The items, which have lower than 80 percent validity rate are eliminated from the study.The population of the study includes primary, secondary, and high school principals, head assistans principles and assitant principals who serve in the schools within Nevşehir Provincial Directorate for National educaiton during 2012-2013 academic year. Since the population is included as a whole extra sample is not taken.The trial form with 80 items which aims to determine the areas of Multiple Intelligences is applied to themanagers (principals, head assistant principals and assistant principals) and the obtained data has been analyzed.When we checked all tables and items in the Multiple Intelligences Areas Evaluation Scale in an holistic view, we can definetely reach the conclusion that it is highly reliable with its Cronbach’s Alpha valuation which has found 0,965 for each item. As a result of the evalutions, it is observed that the all items showed positive effect. Just the first item from the Naturalistic Intelligence area which is ‘Since I’m so curious about animals, I observe their behaviour closely and collect some data about their lives’ has shown a little bit negative effect but since it has shown positive effect on the analysis for the whole scale, it has not been eliminated. If we have a look at the results from Tukey’s addivity test, since the significancy level of the scale is p< 0,05 it can be said that the evaluation scale has additivity feature within. Moreover, the test results which is done for the items of ‘Multiple Intelligences Areas Evaluation Scale, Hotelling’s T-Square value (5793,435) is also found high.It is understood that the developed measuring device to evaluate and determine ‘the multiple intelligences areas’ is useable and applicable. ÖzetBu çalışmanın amacı, “Çoklu Zekâ Alanlarını Değerlendirmeye/Belirlemeye Yönelik Bir Ölçek Geliştirmek”tir. Bu amaçla gerekli literatür taraması yapıldıktan sonra oluşturulan deneysel forma, uzman görüşleri de alınarak son hali verilmiştir. Uzman görüşleri sonrası son hali verilen formun kapsam geçerliliği yapılmış ve böylelikle formdaki maddelerin ve alanların kapsam geçerliliği belirlenmiştir. Kapsam geçerliliğiyle geçerlilik oranları ,80’in altında olan maddeler çalışma kapsamında çıkarılmıştır.Araştırmanın evrenini 2012-2013 öğretim yılında Nevşehir İli İl Milli Eğitim Müdürlüğü bünyesindeki ilkokul, ortaokul ve liselerde görev yapan okul müdürü, müdür başyardımcıları ve müdür yardımcıları oluşturmaktadır. Evrenin tamamına ulaşıldığı için ayrıca örneklem alınmamıştır.Sekiz zekâ alanına yönelik 80 maddeden oluşan çoklu zekâ alanlarını belirleme deneme formu, Nevşehir İli İl Milli Eğitim Müdürlüğü bünyesindeki okullarda (ilkokul, ortaokul ve lise) görev yapan yöneticilere (müdür, müdür başyardımcısı ve müdür yardımcıları) uygulanarak, elde edilen veriler analiz edilmiştir.“Çoklu Zekâ Alanları Değerlendirme Ölçeği”nin bulunduğu tablolar bütün halinde incelendiğinde, ölçekteki maddelerin bütün halinde Cronbach’s Alpha (α) değeri 0,965 olarak bulunmuş olup, bu değere bakılarak ölçekteki maddelerin oldukça güvenilir olduğunu söyleyebiliriz. Yapılan değerlendirmeler sonucu, genel olarak ölçekteki tüm soruların pozitif yönlü etki gösterdiği görülmüştür. Ölçekteki maddelerden sadece doğacı/doğa zekâ alanına ait birinci madde olan “Hayvanlara karşı çok meraklı olduğumdan onların davranışlarını yakından takip edip yaşamları hakkında bilgi toplarım.” maddesinin çok az miktarda negatif etkisi olduğu görülmüştür. Bu maddeye tüm ölçek için yapılan analizde pozitif etki gösterdiği için dokunulmamıştır. Ölçekle ilgili yapılan Tukey’in toplanabilirlik testi sonuçlarına baktığımızda ise, ölçeğin bütün olarak anlamlılık düzeyi p<0,05 olduğundan Çoklu Zekâ Alanları Değerlendirme Ölçeği sorularının toplanabilirlik özelliğinin olduğunu da söyleyebiliriz. Ayrıca “Çoklu Zekâ Alanları Değerlendirme Ölçeği” soruları için yapılan test sonucunda Hotelling’s T-Kare değerinin de (5793,435) de oldukça yüksek çıktığı görülmüştür.Yapılan sonuçlara bakılarak geliştirilen “Çoklu Zekâ Alanlarını Değerlendirmeye/Belirlemeye Yönelik Geliştirilen” ölçeğin kullanılabilir ve uygulanabilir olduğu anlaşılmıştır.
